Alternate Picking is slower than Pendulum Picking. With double joint movement you can actually hit the string twice going down and twice going up.
While your wrist picks down, your elbow moves horizontally towards the bridge. Reverse the pattern from wrist upstroke and elbow towards neck.
Try it now! The edge of the pick should travel as if it is drawing the letter U. 16ths at 320 BpM easily.

Great video Justin! Thank you for making this video.
Do you have any two way pickslanting practice exercise video by any chance?

Heres a tool you can use: practice ascending or descending scales by advancing so many notes then playing backwards - 1 note before ascending again.
Start ascending scales with down pick. Descending start with uppick.
Start with four notes forward, then three notes back. Eg (down pick the d note) d,e,f,g then f, then restart this time with an up pick, e,f,g,a, then g, then restart with f again on on downpick.
Such a pattern can be done with 3 notes, 4, 5, or 6. Simply go back to the second note and play however many notes again, you could even alternate how many notes in whichever direction.
This will teach you alternate picking.
Remember odd number of notes pick direction starts and ends same direction, even number of notes the pickdirection is opposite at start and end of note sequences.

I have a whole playlist on this channel which is dedicated to picking and especially pickslanting a lot. But to really master it I would recommend to check out THE ZEN OF SPEEDPICKING (link is in the bio)

For me its whether my mind keeps up with what i am playing. My sound is unique playing fast for me is easy since 1993. Thing is i was picking incorrectly. So ive revised my techniques for strict alternate picking on everything using a 1 mm pick.
Whats most important is sound and what the notes convey. Does it sound good? If not speed is irrelevant.
Ive been playing since 1987. My sound samples are on my page. No needless editing raw shred. My picking sounds like a hammer.
    Justins training has helped me.

Only one method...have a plan and practice...i go thru several finger excercises...for 5 mins each for at least 30 mins...each session. 2-4 sessions a day! At one tempo before bumpimg it up 5-10 and do it till i push the speed and make a mistake...then back to the start at slow speed again!!!!
A couple days u will already see a difference...so imagine a week a month etc!!! The hard part is to actually practice!!!

Practice will be more motivational if your first priority is your sound. Do you enjoy what emotions your playing brings? If not revise the note sequences until it triggers feelings you want. For example, groups of four, five and six notes vary in their tempo and thus feel to the rhythm and the melodies. From these differences, pick angles and transitions from each string will vary which also will vary the emotions you feel. For example, chromatics four notes per string is very different than pentatonics two notes per string which will also affect the tempo, a slow tempo with many notes feels very different than a fast tempo with eighth notes, compare "in control" by vinnie moore vs. "where my fortune lies" by cacophony, shredding melodies vs more of a speed metal feel.

Thats incorrect. Yes yngwies reh videos are as you describe. Theo Ziras corrected my picking last year after playing since 1987. Hombach & Bernth are helpful as well .
Justin talked about the picking direction related to odd and even number of notes per string.
If you have a question why dont you just ask Justin here?
