What a lovely couple, as a France native living in Long Island New York, i spend my time day dreaming about a new start elsewhere for peaceful basic survival! I thank you very much ❤ subscribed and sending you both much love 😊
Hey MonaLisa, thank you for watching and for the sub! I don't think that I would prefer NY to most cities in France. Are you planning an exit from the US and are you still a French citizen? If so, come on over to Portugal, the living is easy 🌊.
@@OurBlackUtopia hi there, thanks for replying, yes I have dual citizenship (born and raised in France) but France is being Americanized at full speed! Hence why I want to go elsewhere and feel brand new secondhand 😀! I am now going to research Portugal among others! Thanks again ❤️

I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. I went to the Doctor's office yesterday and spent Approximately $10.50 for my appointment and my two blood pressure medications. I also walked right in without an appointment. We will be moving back to Bali soon so I'll give you an update.
Wow, unfortunately the prices here in Lisbon are not that good. They're much better than the US but... Yes, please do keep us updated. We only have a few acquaintances that we can call upon for Asia experiences.
Last January, I visited an emergency clinic for a urine test. I spent 4hours there with a IV for fluids. The DR said she would not charge me for the IV, BUT my bill came in the mail $1300 even though I paid $375 for the visit....
Im not understanding some of the anger/disdain for this list of places and the categories used. These are merely suggestions. People will still need to do their own research based on their own requirements. Why can't we just appreciate the research and effort that was put in the video?

New flash as a slave descendent I can tell you nothing beats living in the Gambia..... paying 2,000 American dollars for the entire year.(up front) or $240 American dollars a month. Now If you pay for the year and let your checks still keep being directly deposited you'll have a sizable amount at the end of the year and some ot it can be transferred into your savings.... leaving just enough for utilities and food in your checking account...okay. . At the end of the year most of the money from your checks is there for you to pay for the next year. The one bed room apartment has a wonderful view and it's a beautiful apartment. There are 4 bedroom houses for an average of 5 thousand American dollars for the year as well. You can still travel the world, but your ancestors need you to return to your rightful homeland and its not America. None the less the video was nice..... Thank you. I'm living my best senior life in Africa ...one of the things is the friendly people, very sweet fresh fruits and the beaches with locals selling hot fresh seafood and chips(call French fries by them) under gazebos to take a break from the sun while hearing the laughter of families enjoying a safe day at the beach, without the fear of being shot. This is what I call living my best life.

Lee, Be careful when buying real estate abroad. Every country has VERY DIFFERENT laws. We suggest that people move there, learn the lay of the land, the market factors, and get a good attorney. We've seen some horror stories, that were perfectly legal but the American assumed that the new country had the same laws and it cost them $10s of $1000s of dollars. You don't want to go out like that.😎
I've been there before and I had an extremely hard time breathing because of my lungs. Although I really liked it there, they do not or did not have any law for emission control on vehicles so that would be a no, absolutely no for me.
Glad you are mentioning Africa. Outside of Accra, (the city) housing is very inexpensive as low as $200 per month. Just return from Kigali, Rwanda a beautiful country and yes cost of living is very low. Climate is beautiful and people are welcoming. Easy place to live and prosper, starting a business is very easy little to no red tape. Getting ready to retire in Kigali.
Hello Sarfina, thank you so much for watching. Kigali has come up on our lists before, but more recently we've heard of some of our friends and acquaintances mentioning a move there, which is why it made the list this time. We hope you find your peace and joy there!!! 😎
You might want to check out Peru My thoughts after seeing this is South America. But definitely not Medilin Columbia. Here in MIRAFLORES Peru I have a 3 bedroom.. 4 bathrooms.. balcony outside my living room .. balcony outside my bedroom.. on my second floor I have a rap around balcony big enough for a cookout. On the top floor.. doorman downstairs with underground parking. All for $950 monthly.. maintenance.. electrical.. cable.. etc is a total of $300 more monthly. So Peru was my choice and the security is great in the District of Lima. Pollution is C plus -B . The food.. people.. culture you can’t beat. You just have to learn the language.
Óla Chuck, interesting that you should mention Peru. My Spanish tutor and I were talking about the number of Venezuelans escaping to Peru and Chile. How long have you lived in Peru?

@@OurBlackUtopia I appreciate that, but what I’m getting at is I’ve had a whole pension pulled out from under me with these fake bankruptcies. Not only that, I’m paying attention to these older folks and the words they are using like fixed income. I’m sure they didn’t retire with the intention of their outcome outpacing their income. This stuff is real out here. They had it all planned out at as well.😬 I’m sure.
😉 Hey Herb, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. We like SA and have family there. We've also been there for an extended sabbatical. I don't think it made this list because of the price point, but also, my family complains about the rolling black outs and water outages. 🫢
Ahhh, my sister obviously has not figured this out though I know she has a generator. But there were still issues and we had to schedule our video calls around the black outs. Thanks for the info!
Hey Indhira, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. We have found this to be true in the US. We have also found tension between Black folks and Latinos in Cali. However, we have permanent residency in Mexico and have found the Mexican people to be warm and welcoming. Visit and you may be surprised. 😮
I currently live in LA and I have friends here from both Columbia and Ecuador. The cities that you called out. Both friends ran for their lives to get her. My beautiful, well educated Ecuadorian sister lived here under the radar with on an expired visa. I witnessed her mom on the phone crying and telling her not to come back. She had a very plush office job in Ecuador, nice car. Her brothers at least 4 had to drive her to work and home. She had to live with her family even though she could afford to live alone. The crime is so bad in Ecuador and especially for women. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾Black, brown, white, Asian…Women are not safe there!!!
Hey Delene, thank you for watching. We've interviewed African American Expats that now live in both Cuenca and Medellin who absolutely love it, feel safe, and have no plans on moving back to the US. I'm wondering if, as Americans, they're in a bit of a privileged bubble? Now, I have heard of Americans getting 'mickied' in da clubs in Medellin and then having their stuff stolen. But that happens in LA too, (born and raised in LA) but instead of paying $3.00 for the drink you've paid $15.00. However, the majority of our audience is of a certain age and is not hanging out in the clubs. Happy hunting.
Wow just WOW, this is news to me. When I was learning Spanish, I did a month emersion program in Ecuador, except for the 'pick-pocketers' (lol, I didn't have much to steal, but a fellow classmates passport etc. got stolen) I felt safe there... wow!! The key is, research though... 💯
How many times in this video did we say, visit and see if you like it. 🤷🏽♀️ Thanks @LGnLA for this info - we were looking at an emersion program there as well...then we decided to move to the other side of the world. 🤪
So true, we have a friend who wife is trapped inside and says she has seen many people beheaded in Ecuador. Very very sad! Also Rwanda is clean, very green and beautiful but there is a unkind truth that all is not yet resolved and some what unclear and uncomfortable. Love the president but not sure after he goes into retirement will the political peace last. The tension between the two major groups is still in question? Many Rwandas coming back home like in South Africa to find their grand fathers land now gone!
Hi, guys. Thanks for the information. I plan on moving to the Philippines in 2025. The main reason that I picked the Philippines is because they speak English and I can live there for under 1,300.

Split, Croatia is one of the best kept secrets in Europe. I had no idea it would be so beautiful! It's amazing, laid back and very accepting. I was there with a group that was 50/50 African American and we all felt safe and comfortable moving around the city. I rode the bus alone once and a nice elderly lady, a good barometer of the city's level of hospitality, came up and started small talk with me like I was a native. Don't get me wrong, the black members of the group were "noticed" more than the others. Once a group of teen ages, amazed at seeing black folk, asked if I was Kobe Bryant. (I'm 5' 8 so nah) Another time, a young brother in our group got separated from us while walking near the waterfront. We found him with a group of young locals surrounding him asking for an autograph. So me and a white member of our group put on our shades and walked up to him and said, "it's time to go, sir", as if we were his body guards. The crowd around him went nuts! LMAO! When we got him aside, I said, "bro... you must've told those kids you were Usher". Overall, it was a great experience!

What a great story! I can visualize the whole thing! I went to Brazil with my husband & we had a similar experience- they kept cheering when we came out of our hotel- “Eddie Murphy! Eddie Murphy!!” Because my husband is a darker skin man & they swore he was Eddie Murphy! It was hysterical! The young girls would run up to me & hug me saying “Pretty! Pretty!” Although I know they wanted cash- which I did give them, I still felt like a runway model!! Amazing experience traveling this world! God Blezz you!!
Hello Amaru, thank you so much for watching and for your question. Healthcare quality is a filter but costs are not included in the database that we use. You will find, that for most countries healthcare is a right, not a privilege and all of these countries have healthcare quality of above average to excellent or as good as or better than the US; usually at a lower cost. Just Google the country you're interested in and see if they have universal healthcare, as Portugal does. Use the database listed below to see the quality. As an Afroeuropean I have traveled to different countries around the globe and the best location I really enjoyed the most and felt really welcome and homely was the Caribbean. Here are the list of countries I visited. Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and Panama. The two countries I will recommend for all my African American brothers and where I'll most likely retire myself are The DR or Panama. I enjoyed Panama immensely. For me it was a perfect dream location for retirement. The country had everything I needed and lots of Afropanamanians to relate with. That's my dream destination followed by The DR. If you want to move to a place that will make you happy as a Black person based on my own experience and meeting other genuine blacks folks to interact with then these are my top choices. Secondly Panama has a decent amount of development including a decent and affordable universal healthcare system.
Hey Robert, your videos are gorgeous. We interviewed an African American who relocated with her husband to the DR and we're going to be interviewing an immigrant to Panama soon. Panama especially garners a lot of comments. Personally, I cannot do humid heat - that's a no-go for me. 🤣. I also don't do bugs. 😳 I know it's silly but folks need to know what is a need and what is a want. The lack of humid heat is definitely on my 'needs list'. 😂
I turn 50 this year an my goal is to retire at 55 I have started my purchase of a house in Jamaica, for I'm from KEY WEST and love the heat but not the culture, start the dream and walk in it, I have never been so much more happier.

Hey Jesse, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Some black folks thought we were crazy for suggesting the countries that we did, and they didn't believe me when I tell them that we are everywhere. - we hope you're living your best life.
As black people, why do we find it necessary to live among other people that do not consider us as equal? it is stink in America, and is the fabric that blends America together. Is there a white country that black people can live and feel at peace? I fully understand that we are retiring below our means, which seem like a delight to most. However for me, I would rather live in peace among my own. People look like me and cops treating me as a person and not shoot first and ask questions later. I desire to live in a free society irrespective of cost of living.
Brasil and Colombia have very high black populations. They DON'T have the racial and discrimination problems like the US. This is based upon my personal experiences visiting numerous times over the last 10 years.
The cities in Portugal have a high black population and you don't have to worry about lethal racism. Though racism and anti-blackness are global...it doesn't have to be lethal. We've been living in Portugal nearly 9 months now and we have never felt more at peace...also, we blend.
Are you ready to retire in Africa? That's the only place you will fully fit if you are black. In fact as an American you will be shocked that nobody notices you unless you reach out to them and engage them. You will just be one of us.
I loved Medellin. I definitely thought about building a house there to use as my vacation home/Air BnB. It is cheap. Food is really cheap and the quality is amazingly fresh.

Thanks, nice to hear some good vibes for Croatia... Close (nephews wife) family friends from there. Yes, Portugal is a hot spot ... though from those who have been there the rents most have gone up since last I looked I was seeing apartments in outer city for $700-800 depending on size, upstairs, etc. Plus the Med is rated #12 UN Score which puts them very high... Ecuador is rated 25 for medical but that's still a good score since US is rated #47. And their Doctors are exceedingly good and train in Spain as they have a reciprocal agreement. lol...it's the Barbecue...they LOVE TEXAS Barbeque...lol... There is another city in Thailand you didn't mention that a sea shore place and I hear it's not too hot and sweaty as a house mates gone a couple of times. The name of the town starts with an R. Yeah, u do not bad mouth the the Monarchy. A lot of the time houses come with staff.

Ok, It appears that I'v spoken way too soon; You saved it for last. That as a good move. The price for housing sounds about right for this day and age. I was stationed at Karot, and Ubon Thailand back in 1973. I had a bungalow both times for about 50 a month with a patio. Of coarse that was then, and this is now. But, I did have a great time. Peace, my friends!
I've been to Thailand three times, China was not really black friendly, but that's my opinion. I've been to Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phichit. I'm building a house in Chiang Mai now.
@Our Black Utopia I'm going back in late October because that's when the house will be completed. I'm having pictures taken from start to finish. The lady who works in the village is taking the pictures. I'll retire in two years, and in October, I'll pay cash for the house. I don't want to rent, but I'll have a house free and clear, and it's in a secured gated village. I'll buy a vehicle and then enjoy life. I'm glad to have found you guys on RUclips. Take care 🙂
Guys, please consider DaNang, Vietnam it is up and coming and very accepting. I spent the whole of the pandemic there, 5 minutes from the beach as a seaside town with a very high quality of life. Also under $1500.

First place black folks pick are non black countries. Personally I’m tired of the racism and other unsavory stuff in America and I’m moving to Nigeria. Been many times.
@@zeeqq105 I'm with you! I find it so odd hearing Black amerikkkans saying they're sick of the racism, so they're moving to Spain, or the Philippines or Portugal. Asians are so horrified at the thought of their skin getting the slightest tan, they often live perpetually under an umbrella like Michael Jackson! Even Mexico, while not typically harsh in their treatment of Blacks, they have a history of not even acknowledging the presence or plight of Afro-Mexicans. Not even counting them n the Mexican census! Afro-Mexicans aren't hired in government jobs, aren't part of the mainstream Mexican business community. We, as a race, have this reluctance to cut our umbilical cord that tethers us to a caucasian, or at least non-Black teet. We have a looooong way to evolve!

You will find, that for most countries healthcare is a right, not a privilege and all of these countries have healthcare quality of above average to excellent or as good as or better than the US; usually at a lower cost. If you're seriously considering a move abroad, Google the country you're interested in and see if they have universal healthcare, as Portugal does. Use the database to see the quality. Join ex-pat/immigrant Facebook groups for those countries and see what folks are talking about. The database that we use can be found in our Ready to Retire Toolkit which you can get here: bit.ly/OBUresources.
Thank you very much for the detailed and thoughtful response. I'm in a few FaceBook groups while in the exploration process. So far Spain is of interest, but I think its a big world out there and I need to keep searching a bit longer. Thanks again! Best of luck with the channel! @@OurBlackUtopia
Thank you so much for how intentional and inclusive you were with this list. It would be awesome to have accessibility scores as well for those with mobility constraints. Your list gives an awesome start so folks can just search the accessibility part themselves with what you’ve already shared.
Great suggestion, Aziza - unfortunately the database that we use doesn't include those. 😢 - One thing that I've noticed is that in general, the older a city, the less accessibility. We have sidewalks here in Lisbon that are literally 18 inches wide. 😳 However, once you narrow down your search to 2-4 cities then you can do a google search for accessibility - also, we suggestion you join expat Facebook groups for those cities/countries and ask questions. Yeah, thank you Expat Marc for watching and for adding to the conversation with more information. We have some haters in the comments that don't believe you can have a great life in Medellin. 🤔
I found you guys earlier today and have been going through your videos about Lisbon because my Swedish adult daughter loves travelling there and told me that she knows I would love it too. Being a black European with West Indian heritage my home from home for many of my past vacations was Tobago but as crime escalated through the years to an intolerable level, I gave up my plan of retiring there, so Lisbon sounds like a great plan B! 👍🏾🙏🏾 🇬🇧🇸🇪🇹🇹
Hey Eugene, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Judging from the flags you grew up in Britain? We have friends here from Britain, whose parents are from the islands or countries in Africa - they prefer it here. This is the 6th safest country in the world, and while there's still pickpocketing and other petty crimes, violent crimes continue to decline. With that said, when will we see you in these Lisbon streets? 😆
Thank you so much 🤗 for watching and for your encouragement. Are you considering a move abroad? If so, here are some resources that might help: bit.ly/OBUresources
Good afternoon, My wife and I just left Thailand, and we absolutely loved it. We're trying to find a good place to settle down and call home, and we might have found it. I am a retiree and have lived as an expat in Cartagena Colombia for a year. Im in the process of moving to Medellin next week. 🇨🇴 Cartagena has wonderful beaches, it's very hot and more expensive than Medellin because it's a tourist trap.
Hey Expat author, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. My Spanish tutor warned me about Cartagena. 😉. Keep us posted on Medellin, we'd love to hear your story.
This is great, even though but I wasn't expecting this. I was thinking maybe you guys were going to suggest places such as Cleveland, Detroit and/or other domestic locations. Nice, but I can't leave without being able to visit with my grandchildren on a regular basis, they keep me young and very active.
Hey D, thank you so much for watching and for your encouragement. We stayed in Denver for the grandchildren. Then we looked around and they were all gone 🙄. Now we're encouraging all of them to get passports so they can come over for the summer. We want to expose them to life outside of the US - the kids over here remind me of how we got to be when we were young; a lot more carefree.
Thanks for this Video. I am a Black IT project manager and I am currently researching about Colombia. I currently live in Denver. I am considering the development of a tech start up and have found that there is a growing tech sector there and the affordability of a software development team there is potentially very viable. Your video has provided me with very informative info that Colombia may be a good place for a black tech start up that would be a good solution for black tech professionals. Its also interesting to note there is a large afro colombian population there as well
Hey Anthony, that sounds great and thank you for watching. Before moving ahead I would get a thorough understanding of what it means to "start a business" in Colombia, what are the fees and tax implications in the US and there. We've known folks who had to pay €100s per month in fees for a business that had no clients. 😳
Yes, Thailand is DEFINITELY on our list to move. I spent 30 days in Thailand. Now looking into Chiang Mai, Thailand. Phuket will be our weekend getaways...Thanks for the list.

This is super helpful. It’s a special financial educational especially for African Americans on fixed income like Social Security or Pension. You all are really empowering people ❤
I lived in Japan (SE Asia) for 3 years, it was amazing but expensive. While in Japan I also worked with Filipinos (they actually reported to me). I could definitely live in the Philippines too. Some of the most friendly people I've ever met.
I have an aversion to China. However, I have heard marvelous things about most of the other countries and certainly the two we mention in our video. Like Chilly Charles, we've also known folks who live(d) in Japan and absolutely loved it. Perhaps a visit at least?🤷🏽♀️

Hello Dr. Braxy. Leaving DC? I'm planning on heading to DC/MD area next year from the super crazy state of FL. We were military and the last time I lived in DC was in 2007, and before that, 1980's 'when' it was the 'Chocolate City.' Those were the days; however, I had noticed somewhat of a change in 2007, but it STILL has to beat FL's 'maniacy!'
@@OurBlackUtopia Oh I know; however, Floridian politics is so skewed and all in all awful, that even without income tax, I'm ready to leave here. Not used to 'this' particular brand of racism. Thank you for the advice 'though.
I don't blame you AT ALL. But you can establish residency there right before you are ready to leave the US, so that you can avoid what I am assuming are high taxes in MD/DC... You don't have to really "live" there again - check out what the requirements are. You might be able to just use someone else's address. There are other low/no tax states too - but they're all like FL for the most part...any surprise? 😉
Wow! Some of the comments here are interesting. Why get upset with this couple, they're just giving us ideas, up to us to research for more in depth details. BTW, Cigna International is the the health insurance many Americans have. Its accepted in many countries. Lets rely on our own reseach for the countries we're interested in. Also, Portugal has very stricked gun laws, unlike America....just sayin'.
Hey Deven, thank you so much for watching and for your encouragement. I lived in Split for a month! I loved it! The soccer team Hajduk calls themselves the “white boys” (because of their jerseys) but also use a Confederate flag. The flags are all over the place. So while I didn’t experience any racial incidents, microagressions abound. The play dumb - “that’s not what it means”- just didn’t fly with me.
Oooh, thank you Shari. This is the first we're hearing of this. The folks that we've spoken to who have spent significant time there did not relay this information.

I recently retired. Have been looking at Santa Marta, Colombia. Wanted to be close to the beach and near Cartagena. I've heard Medellin is nice just no beach.
Hey Chilly, thank you so much for watching. 😁 Pros and cons right? Beach means humidity and I've realized I definitely need to be near water. Thankfully, Lisbon is more like California as far as humidity is concerned. I haven't heard of Santa Marta, though my Spanish teacher used to live in Cartagena...she didn't like it. 🤷🏽♀️
@@OurBlackUtopia Yeah, Cartagena is too touristy. Santa Marta also sits on the Caribbean coast, just past Barranquilla home to the second largest Carnival after Rio. But I don't know, I'm still searching. I actually love Havana, if we could one day live there. But I plan on keeping my Atlanta house and looking for something abroad convenient to last minute and short travel times. Thanks for the video!
As Americans moving to another country, you need to be mindful of the other country's culture. They might not do things the way you are accustomed, but you just have to exercise patience and keep your disgust to yourself. For example, America is a fast paced country, everything is done by microwave while other countries are slower, therefore, be mindful and respectful of their hiccups...WATCH YOUR ATTITUDE!
Excellent point. I have traveled back and forth to Different parts of Africa over the past 25 years and have found a statement in the Qur’an that says, “Patient is a virtue” is so very true and necessary to understand when in other countries.
Hey Ocean Grey, you are absolutely correct! 🤣 If you want more hustle and grind there are probably countries in the northern part of Europe that may be closer to America 😆. We did a video called Don't Move to Lisbon If... where we talk about some of these things. ruclips.net/video/0srQ6fyhSPE/видео.html
I think it's better in some other countries as long as you can speak to them in their language and don't treat them like visitors in their own countries. That kind of an American problem.
I am a USA citizen and I do not use microwave because it talks out many nutrients. Some countries have much higher food standards then the USA, maybe not in all areas, but in some. Some countries food is seen as scared to feed the body. In the USA, there is much junk food and food with no nourishment that feeds the parasites in the body. Look closely at the different foreign cultures before you consider them backward, that usually helps gain enlightenment.
I've been back & forth to Panama 🇵🇦 and seriously considering making it home in the next 3yrs. I'm a Navy Vet, and work in Aviation Aerospace, so doing my homework and getting around is in my blood. I'm not a fan of Winter, nor hurricanes. The cost of living is beyond affordable, the medical accessibility and cost are top notch...depending how far or how close you prefer to be. Many expats have flocked there for a lot of the reasons that wore them out in the US...racism being in the top 10 reason.
Hey Monique, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Too true - this is definitely a favorite for Americans. Panama wasn't on our list because we didn't include N. Split is absolutely beautiful. Croatia in general is amazing. The Adriatic Sea is God’s playground. You should add Abruzzo Italy to the list. It’s is the Tuscany of the South. Cost is about $1300 per month. I’ll be purchasing a home in two years.
In order to retire in Italy you must show that you have an income of 30k per year as you will not be permitted to work. They don’t want expats taking jobs away from Italians.
Same with Portugal EXCEPT the threshold is a lot lower. For passive income, you have to prove that you're bringing in (or have saved) minimum wage - which is about $850/month + 50% for dependents. For remote workers the threshold is a lot higher.

My list is: Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Barcelona Spain, Tangiers Morocco and Jomtien Thailand 👍🏿💞
Awesome just take the time to visit them if you haven't yet.

Hey Rhonda thank you for the tip. We are indeed working on it. Is there any that make the top of your list?
Just discovered your channel from reading a May 2023 WSJ article. What a great find! I’m an early 60’s BF beginning to explore retirement locales.

Retirement? I’m a genXer. We don’t retire. We just work until we fall over for no reason one day.
Hah 🤣 I'm the first year of GenX . I believe that you've had enough hustle and grind to last a life time. Time to plan your exit off that hamster wheel and get on the Financial Independence bandwagon. Here are some resources that might help: bit.ly/OBUresources
Cape Town South Africa is the best place to retire your dollar will take you a long way beautiful city
😉 Hey Herb, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. We like SA and have family there. We've also been there for an extended sabbatical. I don't think it made this list because of the price point, but also, my family complains about the rolling black outs and water outages. 🫢
@@OurBlackUtopia there's ways of managing blackouts by getting an inverter
Ahhh, my sister obviously has not figured this out though I know she has a generator. But there were still issues and we had to schedule our video calls around the black outs. Thanks for the info!
Our daughter visited Phuket a couple years ago. She loved it!
It's definitely on our list.
It would be a good idea to include ease of getting a visa and frequency of renewal.
Yes, we are putting together that research now. But a quick Google search on your country of choice will give you what you need. Thanks for watching.
I don’t even use Asian business they are very discriminatory not spending or visiting
Please excuse the typos. I’m typing so fast and very concerned about these reviews
YAASSS, we're rooting for you! 🥳 Keep us posted, Jasmine, and thank you for watching!
I can appreciate this couple and the information that they bring to those who are looking to move abroad. I found it to be very interesting and helpful in that it gives people the opportunity to consider places that wouldn't have been on their list. However, it's very important that people research and get all of the necessary and needed information to assure them of making a good and sound decision.

😂😂😂❤️

Was hoping these were in the US. I am not trying to retire to another country.
For under $1500/month? 🤔
Hi, Linda thanks for watching we are planning in the near future to do one on the places in the US stay tuned😀
Should have a health care score… Seems as though that would be VERY important to retirees 🤷♂️
Yessss, you can do it! 👊🏾 Thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Keep us posted on your progress.

Exactly!
B A M Sis! Money isn’t always the issue. Living in PEACE is at the top of my list.
I loved Medellin. I definitely thought about building a house there to use as my vacation home/Air BnB. It is cheap. Food is really cheap and the quality is amazingly fresh.

The challenge is many places do not report crime in the same way or as often, so have to dig deep into researching a location outside of what's on the surface. We are planning to do mini-retirement trips to our locations of interest for 1 to 3 month stints.
You are so right. Every place that made our list is because we know folks who have lived there are live there periodically. Congrats on your mini-retirement.

My humble opinion on the 6 criteria being used
1.Costa rica
2.Uraguay
3.Botswana
4.Ethiopia
5.Spain
6.Portugal
7.Turkey
8.Indonesia
9.Malaysia
10.Georgia(country)
All the above countries have many cities to choose from
All are low/moderate in crime
Good weather
Good affordable hospitals
Low pollution
Non discriminatory to race
Lgbtq friendly(malaysia ,ethiopia exception)
Very cost effective
Thank you for the list! We have 2 other best cities list and for this one we decided to leave off N. America. However, we will keep those places in mind for our next Best Cities list. 😉
Botswana is one that Africans speak highly of.
As a military veteran South Korea is good and Panama a lot of military expats live in many places….that’s always a good sign if you chose to stay in a region where ex-military expats reside. Thanks for the information

Ok, It appears that I'v spoken way too soon; You saved it for last. That as a good move. The price for housing sounds about right for this day and age.

However, once you narrow down your search to 2-4 cities then you can do a google search for accessibility - also, we suggestion you join expat Facebook groups for those cities/countries and ask questions.

Good job very informative Love using the internet in such a wonderful And positive way💯

Yassss! So happy for you! 🥳 Are you planning to retire abroad, or are you going to just bop around the globe ✈️ 🌍
Good afternoon, My wife and I just left Thailand, and we absolutely loved it. We're trying to find a good place to settle down and call home, and we might have found it. Thanks for the update, we must plan more trips to some of these places on your list. I'm surprised that Mexico wasn't on your list. Anyway, I loved the video. We hope to meet up with you guys one of these days. Love traveling
Chiang Mai/Rai
Hua Hin
There's FB groups for BLK people
This is also a great place in Thailand?
Cool, I don't remember either of these cities coming up in the database with our criteria. Are they smaller?
I am looking at Belize 🇧🇿

Doreen, thank you for saying that. I work from home and would love to take my 13 yr old son and I to stay in Phucket for 2-3 weeks stay in Phucket to check it out. Please keep us posted on your progress.
I feel like most places are going to be racially discriminatory to some point. If we can live in the U.S. being "black" we can live anywhere. This list was great! Im a new subie, so glad i found this chanel.
Hey Candy, thank you so much for watching and for the sub, WELCOME to the OBU family. You are absolutely right, racism is everywhere as well as anti-blackness. However, is that racism lethal? 😉. We have found so much peace here in Lisbon. Are you planning a move abroad?
@@OurBlackUtopia yes I am. As well as my daughter , who is grown. I shared your channel with her also. I've been bindge watching your videos. Such a wealth of info. Keep them coming!

And when you have a black mayor Justin bibbs that does nonthing but cover up crimes against black committed by officials thats why I will not vote again its every man for themselves you have to protect yourselves

I was stationed there Busan (Pusan) back in the 90’s. Nice place, but very crowded. It was a growing city back then, so growth probably has made it more crowded. Camp Hialeah, Army base, was closed many years ago and is now a park.
Hey Andre, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. Indeed, every place is not for every body. Are seriously considering another move abroad? Hey Jimmy, thank you 🥰 and thank you so much for watching and for your encouragement. Are you planning a move abroad?
Going through your list, interesting places but my thoughts, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, all in Asia, and on the South American continent, I would also look at Nicaragua, other cities in Colombia which are cheaper than city mentioned....all in all, good info.
Hello Junior, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. You know, maybe we should do a complimentary video for seasoned expats; we've found when people make the move later in life they tend to want a soft landing...
This is super helpful. It’s a special financial educational especially for African Americans on fixed income like Social Security or Pension. You all are really empowering people ❤
We hope to if anything open minds to see more than what is in front of them. The know that there is more if they want it.
As a black woman, the thought of even visiting ANY Asian country makes me extremely uncomfortable. That's one continent I won't be going to.
@@OurBlackUtopia In Japan, I met and worked with some of the most friendly and understanding people I've met on earth.

just curious what makes you uncomfortable as a black woman going to Asia?

You didn't mention anything about Healthcare cost
Hey Lonnie, thank you so much for watching and for your question.
I seen a lot of racism on TikTok in Portugal not to mention they did the most during the slave trade 🤷🏾♂️
🤷🏽♀️ Everyone's experience is different. We love living in Portugal. You need to go yourself and see how you feel - that's the only thing that matters in the end.
Thank you both for the information! I have been to Busan South Korea to visit my son who was playing Basketball & teaching English. I had a great time, stared at a lot especially on the subway where 3 older women said my skin was beautiful .
Hey Chimaine, thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. 🥰 Did folks ever make you feel uncomfortable?
The last two Best Cities lists that we did, we only picked cities that already had a significant english-speaking Black community there. With this video, we decided to take the approach that "if you build it, they will come". As a friend of ours did in San Miguel de Allende.

Hello Dr. Braxy.
@Angela Smith, if you're considering a move abroad, you might want to maintain or move back to FL before moving abroad...no income tax...
Wish I had read this comment before I typed mine, as this was pretty much what I said. 🙂🙂🙂
Hey Deven, thank you so much for watching and for your encouragement. Folks are gettin' all up in their feelings. 😆 We left the US because we were tired of folks in the majority believing they had the right to tell us how to think, feel, speak, and act. If these folks leaving negative comments think were going to bow down, I gotta bridge in Brooklyn for sale. 🤣. Too old and too wise 🥰

Thanks. Portugal looks interesting. I am planning to visit to start experiencing it before making a decision. I’ll be retiring in 5 years
Hello S M thanks for watching. If there's a way to work remotely, I would try and make that move sooner. 🤗 Right now the VISA process for Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Greece is relatively easy and straightforward. However, just since 2020, we've seen them put more and more restrictions in place as they need less money infused into their economy. Here are some resources that may help you speed up the process. 😉bit.ly/OBUresources
I think the quality and cost of the health care should be considered as a part of the cost of retirement living abroad.

🤣
WOW, we will have to keep that in mind for our next Best cities. So happy for you in your upcoming purchase! Do you currently live in Italy?
I live in Los Angeles but spend my summers in Italy.
So happy I discovered this appealing and informative duo! Thank you so much for your insight
