He knew the trend of comic books and where they were going. Comic books now are hotter than they have ever been, they are extremely the rage right now and all comic book values are going through the roof right now. Rick tried making it seem like comic books were a dead market, I know this video was from 09 or w/e, but even then the trends of comics were predicted to sky rocket. That Avengers comic book is worth a fortune and Rick was trying to low ball the life out of it and highway Rob this man.

The guy selling doesnt have to do any of the work, just cash in hand. Ricks people would have to sell it on ebay for $3800 to make the profit. The show should be called, "Lowballing" instead of Pawn Stars.
      Typical Pawn Star conversation with Rick...
      Rick : What do we have here??
      Seller: This is one of Alexander the Great's weapons.
      Rick: I dont think Ive ever seen one of these before, is it real??.
      Seller: Yea, and its very rare....you wont see any on ebay.
      Rick: How much you want for it?
      Seller: 13 thousand.
      Rick: Thats a steep price. Tell you what, Im going get some guys in here
      to do some testing, if it checks out well talk price.
      Seller: Sounds good.
      Weapons expert 1: The sword is legit Macedonian, probably Greco-Persian
      war. This was probably used early in his career, it even seems to have
      some dried blood on it.
      Weapons expert 2: Theres probably 2 others of these, that have ever been
      discovered. Something like this could probably go for 50 - 100 million
      at any auction.
      Rick: So how much you want for it??
      Seller: 13 thousand...
      Rick: Thats too high for me, and I need to make a profit.... Ill give
      you $10.00 for it...
      Seller: It could go for 50 - 100 million easy, and all I want is 13
      thousand...
      Rick: I dont know if I could move something like that. It has historical
      value, and its legit...so Ill give you $12 bucks for it.
      Seller: Again I cant do $12, this is a rare and historical artificial
      used in Macedonian wars, by one of the most famous men in human history.
      Ill take 12 thousand for it.
      Rick: I understand that, but the sword is chipped and has some
      discoloration...
      Seller: Its damaged because its thousands of years old, and it was used
      in battle...
      Rick: Tell you what its a real item used by a historical figure, and even though Im
      taking a risk buying this item... Ill give you $30 bucks for the sword,
      its my final offer.

    The guy offering to sell these books is Greg Reece, one of the bigger dealers from the eastern seaboard. He sets up at shows with a booth full of books valued at a few million dollars. Greg has probably made as many high dollar negotiations as Rick has. That Avengers is from a collection Greg was tying to establish as the "Brooklyn Pedigree" a few years ago. The collection came from guy who worked at the DC offices for several years and over that time he traded books with a guy who worked at Marvel. Greg had some wonderful high-grade books from that collection. He probably appeared on Pawn Stars to have a story to tell to his friends. It sure wasn't to sell a couple mid-grade books at wholesale.

    • @golfmaniac007
      @golfmaniac007 5 лет назад

      how much is a ton of money? the first thing is to get the comic books graded by a well known grading company in comic books. a grade of 4-7 can vary the value greatly. cost to ship to grading company and get them back costs money.....at least $140 or so for the two books.

    I don't get why people selling stuff to Pawn shops or other used merchandise stores don't understand they are serving as Wholesalers selling to a company that will get retail. Unless you're desperate *(seems to be the MO of most of the people that sell to pawn shops) put the item on an auction site like The Bay, or even list it on CL......

    • @kcheong00
      @kcheong00 7 лет назад +1

      Think only works for some items, i think this comic book however is a good example of EBay or some other website once it is verified. If it were memorabilia or historic items, it is alot harder to use those websites.
      I read up the fee is massive for auction (30%) could be wrong.
      Don't forget too, half these people probably just want a quick buck and don't have the time for waiting around. The tables are just around the corner

    • @contrabandjoe7974
      @contrabandjoe7974 7 лет назад +1

      kcheong00 correct. Most people that sell to pawn shops are looking for quick money. Many may not have the resources or knowledge to use other avenues. In your example of 30% commission for auction sites, that 30% is a better deal than what pawn shops give which is typically 40% or tops 50% of retail value...
