Both the 991.2 and 992 GT3 share the same 6-speed manual gearbox, with the same ratios. But do they differ in how they feel on the road? Lee pits a 991.2 Clubsport against a 992 Touring to see if the manual transmission offers different nuances between the two 911 generations.

Big thanks to those who bring out the Porsche to be driven, not hidden, from my observation far too many Porsche are hidden in garages and driveways robbing the owner of real Porsche ownership experience. Thanks for sharing!

Yet, another informative and educational video, well done. I think we all like the look of the 991.2 and 992 Tourings. Not that my opinion matters but dare I say the great profiles are ruined when the real wings are in the operational position. It just looks way too agricultural. A ducktail, like the Sport Classic has and what Techart now offers, is so much better.

The single mass flywheel and a couple vinyl stripes can be had for roughly $250k less than the 911R badge. Drivers vs collectors obviously but the scarcity element/argument of collector cars gets nullified by the fact that upgraded tourings are multitudes rarer even than 911R’s. Scarcity plus superior performance, mixed with youth will eventually win out in the Porsche market. Folks coming from civics etc where mods come from eBay can’t fathom that swing, but a Sharkwerks Porsche for example is worth multitudes more on the aftermarket because the next buyer doesn’t have to be inconvenienced for the superior experience.

The 991 looks, dare I say it, old sat next to the 992. While the 996 and 997 are revelling in their modern classic popularity, I feel the 991 is in that awkward stage. A little overshadowed by her younger beautiful sister. Having said all this, I have no doubt that the 991 will mature into a fine milf 😂

Hahaha, I think the 991 looks stunning, whereas the 992 looks a mess by comparison. Each to their own!

I had a 996.1 GT3 Club Sport for many years which came with a single mass flywheel and found the gear change pretty good to use though the clutch was on the heavy side as is the case with all 996 & 997 GT3 variants. Was fortunate enough to have a brief drive in a manual 991.2 GT3 and I reckon this is the best manual gearbox in any car I've driven. I've driven a couple of 997 GT3's but never liked the gear change on these as felt stiff and awkward but maybe these were just cars that had been abused.

So if i heard right, the owner of the 991.2 Gt3 installed a single mass flywheel…? By what Andreas Preuninger told me, he didn’t recommend doing that to the 991.2 gt3’s, and here it is what he told me… “ if a Touring engine is equipped with a single mass flywheel the crankshaft bearings will suffer and lead to engine damage. The crankshaft is different to Gen I and has different harmonics, it needs the counterweight of the flywheel. Dont do it.
Never heard somebody complain about lack of response after gearshifts. The Tourings engine should rev and respond a little better than even the Rs. Despite the flywheel.”
    Regards AP
Crazy right, won’t put my name for obvious reasons but he advice me Not to do that mod to my 991 Touring…
Best regards buddy love your content…

The 992 doesn't have a single mass flywheel. I suspect the difference you're observing is from the 992 individual throttle bodies.

I like the new gt3rs it has alot more aero better on the track vut honestly if I had it I'd be driving more on the road than track and i love the 991.2 gt3&rs and the touring wich is more tham likely the rpute id go injist think the 991.2 is alot better than the 992 it feel oike for the 992 they didjt do anything with the guts to differentiate yhe touring wjere they did for the 991.2 and have heard the new tpurint is pretty harsh on the road where the 991.2 is a legit touring and I like the overall looks alot more on the 991.2 ipo prolly never ve able to afford either but hope to one dah own an air cooled Porsche they are by far my favorite car and would love to own one woyld like to own a 997.2 gt3rs the last manual gt3rs the 4.0 is amazing and is far out of reach for me but dam they are amazing

The 991.2 GT3 (winged and Touring) have a dual mass flywheel. Neither are available from the factory with a single mass flywheel. The 991.1 R had the SMFW as an option and on the whole, the examples with the SMFW sell for more on the aftermarket than those with the DMFW.

Again, Great presentation for us geeks and another learning experience for me. I have Patrick Motorsports G50 gearsets in my air cooled with Wevo shifters. For all of us mere mortals in the US-look at the PECA (Porsche Experience Atlanta) West track. 992 GT3 driving on track with a Laguna Seca Carousel, VIR S's, Nürburgring banking with elevation and and blind cornering. 2 Hours of amazing track experience with the AC on and private instruction at extreme speeds. Amazing for us who can't afford or get an allocation.

The view of all the black plastic when the rear wing is up totally ruins a 992. If I was speccing one I'd have an aero kit or just avoid the touring.
    Always a manual box 👍

Great video, I believe the 992 & Weissach 991.2 have twin throttle bodies which is where the extra power comes from, also I am lead to believe that the 911R gearbox was designed and used in 911.2. I've owned 2 991.2 manuals and currently a 992 GT3 manual and I would say the engine and gearbox feel the same but chassis is very different and the shell feels bigger.

I have loved all my manual gearboxes in 3's and my 4. Flat shifting is great, but hard to stop lifting ya right foot after all these years..!
Fun fact, speaking to Porsche recently, they said that the 992.2 GT3 won't be available in a manual in Oz. Something to do with the technology of cruise control, lane monitoring to meet the new Oz regs....??
