Part of my LEO qualification course is to draw and put 2 rounds through a target at 5 yards from the hip in 3 seconds waiting for the target to turn. So pretty much anyone can do that, however its not fast enough, which is why the minute you think things may go south you draw your gun and aim in. The quick draw is a pure Hollywood fantasy. I believe the true purpose of our quick draw test for qualification is just to build the confidence that at close enough quarters under stress you actually can draw and shoot somebody twice in less than a few seconds. I'm guessing most officers at my agency can do it under 1.5, that's with a modern holster with a 2 step lock and a glock 17... Clearing the modern locking mechanism on a duty holster is the hardest part to master as its a fine motor skill.
Well said. Nobody wants to get in a fast draw duel. The guys carrying appendix concealed can consistently draw and hit in under a second from total concealment and that is scary. I wouldn't want to be a LEO in today's world for that and several other reasons.

Very good Tuco! Well thought out and fun! Plus your reaction times were pretty close to what was taught in accident reconstruction classes I took, ie speed x reaction time =distance traveled before applying the brakes. A fascinating and boring subject at the same time lol
That’s the good stuff! It’s hard to make videos better than the last consistently but TUCO does it! Just keeps getting more entertaining and always educational. Stay awesome gunslinger
Wyatt Earp is quoted as saying "fast is fine, but accuracy is everything." Really makes no difference if you're faster if you can't accurately hit your target under duress. Is Buckskin Joe related to Scott (Kentucky Ballistics) ? Kinda sounded like him. LOL
Ya but what if you, or the other guy... can hit accurately under duress, or just get's lucky? It's a tough choice at very close range. Thanks for watching!😃
@TUCOtheratt from what I've read... gunfights were rarely single shot winner. So smooth and accurate likely won even if the first to draw got off a faster shot.
OODA The OODA Loop model (also known as the "decision cycle"), which was developed by US Air Force Colonel John Boyd to help pilots make quick decisions when engaging in air combat.
In the Call of Juarez video games, quick-draw duels are a recurring mechanic. In Bound in Blood, you have to keep an eye on your opponent so they stay in focus, while at the same time keeping your hand close to your gun. You can only draw and fire at the sound of a church bell, not before. In Gunslinger, much of the same, keep focused on your enemy and your drawing speed will be faster. However, if you draw first at any time before the signal is given, you will be *penalized* for a "Dishonorable Kill" and not earn any extra points. Yet the opponent usually reaches first, anyway. Guess they were big fans of The Quick and the Dead.
@@TUCOtheratt There's more! In Gunslinger, about every duel opponent you face is a famous figure from the Old West, from Pat Garret, Bob Ollinger, John Wesley Hardin, Johnny Ringo, Kid Curry, the Dalton Brothers, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, even Billy the Kid and Jesse James!
next scenario- buckskin is facing you at a 3/4 angle- with hand on belt- just has to pull back and level his wrist. cannot out pull him. this was great, and it confirms my suspicions, if you try to out pull a guy, you are dead.
Hickok-Dave Tut is one of the few TV western type gun fights. Most were like when Luke Short shot Charlie Storm in Tombstone at the Oriental saloon in 1881. Short set Storm's shirt on fire he was so close. Storm never even pulled a gun
In the first scenario atleast the shots were so close you could argue that both might hit their shots. even if someone gets hit it takes enough time to realize that your shot is on the way before you get hit or realize it. I think two guys dying is the most realistic outcome, if both don't mess up their aim.
This was fun to watch thanks for sharing this I haven't watched a good western in awhile l.o.l any accurate Draw within a second is Deadly it makes me wonder that if in some gunfights that Both shooters could have Been hit and dropped like a split second apart 🤔
Great cinematic!!! Heyy that holster is amazing too lol Can you tell me where you bought it or you made it too? Haha Again great video, keep making good content!
i was talking with AR American on the phone the other day. we got on the subject of making a cap & ball revolver into a race gun. He told me you were wanting to do this but the springs are so light its not a feasible idea. problems setting off caps. Or the Caps blowing the hammer back. I worked on a idea for a hammer that never cap jammed. Instead of a large face of the hammer striking the cap. We cut the nose of the hammer to a thin line rounded over. the one i made the line was in the center. but you could do it on the left of the right. Being thin it increases the force on that single spot dramatically. so very light springs would set off caps. I wasn't having any cap jams either. it wouldn't blow the hammer back. There was not enough surface area on the hammer to be blown back. The energy would blow the cap off the gun or fragment into small pieces like normal. The idea of this hammer was to make really light Springs work and get rid of cap jams. It worked well and might be the key to making a race gun out of a cap and ball revolver.
Good to know. A cap and ball race gun would be very cool and one of a kind. How many test fires did you do to draw your conclusions if you don't mind me asking. I consider 1 to 2 failures per 100 to be acceptable with my race SAAs shooting large pistol primers.
@@TUCOtheratt it worked just as well as the normal hammer. I sent the hammer to blackie Thomas we were working together on this idea. In the last 2 years i have had really bad luck with the quality of caps. About 5 out of every hundred failed to go off. But this is in all my guns. So any failures i had I chalked up to bad caps. I didn't notice more failures then what i would get with a regular hammer. The hardest part is making the hammer face. I used pietta and the hammers are extremely hard and tuff. I had to anneal the hammer multiple times. Plus use carbide end mills.
You do realize a gun fights the way they are. Preteried in western movie never happened like gunsmoke rifleman all those are big men's that their imagination. That's all I got to say about that

Now do the one where the outlaw and the sheriff both stick their off hand straight out in the air and lean their body wayyyyy back as far as they can without falling over 🤣 😅
Really fast USPSA shooters can react to the audible start signal, draw and fire a first shot on a very close target in as little .6 seconds. Your reaction time to the audible start signal at .15 seconds is very fast. I've tested quite a few guys with the timer recording their time to shoot and .17 is about as fast as I've seen. Most guys are .20 - .23 seconds. I've heard of guys down around .12 or .13 but never personally seen it.
Somebody being challenged probably was nervous and gave away the moment he decided to draw. So, by observing very closely you could almost simultanously (with the challenged one) go for your gun. (Imagine the start of a running game: seeing the finger bend on the trigger of the signal gun. You could start almost together with the sound of the shot.) Being a little bit faster was enough then. But of course speed is nothing if you cannot hit your target.
Outstanding video Sir!! I laughed, I cried, I jumped out of my chair! Lol. In all seriousness, very well done! I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about reality vs movies. I would still like to see you compete in a SASS event though..
@@TUCOtheratt as someone who is about to buy their first revolver, that’s not a family heirloom. Could you tell me, should I get a new model single six or old model single six? Are familiar with them?
@southernplumber7373 The Ruger single six is probably the best single action 22. I owned anolld model 30 years ago. I am not familiar with th new model. I will say a new Pietta GW2 in 45 cal is probably the same price under 600
There is always a good chance to kill each other simultaneously. Good way not being so lonly committing suicide. Years of training with double success.
I think if there are two equal in skills (fast draw, accuracy and smoothness) challengers they would kill each other in the same milliseconds. Both are dead. No one can give an advance in such situation to let his opponent to draw first. Similar set up to duel between Ringo vs Doc Holliday from Tombstone movie. Fast draw holster vs cross draw holster. Ringo lost because he was slower. If Ringo had an advance from Doc, he would finish Doc. To win the gun fight 1 to 1 winner needs to be fast as the lightning.
Is it realistic that both gunmen would be shot? It seems like in every scenario the reaction to getting shot would take longer than finishing one's shot. Great video, I really enjoyed it. Fun and informative.

@@TUCOtheratt I figured it took some creative cinematography! It was really well put together! Very enjoyable as well! I do appreciate you taking the time to tell the audience about the historical inaccuracies in westerns more times than not! As fun as they are, not always as true as the screen suggest!
@@SaintAndrewTV Looking forward to your interview tonight.😃
@@TUCOtheratt thank you!
I thought it was well executed, now how about the soldiers on horse back riding calvery style engaged in battle with natives riding in all directions.....NAWWWWW 😂😂😂❤ loved the video Tucco as always.
Top quality video. Dang. Best thing I’ve watched since El Dorado.
Thank ya kindly for enjoying my no budget mini Western.
Just randomly found you and your channel and your videos are AAWESOME!!!!
now I'm a new sub and hoooooly the bell!!!
And now to binge watch your channel...lol
Absolutely brilliant episode, I wish I was your neighbour 😂 so cool 👌
Very good Tuco! Well thought out and fun! Plus your reaction times were pretty close to what was taught in accident reconstruction classes I took, ie speed x reaction time =distance traveled before applying the brakes. A fascinating and boring subject at the same time lol
That’s the good stuff! It’s hard to make videos better than the last consistently but TUCO does it! Just keeps getting more entertaining and always educational. Stay awesome gunslinger
Wow! Thanks for the kind comment. That's what I try to do...keep it entertaining.
Great editing, love the added comedy 😂
Thanks Kid!
That was some great fun
Thanks for watching 😀
When the shots of both shooters are so close together, it may not matter who shoots first as both will get hit.
As a fellow RUclipsr I can appreciate how much work you put into this video.
Thanks 😊
OODA
The OODA Loop model (also known as the "decision cycle"), which was developed by US Air Force Colonel John Boyd to help pilots make quick decisions when engaging in air combat.
going to another level.very good subject tbanks
"we are shooting blanks", that's what Alec said😊
In the Call of Juarez video games, quick-draw duels are a recurring mechanic.
Sounds like fun!
Pretty eye opening! Great video!!
Bob Munden would have dealt with six people and they would not have noticed it before he began reloading the second time.
With a cross draw your left hip is pointed at the opponent.
Use the Triple Shot !!!
Use The Triple Shot!!!
Man thanks for the content and information
Didn’t know they let the the guy go first on purpose
Man this guy has fire cowboy fashion sense
Ha Ha! Thank you!
next scenario- buckskin is facing you at a 3/4 angle- with hand on belt- just has to pull back and level his wrist. cannot out pull him. this was great, and it confirms my suspicions, if you try to out pull a guy, you are dead.
Hickok-Dave Tut is one of the few TV western type gun fights. Most were like when Luke Short shot Charlie Storm in Tombstone at the Oriental saloon in 1881. Short set Storm's shirt on fire he was so close. Storm never even pulled a gun
Always fun to watch. Rewatching old westerns fun to see how real or not real some are
I watch westerns all the time. I love them even with their flaws.
@biggusdickus5986 never seen that.
I would love 🥰🥰 your take on the gunfights in the movie " The Quick and the Dead" your take or reenactment!!!
"How about that left hand, Ace?"
In the first scenario atleast the shots were so close you could argue that both might hit their shots. even if someone gets hit it takes enough time to realize that your shot is on the way before you get hit or realize it. I think two guys dying is the most realistic outcome, if both don't mess up their aim.
Great clip Tuco.
Very good idea! Has very high potential..well produced too. Likes and commented for the algo
Thanks man!
Nice duels and good vs bad cowboy
This was fun to watch thanks for sharing this I haven't watched a good western in awhile l.o.l any accurate Draw within a second is Deadly it makes me wonder that if in some gunfights that Both shooters could have Been hit and dropped like a split second apart 🤔
Both then and now both being shot is common. thanks for watching!
I was wondering/ thinking about the same dammed thing!!!!!? If both were evenly matched and accurate....both should die.?????
Fascinating, interesting, entertaining, and humorous as usual. Your editing skills are superb. Well done Tuco....
Thank you very much! I enjoy editing almost as much as shooting!
Great cinematic!!! Heyy that holster is amazing too lol Can you tell me where you bought it or you made it too? Haha Again great video, keep making good content!

Great scene in a great movie!
i was talking with AR American on the phone the other day. we got on the subject of making a cap & ball revolver into a race gun.

Good one.
This was funny! Love these videos.
Glad you enjoyed!

Bucksin Jo looks pretty cool!
He might show up again sometime. Thanks for watching!
You pal are a banger. Subbed.
Wow! Thanks for the sub man! 😃
Very cool
Wicked cool vidio. Thanks Tuco.
Thanks for watching!

Years of training with double success.
your reaction time is way above average wow
Thanks 😊
Yes often both men were shot even if mortally wounded.

Ha Ha ! Thanks for watching!😃
Mr TUCO, that was a really good video. I think western shooting competition should be in scenario you present in your viodeos, without this silly bendeded bodies that looks more like cripple zombie competition.
To make it even more realistic, I would add some kind of paintball gun in opposite side, with some motion detector to be closer to the possible outcome. Onece again thank you for your work, nice watching you from oveseas ! Stay safe. 💪
Thanks for watching. I have thought...wouldn't it be cool to have a competition where you take turns drawing first with a a handy cap like cross draw vs a side draw?
Hold R2 to fill the deadeye bar😊
This is how fast draw competition should be done could use wax bullets and some protection it would be one hell of a show like the Quick and the Dead single elimination winner takes all I'm not fast but I'd play
Great vid! one other thing mybe to consider, how dangerous this is IRL if these times are so close togeather, it is highly likely that both of them will get shot. And it is very rara that one bullet does the job... so don't try to challange anyone this way :D
I would love to see more videos like this!

I’m assuming you’ve studied the OODA Loop. So, wouldn’t the person who had to react to the other person drawing first always be at a disadvantage?
Yes. He might be able to make up for the disadvantage but it would always be a disadvantage in a one on one gunfight.
Hey I was curious but where do you get your clothes like the belt and spurs?
"I never drew first, but I drew first blood"
Ha Ha. That's a great song!😃
Rule one in a real gun fight. Have your gun already in your hand and shoot first.
@@biggusdickus5986 Shooting in the back equals prison time for murder.
That was great reality comparison...I think so many factors came in back in those days better more accurate and reliable ammo now compared to then.and also were the guns technically as accurate then as now with all the high tech methods now of producing firearm barrels etc chrome lined laser rifling etc. As much as I enjoy the movies I know the reality was quite different in the day especially saloon fights when everyone is liqueur,d up whiskey does not improve anybodies marksman ship etc.
