- A comparison between the accelerations of the ferrari enzo and mclaren f1.
I used a dial analysis program to tell the speeds recorded on the speedos.
the time was synced such that it is 3.1s when both cars are at 100kmh (enzo's 0-100kmh) .

Although there are faster cars, there'll never be another supercar like the Mclaren f1.

I believe F1s are limited to 231mph in production spec (372 kph, so pretty much exactly what it stops at here). Think the 243mph record it did back in the day was with a raised rev limiter, which I guess is why it's accelerating hard right up to 375 in this clip. Must be different aerodynamics at work between the two cars.
+higurro Maybe you're right about rev limiter in the F1, but notice that the driver in the Ferrari did a terrible job shifting gears.
no the rev limiter was raised and i believe a conerter of sorts meaning the car had a power boost 670Hp+ and thats why the speed was raised so much although had mclaren wanted to they couldve let the car do 241mph had their record fallen but it never really did also the car was yearning for a 7th gear meaning had the technology been up to scratch then we probably wouldve seen the F1 top out at minimum 405kph and max 413kph amazing to say the least
RECREANT No the XP5 only had the "normal" 627 bhp engine - they did bump the limiter 1000rpms though..that's why it was able to reach 391km/h.
as far as i know, normally RPM limiter gets active in 7400 rpm, but they raised the bar to the 7800 rpm, so they did 391+ km/h.
This 391 km is avarage of come+go... not only one direction. And one of commenters said, "it needs 7th gear" i believe it so...
@@gokhand9635 F1 rev limiter is set to 7500. Max power output is reched at 7400. Real F1 top speed with factory rev limiter, is 356 kmh. In this video, 375 is indicated, but we must took the analog speedo error. So, this 375 indicated are 355-356 real GPS speed, limited by revs. For the record attempt, they moved in 3 steps limiter to 7800, then 8000, then 8300. Top speed of 391 kmh are at around 8200 rpm, which are critical for engine, which max revs are 8000.
So, real F1 max speed is 356 kmh. All above is pure marketing and city legends.

i actually think the opposite is true, they accelerate pretty similar, little differences at the very beginning and the very end.

yes, but its limited to 231mph by the rev limiter :). the 241mph version had the rev limiter removed
the mclaren is a very capable machine. at 391kmh it probably only had 600hp or less out of the 627hp. set the gear correctly and it could do 400kmh. Then mclaren could have use the mclaren f1 with the LM spec engine 691hp instead, and it might do more than 407kmh. The bugatti veyron would have never set its record!

the guy must have been mistaken or it was a GPS because more than half of the 360-370kmh division was above the needle at 1:32

Enzo have more downforce so the results is normal but McLaren performance really amazing for 10 years older technology
Indeed, and if they would have given it seven gears (which didn't exist at the time) then it was estimated that the top speed would be 400-405 km/h.

Nah it hit 391 kmph at 7800 rpm in 6th beyond the red line. That is max power. It cannot go faster. The American versions of the F1 made only 550 HP and they could have gone faster than they did. But a seventh would be over geared because the 6th itself is very long as it is.

Other cars can accelerate quicker using launch control, modern tyres and paddle gearboxes. If the McLaren F1 had these features, it would still be the fastest accelerating combustion engined car up to 300kmh.

the mclaren is a 3 seater , you can drive with 2 other friend and the enzo produces 12mpg whereas the mclaren f1 averages 15.2mpg.
5mpg which i presume you heard by tiff is the F1 GTR racecar consumption. of course its a lot more.
i said HAD it got rid of the manual clunky gearbox and put in a DSG with 0.05s shifttime.
thats right in theory, however in he real world it would be very difficult for a car with only 805hp to be faster than one with 1350hp, no matter the aerodynamic advantage.
The corvette ZR1 does not have very good drag figures to start with. The tuatara has waay better drag, even though its not as good as the mac's.

The mclarens clunky gearbox was the only thing stopping it destroying it, look at the shift times of both cars!
F1 still won even thou the Enzo I got a head start. Both awesome cars would love just to even see them in real life

McLaren's tacho freezes ad 198 kmh,and there are couple of misshifts on both cars,also F1 can reach at least 385 kmh

The F1 is older than the Enzo, that's podered by BMW (not bad, Because was the "M8 engine") Is The BEST car of S XX and probably the most beautiful With F40lm for me. (The LM spec, of course in the two cars)
No Enzo has driven past 219mph/352kmh, Enzo speedo showing 227mph/366kmh - impossible for engine revs and gearing, with size of tyres.

ive always said get a Biturbo setup on that car to atleast 850hp and let her go for some top end runs it wouldve been sooo fast

mclaren is making a "Big Mac" supercar in 2014, but it only promises to be Veyron Killer with 800hp. By then, the SSC tuatara would be out with 1350hp. =(
@GixxerMPH and that's only because it has a six speed gear box, it's a widely known fact that the F1 is perfectly capable of pulling a 7th gear, when it's doing 390km/h in sixth gear, it's engine is revving past its powerband.

should they reduce the shift times to under 0.1s, a mclaren will beat a veyron 0-100mph, and 0-150mph, (even 0-200mph).
@ASSHOLELA yeh and the 241mph top speed was like 300 rpm above the engines peak power so if the 6th gear had a slightly higher ratio i bet it would have gone maybe 245mph
if you somehow fit in the bugatti's engine in Mclaren f1, it would be impossible to keep the Mclaren on the road......

bugatti gives nothing near 900-1000kgs of downforce. Maybe in handling mode yes but in 420kmh topspeed mode , the downforce is reduced to under 300kmh (Gordon Murray's review of Bugatti Veyron). The topspeed of the bugatti with 1000kg of downforce is 375kmh. The topspeed of mclaren f1 is 391kmh.
I was talking about the high downforce not being equated to low top speed.
They almost equal up to 300 km/h, beyond it, McLaren F1 keeps going while Enzo started to hit the top speed.

Mclaren f1 can well go beyond 250 mph if weight is reduced and gearbox is changed.
I wouldnt dream of adding a turbocharger.

There isn't much difference in the performance considering the mpg these cars do in comparison when Tiff Needell did a test for fifth gear the Enzo returned 15 mpg and the F1 just 6mpg!
I think McLaren should make a new sports car that will top all others again. Imagine the performance of one in these times.
Speedo mph, the McLaren is much quicker than the enzo from 100 mph onwards and even more so above 150mph.
F1 is sat on its 231mph limiter while the enzo is still trying to get there and its recorded speed(as opposed to officially recorded top speed) shows how much more optimistic its speedo is than the McLaren's ;)

The Ferrari is the beginning of electronic easy to drive supercars in my opinion it should not even be compared to a pure non ABS non-power steering no traction control having and of course a real manual transmission car such as the McLaren F1. The history of the McLaren goes right back into the days of when Senna used to drive for honda/mclaren all the way to the NSX and so the history remains. I'm sure all you pretentious individuals who think that the new era of cars are best to do not concern yourself with the real past that made what we have today. Like safety in Formula 1 ,Rest in peace Ayrton Senna I'll be thinking about you when I'm Screamin at 8500 RPM in my NSX one day.

you are very right my friend on that this mclaren engine is very capable but all see veyron like a god,they make a W16 with 2 engines V8 with 1001hp and still mclaren remain the best with the almost half hp but without to put the game the LM 691hp and don t mention it that the engine of BMW was to have 920hp but they concidered a lot and they keep them at 627hp

it hasnt been proven. Never had an F1 raced side by side with a veyron, except in topgaer wherre it was staged.
Anyway, F1 1/4 times range from 10.8s for the LM to 11.4s. Veyron times range from 11.0 to 9.8s. so id say that 20% of the time, a f1 wil beat a veyron in a drag race.
the top gear drag race was staged but in favour of the F1, when they did it for real the Veyron destroyed the F1 so they told Hammond to ease off at the start so it would make a closer race for the viewers
