Hi, my husband and I came across your channel. Thank you for your videos. If we hadn't came across them we wouldn't now have Kansas on our top 3 states to consider moving to. We're not big on sports and we're not fans of super big cities like Atlanta where we're close to atm. We do like being able to bike and walk about in peace. How are the winters in Wichita?
Winters are cold but the snow hasn't been as much in the last many years. THe last few years more of a dusting or inch or two not the 6 inches plus which shut down the city for a bit which I like because I always like to get out. Thanks for watching.
Very cold. The weather varies here alot. They saying here is "If you dont like the weather, wait awhile itll change"!!! We have had less snow over last few years.
Wichita is a city of around 350k. It ranges from the 49th to the 51st biggest city in the country continually. The great thing about Wichita is, despite a large population, it has the air of a city 1/3 the size. Wichita was 10-15 years behind the times in the 80s and 90s, but started to catch up in the new century. Now, Wichita is quick to react to new events, technology, trends, etc. It has thoroughly modernized in the last 10 years. The east and west sides of town are growing rapidly. Just 15 years ago or so, Tyler out west and Webb out east were the edges of town, now it has expanded much further/growing. Down town used to be dead, but in the last 10 years has been continually improved upon, including the addition of several apartment complexes in renovated buildings, and new construction, especially along the river. Perhaps 15 yrs ago, the Delano district was gang areas/garbage. The city and developers have made considerable efforts to improve the area and have succeeded, especially with the addition of Riverfront stadium. The dinning out has greatly expanded-numbers and options, including high end. People say Wichita is boring. Its the effort you put into it. Perhaps the only 2 things you cant do for geographical reasons are snow skying and surfing. But just about anything else you can do. There are plenty of theaters. There are many fun centers, game rooms, etc. Price wise, while Wichita is getting more expensive, it is still far behind the east and west coast and many other large cities-and I hope it stays that way, especially housing, however, there is an effort today, especially by realtors to jack up prices 10-40% above common sense. Hopefully its a trend that wont continue. And some of that is by the local government itself-either for more taxes or to actually artificially drive up values. As for violence. If you look on paper, some might see bad, but what you have to understand, its mostly contained in a few areas and it generally stays there, especially in our 'hood.' Even then, our 'bad' areas are far safer than most big cities bad areas. Also, almost always, all this political crap that has gone on around the country weather you support it or not, almost always stays out of Wichita, Wichita is very tame when it comes to that, and the problems other cities have rarely happen here. And for those who care, police issues are usually rare and far in between. Our departments, for their flaws, are far more professional and effective than other cities. Our school system is usually better. The problems are not as numerous and frequent as other cities this size. I believe the quality of the schools is better as well. We have several colleges and several private schools if that interests you. Our medical services here are usually quality and the quantity/choices have greatly grown over the last 15 years. There weather here can suck. Especially the wind. The memes you see are probably accurate. You CAN have all 4 seasons in 1 week. That is my only gripe here. Oh, and the drivers suck ( I as well). I will say, you can get from E-W or N-S in under 30 minutes 95% of the time. ALL of my big city friends marvel how quick they can get around here. Over all, Wichita is a great place to live. Invent a weather machine and it becomes even better.
Oh yeah...Wichita is a moderate conservative city. We are probably 10% liberal, 15% libertarian, 10% ultra conservative, and 65% moderate conservative. But we welcome all-as long as youre not too wack-a-doo. Our police chief and our mayor used to be a poc. We dont get into that crap here. All we care about is if youre a good person and qualified. Sedgwick County would welcome Trump or other republicans enthusiastically. Forr Biden, and Hillary? far far more Tepidly.
