Yes one of my favorite Lifeson solos. So soulful and matched the feel of the message perfectly. My favorite song on Grace Under Pressure as a matter of fact.

The line you mentioned "Like windshields towards a fly" has always stuck with me because (as far as I know) the fly can not see the windshield or can't avoid it and we can not see everything coming our way whether good or bad. Neil Peart lost both his wife and daughter in the 90's in a relatively short period of time so he experienced what he had written about over a decade earlier. Thank you so much for your insight.

One of the best songs to come out of “Grace Under Pressure”. I have always loved this one so much. The first time I saw them play this live was on the “Sn&A” tour in 2007 & I actually cried. It is so intense & it moved me so much. Then I was ecstatic to find out they were playing it on their farewell tour in 2015. I went to 12 shows on that last tour with my husband & we got to hear “BTW” 5 times. Yes I cried everytime I heard it. It was most memorable watching Geddy Lee play it from the 2nd row. The man is amazing. Glad you covered this one. 😃

This is from the album Grace Under Pressure...it is Rush's most obvious cold war album...written at the height of the Reagan years during the arms race between the US & the Soviet Union...it's a bleak album but is very reflective of a time when we thought nuclear war was a very real and imminent threat...

LOL "Turn the Page" you're hooked....
This song has an early 20th century flair to it, with a few of its lines:
"A bowl of dust" refers to the Dust Bowl in North America in the early 20th century.
"Brother can you spare" refers to a classic folk song IE "Brother can you spare a dime" in the Great Depression
"Lost generation" refers to the WWI generation that had a huge percentage of men die and/or come back maimed and shell shocked.
You may want to fast forward even more, to 2002. Neil lost his daughter in a car accident and within the same year, his wife succumbed to cancer in the late 90's. Rush went on a several year hiatus and when they came back, their 2002 album focused on everything he had gone through - Secret Touch is an amazing song, just for story behind it alone! ruclips.net/video/N_JIE0uCDR8/видео.html

Grace Under Pressure is easily one of Rush's best albums, and what very few people seem to know is that, between this album and their previous album (Signals), they almost broke up as a band. The fame and fortune generated by Moving Pictures and Signals exerted a huge amount of pressure on the them, but they survived it...Hence, Grace Under Pressure!

"boom to bust" - A reference to the Great Depression. "bowl of dust" - A period in the 1930s saw a series of droughts in the western U.S., often called the 'dust bowl.' "Rockets red glare" - a line from the U.S. national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. "Brother can you spare" - a line from the song Brother Can You Spare a Dime, a song popular during the Great Depression. "Wasteland" - A reference to T.S. Elliot's "The Waste Land." "Lost Generation" - A group of post-WWI writers (including Hemmingway and T.S. Elliot) were labeled as such after being disillusioned as a result of the war. Grace Under Pressure came out during the height of the cold war, and people felt angst-ridden and hopeless. The escape from this reality is tempting (TV and film junkies). I think Neil saw this parallel between modern times (then the 1980s) and those writers in the 1930's.

If you want a song with great lyrics that deal with “how we react in our lives to what we experience in our childhoods” you should check out “Armor & Sword” from the “Snakes & Arrows” album. I was going to suggest “Everyday Glory” from “Counterparts” but I see you have already covered that one. From a counselor standpoint, “Armor & Sword” is amazing. NAMASTE!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

While I was "soaking up the cathode rays" of this reaction video I caught Kirti expressing some of the guitar work by Alex. Loved that from her. Shows she is really feeling the music. "Dreams to a bowl of dust" captures a time in American history when settlers who had moved out west to chase a dream found themselves in a years long drought that literally turned working farms into dust bowls. Many lives were lost in that time. Thank you both for all of your hard work...I really appreciate it.

The passing of time was something that Neil thought quite a bit about. There are several songs dealing with the ravages of time and the importance of not taking for granted the time you've been allotted in life.

This song makes me think of another song from Rush: "Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, a pattern so grand and complex. Time after time we lose sight of the way. Our Causes can't see their effects." - Natural Science from Rush. This album came out near the end of the cold war and nuclear war was a prevalent theme in this record. Distant Early Warning & Red Sector A were two other songs from this record that touched on these themes as well. Time is fleeting. Cherish these experiences. This moment will never come again. One of my favorite sayings: 'You can't move forward while looking behind'. Peace.

So deep!!! Hell yes!!! Fantastic. Brilliant closing track for this album. No matter how many times I listen, always catches me off guard. So, so intense, but that rhythm.........ohhhhh, it fits it so well!!!! And Alex’s guitar...... good lord man!!!!
Again, so, so many I could recommend off this album. You’ve got two of them down guys, keep the ball rolling! I know I’ve pitched Red Sector A more than enough times, so I’ll try something for something different. ;)
The Enemy Within. Fourth track on the album, it’s a little, bouncing, reggae number that talks about inner insecurities, self-anxiety, and pressure. Something I’m sure you two as councilors can totally relate to. It’s not as extravagant as the other tracks (Alex does not have a solo in this number), but the bopping beat is dead on, and you can’t help but rock out, plus Neil has quite a few drum tricks up his sleeve, and Geddy’s keyboard work gets quite the highlight.
Give it a shot guys! As always, I’m sure you’ll love it! Rock on and Namaste! 🤟🙏

We just got started on Patreon, Zacharia, so we've been trying to first get a decent understanding of how we can pace things with our recording and editing sessions, now that we are slowly figuring our way around things, we can start to react to other requests too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one. Cheers.
