    The Snap-On multimeter is great! You can use it to check the drain on your wallet.

    Just picked one of these up for work as a diesel mechanic on class C motorhomes and I am the shops electrical diagnostician. This tool is very ry handy when you need to hook up at the back of the coaches and activate a switch inside and can see real time data from outside. You could in theory use a spool of jumper leads but that’s time consuming stringing all that wire out lol

    The Bluetooth will be the selling point for me. I work on aerial equipment I often have to take readings from the ground control while being in the basket. I have to be real creative to it. It should have a rubber protective case as option. Same with the multi-probe I would use it more if it had more drop or damage protection.

  • @PoptartFps
    @PoptartFps 4 года назад +1

    All the guys saying its not needed. Well im a heavy equipment mechanic and I work on a lot off boom lifts. Its nice to be able to go 60 feet in air and leave the meter on the ground work the controls and see my voltage on my phone 60ft away. Great way to test stuff. But 50% agree with being just a pretty meter that snaps the wallet.

    Along with a protective casing, a protector for the screen would be awesome, too. I would love a carbon fiber case with protective film

  • @Jason607

    I hear these comments about their $50 meter doing just as good. Sticker shock always gets me on the SO truck no doubt and I hate spending all this money on tools I could get cheaper but I hate it even more when I save a buck and end up with something that just doesn’t do it right. These guys who clean their cheap meters are just fine, I doubt they have been in the situations I have been in. Just picked up this meter. It will be fine. Had a Mac one that was great except the leads keep the pulling out of the meter. The fluke is a great meter too by the way.

  • @RustyRench

    Just bought one brand new for $600 from my Mac guy of all people, some older guy had it and was to advanced for him, still had the plastic over the screen. Thing is sick I love that multimeter

    $700 is far too expensive for a basic pretty looking meter. For that price you can get a decent scope

    • @Iwhishihadyoutube
      @Iwhishihadyoutube 6 лет назад +9

      Can you explain what decent scope you are getting for $700?

    • @Jpilgrim30
      @Jpilgrim30 6 лет назад +12

      Blake Pankratz You can get a brand new 2 channel pico 4225 for ~$700. You can get the Autel 4 channel that you can use with a laptop for $500 or even a little less. There are other options as well. You can get a Micsig 4 channel tablet oscilloscope for $400-500 on Amazon that has great reviews from people that use it for automotive purposes. I picked up a otc 3840 when I was browsing through the pawn shop one day last year for $200. I already have a pico 4425 but it was too good of a deal to pass up. It looked brand new with the plastic still on the screen and all the leads still in the packages. If you can’t find a decent scope for $700 then you’re not looking hard enough.

    • @Iwhishihadyoutube
      @Iwhishihadyoutube 6 лет назад +5

      @@Jpilgrim30 Thanks for the info, I have not heard of the Micsig, and did not know Autel made one. I will look into those options. The reason I'm even on this video is because I was hoping they had added a scope feature to this multimeter.

    • @user-ec5oe7qy4v
      @user-ec5oe7qy4v 6 лет назад

      The pico scope is the way to go if you don't need a handheld scope. If you do want a handheld scope, get a vantage pro. You can find them used for around $600-700. You can't go wrong with either option. I'm not a fan of the autel scope but love their scan tool. Happy wrenching

  • @fatsheep08
    @fatsheep08 3 года назад +4

    I think the Bluetooth would be useful for checking bad wires hooking the meter on one side then using the phone to look at the meter while shaking the wires looking at the ohms but I think it would be nice also to see a hanger for the meter to hang in a position at eye level instead of on the floor while in different positions were it might be difficult to view

  • @Diagnosedan
    @Diagnosedan 6 лет назад +3

    The tool can be used for Electric vehicles, but it looks like it doesn't do an insulation test. So you'll have to buy another meter to do that. And who uses a rpm pick-up? A good Amp-clamp would have been more useful.

    • @RustbeltMechanic
      @RustbeltMechanic  6 лет назад

      I HIGHLY agree with this. I tried to use the low powered amp clamp and they’ll have to come out with one tuned to this meter

    • @TheKylefiebiger
      @TheKylefiebiger 5 лет назад

      very true. I just bought this today for the blue tooth feature alone. i was working on the combine last night and i need to measure the voltage going to a actuator that only runs for 3 seconds and that is impossible to do when the switch is in the cab and the actuator is on the back of the combine. When i was checking it out on the truck i was under the impression it was a amp pick up and while watching this video i learned other wise and i am slightly upset about that to say the least. But there is always tomorrow to spend another 700 dollars lol.

    I’m clutching my Fluke 115 like a Bond villain does their cat! (Precious!)
    This looks like a really nifty meter tho, I have a feeling tho that you would have to get a separate phone just for it so that you don’t leave your personal phone behind someplace when taking measurements remotely when utilizing Bluetooth.
    I’m sure they are going to include a printout device, because knowing where I work, they want a Midtronics printout for every single charging and starting system test we do on PMs, unless it has a USB output to connect to a printer, but I guess that’s why you can email it all to yourself.

    I think for the price its a great DVOM. Im with you on the amp clamps. Snap on does offer a few options on amp clamps but the prices are a little out of line for an accessory. I was really looking forward to being able to change the function from the app. I think that is the biggest downside to it. It is VERY fast reacting, and that is the biggest plus in my opinion. All in all I am very happy with my purchase so far.

Would be so much easier to claim warranty on slide out motors leveling jacks hydraulic pumps and air conditioning units to just graph the operation record it and email it off to the mfg to show I’m not bs ing them on the readings. Only thing I didn’t catch was if it has a clamp amp tool for reading amp draws. Would really like to see it in action on a amp draw if so. Nice review bud.

      @@GCraigmile I like the form factor but the Snap On tax is a bit much for what it does. I think most that would buy have EC accounts and just add them to that. I've got a Solus Ultra but sold my thermal imager and borescope. Better options for less money. I've got a Fluke 87 and a 199c but the remote phone app is appealing. I'd be better off selling the 87 and getting a 1587 or the like.

    It’s a good$150 meter for $700. The best DMM ever was the Fluke 867B GMM. Nothing like it on the market today.

    Is the fuse easy to access and what type does it use?

    • @RustbeltMechanic
      @RustbeltMechanic  6 лет назад +1

      Yes it’s not like the older B-D class meters where you had to pry half the meter part. Four screws on the back panel and the two fuses are easily accessible, not exactly sure about the fuse numbers.

    Instead of being used for automotive work, it should be safely preserved in the Museum Of Ridiculousness. Any mechanic good enough at what they do to afford this, won't need to spend $50, let alone $700. All it really is, is a thief magnet. Considering this, it should have a built in GPS locator with a phone app, and also a proximity sensor and locator fob so you can hunt down where it went. Even then, don't forget to invest in theft insurance and while you're at it, get your head examined if you feel $700 for a meter is a wise purchase.
    I just know there is some Snap-On shill out there that will tell us this lets him work faster. Not really, once you factor in having to get it out of your wall safe because you can't leave it lying around unattended, lol.

    • @peterjones6945
      @peterjones6945 5 лет назад +2

      Too true, a $4.99 multi-meter will often do just as well for majority of tasks and you have no problem leaving it laying around. Personally I prefer separate meters, an all in one goes missing and your screwed (although I guess not many mechanics need capacitor testers or ultrasonic thickness testers?)

    • @andybub45
      @andybub45 3 года назад

      @@peterjones6945 lol this is funny. If you are a DIYer, sure, a Harbor Freight multimeter will work fine. But, they are inaccurate. If you are a professional technician, inaccurate measurements will be very harmful to you. In addition, if you work on Hybrid vehicles, you need a Hybrid rated multimeter that you can trust your life with. If you try to use your Harbor Freight meter on a hybrid system, you will be shocked and possibly die.

    • @andybub45

      Techs that want to diagnose cars properly need a good multimeter. It can be Fluke, Klein, or Snap On. The only thing that sets Snap On ahead is it’s student discount. Snap On sells a similar meter that is around $400. With a discount, it goes to around $200. That is way cheaper than the Fluke 87 or 88.

  • @LoneWolfZ
    @LoneWolfZ 5 лет назад +2

    why would an automotive meter not come with an inductive high current clamp? I'm sure they are willing to sell you one for another $300-500, but that isn't the point. For the people bitching about price, this is Snap-On. You pay for that guy to come to your shop each week. Just the way it is. Also, if you think you can find a $50 true RMS DMM , go ahead on that! I paid $600 for a Fluke 88 on the Matco truck years ago. $700 isn't a bad price all things considered. If it came with a current clamp, it would be a pretty damn good value, assuming the specs are good.
