Wow! Great info Monte. I thought San Miguel or Playa might have the largest black ex-Pat communities. Those are the ones I hear the most about. Maybe the Merida crowd is just trying to keep the best kept secret quiet. 🤫😆
There are a lot of "travelers" in Playa Del Carmen. Many with families move to Merida after experiencing Mexican Vegas. Mexico City has a large community but Merida I believe is the largest Black Expat Community in Mexico.
My husband and I live in Merida currently. We are a mixed couple. It has been a great experience. The people are amazing and would highly recommend this place for a gentler, friendlier energy than the States. My best.
They are making more space everyday. There is lots of jungle between the city and the beach and much more south of the city. They are building highrise buildings to accomodate all the new people from all over Mexico.
Love hearing about the growth in Merida! We were just connected with a woman interested in moving to Merida with her elementary school aged son. We'd love to put them in contact with you and other families. She might already be in the FB group. If you're open to it. Let me know the best way to establish that connection.
My S Korean side of family migrated in Merida hundreds of years ago. Its beautiful there. My Grandmother was the secretary of the Korean Museum there. Also, many Mayans had migrated to Georgia when everyone thought they had disappeared lol I bet many Georgians may have Mayan ancestry and are not aware.
Nope, most Mayans died when the Spaniards arrived in Mexico. The Mayan civilisation expanded from the peninsula of Yucatan to parts of Centro America. When they were hit by all illnesses brought from Spain (killing millions of them), those who survived retrieved to the peninsula of Yucatan. Many of their cities were just abandoned in Centro America. Many in Centro America think that they are Mayans which is not true as they all got back to Mexico. And it is true since the southern state of Chiapas, which has the most extensive border with Guatemala, has at least 40 other civilizations/tribes registered and the Mayans are not part of those registered tribes in Chiapas so if the Mayans are not present in Chiapas how can they be present in Centro America? To this day, the Mayans have put many statements on the subject repeating that the Centro America inhabitants belong to other tribes or mixes of tribes. Also, there is more diversity of people in Centro America than the Peninsula of Yucatan that is because Spain decided the makeup of the Mexican population. After the Independence of Centro American, a lot of foreign people arrived from Africa, Germany, Italy, Portugal and so on. If you go to any country in Centro America you will find people with different physical characteristics. Last point, we can NOT very that some Mayans have or haven't moved to other parts of the Continent like the US, there might be cases but what can be said is that these cases are very few as Mayans are NOT known to leave the peninsula of Yucatan. The only fact that is for sure is that they are present in Mexico City as they are elected to both chambers of congress in Mexico City of representing different peninsular states and naturally they are other Mayans that have some businesses in Mexico City, there are also very good and well known actors, musicians and tv personalities from Yucatan that live in Mexico City but all have strong connection with the Yucatan peninsula. So that statement of "many Georgians may have Mayan ancestry and are not aware" is just not accurate at all.
There are lots of single retirees here. The 50 plus group was really stared for the retirees here. The walk and skate meetup on Saturdays has a lot of retirees walking each week. I have a few more years before I can join their Fun.
I just need to know if the food is healthy!! This food here in America is killing me and my family! We are looking to move out the country and my gut keeps saying Mexico, Belize, and or Brazil but its my gut. In research I keep hearing and seeing Merida. Friends from Mexico say its beautiful but my husband is afraid of the Cartel.
The food is way healthier and feather than in the states. As far as the cartel is concerned they are not the boogie man. I was like your husband before I actually visited real Mexico. I’ve had zero known contact with cartel in all the years I’ve been coming to Mexico which is close to 20 years now. Merida is safer than every major city in the USA. I bet you’ve never heard that before on the nightly news. Tell him to come and visit. I would not have many wife and 7 year old daughter here if we were in any type of danger. The fact is I’m safer here than Atlanta.

Thank you so much for this video! I've been here in Merida for almost 2 weeks and looking for such a place as parque de la aleman. Great video!
My pleasure. Parque Alemán 8:00 am on Saturdays is the time for the walk and skate. Parque Alemán ID one of the best parks in the city.
Great information as always! The thriving black community definitely attracted me to Merida.

Hey I’m trying to come and visit the Mexico City area and looking for black expats to give me some advice on the area and meet up
We are in Merida. I would look for Facebook groups around black expats in Mexico City.
I found one I think black expats Mexico. I was looking specifically Mexico City@@Mexitplans
Are their any black expat discord or telegrams?
Not to my knowledge but there are WhatsApp groups for Moms/Dads and etc.
