No doubt we will get to see that scene in full in Part 3. Kinda similar to how we saw partially saw Aerith and her mom in a flashback in Remake, and then the full scene in Rebirth.
The side content in Rebirth is the biggest reason for the sheer size of this game. It’s almost night and day how much faster it is to get through this game when only focusing on the main story. I feel like maybe they were expecting more players to focus on the story primarily for their first play through. I’m glad that you enjoyed these games. Especially for being a brand new fan of this franchise. When you start cosplaying and collecting merchandise, that’s when you know you are serious as a fan. Lol People are constantly playing FF7 Remake as their first ever FF experience. Doesn’t matter where you start as long as you enjoyed them enough to become a fan. Amazing Sephiroth cosplay. The new story is so much more complicated. We didn't have the other timelines in the 90s. Imagine going into this with no foreshadowing except for Caith Sith's fortune from Gold Saucer.
2:26:38 As you can see here in the end credits, Aerith is the canon Rosa. Aerith is also the default Rosa if you get Barret, Red and the trio (Caith Sith, Vincent and Cid) as dates. So that makes it 4 out of 6 dates. Cloud=Hero Aerith=Rosa Sephiroth=Varvados -I hope you watch, not only the Aerith date, but the whole Loveless play with Aerith so you'll see the parallels of its story with Rebirth. Cloud's reaction as she sings is also different. -Cloud and Aerith also met at the "Loveless" street and under the "Loveless" poster in OG. -Kitase said that "Hollow" is Cloud's song about his feelings and "No Promises to Keep" is about Aerith's feelings and he wanted players to pay attention to that. -Loving someone beyond death is something that FF games are known for.
For someone who didn’t play the OG, your theories and analysis is pretty damn impressive. Didn’t get it all right (or there are things still tbd), but damn pretty impressive.
The church scene is one of my favorite in rebirth but I prefer the Japanese translation of the church scene, it's much more fitting and hits different. Cloud : The place we share memories it's here Aerith: Correct Cloud: Too easy Aerith: I don't have that many memories Cloud: We'll make them from now on Aerith: Is that how you feel Cloud: Yeah sure (high affinity) Cloud turns his body at her and she smiles. (I would recommend to watch the scene with the high affinity just for the cloud movements and a different dialogue makes a big difference in Interpretation) or : Because we're comrades right (Low affinity) doesn't look at her and she's slightly disappointed. (You'll get this scene if you never had aerith in any of the gs date), I believe they kept the scene here because cloud doesn't know her feelings towards him at the moment. The rest of the translation in the scene is pretty accurate.

That whole portion from the date to the church scene was some of the most beautiful, romantic and sad storytelling in the whole game for me. There were definitely a few Aeirth x Cloud streamers that were basically ugly crying the entire time haha. It was great. The wait for part 3 is going to be pure agony.

I found your channel when I got your Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough recommended to me. When I saw that you were going to play your first Final Fantasy game and it was Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth I wanted to see what your experience with it would be. First I would like to thank you for sharing this playthrough of Rebirth and I absolutely love the way you immerse yourself in the game. Whenever I see a streamer that has chat and notifications on I think it is a shame that they get pulled out of the game all the time. I also appreciate the chapters you edit into each of your videos, makes it so much easier to skip to the parts I am most interested in watching. I am a big fan of the original Final Fantasy VII and I have a hard time getting into the modern Final Fantasy games myself. Thanks to your channel I can at least enjoy the game through your eyes. I am glad to see you had such a great time playing these games and I think it is great that people can discover the story of Final Fantasy VII in a new way. It is unfortunate that you now have to wait so long for the conclusion of this story. I hope you continue to have fun playing games!
The flashing back and forth of Aerith with and without blood I took it to mean Tifa was seeing both at the same time. You'll notice the camera goes to her, you see the flashing back and forth, then the camera goes back to Tifa. That's a movie technique to explain to the audience what a particular character sees.
Whatever it is I took it as the party perspective seeing her blood lifeless Cloud himself holding her hand rather than they are getting flashes. Nevertheless it's not something particularly important since everyone but Cloud accepts right away that she died indicated by their full limit breaks at the Jenova fight
@@thebrigade7684 I thought it was pretty obvious it was that as well. Tifa is not seeing "both", the perspective is changing from Cloud's to the party's. Cloud's has nothing, but to the party she's literally on the ground full of blood with her eyes closed. Also, because of censorship but as they say limits breed creativity.
That was such a great playthrough, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Managed to watch the whole episode now and although I'm a bit disappointed with how they changed Aerith's death, it still hit so hard, especially when Cloud started seeing her afterwards and she's just standing there silent looking at the rest. And then when that song started playing, omg... 😭 You were amazing with the combat and mini-games, as well as the theory crafting! I hope you do some additional FF7 videos, with more theories, thoughts, etc. FF7 characters have a special place in my heart for almost 2 decades now, so more is always welcome and I love how invested you are in it. ☺
I actually don’t buy into the idea there are alternate versions of any characters. You never see any moments where they show the original version of a character and then the next showing what the alternate version of them conscious and doing things. For example, you only see one Marlene. But the one you see in Rebirth is IN the “alternate” world but feels, acts, and has memories like the remake Marlene.
Great stuff, wanted to comment long ago, but I just finished this game my own self. 240hrs, 2.5 months... loved it every bit. So much to do, so much to experience. As compared to movies, music, books, ... what an emotional experience around every corner. Nothing is worse then watching a show and feeling nothing... blah... yet here we live in a time where a video game can wring out laughter, anger, excitement, and tears in every scene and gameplay. OH the feelz.... it will be so hard of a wait for part 3.

IMO Aerith is dead-dead, she is in the lifestream now. Cloud can see her, because of Hojo's experiments on him, this is also why Nanaki can sense her, but not entirely see her, and nobody else can, well maybe Vincent? But that edgelord doesn't say anything :D However Cloud can't face reality that she really died, so he makes up in his mind that he managed to save her. Sephiroth literally says that he has clouded eyes, Cloud doesn't face reality and would rather believe a lie. He doesn't even question the others why they can't see Aerith, he is also not questioning why everybody else is shattered and sad, he is completely out of his mind, probably in the worst state since ever. Also both whispers tried to prevent Cloud from saving her, that means the planet and Sephiroth wanted her dead. Only with her death she can save the planet or Sephiroth can achieve his goal, either way she needs to die and at some point Aerith accepted that fate, Cloud obviously didn't and makes up his own reality, at least in his head. The other worlds and timelines..., i think it is purposely confusing the player without doing anything extra. People who died are dead (e.g. Zack) and those who should die died in the end anyway (e.g. Biggs), the other worlds are just divergences but not entire own worlds, the other worlds can't survive, they have a death sentence, which they can't avoid. Imagine a root of a plant, which has one main root and from this root there are branches. They still belong to the mainroot, but they are nothing without the mainroot. It's not a multiverse or multiworlds. Also it won't matter in the end, because all worlds will unite again, so there will be only one mainworld left again, the one we are playing and witnessing in the first place. A lot of people mention the raindbow effect, however when Sephiroth separated Cloud and Zack it also had the rainbow effect, so that effect doesn't need to be positive, it's just Sephiroth (or Aerith) manipulating it. Some people argue Cloud can do that too, but I don't see why and how he should be able to do that, he isn't like Aerith or Sephiroth. Anyway it will be a massive task to fix Cloud's mind after all this, Part 3 can't come soon enough.
So they completely changed the iconic scene just to say cloud just imagined all of it, more people are going to get disappointed if it's the case, If that's the reason for changing the scene and showing somewhere in part 3, where it basically happened same as the og, does it have any impact at that point, for cloud sure but what about aerith they ruined the moment. I'm expecting a different outcome for any pay off to changing the scene. if it's the same, I don't like it personally.

@@christopherclegg4123 yeah and SEPHIROTH says the "worlds are doomed" but AERITH says that the future CAN be changed. That fate isn't set in stone. SHE says that, and I'm more inclined to listen to her than listen to what Sephiroth says lol
I think she’s dead too but some form of her is still in the lifestream because Sepiroth still needs to be defeated but honestly it could go either way. This ending was confusing on purpose lol
I'm very interested in hearing your theories for part 3 and i don't know you did this already or not but i recommend you to watch loveless again by having aerith as rosa it fits to the ending so much in my opinion and lastly again as of right now i don't know if you actually listend carefully to no promises to keep lyrics or not but i highly suggest you to listen to the lyrics of both "hollow" from remake and "no promises to keep"

In the original, I didn't care that she died, I was a kid. With Remake and Rebirth, they humanized Aerith and both games destroyed me emotionally while playing. I wanted her to live so badly. In remake, I got the scene with her instead of Tifa and the words haunted me both playthroughs. "Don't fall in love with me." Amazing playthrough Whimsy!
I'm impressed how much You were able to understand immediately of what is happening in the story. For me it took maybe to rewatch 3 times to digest all the information, and all the subtle hints 😅. And great cosplay btw, it was a great playthrough to follow
Playing the VII Remake compilation, it's easy to see the love and artistic care that the devs poured into it. Rebirth is a long game, but it is the only game I've wanted to devote time to since it's release. The burn out does really kick in though when you commit to trying to 100% the game. I'm still a ways off getting the trophy and already at 250 hours. Rebirth's goofiness is on brand, if you ever play the OG you will understand. But I think where it went wrong was the pacing of the tone shifts. eg. After Dyne's incredibly sad passing you have the situation flipped on it's head and suddenly you are thrown into a boss fight that involves a large man shaking his booty. These two events should not have been next to each other, and it gave the game an overall silly tone because the serious moments rarely had any room to breath. This got me thinking though. I wonder if the direction was intended. Maybe they are trying to create some tonal seperation between the 3 games for their longevity. I feel like everything that transpires in ch14 needs to tie in with OGs story. I suspect this is going to result in part 3 being a very dark and sad game from the get go...especially if some of the theory crafting surrounding Aerith ends up being true.
I had an amazing time watching you play this game. As for the ending, it’s all up in the air depending on who you ask. Even those of us that grew up with the original are not sure what happened in the ending. At first impression, I think some form of Aerith lives in the lifestream but she’s dead in the physical world and Cloud hasn’t accepted that yet but that’s just my interpretation. We’ll have to know for sure in the next game since they changed a few things. I would love for you to do a theory video. You were so accurate in so many things just by playing the two games! ❤ thank you for the awesome playthrough!
My personal understanding of this whole thing is that between Sephiroth dropping down towards Aerith and the party leaving the pool, the game cuts back and forth between two separate reality forks: the 'main' one in which Aerith dies and another one, denoted by rainbow effects on the screen, in which she was saved. The two are cleverly intercut so that they kinda seem like one consecutive sequence rather than two, further obfuscated by Sephiroth existing across both forks, the Cloud in the 'main' fork overwriting 'their' Aerith's death with false memories, and the 'saved' Aerith hopping across to help 'main' Cloud for the final fight. Try rewatchin' the whole sequence paying attention to when the rainbow shows up and when it doesn't, and see if that makes any sense. Other theories are equally valid!
@@sujithg6902 The party doesn't see neither the white whispers at the altar neither the white light with rainbow but also this rainbow effect itself is more connected to the lifestream rather than actual Marvel multiverse

A theory video would be great. Even hardcore fans of the original are debating exactly what the ending means and I imagine it must be even more weird if you haven't played that one.

Random thing I noticed I thought was neat: The song Cid is humming while fixing the Tiny Bronco is the "Bridge Theme" from the original Final Fantasy, and appears in some form in almost every game in the series. It's a bit of a joke because a character named Cid *also* appears in almost every game in the series, though it's usually not the same character. Tifaerith 5evr! ;)

I came here for Mass effect, and have loved your playthroughs of final fantasy and god of war. will be looking forward to MGS as it's something I grew up on. Once you finish final fantasy remake series I would love to see you revisit the OG eventually. but i love how honestly and openly you engage with games and am sure ill enjoy watching any of the content that you make :) long time fan earned here
I think what happened there was that Sephiroth started the reunion of worlds as Cloud saved Aerith, so even though she didn't die in one of those realities, she is now dead because the worlds have merged. So he found a way to kill her regardless. The Aerith that fights Sephiroth alongside Cloud is the real one in the lifestream, her spirit/consciousness. The one Cloud keeps seeing after her death is either his mind coping with the loss, or Jenova cells in him pretending like she's still alive.
Everyone who played the original went through the same experience you are playing the remake. We just got to do it in one playthrough. And there was no Crisis Core yet. We didnt have anything to spoil the ending. So your decision to play these blind is a great way to play them. Your Sephiroth cosplay was perfect! Looking forward to Dragon Age (fingers crossed) kupo!

According to the ultimania, "I underestimated you" was aimed at Aerith. Btw, I personally think it isn't one or the other concerning the ending. I think Aerith died for the rest of the party. I also think Cloud saved her in another world. I suspect Cloud is stuck peering into 2 different realities simultaneously, but he isn't capable of comprehending what he is seeing. He seemingly blocked out the death he saw, he is in disconnect from the emotions of others. He doesn't question why they're grieving. Cloud wasn't doing well handling one reality, seeing more than one can't be good for his mental health. It's a nice bit of cosmic horror, imo.
One thing about playing the game on hard mode you can actually replenish your magic and HP points on the Chocobo ventures of the Chocobo stops and also avoid Advent children as well. It’s a movie about the cast of fantasy seven after the original game there’s some spoilers in that one too.

Great Sephi cosplay! You're correct in thinking that Aerith is dead and in the Lifestream and that Cloud is disassociating from reality. Part 3 is going to hit harder than it did in the OG game. That's all I'll say. If you want to go into Part 3 completely blind, it'd be best to avoid all comments and discussions about FFVII for the next three years, since most theorycrafters know the OG story and everything from the FFVII compilation.

As a viewer only, it was a little bit too many mini games and silly side quests. Felt like time consuming fluff to me but hey... I get that Rebirth had comparatively more lighter and "goofier" moments than Remake, but I definitely teared up more during this game from sad moments. Anyway, love your reactions and analysis. Even if I don't agree with your criticisms, your playthroughs are still some of my favourites.

Also, when you mentioned potentially playing the Batman Arkham series, I got excited. Those are some of my favorite games ever, and I feel like you would enjoy them. The combat is fantastic, as are the stories and the Batman mythos overall. Honestly I’m gonna wait to part 3 to say more about my thoughts cuz even tho I loved the game there a few flaws one of them being some things are set up for part 3( which is nothing wrong about that mind u but can be bit frustrating it’s like with spider man into the spider verse that it’s amazing but ends on a cliffhanger for part 3) like cid, Vincent and Zack getting little screen time. For FF recommendations, considering you liked VII Remake and not XVI I would say it's because you like: - the modern aesthetic more - intrigue and mystery - combat So I would add to the voices that said VIII, X and maybe even XIII. Though keep in mind the older FFs aren't action-focused at all. It only started becoming action-oriented from XV on.
whimsy! first of all, amazing cosplay (that intro, damn, haha!) und amazing playthrough as a whole! i think the audience really appreciates, how much effort and thought you put into it, the editing is on point and brainsy psyche also striked back with all the theoretizing, which was a lot of fun! so i aggree with most of your positive words about the game. i love these characters so much, the cutscenes are amazing, music etc. its just a damn well made game. but i had huge problems with the ending personally. although i really like all your theoretizing about all those questions, the story provokes, i think the problem of this kind of storytelling shows the most, when it should matter the most: at aeriths "death". as you said it yourself: "i dont know, but i think whats going on, is she died" - from my standpoint of view, exactly that is the problem. it shoudnt be a confusing, it should just be a impactful moment. i really dislike the ending. i was never a big fan of storys with multiple worlds/dimensions, anyway. i enjoyed rebirth till that point, but i was so excited for how they do the famous ending. i was ready to cry, but the truth is: i felt nothing at all. because as i see it, its just a ending, that should be a brainfuck, something, you can interprete, where you can think about it a lot. but that comes at the cost of the dramatic impact. the moment, "it" happened, i was more busy, figuring out, what the heck even happened, that i was not able to feel something and beeing moved by it. its a ending for the mind, not for the heart. i was ready to cry, but they made me think about it. i already heard of many interpretations regarding that ending, but not one, that seems worth it for me, to sacrifice the dramatic impact of a simple and more clarify ending. so for me they failed at this specific point, and, i have to say it unfortunately, because the ending is so important, the whole game was kind of a disappointment for me.. dont wanna confront anybode although, its a great game for sure.. but it just didnt worked for me. i mean, you even said it yourself.. in the end its the old MCU problem, what does a death even mean, when "somehow everybody is still alive in one or another form". but i get it, that it doesnt bothers you as much as me.. i love aerith so much. she deserved it better.

Thank you for, honestly, the best playthrough I've watched. I'll miss these videos, but I have like 40 BG videos to catch up and now you are playing MGS!!! If you ever want to come back to a FF, the all around best are 6,9, 10, tactics and 14. 6, 9 and tactics don't have VA, and 14 is a MMO.
Check out the end credits. You skipped ahead and missed the very end. There are 2 moments where there are missing slides. Definitely done on purpose. Also at the end Aeriths eyes do not open in the slide like they do in the game.

The side content in Rebirth is the biggest reason for the sheer size of this game. It’s almost night and day how much faster it is to get through this game when only focusing on the main story. I feel like maybe they were expecting more players to focus on the story primarily for their first play through. I’m glad that you enjoyed these games. Especially for being a brand new fan of this franchise. When you start cosplaying and collecting merchandise, that’s when you know you are serious as a fan. 2:26:38 As you can see here in the end credits, Aerith is the canon Rosa. Aerith is also the default Rosa if you get Barret, Red and the trio (Caith Sith, Vincent and Cid) as dates. So that makes it 4 out of 6 dates.

-I hope you watch, not only the Aerith date, but the whole Loveless play with Aerith so you'll see the parallels of its story with Rebirth. Cloud's reaction as she sings is also different.

-Kitase said that "Hollow" is Cloud's song about his feelings and "No Promises to Keep" is about Aerith's feelings and he wanted players to pay attention to that.

The church scene is one of my favorite in rebirth but I prefer the Japanese translation of the church scene, it's much more fitting and hits different.

The rest of the translation in the scene is pretty accurate.

That whole portion from the date to the church scene was some of the most beautiful, romantic and sad storytelling in the whole game for me. There were definitely a few Aeirth x Cloud streamers that were basically ugly crying the entire time haha. It was great. The wait for part 3 is going to be pure agony.

I found your channel when I got your Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough recommended to me. When I saw that you were going to play your first Final Fantasy game and it was Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth I wanted to see what your experience with it would be.
First I would like to thank you for sharing this playthrough of Rebirth and I absolutely love the way you immerse yourself in the game. Whenever I see a streamer that has chat and notifications on I think it is a shame that they get pulled out of the game all the time. The flashing back and forth of Aerith with and without blood I took it to mean Tifa was seeing both at the same time. You'll notice the camera goes to her, you see the flashing back and forth, then the camera goes back to Tifa. That's a movie technique to explain to the audience what a particular character sees.
Presumably her experience in the Lifestream gives her some capacity to see things like this, which the others primarily do not have.

Whatever it is I took it as the party perspective seeing her blood lifeless Cloud himself holding her hand rather than they are getting flashes. Nevertheless it's not something particularly important since everyone but Cloud accepts right away that she died indicated by their full limit breaks at the Jenova fight
@@thebrigade7684 I thought it was pretty obvious it was that as well. Tifa is not seeing "both", the perspective is changing from Cloud's to the party's. Cloud's has nothing, but to the party she's literally on the ground full of blood with her eyes closed.
Also, because of censorship but as they say limits breed creativity.
That was such a great playthrough, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Managed to watch the whole episode now and although I'm a bit disappointed with how they changed Aerith's death, it still hit so hard, especially when Cloud started seeing her afterwards and she's just standing there silent looking at the rest. And then when that song started playing, omg... 😭
You were amazing with the combat and mini-games, as well as the theory crafting! I hope you do some additional FF7 videos, with more theories, thoughts, etc. FF7 characters have a special place in my heart for almost 2 decades now, so more is always welcome and I love how invested you are in it. ☺

I actually don’t buy into the idea there are alternate versions of any characters. You never see any moments where they show the original version of a character and then the next showing what the alternate version of them conscious and doing things. For example, you only see one Marlene. But the one you see in Rebirth is IN the “alternate” world but feels, acts, and has memories like the remake Marlene.
Great stuff, wanted to comment long ago, but I just finished this game my own self. 240hrs, 2.5 months... loved it every bit. So much to do, so much to experience. As compared to movies, music, books, ... what an emotional experience around every corner. Nothing is worse then watching a show and feeling nothing... blah... yet here we live in a time where a video game can wring out laughter, anger, excitement, and tears in every scene and gameplay. OH the feelz.... it will be so hard of a wait for part 3.
Speaking of loving your playthrough I’m glad you gave FF7 remake and rebirth a try I really enjoyed your playthrough of remake and rebirth and I also been loving your theories on the story of FF7. part 3 will be interesting and can’t wait for it. the only thing I’m worried it could take another 4 years for part 3. loved the sephiroth cosplay aswell
IMO Aerith is dead-dead, she is in the lifestream now. Cloud can see her, because of Hojo's experiments on him, this is also why Nanaki can sense her, but not entirely see her, and nobody else can, well maybe Vincent? But that edgelord doesn't say anything :D
However Cloud can't face reality that she really died, so he makes up in his mind that he managed to save her. Sephiroth literally says that he has clouded eyes, Cloud doesn't face reality and would rather believe a lie. He doesn't even question the others why they can't see Aerith, he is also not questioning why everybody else is shattered and sad, he is completely out of his mind, probably in the worst state since ever.
Also both whispers tried to prevent Cloud from saving her, that means the planet and Sephiroth wanted her dead. Only with her death she can save the planet or Sephiroth can achieve his goal, either way she needs to die and at some point Aerith accepted that fate, Cloud obviously didn't and makes up his own reality, at least in his head.
The other worlds and timelines..., i think it is purposely confusing the player without doing anything extra. People who died are dead (e.g. Zack) and those who should die died in the end anyway (e.g. Biggs), the other worlds are just divergences but not entire own worlds, the other worlds can't survive, they have a death sentence, which they can't avoid. Imagine a root of a plant, which has one main root and from this root there are branches. They still belong to the mainroot, but they are nothing without the mainroot.
It's not a multiverse or multiworlds. Also it won't matter in the end, because all worlds will unite again, so there will be only one mainworld left again, the one we are playing and witnessing in the first place.
A lot of people mention the raindbow effect, however when Sephiroth separated Cloud and Zack it also had the rainbow effect, so that effect doesn't need to be positive, it's just Sephiroth (or Aerith) manipulating it. Some people argue Cloud can do that too, but I don't see why and how he should be able to do that, he isn't like Aerith or Sephiroth.
Anyway it will be a massive task to fix Cloud's mind after all this, Part 3 can't come soon enough.
So they completely changed the iconic scene just to say cloud just imagined all of it, more people are going to get disappointed if it's the case, If that's the reason for changing the scene and showing somewhere in part 3, where it basically happened same as the og, does it have any impact at that point, for cloud sure but what about aerith they ruined the moment. I'm expecting a different outcome for any pay off to changing the scene. if it's the same, I don't like it personally.

@@christopherclegg4123 yeah and SEPHIROTH says the "worlds are doomed" but AERITH says that the future CAN be changed. That fate isn't set in stone. SHE says that, and I'm more inclined to listen to her than listen to what Sephiroth says lol
I think she’s dead too but some form of her is still in the lifestream because Sepiroth still needs to be defeated but honestly it could go either way. This ending was confusing on purpose lol
I'm very interested in hearing your theories for part 3 and i don't know you did this already or not but i recommend you to watch loveless again by having aerith as rosa it fits to the ending so much in my opinion and lastly again as of right now i don't know if you actually listend carefully to no promises to keep lyrics or not but i highly suggest you to listen to the lyrics of both "hollow" from remake and "no promises to keep"

In the original, I didn't care that she died, I was a kid. With Remake and Rebirth, they humanized Aerith and both games destroyed me emotionally while playing. I wanted her to live so badly.
In remake, I got the scene with her instead of Tifa and the words haunted me both playthroughs. "Don't fall in love with me."

Playing the VII Remake compilation, it's easy to see the love and artistic care that the devs poured into it. Rebirth is a long game, but it is the only game I've wanted to devote time to since it's release. The burn out does really kick in though when you commit to trying to 100% the game. I'm still a ways off getting the trophy and already at 250 hours.
Rebirth's goofiness is on brand, if you ever play the OG you will understand. But I think where it went wrong was the pacing of the tone shifts. eg. After Dyne's incredibly sad passing you have the situation flipped on it's head and suddenly you are thrown into a boss fight that involves a large man shaking his booty. These two events should not have been next to each other, and it gave the game an overall silly tone because the serious moments rarely had any room to breath.
This got me thinking though. I wonder if the direction was intended. Maybe they are trying to create some tonal seperation between the 3 games for their longevity. I feel like everything that transpires in ch14 needs to tie in with OGs story. I suspect this is going to result in part 3 being a very dark and sad game from the get go...especially if some of the theory crafting surrounding Aerith ends up being true.
I had an amazing time watching you play this game. As for the ending, it’s all up in the air depending on who you ask. Even those of us that grew up with the original are not sure what happened in the ending. At first impression, I think some form of Aerith lives in the lifestream but she’s dead in the physical world and Cloud hasn’t accepted that yet but that’s just my interpretation. We’ll have to know for sure in the next game since they changed a few things. I would love for you to do a theory video. You were so accurate in so many things just by playing the two games! ❤ thank you for the awesome playthrough!
My personal understanding of this whole thing is that between Sephiroth dropping down towards Aerith and the party leaving the pool, the game cuts back and forth between two separate reality forks: the 'main' one in which Aerith dies and another one, denoted by rainbow effects on the screen, in which she was saved. The two are cleverly intercut so that they kinda seem like one consecutive sequence rather than two, further obfuscated by Sephiroth existing across both forks, the Cloud in the 'main' fork overwriting 'their' Aerith's death with false memories, and the 'saved' Aerith hopping across to help 'main' Cloud for the final fight. Try rewatchin' the whole sequence paying attention to when the rainbow shows up and when it doesn't, and see if that makes any sense. Other theories are equally valid!
I think the rainbow cuts are lifestream aerith trying to hold clouds mind together. I do t believe she survived in any reality.
or you know it just could have been cloud blocking a imagined sephiroth hallucination same as he was having throughout the entire story.

I came here for Mass effect, and have loved your playthroughs of final fantasy and god of war. will be looking forward to MGS as it's something I grew up on. Once you finish final fantasy remake series I would love to see you revisit the OG eventually. but i love how honestly and openly you engage with games and am sure ill enjoy watching any of the content that you make :) long time fan earned here
I think what happened there was that Sephiroth started the reunion of worlds as Cloud saved Aerith, so even though she didn't die in one of those realities, she is now dead because the worlds have merged. So he found a way to kill her regardless.
The Aerith that fights Sephiroth alongside Cloud is the real one in the lifestream, her spirit/consciousness. The one Cloud keeps seeing after her death is either his mind coping with the loss, or Jenova cells in him pretending like she's still alive.
What a game what a journey from re-make to here. Whatever game you play next, Im there! Really fun times Whimsy!!

Everyone who played the original went through the same experience you are playing the remake. We just got to do it in one playthrough. And there was no Crisis Core yet. We didnt have anything to spoil the ending. So your decision to play these blind is a great way to play them.

According to the ultimania, "I underestimated you" was aimed at Aerith.
Btw, I personally think it isn't one or the other concerning the ending. I think Aerith died for the rest of the party. I also think Cloud saved her in another world. I suspect Cloud is stuck peering into 2 different realities simultaneously, but he isn't capable of comprehending what he is seeing. He seemingly blocked out the death he saw, he is in disconnect from the emotions of others. He doesn't question why they're grieving.
Cloud wasn't doing well handling one reality, seeing more than one can't be good for his mental health. It's a nice bit of cosmic horror, imo.
One thing about playing the game on hard mode you can actually replenish your magic and HP points on the Chocobo ventures of the Chocobo stops and also avoid Advent children as well. It’s a movie about the cast of fantasy seven after the original game there’s some spoilers in that one too.

Great Sephi cosplay! You're correct in thinking that Aerith is dead and in the Lifestream and that Cloud is disassociating from reality. Part 3 is going to hit harder than it did in the OG game. That's all I'll say.
If you want to go into Part 3 completely blind, it'd be best to avoid all comments and discussions about FFVII for the next three years, since most theorycrafters know the OG story and everything from the FFVII compilation.

I get that Rebirth had comparatively more lighter and "goofier" moments than Remake, but I definitely teared up more during this game from sad moments.

Also, when you mentioned potentially playing the Batman Arkham series, I got excited. Those are some of my favorite games ever, and I feel like you would enjoy them. The combat is fantastic, as are the stories and the Batman mythos overall. Honestly I’m gonna wait to part 3 to say more about my thoughts cuz even tho I loved the game there a few flaws one of them being some things are set up for part 3( which is nothing wrong about that mind u but can be bit frustrating it’s like with spider man into the spider verse that it’s amazing but ends on a cliffhanger for part 3) like cid, Vincent and Zack getting little screen time. For FF recommendations, considering you liked VII Remake and not XVI I would say it's because you like:
- the modern aesthetic more
- intrigue and mystery
- combat
So I would add to the voices that said VIII, X and maybe even XIII. Though keep in mind the older FFs aren't action-focused at all. It only started becoming action-oriented from XV on.
whimsy! first of all, amazing cosplay (that intro, damn, haha!) und amazing playthrough as a whole! i think the audience really appreciates, how much effort and thought you put into it, the editing is on point and brainsy psyche also striked back with all the theoretizing, which was a lot of fun!
so i aggree with most of your positive words about the game. i love these characters so much, the cutscenes are amazing, music etc. its just a damn well made game.
but i had huge problems with the ending personally.
although i really like all your theoretizing about all those questions, the story provokes, i think the problem of this kind of storytelling shows the most, when it should matter the most: at aeriths "death".
as you said it yourself: "i dont know, but i think whats going on, is she died" - from my standpoint of view, exactly that is the problem. it shoudnt be a confusing, it should just be a impactful moment.
i really dislike the ending. i was never a big fan of storys with multiple worlds/dimensions, anyway. i enjoyed rebirth till that point, but i was so excited for how they do the famous ending. i was ready to cry, but the truth is: i felt nothing at all. because as i see it, its just a ending, that should be a brainfuck, something, you can interprete, where you can think about it a lot. but that comes at the cost of the dramatic impact. the moment, "it" happened, i was more busy, figuring out, what the heck even happened, that i was not able to feel something and beeing moved by it. its a ending for the mind, not for the heart. i was ready to cry, but they made me think about it. i already heard of many interpretations regarding that ending, but not one, that seems worth it for me, to sacrifice the dramatic impact of a simple and more clarify ending. so for me they failed at this specific point, and, i have to say it unfortunately, because the ending is so important, the whole game was kind of a disappointment for me..
dont wanna confront anybode although, its a great game for sure.. but it just didnt worked for me. i mean, you even said it yourself.. in the end its the old MCU problem, what does a death even mean, when "somehow everybody is still alive in one or another form". but i get it, that it doesnt bothers you as much as me..
i love aerith so much. she deserved it better.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I haven't played the OG, so I can't compare, but I can imagine for long time players it might be different. And I agree with you, I think what you're saying is very valid. I'm sad to hear it taints your whole experience with the game though, but I get it. Sometimes when we're disappointed at the end of a game it does that. I don't think it's confronting to have that opinion, you're allowed to dislike the ending and your arguments are logical imo.

Check out the end credits. You skipped ahead and missed the very end. There are 2 moments where there are missing slides. Definitely done on purpose. Also at the end Aeriths eyes do not open in the slide like they do in the game.
