I would absolutely LOVE to see a season 7 of the show, but something just tells me it wouldn't work. Presumably, it would need to take place at a point in time where all the children are older (George has grown up, Sybbie and Marigold, too), which would mean starting over from the beginning again. But idk, I do think there are so many potentially awesome storylines between Matthew and Mary that really weren't explored that much while he was alive. I think we all would love to see more of that era of Downton. Nothing against the later seasons, but the earlier ones had some magic to them that kinda faded away in the later seasons. Nevertheless, I'd love to see more of the season 3 era stuff.
I love how the Dowager ALWAYS turns to Carson to back her up when she disapproves of something, and he ALWAYS does. Like the cocktails: "They look a bit exciting for so early in the evening. Don't you agree, Carson?" "Better avoided, Milady." "Yes... I think so."
Phyllis Logan, she's brilliant. Every time I see an interview of her in real life, I'm amazed by how she doesn't resemble "Mrs. Hughes" at all. It's not the hair and make-up -- it's her ability as an actor which turns her into Mrs. Hughes. All the actors are great. I am such a fan, such quality acting, cannot think of another television program which comes close.
Buckets! No kidding. Watching all episodes from start to finish and thoroughly enjoying it without the long gaps .......but I think I cry more easily now that I am older. Love the wonderful characters and caustic lines!
3:22 I love this moment so much. Imagine not only meeting your hero, but working with them on a daily basis! Penelope seems so genuine in her praise, and I'm sure it does mean a lot to Maggie as I imagine they both respect each other and their craft greatly.
I thought all of the actors did a great job. Mrs Patmore and Thomas were my favorite characters but as far as acting Penelope was the one actress that I could not separate her character from her true self. Her character acting was so on point that I could not imagine that she lives in the present and has a current life. I could not imagine her being anywhere except Downton. It’s a very weird feeling. Maybe in a past life she was.......?
I've come to Downton late, and slowly worked my way through 6 Series and fell in love with the complex characters, the acting, the whole thing. What I love about this is all the actors seem so genuinely humble and collaborative and understanding of their role in such a brilliant piece. Great to watch this. :)
Nothing like British Period Dramas. We lived in the UK during the 70's and I remember watching Upstairs Downstairs with my parents, that's when I got hooked.
That’s so interesting to hear! I’m currently rewatching all of it! I mean, with a name like mine, I obviously love it. 😹 It’s much needed during this time, along with humor!
We, in Upland, California, love Downton Abbey. Our family and friends are so incredibly thankful for the creation of this wonderful, multi-faceted gem of a series.
I do wish Dr. Clarkson had a romance. He really cared for Isobel, but it was not to be. He also took a lot of flack from Robert and Violet. Good ole Dr. Clarkson.
They were such tragic events, with the death of Sybil all of the cast members were stunned by the intensity of this scene and its effect on them. I too felt so sad when Matthew, in his moment of pure happiness, had the accident which he did.
@@WondrousEarth The death of Sybil is one of the most well-acted death scenes I've ever seen. It was raw and not overdone, I think helped by the lack of any dramatic soundtrack. You just felt all the air get sucked out of the room. Elizabeth McGovern and Allen Leech did an amazing job.
@@YTUse601 it also looked like a real death scene. When William died his eyes were closed and his mouth was closed. I've been a nurse for almost 30 years now. I've seen a lot of people die. They usually have their eyes at least partly open, or one eye open and one mostly shut, and their mouth falls open because their muscles relax. Sybil looked like a woman having a post partum convulsion, and she was pale and dusky after she died, her mouth was open and her eyes didn't close. She really looked like she had died.
Everything about the Downton Abbey series; music, acting, production and direction is amazing, breathtaking, amusing and really quite unique. All characters perfectly acted by a brilliant cast. Thank you.
When I first heard of it, I didn't really care. I heard Maggie Smith was there and that it had won a bunch of awards and I still didn't care, but now I'm completely in love with it! I especially love the 3 Crawley sisters, Thomas and Daisy!
It’s 2024 and I’ve only just started watching this. It’s fabulous, I’m on season 2 at the end, looking forward to watching every season! The plot twists are great too
I love the fashion of this time. Yes- there was the great catastrophy of the 20 century; but it was also the time of the sufraggettes and the working women. Many invention makes the life easier, beginning with the telephone and electricity.
Besides the upstairs cast, young Daisy - Sophie, is a terrific little actress. She is really very good. All the actors are so good. I fell in love with Mr Bates voice. And fell for Mathew Crawley. A gorgeous gentleman.
Grazie, Gabriella, that is so good to hear!! I agree that the people playing the parts get along very well, and as you, I admire Maggie Smith. She has such a good sense of humor and is the one character in Downton who consistently says something witty, and due to her position in the family she can 'get away with it' :)) I wonder if this is one reason she was selected because of her gift with humor? *.* Tim :)
I love the character of Thomas Barrow! It was so well written & acted! Remarkable performance. We were angry with Barrow, we wanted to slap & shake him and then to embrace and love him forever 💕💕Thank you ❤️
I enjoyed the comment about midway through. It was something to the affect the actors of the downstairs staff are to treat the upstairs as a soap opera.
This is right about Downton Abbey, Diane, as it does show the human side of all characters. I like that Hugh Bonneville, who is lord, says that there is a mutual respect between the owners and the servants, that one could not really live without the other in the society of that time.
Interesting how die-hard stage actors rarely allow themselves to be interviewed in costume. Don't think I've ever seen Maggie Smith interviewed in costume.
Why is Siobhan so naughty though 🤣 She's like a big kid and i bloody LOVE her for it! 😍 She's literally the polar opposite to O'Brien which only shows how incredible her talent is! I love Downt9n and i love behind the scenes things so this was incredible to watch xxx
Man, Lighting is so important. 1:14 it looked like it was day, but you zoom out and its 'night' but you gotta light it so the camera can pick them up and still look like night. HECK. I shouldve gone to film school
Me too :) He's my favorite. S1 hate completely his guts but he's so damn hot. But season 2 and 3 you see glimpse of his humanity finally...awwww...my heart melt everytime now. He is still arrogant but yet sweetness in him. Rob is amazing. Totally different from Thomas. Love this guy to pièces!

Maggie Smith looks so much younger when not in her character's outfits and makeup

Maybe THAT'S the real reason she never wanted to watch herself:-)

So true, the death of Lady Sybil moved everyone in the cast, as if they were really experiencing it. Many exceptional moments.
