lol if these ships parked in a stable orbit (to remove much need for engines to stay 'afloat' at an appropriate inclination the star ships would taken years or never crashed back into the surface. they could prob wait till after the war was over and still have time to go up and salvage the wrecks
Well, it really depends on what maneuvers they do. If they simply change orbits during the fight - they won't fall to surface for eons even with engines disabled. But if they slow down below orbital speed (to keep themselves above specific point of surface, for example) and keep themselves on choosen altitude in case their battle maneuvers require to - they may fall.
@Chosen One They did demiliarized. The Senate passed The Demilitarization Act. The funding for the Republic fleet was transfered to the local defense systems. They retired most of the New Republic ships including the Raddus.
@Chosen One Not really. What happens if dictatorship or a power hungry government suddenly rules a system and then sets off a military campaign? (Say the Zygerrians) and they have their own fleet of starships. The New Republic will be screwed
@Chosen One Look what happen to The New Republic at Episode 7. After The First Order used Starkiller base destroyed the Republic Senate and MAJORITY of the Starfleet, the galaxy was fucked. Several star systems fell with little to no resistance since it's every planet on it's own. Unlike the Republic fleet that covers the entire galaxy, the local defense systems only cover their own system.
@Chosen One those were not armies, those were scavenged ships and mostly regular people, there were 0 large cruisers to fight the Final Order, mostly cargo ships and modified frigates. If the new republic would’ve had a well fortified Star fleet the First Order would’ve never won, watch how a single Star destroyer took over an entire planet, that’s how weak the New Republic was.

The over-bloated empire was REBORN! Into an equally as incompetent successor state with even less military power. pheh. Such a s shame because this was a clever battle too, the last clever thing to happen post-endor. :/
The Imperial strategy here has always been one I like. Using the Star Destroyers to shield the more valuable Ravager seems like it would work by just waiting until the Empires superior fire power defeated enough rebel ships to just Zerg rush the rebel fleet.
KarmaTiger dude, you’re on RUclips and you’re trying to be literal? Outro is just a colloquialism that’s used to be the opposite of an intro. Also, as previously stated, outroductions do exist. Stop trying to be a smartass since it just makes you look ignorant.
I heard that the Empire did not end at Jakku with the First Order becoming its successor in the unknown regions, but rather an Imperial remnant remains centered around the core worlds, with the New Republic mainly in the mid and outer rim. Granted, new canon in general is still muddled but that is what I heard the "Galactic Concordance" was all about.
this is probably my favorite battle in all of the star wars material I've seen so far. Having this as the conclusion to the Aftermath Trilogy was gold.
Wait, Battle of Jakku is just one year four days after Endor? That's....a lot sooner than I thought, with the notes being made about how the low morale Imperial troops suffered. Also NR having bleeding edge technology sounds like complete BS. How did an insurgent group that had to literally steal to arm themselves suddenly gained control of the highest possible tech that the Empire can't already replicate? Also OP tractor beam aside, does SSD not come with repulsorlifts any more?
also "bleeding Edge" is kinda overstating.. the ISD Design was nearly 20+ Years old at the Battle ofJakuu, the SSD around 5... the Technology could be from like 2 Yeasr ago and it woudl still be bleeding edge in comparison tothe Empires
Because stealing technology was always a high priority in the Rebel Alliance, starting with their starfighters. Additionally, there was little opportunity for advancement in the Empire for non-humans, so the Imperial Navy largely missed out on the talents of designers who were from other species.
After the NR starts winning across the galaxy (Paldora mentions just how badly the Empire is on the run), tech companies that always sympathized with the rebels, or even the elite that don’t necessarily but sense which way the wind is blowing, would start flocking over to their camp. According to the Darth Vader comics, the Empire had at least 3 SDs within a year of Revenge of the Sith - is it outside of the realm of possibility that a significant portion of a galaxy’s worth of elite, the motivation of a war, and the same amount of time could give the NR at least 3 Starhawks in a year? The Empire had the whole galaxy instead of having a divided intellectual sphere, yes, but the war against the separatists holdouts impacted the galaxy roughly zero in terms of wartime versus peacetime - and war tech always increases exponentially faster in times of war
Perhaps in term of a usual government system, the aspect that war tech stagnates over peacetime would be accurate, but as the Empire has a significant focus on the military to maintain the galaxy, its tech is bound to improve over the years - though admittingly, as you implied, - albeit slower. But even with the major companies of Rebel sympathizers flowing over to the NR at the end of the war, to think that R&D being done for some bleeding edge tech over a year that even things like the highly funded Imperial Department of Military Research - who built the death star - can't even match is just out there for me. For comparison, it's like General Electric suddenly exceeding DARPA in an arms race in 5 years.
Even with all the nebulas that were sent to jakku and also (like you said) they housed HUNDREDS of sd's which in my opinion is outrageus. Even no matter how big a fleet of rebellion ships go there to "investigate" how did they win cause 1 nebula must contain at least 1-200 sd's which even if there were like 5 is already too strong. At least in my opinion. Probably cause of all the Starhawks How did the rebellion even win in battlefront 2, or am I thinking of the wrong jakku battle?
How Imperial ships ARE there at Jakku? Supposedly they can be defeated by a Republic fleet three times the strength of the Rebel fleet at Endor. I call shenanigans.
The rebel fleet at Endor was pretty large, the movie only directly shows one battlegroup of many. You can see far more out the windows of the Executor and deathstar.
I've been trying to count them for years. There are 13 retreating from the Death Star in the DVD version. If there are 20 total, with 5 escorts each, that's 100 ships easy.
Technically has happened on screen in Battlefront but yeah I get what you mean, a trilogy of the Aftermath books would've been awesome. We would get to see battles like The Battle of Kuat Drive Yards and Jakku.
I thought that I heard in a video that the starhawk was initially in fine condition and when they started pushing the ravenger out of orbit they decided to sacrifice themselves to make sure the ravenger couldn’t escape or dampen their fall
What a smart guy, "I know I'll get rid of the most powerful ship I have that way the future of the Empire can be pure, and better I'm so smart" a tactical genius
Idea for a galactic versus: UNSC-Sangheili fleet from Halo 3 vs the Rebel fleet at Endor. The idea here is that both fleets were making a final attack that would determine the fate of their respective galaxies.
Best transforming fighter: VF-11 thunderbolt from Macross plus vs the Union Flag from Gundam 00 vs the Viking from StarCraft vs the Mecha Tengu from Command and Conquer. Imperium Knight from Warhammer 40k vs the LED Mirage from Five Star Stories.
I really hope the disarmament act was more of a hide the New Republic military away, and those allies in the outer rim could be the New Republic Remanet.
The Dark Knight from what the books say, it’s less of a total disarming and more of a congregation of different armies. The idea that Mothma has was to have several systems and worlds help each other out as opposed to a central government
Idea: You should cover the Battle of Kuat Drive Yards in this series. It takes place after the Battle of Endor, and shows the Alliance’s efforts to disable the Imperial starship construction fields in Kuat’s upper atmosphere.
couldnt the star destroyers in turn have activated their tractors, and keep the SSD afloat? Im sure even bleeding edge tractor beams wouldnt be able to overcome like 30 other tractors? Or does the mass of the SSD prohibit them from even attempting to inanimate such a huge mass?
It could be a combination of lack of coordination, not being at an angle to use the tractor beam, needing to divert power to the beams thereby exposing shields
Thank you for explaining this in a way that we can understand the most important take-away, which is that the people who write the Star Wars novels and those who code the games have absolutely NO grasp of basic orbital mechanics. "Grabbed by Jakku's gravity?" SERIOUSLY? The gravity was present the entire time. If a ship is in orbit and its engines are disabled, it will tend to remain in orbit. Why would ANY part of the fight happen inside atmosphere? Also, why do all the space battles read like retellings of Midway, Coral Sea, or Leyte Gulf, with an occasional dose of Jutland? Magical priests and powers are fine (it's a swords-and-sorcery fantasy, NOT science fiction, after all) but if you're going to include starships, you can't just violate the simplest precepts of physics on a lazy writing whim.
What I don’t understand is how the new republic had almost complete control of the galaxy and they had the edge over the empire in every direction but lost that lead and ended up being able to fit inside the millennium falcon at full numbers, the demilitarized army basically set them up to loose another war
Ummmh... that was just the survivors of the Resistance that fit into the Falcon. There was no mention of the New Republic fleet in the movies, but we can expect that a good part of it was destroyed together with the Hosnian system. However, I don't remember them mentioning that the Hosnian system was the seat of the New Republic Government either. I guess I either missed that or it was cut out with the scenes that played there.
Can you please do A LOT of Battle Breakdowns in the next weeks? Its so awesome to see how it all happened and the strategies they used. Also, bringing down the Super Star Destroyer to the planet like that was one of the most insane strategies I've seen!
What I love is in the last mission on battlefront 2 is you hear the starhawk tall about how they are figuring out how to get the ravager out of the fight and in the first battlefront on the walker assault on jakku you see the ravager going down and it landing in its final resting place where we would see it in the force awakens
this is so stupid... like its written by a republic fanfiction writer. Why would they bring their biggest capital ship to just sit back an ocasionally fire? at least it should sit in the back firing non stop. Also what is this stay in place formation? Is this space? where you can move everywhere basically? i dont even want to start. its just stupid.
Leaving the Star Destroyer out in the open witout the fleets protection would open it up to a full force attack from the entire Alliance fleet. considering the first one was taken out by a single A-Wing crashing into it over the Death Star, the Ravager would have been shredded in absolute seconds.
@MilkySubstance Long range weapons fire from the executor supported the fleet that blockaded the alliance during the battle of Endor. It wasn't until Ackbar ordered squadrons of fighters to take out the deflector shield generators that it became possible for the A wing to do a suicide attack on the bridge, and that event was mostly due to luck as the super star destroyer's surface anti aircraft guns shredded most of the attacking fighters as did the defending tie fighters. So no, it's not an intelligent tactic to have the largest ship in the fleet sit back and do nearly nothing against an attacking foe, even by star wars' own logic this isn't a smart tactic. (sigh)... The inadequacy of the empire's leadership can serve to explain their inefficiencies and flaws due to the manner by which the empire's purging of talent as dissent functioned. This isn't highlighted nearly as much in Disney's fan fiction as it was in the EU where the Imperial remnant could not be unified after the death of the emperor because Moffs held strict control over their territories and none were willing to compromise with each other as to who would replace the emperor, this led to in fighting among them, ultimately weakening and leaving imperial territories vulnerable to exploit by the new republic's liberation forces. Galactic politics and military tactics could have been done so much better, but Disney decided to shit the bed on all of it.
It can't really fire non stop if there are other ships in the way. And they didn't bring their ships to jakku to fight, the republic found out about the imperial fleet there and attacked them first. And don't use real space logic with star wars. Thats just dumb. But you can't really be outflanked when there it a planet behind you.
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the whole franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*
What would you have done if you were the commander and supremacy along with the first order fleet chasing resistance ships?can you make a video on that?
Darth Vader I would have launched thousands of fighters from the supremacy immediately which would have led to the destruction of the resistance fleet in seconds
I would have brought 6 interdictors, and split the fleet into 4 groups (each their interdictor) using the supremacy as a fix command center for the operation also thanks to the Hyperspace detector, the operation will consist of one of the groups getting to the rebel fleet... Then Game over, if one of them gets to it they would have to deal with a well defended interdictor cruiser (Or try escaping it) bringing the time needed for the other groups to reinforce it and terminate the flagship.

2) ship is shot
3) ship quickly plummets to the planet

The Imperial strategy here has always been one I like. Using the Star Destroyers to shield the more valuable Ravager seems like it would work by just waiting until the Empires superior fire power defeated enough rebel ships to just Zerg rush the rebel fleet.
Anyone else repeatedly watching his outro?

Intro is short for introduction. There's no such thing as an outroduction. Outro isn't a word. The word you're looking for is closing.
@@KarmaTiger Outroduction is word and it is used for the closing remarks of a book.
KarmaTiger dude, you’re on RUclips and you’re trying to be literal? Outro is just a colloquialism that’s used to be the opposite of an intro. Also, as previously stated, outroductions do exist. Stop trying to be a smartass since it just makes you look ignorant.
Really loving these brilliant tactical videos Eck! They are so good! :)
Hey Eckharts, if you are going to do a spaceship versus episode, use this system to talk about the battle.
plz
"In the end, physics takes over..." just funny how physics is mentioned in a universe that constantly defies them.
This loss was a tragedy, but it was so artfully done
It brought forth a resurgence, one that again brought order.
I feel bad for the crew in the star destroyer that rammed, and the crew in the falling starhawk
this is probably my favorite battle in all of the star wars material I've seen so far. Having this as the conclusion to the Aftermath Trilogy was gold.
Never read the Thrawn trilogy, have you?
These battle breakdowns are the best
The other star destroyers should have used their tractor beams to try to keep the Ravager in position
Love the style of these kind of videos.
Supposedly by uprisings, defections and capture of hardware...
also "bleeding Edge" is kinda overstating.. the ISD Design was nearly 20+ Years old at the Battle ofJakuu, the SSD around 5... the Technology could be from like 2 Yeasr ago and it woudl still be bleeding edge in comparison tothe Empires
Imagine surviving the galactic civil war only to get shot by one of empire's star destroyers or tie fighters.
It all happened so fast.
Boy that sentence is elevated to a whole new level with star wars new cannon.
Palpatine: So how many Star Destroyers do you want?
Gallius Rex: Yes
EckhartsLadder These new videos are absolutely fantastic. Could you do a video on how the Republic won the Battle of Coruscant?
Liam O galáctica civil war or clone war?
Even with all the nebulas that were sent to jakku and also (like you said) they housed HUNDREDS of sd's which in my opinion is outrageus. Even no matter how big a fleet of rebellion ships go there to "investigate" how did they win cause 1 nebula must contain at least 1-200 sd's which even if there were like 5 is already too strong. At least in my opinion.
Probably cause of all the Starhawks
How did the rebellion even win in battlefront 2, or am I thinking of the wrong jakku battle?
Absolutely loving this new series, Eck! Could you possibly do a video on what the Empire could've done to win the battle of Endor?
Also you said thousands of star ships are hidden are they used by the first order?
as mentioned in the video: some were, some were destroyed at Jakku
Gerardo Reyes that's my theory
How Imperial ships ARE there at Jakku? Supposedly they can be defeated by a Republic fleet three times the strength of the Rebel fleet at Endor. I call shenanigans.
The rebel fleet at Endor was pretty large, the movie only directly shows one battlegroup of many. You can see far more out the windows of the Executor and deathstar.
I've been trying to count them for years. There are 13 retreating from the Death Star in the DVD version. If there are 20 total, with 5 escorts each, that's 100 ships easy.
The fall of the Ravager was probably my favourite part of the book, and it's something I would seriously love to see happen on-screen.
Technically has happened on screen in Battlefront but yeah I get what you mean, a trilogy of the Aftermath books would've been awesome. We would get to see battles like The Battle of Kuat Drive Yards and Jakku.
Im liking this new series Eck keep it up!
Man now I feel so bad for the imperials at the battle of Jakku
Never stop making these.
Love this video and channel! You’re the only Star Wars channel I can stand anymore.
Awesome video and I love both the empire and the new republic and the visual are cool. Great video
I love the battle breakdowns videos. It gives a whole new meaning to the battles.
I really like Kyrsta Agate, one of my favorite characters in aftermath.
Me too! Cool robot eye too i believe
jup, and she is both relateable and badass at the same time
I thought that I heard in a video that the starhawk was initially in fine condition and when they started pushing the ravenger out of orbit they decided to sacrifice themselves to make sure the ravenger couldn’t escape or dampen their fall

Pyres ∆t Varanasi thanks
Star Wars space battles are like chess in space. With every piece inventing it's own rules as the plot goes along..
Best transforming fighter:
VF-11 thunderbolt from Macross plus vs the Union Flag from Gundam 00 vs the Viking from StarCraft vs the Mecha Tengu from Command and Conquer.
Imperium Knight from Warhammer 40k vs the LED Mirage from Five Star Stories.
Ackbar: It's a trap
Ravenger: * does something stupid *
Ackbar: who's getting traped now?
“To deal with it” Eckhart’s tough
I really hope the disarmament act was more of a hide the New Republic military away, and those allies in the outer rim could be the New Republic Remanet.
The Dark Knight from what the books say, it’s less of a total disarming and more of a congregation of different armies. The idea that Mothma has was to have several systems and worlds help each other out as opposed to a central government
Idea: You should cover the Battle of Kuat Drive Yards in this series. It takes place after the Battle of Endor, and shows the Alliance’s efforts to disable the Imperial starship construction fields in Kuat’s upper atmosphere.
Awesome video man
Love your content.
They won the battle because the writers wrote that they won the battle.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
Do: HOW THE REPUBLIC WON GEONOSIS, or, How the Cis could have won at Geonosis!!!
Hell yeah.
Jakku is one of the most interesting battles in the new canon, love seeing it painted out like this!
I love the fact that both the New republic and the empire had creative solutions for their problems in this battle.
Amazing video eck, as always ^^
I'm happy you made this video about the battle of jakku, it is one of my favourite battles in all Star Wars
I love this bit from the book. The idea of a New Republic ship pulling down an SSD with a tractor beam is so sick to me.
They should really make a spin-off movie about this or something, it'd be interesting to see.
couldnt the star destroyers in turn have activated their tractors, and keep the SSD afloat?
They fought at atmosphere because you can't exactly be enveloped If you have a planet behind you.
C Dubious: you can't just violate the simplest precepts of physics on a lazy writing whim.
Disney : Here, hold my beer.
„Reborn in new form”
JJ abrams: forms
The intro song is so nice, it really takes you places. I even have it on Spotify after Shazam’ing it
What I don’t understand is how the new republic had almost complete control of the galaxy and they had the edge over the empire in every direction but lost that lead and ended up being able to fit inside the millennium falcon at full numbers, the demilitarized army basically set them up to loose another war
Ummmh... that was just the survivors of the Resistance that fit into the Falcon.
I'm enjoying the battle break downs ekharts keep it up
Do a vid on the battle of qat chrystac in the thrawn campaign
Was that the one with Bel Iblis and the A-Wing slash?
Really loving these vids man, easily my favourite Star Wars RUclips channel
Can you do how you would have won this battle if you were the empire, like the one on Scariff. Great video though, keep up the good work!
1:36 The Gonk droid NOOOOOOOOO! RIP (F's in the chat)
If the empire actually planned like this from the beginning they would have won
Damn that pulling them down with them thing is badass
The flood vs orks from 40k
16th atempt
This series is fantastic. If you expand into other eras there could be so much material
Love this keep it up
Very cool and informative! Love the visual stuff you put work into. It's definitely worth it!
I bet some of the ships that disappeared permanently went to palpatine final order plan
Can you please do A LOT of Battle Breakdowns in the next weeks? Its so awesome to see how it all happened and the strategies they used. Also, bringing down the Super Star Destroyer to the planet like that was one of the most insane strategies I've seen!
Autumn class cruiser vs ISD
Or
Strident class cruiser vs dreadnaught class heavy cruiser
Okay, that tractor beam trick is super clever.
"The Empire used a fairly intelligent strategy"
That sure is a sentence you don't hear very often
What I love is in the last mission on battlefront 2 is you hear the starhawk tall about how they are figuring out how to get the ravager out of the fight and in the first battlefront on the walker assault on jakku you see the ravager going down and it landing in its final resting place where we would see it in the force awakens
Recusant Class Light Destroyer vs Something.
awesome! I just read "empire's end" and the whole battle was chaos in my head... now it makes more sense :)
this is so stupid... like its written by a republic fanfiction writer. Why would they bring their biggest capital ship to just sit back an ocasionally fire? at least it should sit in the back firing non stop. Also what is this stay in place formation? Is this space? where you can move everywhere basically? i dont even want to start. its just stupid.
if real life orbital mechanics were tied with the story, the capital ship crashing because its engines died would have never happened lmao
THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FAIL, OF COURSE GALILUS RAX’s WOULD ORDER A DUMB STRATEGY
It can't really fire non stop if there are other ships in the way. And they didn't bring their ships to jakku to fight, the republic found out about the imperial fleet there and attacked them first. And don't use real space logic with star wars. Thats just dumb. But you can't really be outflanked when there it a planet behind you.
I love this new series Ecks! Can't wait for more :)
I want to see what the starhawk really looks like soon.
This was a favorite battle of mine, especially it coming from a video game made it so much more immersive
Please like and comment your opinion, thank you 🙂
2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the whole franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*
What would you have done if you were the commander and supremacy along with the first order fleet chasing resistance ships?can you make a video on that?
Oh yes! Sounds fun!!!
Pew pew with star fighters. Good idea though
Darth Vader I would have launched thousands of fighters from the supremacy immediately which would have led to the destruction of the resistance fleet in seconds
And order in a couple of interdictors...
I can't get enough of your intro and outro theme
