    I'd recommend you pick up a Molotow liquid chrome paint marker for when you need to paint silver details.

      Gah, I had that and forgot about it. But it wouldn't have matched as well with the rest of the plain silver on the body.

      @@TheFwoosh you can always paint all of the silver parts with it. I've used the Molotow liquid chrome paint marker quite alot. I got the Future Trunks model kit and as you might know alot of stuff on that kit needs to be painted silver, including the entire sword. the liquid chrome worked surprisingly well. imgur.com/a/D0cXwim

    You did a great job on this kit robo. But if you want less discoloration on the nubs. Try leaving a bit of nub on the part, then take a xacto knife and cut it off the rest of the way without bending the nub at all. And sometimes it help to bring some color back from where the nubs were by rubbing your finger on it. Like a finger buff.

    Did you ever build the original R2-D2 kit from MPC? The legs were attached via a small diameter plastic rod that broke VERY easily if there was even a small impact to the legs. There was an opening door on the right side of the body with an arm that you could lift up and extend, but it was a PITA to get it out and up. The third leg was held in with a complex slide mechanism that was also a PITA ass to pull the leg down because it sort of went up and around, so that it wouldn't just fall out. And as I recall, the joint to the feet was so loose that it wouldn't stand on just two legs. It also had stickers, but they were thick vinyl that never stayed stuck down properly, especially when you were supposed to fold them around edges.
    On the plus side, it was larger than this kit.

    I highly recommend toenail trimmer for cutting those pieces out of the tray. They're very cheap, and they work perfectly. They even have a built in file just in case you didn't get the cut as close as you could have

    Sadly, these kits may not be around for much longer. They’re my favourite but I’ve heard Bandai aren’t actually making a profit on these anymore. They’re mainly only still making these for two reasons. One is that the team that makes these are huge Star Wars fans themselves and just love making them but the second reason and perhaps the most important is because they make BIG money on their Gundam kits. They’re currently using the Star Wars kits in the west to promote Bandai kits in general since Star Wars is bigger in the west and so they hope that catches the attention of the western market for their Gundams.

    After putting together the new Vader and new R2 kits, the decals are new. No more water slides, but Vader still came with water slides.. but neither of the new astromechs did. I slightly messed up the back "light" sticker for R2's dome and I couldn't remove it without ripping it, even if it wasn't totally pushed down. So that sucks.

    When cutting the parts out, if you want to reduce the nub marks, you need to cut it out leaving some excess plastic and then FILE down that plastic. You won't have any nub stress marks that way. Thats how the Gundam builders do it.

    about the price, these are actually cheaper in Hong Kong than the regular kits on launch. although a lot of the kits do drop prices. Storm troopers cost the same as droids now, but kits like boba fett don't get cheaper.

  • @TheTrognation
    @TheTrognation 5 лет назад

    That R2 kind of looks like an inverted version of Biggs' droid, R2-Q2, give or take some white stripes. Given all the reuse lately, I think Bandai's saving up for something big, or maybe they're still recouping from Grievous. A kit I'd love would be Jango Fett, which could share some parts with Boba, so I don't think it's too unrealistic.

    Haha oh yeah first here! I haven’t ever built a Bandai Star Wars kit and I kind of want to get into them but I don’t know where to start, any suggestions? Also, it’s the plastic itself that was making those marks not the type or nippers you were using. You get those marks a lot when building Gundam model kits, some colors mark more than others and the darker ones tend to be easier to mark. Last thing, a lot of the time Bandai show painted models in the instructions/promotional pictures so that’s why those pieces were shown without having decals because it comes out cheaper if they don’t include them(and also promotes painting kits which is the best option)
