  • Recently, Jon Stewart went on a gun control monologue surrounded by half-political truths and outright lies, with no context to make people who are far left feel like they're smarter than they really are on his popular "The Daily Show."
His viral video "Jon Stewart Debunks GOP’s City Crime Narrative" spread lies about guns. Now, I'm here to debunk it so you can share it with your far-left friends and help them realize that Jon and his writers have no idea what they're talking about.
    Jon lies & half-truths included:
-Republicans Enabled the flood of illegal guns into the city
-Republicans allowed Guns in New York to come from gun-friendly states
-Republicans passed laws to protect gun dealers so you can't sue Gun Companies (PLCCA)
-Republicans made sure terrorists and felons can get guns with Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorist Act of 2015
-Republicans made sure criminals can turn their guns into machine guns with Bump Stocks
-Republicans made it impossible to study the effects of guns with The Dickey Amendment
-Republicans made it impossible to track illegal guns with the Firearms Owners Protection Act (1986)

This is false. German politics in the 1930's were not funny or subject for joking. They were about huge street marches and demonstrations that turned into armed combat between the Democratic Socialists and the Fascists. The Fascists won. They were more ruthless and violent AND HAD WAY MORE GUNS, provided by rich Capitalist industrialists. All of their newspapers and radio stations were anti-Left and painted the Left as the instigators of the violence. AND they had the police forces on their side eager to arrest and imprison left-wingers without charges or trials. ALL LEFTIST GUNS WERE ROOTED OUT AND CONFISCATED! The whole German Left went to concentration camps, and forced to build MORE concentration camps. It really was about locating and confiscating GUNS!............................elsullo

I just realized something about gun statistics.
"Gun deaths" include self deletions and accidents. Rural areas have far more of those than cities. Rural culture seems to have far less "gun homicide" (not counting self deletions) and way more self deletions and accidents. So much so, these stats are both correct:
"From 2011 to 2020, the most rural counties had a 46% lower rate of gun homicide deaths than the most urban counties but a 76% higher rate of gun suicide deaths, according to Reeping's analysis."
"Gun death rates are consistently higher in rural areas than in big cities, two decades of data show."
When someone compares gun stats from Red vs Blue States or cities, remember this. I was shown stats about "gun deaths" being worse where gun ownership was highest per capita...but they attempted to use this as evidence of higher gun crime where ownership is higher...which it flatly is not, because MOST gun death are self deletions (and some small number are accidents).
I would point out, Asian cultures without any gun rights have higher self deletion rates, so gun ownership is not actually causal to that rate. It's just the most effective method available, and in countries where they do more of it per capita, they just jump from high places (almost entirely men, like everywhere else).
Men commit almost all the self deletions and gun homicides, worldwide, and are far more corollary to gun crime and gun homicide as a sex, than gun ownership per capita is correlated to any rise in crime rates, gun crime rates, or gun homicide rates. Since the 1990s, crime has basically halved, across the board...all while guns proliferated, people carrying them, high capacity magazines, "assault" rifles, bump stocks, pistol braces, etc., etc., etc.
Unless you want to attempt to ban men in general from owning guns, you aren't even choosing a corollary that is more relevant than that aspect of their biology.
All those stats about guns are not corollary with gun crime stats, gun homicide stats, etc...only "gun death" stats...and it's a neat little statistics trick they use to lie to people about crime, and where it actually happens.
And it happens more in the places that are urban, and disproportionate to the Blue side's dominance in urban politics (an analogue to the rural dominance of the Red), the Blue run the worst cities more often, and the Red and Independents run the best (lowest crime, gun crime, gun homicide rates) more often.
It doesn't matter if guns are imported from States or cities with more lax laws, into States or cities with stricter ones...it's not an excuse for having worse crime, gun crime, and gun homicide rates predominately.
Perhaps, just maybe, ya know, taking away the legal ability of people to defend themselves against criminals rationally incentivizes criminals to act more on their impulse to commit crime. Maybe, just maybe, game theory mathematics is real, and you can't escape it.
By the way, there are far more crimes stopped by justifiable gun uses per year than all the gun homicides and violent gun crimes total per year...and it's by a huge multiple. Each one of those justified uses were justified by the fact someone in the presence of a person with a gun, or they themselves, were in rationally perceived fear for their lives or great bodily harm.
    STOP AND THINK ABOUT THAT.
If multiples of gun defenses from violent crimes of that level are occurring if the populace is armed, and they cannot occur if they are disarmed, but the criminality is constant in both areas, which populace do you think will have more victims???
The cause of Blue areas having higher gun homicides and gun crime are the gun restrictions, indirectly. They not only create an incentive, but even if they didn't, they allow for more successes per attempt, inflating the stats.
I have for years said gun liberalization is not causal to gun crime, and that I did not claim gun control as causal to gun crime or crime generally...merely corollary. I am changing my mind. Gun control causes higher gun crime, all other things being equal.

There are 192 countries in the world. The U.S. was (and probably still is) ranked 3rd in gun violence. If you looked at the U.S. and paid attention to the states with the highest recorded gun crime? You'd notice a trend. They are all Democrat ran. Places like Philadelphia, Chicago, California, etc...Remove those states and the U.S. would be ranked 189th in gun violence.

@@LaZd- We rank 56th in the world in violent crime...which is far more important than any particular form of violent crime among the many that make up that ranking.
Our gun violence rates are misleading when doing international comparisons...of course there are more gun deaths and gun murders as compared to where no guns are allowed, for example...but the relevant question is, how safe are we comparatively?
Our gun crime is not the majority of crime. Countries with far more suicides have no guns. Countries with way higher murder rates have lower gun murder rates. Countries with far higher violent crime rates have far less gun crime.
In the USA, blunt objects are used to murder more people every year than all rifles combined (including assault rifles).
What do you think the stats look like in those other countries, you seem to think are safer?
If you get less total crime, as to be safer, and the trade off is higher rates of a particular kind of murder...no one should care.
And we are NOT third in gun murder or murder in the world among that many countries. You have to control for poverty (which admits the actual cause) to claim such things.
We rank 56th in violent crime, in reality...i looked it up.

I find it interesting that the study specifically states that the initial sale was outside the state. This means someone purchased the gun legally and it was likely stolen (not very likely to be legally purchased, even in a private sale) and then illegally brought to said city to be sold ILLEGALLY on the black market. Even in a private sale, you have to have some reason to think the person you’re selling to is NOT a felon or planning on using the weapon to commit a crime. Which is why most private sales are between friends and family. There’s a little more certainty there.

They don't technically "lie". They tell half-truths and embellish.

It should be noted that the cdc did an exhaustive analysis of gun control studies, and was unable to point to any evidence that gun control reduces criminal misuse of firearms. (their conclusion, of course, was that "more study" was needed)

Colion, keep up the good work brother. Fighting the mindset of ignorant people is a never ending battle. I've had gun discussions with people up and down the spectrum. It takes a special kind of stupid to believe more gun laws is going to change the mindset of criminals. Sadly people like Mr. Stewart here have such a mass of people listening to them, that have very little if any experience with firearms. Then they absorb his word vomit and will then scream about it regardless of doing the research to then form their own opinion for a real conversation. Stewart is just making sure his money keeps rolling in from the anti gun groups. That way he can continue to pay his gun toting bodyguards to keep himself "safe" from the real issue in America. The mental health issue.

ANY LAW IS A FREEDOM THAT IS OR CAN BE TAKEN AWAY! Regardless of which side passes it! If a law passed giving the right to keep breathing, now it can be debated in court!
