The mic is real, this was filmed in the studio. The only 3D render is Sui-chan and the headphone she is using. They imposed the model on her post-production, and she used the motion capture suit and face reader, so she is singing this one take in the studio, and killed it. She said in her Twitter space she did after the video went online, that during the meeting for The First Take, the staff and manager said that she should just went for it without doing warm up or introduction like others, since there would be people who don't know what Vtubers are and it would be good just to blow them away with her singing, which it worked, people in the waiting room and before she began to sing, there were comments already saying not so good thing that she was an "anime" and pissed off at the fans for posting comet emoji (her oshi mark) thinking it was spaming, after the singing, she shut them up for good.
Now add to this that she had throat surgery in september, and she does this without warmup now a mere 4 months later. Suisei isn't just fantastic she is out of this world.

imo people who think that it's overhyped don't understand how much of a big deal the first take is for japanese musicians in general.
suisei is amazing ofc, but she's now standing not just on top of vtuber youtube, but on mainstream japanese music industry, alongside big names that you'd often see on animes and oricon charts.
she's now being taken seriously as a musician. not just a "vtuber who can sing" but a true *singer*
Not only was this a big deal for Japanese musicians and vtubers, but a big leap in what the future will hold for anonymous avatars. Virtual avatars are becoming a more popular medium to communicate not only music but other social activities. I hope these types of interactions can get even more popular and I think that both the Vtuber and VrChat industries are the pioneers of this idea.
Im not too informed about the live concerts the Vtubers do and im guessing that that is also a big step in virtual, anonymous interactions.

What really get's me is the weight of this moment... I can't even imagine how she felt doing this. So many Vtubers out there want to be taken seriously as true performers, entertainers and artists, but because of the social stigma that comes with being a part of this community and being seen as nothing but a group of weebs, most people on outside looking in can't take them seriously. Imagine knowing that, going there with the weight of thousands and thousands of Vtubers wishing the world would see them for what they truly are and only getting ONE SHOT to prove to the rest of the world how talented they are honestly brings me to tears. That first breathe alone shows the pressure she felt at that moment and that first note already made me cry.... And of course she killed it!

Watching people's reactions to suisei's first take has been a rabbit hole for me as a Hololive fan. Commenting about it with knowledge and suggestions for people who clearly want to know more. I'm excited for the second song she has coming soon on the first take
@@syaondri Of the reactions Ive seen 95% are completely and utterly positive. The few that aren't, they have things to say about the lack of facial expression which is true, and the lack of understanding of why Vtubers don't show their faces. This is coming of course from people who have no idea what a Vtuber is as well as zero understanding of Japanese.
Suisei did say in a stream that 'Stellar Stellar' at 12pm (the time this TFT was apparently filmed) would kill her. While you can hear her voice sounding a little strained in some parts, she definitely killed the song
Honestly, I think the strained parts only add to the performance. It really showed that she was giving it her all.

To clarify about the warmup thing, it HIGHLY likely that Suisei did her own vocal warmups off-camera. It's not good for the vocal chords to start singing, especially the way Suisei does, without doing so. Understanding why a lack of warmup is significant requires some context on how the other videos tend to start.
Most of their videos start with some vocal warmups and maybe a little light chatting, to set the mood and also establish some personability. The reason Suisei ended up not doing this was because there were concerns (mostly from management) that people who looked at her with curiosity, and perhaps doubt, would be dismissive of her during this pre-music segment before she even had a chance to start singing. So, to take advantage of people's curiosity without giving them any time to become disinterested, they decided she should just immediately start with vocals to grab their attention. Maybe it was undue concern, but I think the idea still worked regardless.
It's also worth noting that this wasn't so much about "doubters" and "haters," people who are actively negative or antagonistic toward the idea of vTubers or virtual anime girls or what have you, but the multitudes of people who were going to see this video who would genuinely have no idea what they were looking at and be passively dismissive. No one cares about the doubters and haters, they're already doubting and hating.
Also, the person on GUITAR (Taku Inoue) is the composer/producer of Stellar Stellar, not the person on piano. The person on piano is, however, a part of Midnight Grand Orchestra, Suisei and Taku Inoue's collab project.
Starting the song without any lighthearted talk is also quite strategic to capture people's attention the fastest.
1. Viewers of FIRST TAKE are mostly people who enjoy Japanese music, so understandably, there will be a part of the audience who knows little to nothing about Vtubers. So, capturing their attention with pure talent should be a priority.
2. The song choice is important, too. 「Stellar Stellar」 is arguably one of Suisei's most popular songs, but it's also one of the songs with a powerful opening - no instruments in the first few seconds, just raw vocal talent. Best way to draw attention.
3. Generally, people take about 3 to 5s to unconsciously decide whether they are interested in a topic. If Suisei has started with some small talk, some viewers may have just clicked off the video since she's not a famous singer, as compared to people who had been on the channel.
Ultimately, the choice to perform 「Stellar Stellar」 is a good move, as the first Vtuber to perform on FIRST TAKE.

One thing I loved about all this is that Suisei explained in a stream afterwards that she had once told her manager in Hololive that she was thinking on doing an MV where she pretended that she was on THE FIRST TAKE singing a song. The reply of her Manager was a big no, explaining to her that she should continue forwards with the objective of one day being on THE FIRST TAKE for real, not pretending. Suisei agreed with her and the rest is history.

The First Take is a prestigious opportunity for any singer. It showcases the immense talent of anyone singing in the video. I would say that it is no joke that only perfection is in these videos. I especially love Uru and Lisa having a duet.

I know I shouldn't be judgemental of others but the dude in chat that said "it's neat but the performance doesn't have any impact on me" must be dead inside. I teared up in the first 2 words. I felt Suisei break through a barrier for VTubers everywhere with a single song.
A lot of the impact from a performance like this is from the context. Personally, I am not at all familiar with the music side of vtubers and this performance didn't really make me think anything other than "That was pretty good."
It's definitely a great performance, and the impact it will have on the mainstream recognition of the music aspect of vtubing will be huge. Especially so for Suisei as an artist.

@@midknightcrisis8612 well mostly the fact that he willingly engaged with a streamer reacting to vtuber content. But the original comment even admits they are aware what he is about to say is in the minority. If they were completely ignorant there wouldn't be clarification or context like that.
There's also the possibility the commenter was doing the exact same thing I did here. Say something slightly controversial, while fully understanding the implications of it, to see if a completely banal comment will get a rise out of people.
Or they were just a curious normie who doesn't react emotionally to a musical performance unless a real life human is shown. Or at all I suppose. But that reality is even more cringe to me.

I first heard this when I had youtube just playing whatever (mainly vtuber clips cause I just started leaning into the rabbit hole at that time) while I was cleaning and as soon as she started singing I had to stop what I was doing to listen cause I was blown away. Suisei literally kicked me into the rabbit hole that day with her singing alone and I couldn't be happier ☄️☄️☄️
To all my knowledge The First Take channel is all about first takes, so every thing is first take, I think that by warm up is meant like that aaaAAaaaA they do. They usually talk a bit an cam too, etc.

I feel like there could be a godlike anime/manga about someone that composes songs for vtubers. Basically the piano guy here. Following the process of getting to know the talent and writing a song to their strengths that encapsulates whatever it is they are trying to convey with the song. Each arc would be a song for a different person.
Would be super fun, love the idea. Kinda like a Dress-Up Darling but for Vtubers, except each one could only get one. Dress-Up Darling x Golden Boy? 😂
There's something satisfying and eargasmic about Suisei's high notes that is just perfect to listen in. That's what captivated me every time she sings. I don't see her just a VTuber, she's always be an artist.

The inhuman effort I make to not cry during this session is incredible...
I love the First Take concept so much. It showed your singing prowess directly. No autotune, no backup singers. They even invited Western singers as well like Avril Lavigne and Harry Styles.
Cali is making her own way(her target audience being more EN focus helps give her that wider audience exposure), and all the credit to her for that, but she's a clear 2-3 factors off Suisei when it comes to her singing. Risu has the vocal range, but I'm uncertain if she has the temperament/mental toughness to do what Suisei does. Sora might've helped open up the industry and paved a path for Suisei, but she doesn't have the charisma Suisei can pull(I don't think we can knock her temperament, she did trailblaze Hololive, but she's a bit too chill/relaxed vs the lengths Suisei will go to for her singing). AZki has some talent too, but she's more mainstream in her appeal(which makes her marketable, and probably why she was chosen as the focus for Inonaka music, but the downside to that is she's not quite as impactful).
This appearance on first take is kinda both a sign of more mainstream acceptance of virtual performers into the industry, as well as a bit of a flex/statement message from Suisei herself(that proving doubters/haters wrong thing, which is ballsy in a way not many in her position would be able to pull). Here's hoping that more of the talents in Vtubing will find their way onto the bigger stage Suisei is now opening up(if we go by history, it might not even be Suisei who takes the grand stage first, but we'll soon see where inter-industry politics will take things).
Mori's not really a singer and hadn't had that kind of training until Hololive. She's always been a hip hop artist first and all her music has roots in that.

Stellar Stellar never fails to bring a tear to my eye, there is just so much raw emotion that Suisei POURS into that song.
There are some incredible singers in Hololive, Suisei is absolutely among them. She's right there along with AZKi, IRyS, Calli, Risu, Moona, Reine and many others.
But this just shows the dedication and hours Suisei put into learning her lyrics, to be able to perform them so well within 1 take and not even having to warm up beforehand.
The moment I finished watching this I just yelled “BOI… GADAAAAM… HOOOLYYYY FUCK THATS A VOICE!!!”
I've been watch Suisei since march 2020 and seeing how far she's come, and how she's managed to not only dominate the vtubing space musically, but also break out into mainstream circles too makes me so happy and proud of her. I bet the producers she auditioned to in the past, who told her she was too much of a generalist and rejected her are kicking themselves for doing so now. I can't wait until this Wednesday when we get her second First Take song. Now that people know what to expect it might not get the same numbers / catch people off guard, but hopefully it'll take a lot of those people who were impressed by her, and turn them into fans.

This reminds me of the time towa did a full concert with a live band I'm not sure if they did it like first take style or if they did multiple live recordings and took the best ones for the broadcast but it gave off similar vibes of kickassery

Either way I kinda maybe cried when I heard this version of Stellar Stellar. And the subsequent times I heard this version. There's something to the fact that I've been following Suisei since before Stellar Stellar was released, I think - It's super exciting to see her reach things like First Take now.

For Risu to get on there she'll need to release another banger song but it has to be a next level banger, the few foreign artists they've invited to TFT have already been previously established world stars so Risu would need to focus a lot more on making music(Which I'm 100% down for!)
its not that the performers warm-up with songs, but i usually see them vocal exercising before everything starts, to make sure they would sound their best. But suisei here, just fuckn flew, and belt it out on the first syllables. gotta say this was very insane to see, because you can see LisA doing vocal warm ups and exercises before she stars, truly a star.

Im telling you, Suisei has always been great but in 2023 it feels like the stars are aligning for her in a lot of different ways. We saw her First take, her album, and her 2nd solo live! And that was just in the first month. we’re also gonna see Holo Fes, gonna see another First take tomorrow, and also gonna see a 3rd solo concert “coming soon”. Suisei is an incredibly hard worker and someone who shoots for the stars every single tike and im telling you This is her year and it makes me emotional and incredibly excited to see her accomplishments in 2023

Risu probably needs more songs, before she does such a thing. Its such an unfortunate thing that ID is a poorer region and she has all the issues she has, less opportunities. Suisei knocked it out of the park and the 2nd song is coming in a few days!
Well we can see this situation in a positive light, like..... imagine.....if somehow Risu actually got invited to perform on First Take despite all the "debuffs" that she's suffered and killed it..... imagine how that'll change her current status quo....
More original songs, working together with big-name producers or records, and maybe a solo concert. Just being good at singing is not enough for ONE FIRST TAKE, you had to build a name for yourself too.

the thing about the first take is that they have to perform it like just one take whatever happens and not auto tuned no lipsync no nonsense and I think the channel is owned by the same company that handled YOASOBI and somewhat sponsored or co-owned by sony

Suisei is such a damn pro. Her voice, control, projection and the way she just kills those long notes is just way too good. I adore this toned down version of Stellar Stellar too. I never thought that song could get any better but she just killed it here. I really love how Vtubers and their music is starting to filter out into a larger audience, one that isn't exclusively people who are already Vtuber fans.

It's not just the fact that the performance was amazing. It's Suisei, of course it's amazing. It's the fact that this is a first and it is HUGE not just for hololive but for the vtuber scene as a whole. That being said, i think Suisei is the perfect vtuber to be on the frontlines of this whole thing.

The best First Takes are from ryokushoukou shakai, I want Watame to be the next for how much work she puts on developing her music career.
I feel like the only person in all of Hololive who would argue that Suisei isn't the strongest voice in the company is Suisei herself, who would if pressed hard enough say its Callie, Watame, IRyS, AZki, and/or Risu.
