    Instead of the thermo couplers and RPM sensor, a current clamp would be nice.

      Another review by," Rustbelt Mechanic" shows even plugging a Snap-on Current clamp into this unit was a waste of time. Better try before buying.

    • @JD730

      @@daveh9907 Always heard that current clamps are useless with DMM and really only good on a scope because a meter is too slow to really utilize a current clamp.

    I know this video is now 3 years old but I recently purchased one and I have to say it’s an awesome DMM. I too am a avid scope user but I believe that the DMM/DVOM are still great tools for working on “chassis” electrical . The leads could be better but they’re not the worse I’ve seen lol . Great video

    The app is slot better than what it was when the meter first came out. Haven’t had any app issues on my IPhone. Only thing I’d have liked to seen put into the meter is Isolation testing for hybrids....and like you said, better leads. Great video man.

    I also have this meter. So far I love it. I have no issues with the app on my phone or my iPad. I love the built in thermometer I use that a bunch. Expect check your adaptor that plugs into your meter. I'll put money on it that it is loose in the banana Jack's. Also the distant on the Bluetooth is amazing. It's great for working on rvs. One. Thing I don't like is there meter shuts off after a few minutes. I need it to stay on longer

I've been a mechanic for about 5 years and am just now working my way into electric work. I'm wondering if I should take advantage of the student discount for this meter now while I still can even though I'm not quite at the point where this hood of a meter is necessary.

    Maybe I’m old but I still think one of the first tools a young buck needs to master is a basic DVOM. Years ago you had two choices. 1. An expensive Fluke or 2. A cheap piece of Chinese junk. Not so anymore. There are decent and reliable meters for less than $200 today. I’ll always have a decent DVOM.

    I brought the metre you used to use on your recommendation and I agree that it can be hard to see under a dash but as a young technician I can’t justify spending £500+ on a metre until I find that the one I’m using isn’t working for my needs I’d rather spend £500 on a Milwaukee impact gun that will increase my productivity or a specialist tool for a job I do regularly but it does look like a neat bit of kit

    I hope it lasts for you. The price of this Snap-On DVOM is actually not that bad (weird, ain't it). The price I paid the MAC guy for my Fluke 88 was about the same ($700). It came complete with the current clamp, case and some really good leads. The Fluke has been absolutely bullet proof for the two years I've owned it, which is what I expect from a Fluke, but it doesn't have the nice display and Blu-tooth stuff that the Snap-On has. I'm not sure what I would buy today. The Bosch FSA 50 has a big screen, it does wireless, and it can do the higher voltages and current draws you will need if you work on highbred cars. I suppose it all comes down to what works and what will last, which is why I count on reviews like these.
    My track record with the durability of Snap-On electronics goes from really good to absolutely terrible. Scanners like my Solus, Modis, and "Brick" (MT2500) never gave me any trouble and served me well until I traded them in. But, I got HOSED on my MT3000A lab scope (w/4-gas), MT3750 battery tester, and my "Computerized" wheel balancer (I don't remember the model number because it didn't last very long). Those three EXPENSIVE pieces of equipment didn't last long enough to cover the payment period... they were JUNK, plain and simple. I suppose that is why I'm more inclined to buy from the specialist companies today... like Fluke for volt meters. I like Hunter and Ranger for anything tires, for battery and charging system testing I've gone to Bosch (BAT151), and I've got a Pico scope (like everyone else seems to have). I also think that with the new Bosch and Autel scan tools showing better performance, people will be less likely to look at Snap On for scan tools in the future.

    • @jedidiah4004
      @jedidiah4004 5 лет назад

      What was the failure mode on your battery tester? Myself and another guy have the EECS150 and they have been bullet proof

    • @leoashrae4199
      @leoashrae4199 5 лет назад

      @@jedidiah4004 I don't know anything about your EECS150. I never owned one and, judging by the catalog description, it isn't remotely anything like my MT3750 that gave me so much trouble. The problems I had with the MT3750 started the first year I owned it...the AMP display started showing only the last digit. The Snap On "equipment guy" (who was a real flaming Axx Hxxx) took it to the "depot" in Harrisburg for repair. I didn't get it back for TWO MONTHS! Then, when I did get it back, I couldn't "zero" it. Bottom line: It was one problem after another for almost three years until finally all the annunciator lights came on at once and the "volts" display would go to (and stay at) 8888 as soon as you turned it on. That was when the "depot" told me that it needed a new "board", but replacement boards where no longer available. I was ripped-off, plane and simple. Snap On doesn't carry parts for any of their proprietary electronic and air tools for very long. And, it seems that parts for the tools that had serious quality/design issues from the get-go always run out the day after Snap On discontinues it. Just remember: If you buy one of Snappy's proprietary tools, they are the only game in town when you need parts or service, and their equipment warranties are NOTHING like the lifetime, no questions asked, warranty on their hand tools. Usually it's only one year. Be careful...
