      Fingerprints from overuse are different than one time fingerprints. The oil on our skin would SLOWLY go into the print, hence why it's safer to use hands than gloves.

    • @claireglory
      @claireglory 4 года назад +36

      as an item inspector. the only reason we touch an item with barehands is to really imprint our hand signatures. and believe me, when it comes to 1st edition items, there are only a couple of people that would have the chance to touch it, and is very easy to record who have touched it. touching it and leaving your mark in it is like saying, "i've been here". having your mark on many rare items will also increase your reputation.

    • @alpertroncp2198
      @alpertroncp2198 4 года назад +8

      I know people who work with and handle medieval manuscripts made from velum. They thoroughly wash and dry their hands before, and they won't wear gloves as its easier to handle things delicately without them. Clean fingers aren't a problem, old fingerprints that lift away black ink are the problems.

    • @claireglory
      @claireglory 4 года назад +2

      @@alpertroncp2198 that is true. people still do that. but its a different case when you are handling sensitive artifacts that are hundreds of years old. my team doesn't touch them we just directly use a portable microscope to examine the item. we do not touch it as it can cause further damage to the item. but if its a solid state of artifact like a statue made from granite then it is ok to touch. even comics that are 50 years old is still ok to touch bare handed. some people prefers the sensation of touch then they can grade the quality of the item.
