A pond full of bass, shad and trout would be pretty cool. Look forward to seeing the sunfish trap
Consider Red Eared Sunfish. They get big and breed slower than others.
Longear sunfish, pumpkinseed and northern sunfish are good too
If your trying to catch crawfish you use meat based dog food and use that trap to get those green sun fish out

@@JaysClubHouse we don't have any bass pro shops where I'm at, only Cabela's. But since they are the same company they are all basically the same.
Keep the green sunfish, the bass and catfish will wipe them out for you.
I was going to ask about this. I've got a pond way overpopulated with green sunfish and i was wondering if bass would take them out for me
Bass are great predators, if it will fit in their mouth they will eat it.
Northern pike might be even better than bass unless you are too far south where it gets really hot

I would not stock hybrids or any other predator fish into the pond. Other predator fish will compete with the bass for food and stunt their overall growth.
daisypugsy I didn’t think of it that way I was thinking the hybrids would get possibly bigger than bluegill but that’s true they would probably compete with bass and stunt the growth of all the other fish
But the hybrids wouldnt breed, so if he stocked small ones they would compete but also be a good food source for predators because remember he got a crap ton of cats. Those things get big fast.
Bream not in competition with bass because of mouth size
Other predator fish would be fish like gar, pickerel, perch, trout, walleye, bowfin, crappie, eels, etc.
If you want a natural wild pond with a variety of fish and other animals, you could stock those with your bass, bluegill, redears, catfish and crawfish (especially if it's a HUGE pond).
But, if you want a pond with extremely large bass, bluegill and catfish, most of those are not eligible .
More species makes the bass more adaptable so the green sunfish would make a good backup food source if something like a deep freeze or warm spell happened

Most dog food is pretty unsafe for humans to eat so why put it in your food and water? Most states in US stopped using it to feed hatchery fish bc it was deemed unsafe when they found mercury, cadmium, and rodent feces.

Add a few flathead catfish and like 50 pounds of shiners. With all the green sunfish you catch keep them and freeze them. And feed them to the fish cut up like once a week. And add an automatic feeder

It's not hard to set a minnow trap with bread and catch minnows, cant be good at it just lucky, maybe good at knowing where to put them and what to put in them but that's normal

The stocking is horribly wrong. That fishery just wants to push fish, not manage the lake properly.
I have to say I completely agree, pure example of how people think having some money is a good substitute for knowledge and proper fishery management. Everything from throwing fish off the truck and incorrect net practice, to trying to catch tadpoles with a slice of bread in a basket with holes big enough for the tadpoles to swim through. Just absolutely clueless. Then left two traps to sit there fishing when they saw the bread come out of the trap when they threw it in? Wtf
Flair is you cut up some carp and use that in your crawfish traps it will bring them in like crazy. Fish oil makes crawfish go crazy!
You should get an aerator system if you haven't already. Just added one to my 1/2 acre pond, keeps it from turnover/die off when it gets hot. You could also keep the water open with it for ducks.

The hybrids and they won’t over populate so if you stalk like 20 you can see how they do! They also taste amazing and I would definitely get a fish feeder and use high protein food. Depending of how many minnows,tadpoles and crayfish you stock would depend on how much I would feed. What’s the depth of your pond? Small mouth would be awesome!
