I'm age 84 and I chose multi-day fasting because I'm interested in autophagy. I water fast for 4 consecutive days once a month. I've also eliminated all grains, grain products, sugar, and starches from my diet. I was diagnosed as a diabetic in 1987 and my A1C is in the low 5s and has never exceeded the 5s. I had prostate cancer and had HIFU treatment in 2019. My blood pressure is good and I have no heart issues. Today I broke my monthly 4 day fast.

One problem.......I had a recent bout with kidney stones and I think it may have been spurred by not drinking enough water during the fasts.

Have you followed Don Layman at all? He claims that older people shouldn't fast too much because they lose too much protein (muscle) during the fast. Do you do any resistance workouts to maintain muscle during or between fasts, @iggyDalrymple?
Also, careful of oxalate containing foods. Very commonly eaten by low carb and keto dieters, and just healthy raw food eaters in general. Spinach, sweet potato, beets, nuts, some fruits, etc. I gave myself a giant kidney stone during my vegetarian years, drinking green smoothies daily and eating bowls of "healthy" salads. And kidney stones are just one of the many issues they can cause. Check out Sally K Norton's interviews and her excellent book!

Definitely no wheat or grains and absolutely no transfats.
      Only good Olive oil.
80% raw diet. Good breakfast and a light early evening meal.

Fasting Ramadan has many benefits. I'll mention the two main ones. One is to practice self discipline, and not be a slave to your desires or temper, since we fast not only from food and water from dawn to dusk, but also abstain from intercourse in the daytime, and are vigilant all month guarding all our senses, our tongue , our mind and heart from what's forbidden or immoral and work harder to be better versions of ourselves, being more patient, caring, forgiving and giving away from our wealth, our time and effort to help and be of service to others in need. Think of it as a yearly retreat, one in which you try to cleanse and purify yourself, strengthening your resolve and elevating yourself spiritually, and its evermore so powerful since you're not doing it alone, you do it with millions of people, like a collective meditation.
Two: is to reap the health benefits from the fast if done properly with light meals as you mentioned when starting and breaking the fast and staying active. It's a major detoxing program. It also reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which helps to lower inflammation and improve blood flow. It helps control weight, improves mood and concentration, increases energy levels, and improves the quality of sleep and much more. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Fast and you will be healthy" and he also encouraged us not to over eat "A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air. '” Some Muslims do this type of fast one or two days a week all year round in addition to the month of Ramadan to maintain the benefits aforementioned.

When we gather, we eat, instead, gather and pray! This Nation and other Nations are in need of much prayer! Fasting, eat within a six to eight hours period...like from 10 a.m to 4 p.m and fast sixteen hours.

The premise is some people may undergo chemotherapy during cancer treatment. In this period you need to eat, cooked food, with varied vegetables, protein, and eliminate unhealthy sugar and carbs . This will ensure the nutrients replenish the strained body. If pre chemotherapy you have time to starve cancer off.

I think a lot of people would find it hard to fast during the day: many would get sleepy or hangry at work, with possible unfortunate consequences, and it's been shown that pupils and students have a harder time concentrating at school, with demonstrable negative results. In the Muslim countries, everyone's on the same page, so allowances are made. I do the night- and morning-fasting routine, eating my last meal of the day at around 6 and not eating again until 12 or 1. I've returned to the weight I was in my teens and twenties (supposedly my ideal weight) and I'm keeping it off with no hassle. (And I eat carbs.)

When I was working, I often did OMAD. So I went all day and all night fasted. I ate between5 and 7 pm. I had no personality deviances.
Of course, children should not be fasted during the day, or any time as a regular practice. Especially with the poor nutrition they receive in America these days.
But I am pretty sure even children couldn't always eat regularly during our evolutionary years. We still survived as a species.

I don't have experience with fasting. But here in our society, we have domestic helpers who come from Indonesia in many families . They have one month dry fasting period in a year. During that time, they do housework as usual. To my surprise, they don't lose much weight after fasting period, some are even fatter. Probably due to their high carb diet. I always think that dry fasting is not so safe especially for elderly .

Soy, corn, wheat, oats, etc. So our environment is going to Hell in a hand basket because of modern farming practices! Do your homework. "Diabetes is the storage of fat in tissues which are not designed to store fat." - Dr. Cyrus Khambatta. And, of course, the fat in question is dietary fat, from both animal sources and processed plant oil (that olive oil you're so enamoured with being surpassed only by coconut oil as inappropriate for consumption) so hyperabundant in the western diet of developed countries.

No disrespect to the Muslim religion, but technically , dawn to dusk fasting is not a true fast, not much hormesis or autophagy is happening when one’s liver is cranking digestion( up to 75% of total body energy expenditure) during sleep cycle. The minimal hormetic effect would be no sort of joy during sunlight hours! As a westerner myself , I have learned my culture views any kind of austerity as a failure, we’re just not wired mentally to do “without” . Now ask yourself, would it be possible for me to exist and post my nonsense on social media , if my ancestors were not forced to endure austerity( true fasting beyond 72 hrs?)
