Do people realize how stressful it is to live in the U.S? And yet as the most powerful country on earth like most of us claim the U.S is not even in top 10 countries where people live comfortably and happy.

It's not stressful if you are not spending what you do not have. I see people working 3 jobs because they want to have a big house or flashy cars instead of taking the bus or walking. The biggest issue is not incomes but lack of financial knowledge and living within one's means

I’m Canadian and have NEVER travelled anywhere in my life, but I knew in my heart I wanted to be somewhere by the ocean, warm climate, laid back life…by some Divine intervention, some property in Costa Rica fell into my lap and I’m getting ready to build a home there in the coming years…that is where I will be retiring and spending most of my time. Can’t wait!!!
I too am a cancer survivor (stage 3), and I truly believe the fresh air, nature, good healthy food is a natural cure for diseases… my body took a beating from radiation and chemo and I am still not myself. It will take a lot of time for the damage to recover…I’m thankful I’m cancer-free now, but I NEED to be in Costa Rica, for my health’s sake.

CR is not cheap. I just spent 1-month there and spent probably $600 on groceries. Everything was pricey and imported in the local supermarket. It's getting expensive for locals as well and that's when crime goes up. Guess who will the locals blame and target when prices get too high?

I left the U.S. 2 1/2 years ago and I have not looked back! I was supposed to go to Thailand first but couldn't because of covid, so I went to Mexico first with the intention of only staying for like 6 months until Thailand eased their restrictions. Well I;m still here but on my way to Thailand soon. Don't believe it when they tell you that the U.S. is THE best place to be. It's not. It doesn't mean that I hate the U.S. I don't. I was born and raised there as was my entire family, BUT....I will say that the people of Mexico have been very kind to me and I feel like a human being first instead of having a label placed on my skin color first. Mexico is part of my future and I'm pretty sure Thailand will be too. Sad to say, but the only time that I will go back to the U.S. is to visit friends and family, but never to live. (unless through some tragic and twisted fate, I'm FORCED to..lol). I feel happier and safer outside of the U.S.!

Yes, but they are spending $1200 month on groceries. Food in CR is very expensive unless you eat rice and beans everyday. $1200 a month in groceries in Florida would feed a family of 10 people. To achieve the "American Dream" takes a lot more out of us while seemingly less and less achievable. The rat race is making us collectively stressed and unhealthy. Plus we have the issues of astronomical healthcare, housing, and childcare, along with gun violence. As a mother of 2, it's in the back of my mind every time my children and I leave the house. That wouldn't be an issue in a place like Costa Rica. I commend them for taking the leap. My family and I aim to do the same around 2027, when my kids are a bit older.

Everywhere will be cheaper/better if you have more money. The US is a great country (I am an immigrant) for making money. I was not making 6 figures but saved 54% of my salary which allowed me the freedom to do whatever I wanted, including quitting a job I did not like. I live alone, can go on vacation if I wish.
The key is to live on a budget and live within your means. Most Americans are so obsessed with buying things/having lots of money. It's not how much you make but what you do with what you make.

It’s a much simpler way of life. Many Americans think they want that, but then they get there and aren’t into it long term. Just something to keep in mind.
