Dr. Fung is my hero! Post menopausal women CAN lose weight! I'm 60 and lost 160 lbs (!) by following Dr. Fung's videos, lectures and books. I ate/eat LCHF keto and learned how to fast. The transformation has been profound. It reversed ALL my health issues and I'm medication free. I look and feel better than I ever have and have tons of energy. I'm active, swim and am even a lifeguard at our local pools! I did it all on my own, just by watching and learning. I'm maintaining great and loving my fasting lifestyle. I'm so thankful 🥰🙏. Be well! 😊
@@laniesider2586 Hi! It took me about 1.5 years. And I've been maintaining for almost 1.5 years also. I was on blood pressure meds and Albuterol inhalers. Also was supposed to have regular cortisone injections for my osteoarthritis. You can watch my story on The Magic of Fasting RUclips channel 😃👍
Am I the only one who likes a video once Dr. Fung is featured even before I listen to the video???😂 Dr. Fung is a medical genius and I'm so fortunate, like many of us, to have come across him. He has changed my perspective completely. ❤
Yup, NOT the only one.😂😍 I get the warm fuzzies every time I see him featured, because I KNOW not only that it's going to be informative and helpful but that his brand of common sense, humility and integrity will always restore my peace of mind and hope for the future of medicine and for my own health. It's reassuring to know that people like him, even DOCTORS, lol, still exist.
❤As a medical doctor, now retired, I learned so much about metabolism, nutrition and the physiology of metabolism from your video, which was not taught in training and not learned. So tired of calories in, calories out in the logic of people failing diets, that now I can respond with the truth that it’s not calories - a term from physics - but hormones regulating storage and utilization of energy. Thank you
What’s a good low-inflammatory, low/no carb alternative to the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) diet that’s recommended after you’re recovering from a gastrointestinal illness?
Can I ask you, what you think is the deterrent that prevent doctors from looking further into things, like Fung has? would love to know from someone in the industry .
@@Ndnative3431what’s the thinking that they use those ingredients to begin with? If you know what nutrients and why they use them, then you cam work out substitutions yourself.

I just did a 40 hour fast. My husband thinks I'm crazy , but I felt great. Now I am trying to eat enough in my eating window and I am STUFFED! I'm doing alternate day fasting. ❤
@@batgirl1ful It really can change each time but I try to stop eating early around 3 or 4 pm. That way when I hit my goal fasting time, I won't feel so ravenous than if I stopped eating at 7 pm. Then I feel it's too late in the day to break the fast. If that makes sense.
That's a very good point user. I'd think that would help a person transition nicely into IF, & probably not feel as much of the sugar & bad carb withdrawl symptoms. I've fallen off the wagon, so this week I'll start back by first cutting out sugar & the bad carbs.
I have been doing net lo carbs and feeling good. So I’m at 15 hours in house working on cleaning and getting hungry hungry so may call first fast at 15 and be proud and not guilty not more..
Great video! One of the hurdles to IF seems to be ‘unlearning’ what we have been told for many years. I have friends who still quote “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. My reply is that I eat my breakfast at around lunchtime 😂
@@wearemorphus no Kellogg & post here I remember when they pushed the 6 times a day eating, in the early 80s Plus, the Drive thrus... and calorie laden coffees at Starbucks
I would listen to Satchin Panda, Saulk Institute premier circadian rhythm guru. For health, breakfast (food) 1-1.5 hrs after rising, dinner 3-5 hours before one’s 10p bedtime. Lunch optional, can be very light if wanting reduced weight/cal restriction. I have no doubt Jason also bows to the genius of Sachin Panda❤
There are a lot of studies coming out showing intermittent fasting but with circadian rhythm, so you eat breakfast and lunch and no dinner or something like soup.

This is such an important and illuminating video. No hype or frantic gesticulation… just facts. I laughed out loud at Dr. Fung’s analogy of storing firewood for the winter and then chopping up and burning your sofa. It’s still deeply troubling to me how misinformed the medical community is regarding metabolic illness. Thanks for a great video.
The reason why a body would burn muscle instead of fat is because muscle is a metabolically active tissue and requires additional energy. It is conceivable that a body would burn muscle for glucogen because it is trying to reduce amount of tissue that is asking for extra calories and muscle glycogenesis will produce glucose, which is more preferable by the body, especially for those who are metabolically inflexible
@@zorinaganpaul1598 or your body has a metabolic impairment and isn't flexible switching between fuels, or because by dumping metabolically active tissue it decreases it's BMR
Back I come!!!! Did so well on low carbs and IF (even if I had to be fairly drastic about it). Lost pretty much 3 stone in 4 months. Then I let slip and spent the next 6 months breaking all the good habits and undoing all my progress. Self sabotage. SO annoying. Anyway. Starting again. Wish me luck…
Low carb isn't sustainable for most people. Keto is dangerous. Maybe try a Mediterranean diet with zero bad fats? I'm personally eating a low fat plant based diet, not counting carbs at all, no bad fats, no bad carbs. It's delicious, but admittedly I cheat once a month or so with homemade sourdough pizza with light cheese and veggies. And my husband makes sourdough bread, and occasionally have a slice toasted with some good soup. Also check out the Glucose Goddess youtube channel. Keeping your blood sugar under control is important. Many overweight people have insulin resistance, which makes it hard to lose weight.
Thank you so much Kymberly. That feedback means a lot to me!! I will make sure I continue to do so in all my interviews. Appreciate the feedback. xo ~ Andrea
“The body doesn’t run on calories, it runs on hormones” Eating changes our hormones (fat storing). Fasting changes our hormones (fat using). Hold onto this.
Indeed - hold on to this! I'm a retired RN & have heard tons of Dr Fung's videos. They are easy to grasp & factual. What he teaches WORKS ... if, if, if ONE WILL CONSISTENTLY DO IT !
Dr Gundry has a theory about hunger & cravings. He says it’s the bad bacteria (aka, lectins) in our body that ‘tells’ the brain it wants bad food. If we eat a low lectin diet, the cravings will go away and our brains will crave good foods. This has been my experience. Fasting for only a few days gives me loads of energy and the cravings are gone. That combined with intermittent fasting ( I fast for 20 hours a day, eating one snack and a full meal within the remaining four hours) keeps me feeling wonderful. Funny, when you do I.F. You don’t even think about food! Amazing!
As Dr. Gundry explained, lectins are plant proteins that the plant has created to resist being eaten by animals. Gluten is a leptin. Glad a leptin free diet was helpful for people even if they didn't understand what leptins are. What I don't like about Gundry's work is the stuff Gundry sells: stuff you might need if you avoid too many plants! i.e. Essential Reds) Fasting is free. Thank-you Dr. Fung
I fasted for 5 days straight once. I lost my appetite about day 3. The reason I broke the fast was my lack of hunger frightened me. ( I was doing this alone.) I am so glad to understand the hormonal responses around eating. I am so looking forward to implementing this in my life. 😊
@@gsmblue-uk7lb I was in my early 20s, so take that into account. I did not change anything else in my life except not eating and having extra time to do things. I am not an athletic person, but I was doing yoga and aikido at the time. I hope that helps.

I’m over 40 and I followed the advice of a doctor who does not recommend fasting for periods of time during the month/cycle. It didn’t work for me. For me intermittent fasting works when I do it all the time. The moment I prolong my eating window, I don’t feel good, I don’t have as much energy and I put on weight easily. However, what worked for me is eating way more healthy fats and no processed carbs. I think it is so important to listen to the advice but try and test to see what works for us individually.
I'm really glad you shared your experience ---of not isolating the fasting to only certain parts of the cycle. It helps the rest of us to know that maybe we can fast throughout the whole month too!!
She is not one of those. Her knowledge and advice helped me tremendously and it is thanks to her I made many dietary changes I am benefiting from. There are only certain aspects in what she advises that don't work me@@oambitiousone7100
I agree! I am post meno and I’ve had to find what works with my fasting I can’t seem to lose weight when I’m not doing IF and if I open my window too early I’m eating too much so I like a 4-6 hour eating window
Dr. Jason is a great communicator and i love the clear conversation he brings. It makes sense, common sense and seems simple, then you try it, and it is!
Walking for 10-20 after eating can also blunt the insulin spike, according to the woman who wrote Metabolic Revolution. She also lists the Apple cider vinegar drink before meals and having a veggie appetizer before dinner.
Yes walking after you eat can really help. I interviewed Carol Johnston who wrote 2 papers on vinegar blunting the insulin spike after eating. You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/n8LcDXpavMU/видео.htmlsi=WVa9_NQG8fywSzKV.
Maybe talk about why people are fat in the first place? Find the root causes of obesity and depression and fix those. IF can be dangerous. Our bodies need nutrition. Over eating and eating at the wrong times is the problem together with laziness. Get enough exercise and a balanced diet, step away from your TV and phone and practice mindfulness and connect with nature. There's no need to IF or any other FAD. Yes it's a FAD.

It's so interesting how different our bodies can be. For instance, I'm also 5'6", yet at 58 kilos I look & feel too thin. My body is most comfortable at 64-65 kilos, which I used to think was far too much! During my teens & 20's, I was 57-58k, yet after having children, my entire body shape changed. When I look at photos then & now, I truly do look about the same size, overall ~ except my hips & bust are slightly curvier, & waist is a little smaller. I also wear the same dress & pant size then & now. During peri-meno, then menopause, I put on 20 kilos~ errggh! Thankfully, I learned about IF & low carb/higher fat eating, though it took almost 2 yrs to get back to that 65k. I had been extremely low fat/highfiber for decades w/no issues. It wasn't until the hormones began to shift that everything changed. Knowing what I do now, I can say I'm grateful for all of it! The human body is amazing, & will teach us much~ if we're willing to listen. =) ~Samantha in NV/USA
36:00 Starts the conversation of perimenopause and menopause and how fasting affects us. ❤❤❤ Thanks for this video. It's really helpful and inspiring especially when women are struggling with the hormonal changes that we go through. It's a scary time for some of us who are suffering through a time of life where our bodies and minds are changing..from night sweats, weight gain, confusion, dryness, headaches, body aches, terrible sleeping...and it's rough we just want to feel normal again. We have to get used to a whole new person we are not comfortable with.

I went to see my gp about the weight I've put on. 125kg. Who told me I was eating too much and not exercising enough. I honestly don't eat that much. Iasked to see a nutritionist. I kept a food diary. I was brutally honest with the diary. The nutritionist said the problem isn't in my diet. Went back to the gp was told flat out I lied in the diary. I left that gp office because of that interaction with the gp. Cause I may be many things but I'm not a liar
I can relate to that! Avoid almost all carbs and sugars. Try keto, keep your insulin level way down, then you will loose weight! Insulin is the fat storage hormone and it also prevents the release of fat from your fat stores. You cant store and unstore at the same time. Its not a question of calories and excersise, hormones dictate what happens with your food. See also dr. Ben Bikman and others about this. With fasting your insulin level also drops a lot.
O can relate to that too but I am 13 kg over, and I did spent a year eating whatever I wanted after I beat cancer, wasn't wise though as now I carry the extra kilos and really struggle to loose it off 🤷🏼♀️
I'm a female in my thirties. I do intermittent fasting with a 1 to 3 hour eating window most days. It's much easier to keep it this compressed for me. Otherwise I'm tempted to overeat. I do a lot of physical activity, and I never see any problem with my energy levels.
it's impossible to get enough protein in such a short window. You need lot's of protein to stay healthy and strong. Do extend your window to make sure you get enough protein!
I loved intermittent fasting I lost all of the weight I wanted to. My one takeaway in hindsight is that it’s really important to make sure that you get all of your necessary nutrients during your eating window. I got so used to the fasting and I did it for almost a year About 9 months in I noticed I had quite a bit of hair shedding. I suspect I wasn’t getting all of the nutrients I needed even tho I was eating great and the long term practice might have become a little too stressful for my body. I was also getting really bad hot flashes suddenly . I’ve since backed off and just started eating three meals a day again. My hair is growing back and my weight is still good. Hot flashes are gone. I still think intermittent fasting is a great tool. I think I would have not done it as long and perhaps paid more careful attention that I was fitting in enough nutrients.
Can you share your fasting protocol that you did and what you typically eat in a day. I’m 54 and have hard time to loose belly fat. Also I’m in menopause 😔.thank you.
I have heard that for some eating breakfast, skipping LUNCH and eating dinner made the difference in giving the body plenty of time to digest both meals. (Instead of only eating lunch and dinner).
I was in the same boat..I went strict keto for 2 weeks..then 3wks of OMAD..at noon..I would stuff myself with 7 C of organic greens topped with Avacado..eggs..peanuts..cheese..homemade mayo dressing..it took three days for me to be ok with OMAD..I did that for 2 weeks..did a 36hr fast with ZERO stress..coffee only...water with lemon. I lost 25lbs and felt great...now I do 18/6 intermittent fasting and still losing..feel great..2x ek HIIT..im 55 post menopause
Jason is awesome I have followed his journey with fasting and his books are great. Seeing him on your show has inspired me to restart my previous intermittent fasting. I use to be part of his Facebook community which I would recommend it’s hugely motivating and supportive.
This is so true. Especially if you have to taste the food for seasoning purposes. This is why I can't fast for longer than 18hrs. I have to cook dinner for the family, and always end up accidently tasting the food to make sure the seasoning is right and that of course breaks my fast.

Not necessarily. I delay eating upon waking, but prepare food for others. I'm not hungry in the morning anymore, and so if I am not hungry, I don't eat! I can prepare tons of food for others and not eat!!
I just finished my first 96 hour fast. I actually went 97 hours because it worked best fir me and I wasn't STARVING! I worked up to a 96 hour fast. This is a fantastic interview, it's so easily understood. I've been intermittent fasting (IF) for 5 days & started noticing a decrease in belly fat on day 2 and a huge difference on day 5. Questions for the next show: 1. Will IF help to reset/balance hormone levels for menopause? 2. Does IF effect other hormone regulators like the thalamus, pituitary, maybe thyroid, etc...? 3. Has Dr. Fung seen any other benefits from IF such as visual, neurological, coronary, pulmonary, improvements? 4. Does he fast, if so, what's his routine and what changes has he seen? THANK YOUUUUU❤
Very educational this seminar is excellent. Thank you. I especially loved the myth dispelling. Should give continuing education units for medical professionals. Certainly qualifies. ❤. Thank you.
Fasting done wrong will CAUSE hormone problems in some women. I recommend Mindy Pelz women-tailored IF info. All of the most popular IF people in the online community are men. Therefore it’s tailored to be optimal for men, even if it’s inadvertently
For questions 1-4 read his books Obesity & Diabetes Code & complete Guide to Fasting - yes he fasts through breakfast & lunch but likes to eat dinner with family - he notes increased focus and energy to do his work.

I've been doing IF for over a year and LCHF. Didn't really lose any weight until January. Between October and December I gained 10 lbs from binging on fudge covered peppermint cream cookies. Each one was 120 calories! I was eating 6-8 per day! They were very addictive. Beginning in January I got rid of the cookies, continued IF, tried to go 16-18 hours, and I've lost 40 lbs in 9 months. Still want to lose 15-20 more. I'm getting close to 70. I do have trouble eating more than 1000-1100 calories.
Have you tried strength training or using resistance bands to build muscles? This helps you burn body fat by having more muscle, even when sitting still you will burn more when you have more muscle. Building muscle will help increase your appetite so you can eat more protein & fat. More muscles will also keep you strong to keep your balance better, which is so important as we get older. I’m 65, soon to be 66. Strength training and LCHF has helped me to get out of my wheelchair, eventually not even need my walker anymore. Now I only need my cane, but only when I leave the house, just so people don’t accidentally knock me over in crowded spaces.
Even Jillian Michaels says when she goes into menopause, she will simply eat less and move more. So annoying.., this is why social media is ruining our lives.

I am looking forward to re-implementing this tool into my daily routine. I can't remember why I ever stopped [perimenopausal; no cessation]. Thank you for providing the platform for Dr Fung to share his wealth of information. God Bless you both. Be well.
I would have liked to have heard Dr Fung’s opinion on the notion of zero calories spiking cortisol in perimenopausal women. Raised cortisol also = fat storage
yes exactly... when in peri- men I had a lot of success with i.f., lost 60lbs ish, it came back on after holding fairly easily for couple years or longer. I started moving twds menopause, had some success again with proper keto/ OMAD and finger stick testing ( ketone/ glucose). I did want to get back to where I had been b4 lockdowns ( I had given up a couple exercise classes a week, I used to pay for). I did dr Boz style 3 day fasts for 15 weeks, ( 72 hrs fasts in each week for 8, then 36 to 48hrs in the next 7 weeks) got right down again... but then started to add carbs. this was bcos I had extreme anxiety! ( which carbs solved). I think its a cortisol issue... you need cortisol to make ketones, am I right?). anyway, I also had some hair loss in those fasts, I think it was too often for the 72 hr ones. since then, I noticed I started with anxiety even going beyond 24hrs. ( maybe the body goes " uh-oh, not that again?!") so yes, I'm menopausal now, maybe something cortisol-y was going on. I fast easily, (sometimes fatty coffee or just mct c8), more usually black coff, and acv with fizzy water ( salt, sometimes half lemon juice). studied paleo, primal blueprint etc for years since being a lo fat dieter in 80s, learnt from dr fung's books, mark sisson, phinney & volek, delauer, Berry, boz, mason, dr mindy, Anna cabeca etc etc. have done cgm for 1.5 months just now... walking seemed to flatten it, and general lowering, along with low GI real food omad or 2mad
Hi Dr Fung, I just finished a 3day water only fast, now I'm doing OMAD, I'm so happy lost 4kg in this 3 days, what I've noticed is I suffered plantar facia had this severe pain in my calves, now when I massage my calves and heel the pain in my calves are gone plus I use to feel the muscle being so big but now I don't and it's painfree ,my heel however a little bit pain but not as bad as before, so I believe the fasting helped another, I'm planning on doing the 3day water fast once a month.love listening to you, take care and Thank you

I am ashamed of the fact that I, and many colleagues in the school system, used to judge this in the Muslim community during their fasting.... We are so focused on food as a Canadian ... that was very helpful. I frequently watch Dr. Fung's videos, but I found this uniquely illuminating, probably because he had the time to explain in depth. thanx.
Jason Fung cuts through all the myths. He is the expert on fasting. His books are so full of common sense. This way of losing weight makes so much sense. I understand that if your on a lot of meds you may have difficulty as the medication itself will need adjustment. But that is a good thing. I would prefer to fasting to medicines. Love this talk.
Yep, that’s why I came to this video. Lost an potential subscriber because there was nothing new in this video. Really wanted to learn how fasting is different for peri and menopausal women. Click bated wether intentional or not by the channel…they intentionally kept the title.
I did 3 weeks weight loss program, focused on sleeping well, eating whole food, no snacking and exercising. I did lose 8 lbs but the portion control killed me. Afterwards I ate larger portions put on 4lbs but still kept 4lbs initial weight lost. I think I’m going to incorporate IF and eat high protein diet for a while- the idea of eating until I’m stuffed satisfied me. It’s so hard to lose 4-5 kg when u hit perimenopause. I’m trying to find my balance where I can lose weight and keep it off. I’m emotional eater too so this doesn’t help. Trying to regulate my hormones better. It’s not easy when u no one telling u the right magic formula on what to do. I’m trying to learn about my hormones from RUclips. Thanks so much for informative video 🙏 I love Dr Fung ❤
Andrea and Dr Fung, Thank you! Such a wealth of information. 🎉 I'm 56 and started an ADF protocol in mid-May. The weight loss has been slow but for me that's a good thing 😊 the other multiple benefits of fasting is the treasure chest. The weight loss is a nice byproduct of fasting. 🙏🏽 Thanks to you both!!!
I so agree with you Maria. Many people just focus on the weight loss, but the other health benefits are amazing, especially for us perimenopausal and menopausal women. ~ Andrea
I started low carb/high fat with occasional IF at 47. I lost all the weight, reversed all my health conditions, stabilized my moods, got my brain back, sleep great and have all the energy I need. That I had to do this against my doctors advice is tragic and most women my age think I have “great genes”.
Question for the show: I did a 3 day fast. In the early evening on day 2 my legs started getting really sore in the muscles, and my lower back became sore, too. I had a little trouble sleeping. On day 3 it got much worse, and I was googling if this is common. I had no problems with OMAD or even a 2 day fast. It seems it happens to a lot of folks, but I couldn’t find anything scientific or proven to cause this, and only advice was to stretch your muscles, walk, take more Magnesium, and take Epsom Salt baths. I did increase my electrolytes, and did all of the above, but didn’t help very much at all. I’m sitting in a clinic right now to get lab ordered and make sure my kidney and liver function are good, and I’m not low on electrolytes. I could not find any videos on this problem by Dr. Fung or any of the other Drs. who teach on IF. The soreness is pretty profound! Thank you!
I did a 10 day (guided) water fast in March and was told (and experienced it myself) that day 3 tends to be the hardest. Everyone experiences it differently, depending on what’s going on for you. Worth having it looked into but of you can get through day 3, it does tend to get easier.
He did talk about it on one video I watched that mentioned as you heal sometimes you will experience the garbage coming out of your body. This happens during traditional diets too. Might be what it is.
I lost 6 kilos, went into ketosis but ended up in the ER after doing keto then carnivore diet for 3 months. It screwed up my hormones, made my insulin levels much worse and made me lose my last estrogen reserves that were in my fat cells. My thyroid went crazy. Met a few other women (peri menopause and post menopause) who also ended at the ER after doing low carb, high fat diet. No one ever talks about the stress a very low carb can have on our female body. I felt great while on it but it was due to my body being stressed and pumping out high cortisol. Hormones need some glucose. Especially thyroid and especially older menopausal women. Best to try with professional medical supervision in case your body can't handle the ketosis.
@kimbodacat: I’m not a big fan of low carb. I see another gal came out with a book called Fast Like a Girl. It talks a lot about women’s hormones and how to navigate fasting. I’m going to check it out. I also went into full menopause on another diet I was on. Mostly low carb. Craziness.
I was had been IF for about a year and was told that because of my age (58) that it was not a good idea because of my hormones, or lack of…hoping that this issue is addressed
Turning 36 was tough for me. I put on an additional 35 pounds on top of being overweight and the weight is NOT coming off. I’m putting all of Dr. Fung’s guidelines immediately into practice
Hey! When I turned 37, I all of a sudden became overweight. I never had to worry about dieting, or any of that, all my life... even during all 3 of my pregnancies. It all caught up to me in my late 30s. I just figured, well I'm old now so I guess it is what it is. WRONG. I just turned 43 in July, and that is when I decided it was time to actually try and change. So on October 16th, it will be exactly 3 months since I started. As of yesterday, I have lost 32 pounds. I started with completely cutting out all pop. After a week or 2, I started eating a lot better. Then I started working out 30 to 40 minutes every single day. After I was used to all of that is when I started the fasting. I started with 12 hrs, then slowly worked up to 16. I just am now doing 18 hrs a day, started this week. Start with one thing at a time so it is not so overwhelming. It really actually does work! Also, you should check out "growwithjo" on RUclips and try her workouts. They are so easy but do effective!!! I can't wait to see what I will look like in another 2 months! It is so exciting, and not too hard, if I can do it, trust me, anyone can. You got this!
36 was tough for me too. I’m 42 now and ballooned up to 250 pounds in the last 6 year. But with ketovore and IF, I have lost 65 pounds in 7 months. I’m starting to feel like myself again.
I wish I had seen this earlier, I would have liked to hear Dr Fung's views on Dr Mindy Pelz approach to Fasting and Menopause. Perhaps something for a future discussion.
What is your opinion on thyroid meds and fasting? Specifically a T3/T4 combo medication. Everyone in my thyroid groups say fasting is bad with thyroid issues in these meds as they need glucose to work. Trying to figure this all out.
This was an excellent, informative video. Thank you. The only thing I wish you touched up on is.... metabolism. So I don't have to eat a certain amount of calories per day in order to not wreck my metabolism? I'm still confused about that. I am a 49 year old woman who just started to get hot flashes this year.
"So I don't have to eat a certain amount of calories per day in order to not wreck metabolism?" Is a great question and is something I'm also very concerned about. Yes, please address that in a near future video!
I think that IF is a good idea for most people, but if you already suffer from Insulin resistance, Mitochondria issues, type 2 D, HBP, Chronic Inflammation, Hyperinsulinemia, obesity and all the other problems that come with IR, then intermittent fasting may not enough. It certainly isn't for me. Entering extending states of Autophagy was and still is the only answer for me. I will do IF for a time but then come off for three days for each day on IF. Water-sea salt- unflavored electrolyte only 2 years in, 61 years of age, male, started at 325 lbs, could barely walk, was a walking anytime future heart attack/stroke victim in the making, turned many bio markers around, but it will take years to turn it all around. Now I am 205. BTW, YT has crossed out a lot of my post so they appear to be censoring information that help people get healthy.
I noticed how the interviewer kept asking Dr. Fung about fasting & impacts on menopausal women, but wasn't getting really concrete answers. Who you really need to interview is Dr. Mindy Peltz, author of "Fasting Like A Girl". Not only is she brilliant and has charisma/charm for days, but she's also a 50+ year old woman.
Thank you for posting this!!! You just saved me time. I won’t continue watching this because I need a direct answer fast. I’ve been watching Dr. Mindy and I will review her vids again. 🙏
If I get hungry after my last meal, I drink my lemon water or water, or black coffee with MCT oil or a little butter in my black coffee, or bone broth. I fast for 16 hours. I try to have my lady meal around 6 or 7 p.m., and I try to have my breakfast around 10 or 11 a.m. I am asleep during most of my fasting so it's not difficult to do, plus I have been doing this for several years. I do 16/8, and I try to maintain an exercise routine, mainly walking and light weights. I do not run. If I can do it....anyone can. I never do a 3 or 4 day fast. It's just not something I need or need to do. I started my fast with 12/12, then increased by an hour or two until I felt comfortable doing 16/8 routine. I have done OMAD, very rarely, maybe the day after Thanksgiving or any big holiday.
What do you suggest for a postmenopausal woman who did everything that Dr Fung instructed and still didn't lose 1 lb? So frustrating and sad to try so hard and get nowhere 😞
One positive of IF is the possibility of resolving health issues, some of which you may be taking medication for. Until this happens, do you just change the time you take the medications that require to be taken with food? Is there a danger in changing the time medication is taken?
So true. Fasting is amazing. I have done many different fasts. A 40-day was my longest, and, yes, after day 3, it was smooth sailing. I never felt hungry, continued working out(CrossFit 3x/wk, weight training, walks) and never lost muscle. In fact, I hit a few PRs. Yes, I lost some weight, but the best part was all the healing: improved eyesight, mental clarity, eliminated inflammation in joints, increased sense of hearing and taste, felt happy and could focus better. It didn't touch my sleep, though... still at about 4 hrs/night...

1:45 AM. EST. Florida. I've just listened to Dr. Jung for three lectures online this evening. As an over weight 80 year old pre-diabetic female I plan to start applying this newly learned information about insulin and intermittent fasting immediately. Rethinking going on the Doctor recommended weight loss injections. Thank you Dr Jung for sharing your knowledge.
I'm in my 60s and intermittent fasting - it's the only diet that has worked for me because it makes sense to me. Was interesting to see this talk about pre-menopause and menopause but no mention of the impact of cortisol? Did we solve this issue and I missed it? Or is it called something else now (I never knew about satiety hormones, so maybe cortisol is something else now)? I'll do a little digging now for myself.
It (diet ie ketosis)made my cortisol levels spike so high that it was thought I had suddenly developed cushings disease or had an adrenal tumor. It can put undue stress on the body. High cortisol can make you feel amazing, so some ppl think it's the diet but it can also be adrenal stress.
Dr. Jamnadas (he''s on youtube), says to put a pinch of sea salt in a bottle of water and sip on it if you are lightheaded (I find it works to curb hunger also). The salt water gives you electrolytes. He also says if a patient stops losing weight; if he can get them to do a three day fast they will start losing weight again.
What other questions would you like me to ask Dr. Fung in a future interview? Please share.
What about the idea of 'srarvation mode' and metabolism slowing causing you to store and hold on to fat due to not eat [often] enough.

A tip to move into fasting is to completely avoid processed food including sugar and carbs for at least a week prior to implementing fasting.
That's a very good point user. I'd think that would help a person transition nicely into IF, & probably not feel as much of the sugar & bad carb withdrawl symptoms. I've fallen off the wagon, so this week I'll start back by first cutting out sugar & the bad carbs.
I have avoided sugar and flour for almost 2 yrs and did my first 24 hr fast yesterday. Just finished my dinner and feel really good. I’m a convert.
Yes, I feel it's necessary to ease into it, and I felt less withdrawal when I prepared for it.
Yes I always roll out of gin & burgers & cake into a fast! 🤣👌

We loved that analogy too.

“The body doesn’t run on calories, it runs on hormones”
Eating changes our hormones (fat storing).
Fasting changes our hormones (fat using).
Hold onto this.
Love that you took this away from our interview.💙
Indeed - hold on to this! I'm a retired RN & have heard tons of Dr Fung's videos. They are easy to grasp & factual. What he teaches WORKS ... if, if, if ONE WILL CONSISTENTLY DO IT !
Spiral mystic sounds like Daria to me😂😂😂😂😂
Dr Gundry has a theory about hunger & cravings. Amazing!
I agree lzrd. Gundry teaching us to avoid leptins in our diet is vital.
Excellent enjoyed it immensely
Aka lectins? Lectins are not bacteria, much less good or bad??? You have completely missed Gundry’s point on why lectins are bad 😂

What fluids do you drink during your fast?
I’m over 40 and I followed the advice of a doctor who does not recommend fasting for periods of time during the month/cycle. It didn’t work for me. For me intermittent fasting works when I do it all the time. The moment I prolong my eating window, I don’t feel good, I don’t have as much energy and I put on weight easily. However, what worked for me is eating way more healthy fats and no processed carbs. I think it is so important to listen to the advice but try and test to see what works for us individually.

Walking for 10-20 after eating can also blunt the insulin spike, according to the woman who wrote Metabolic Revolution. She also lists the Apple cider vinegar drink before meals and having a veggie appetizer before dinner.

Maybe talk about why people are fat in the first place? Find the root causes of obesity and depression and fix those. IF can be dangerous. Our bodies need nutrition. How much do you walk?

Hormones. That doctor sucks.
You put on 125kg of what? 🤔
O can relate to that too but I am 13 kg over, and I did spent a year eating whatever I wanted after I beat cancer, wasn't wise though as now I carry the extra kilos and really struggle to loose it off 🤷🏼♀️

Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful for me
This happened to me and its because fasting can cause oestrogen fluctuation. Also fat stores oestrogen. Less oestrogen = less hair.
Can you share your fasting protocol that you did and what you typically eat in a day. I’m 54 and have hard time to loose belly fat. Also I’m in menopause 😔.thank you.

It can be difficult to maintain your fast when you have to prepare food for other people. Easier when you can stay away from the smell of food
That makes sense Denise. Can you keep a cup of herbal tea next to you and sip on it when you feel hungry during your fast?
This is so true. Especially if you have to taste the food for seasoning purposes. This is why I can't fast for longer than 18hrs. I have to cook dinner for the family, and always end up accidently tasting the food to make sure the seasoning is right and that of course breaks my fast.
Prepare it when you in eating window.
@@ChuckruuOrthodox Jews prepare their food ahead of the Sabbath because they are not supposed to cook in that period. So meal prepping is a good way to reduce temptations during a fast
I also planned in advance for setting myself up for success through the process. I ate a lot of protein going into my fast. Even after 2 days after the fast, my ketone numbers were very good! I am perimenopausal and changing my journey compared to my friend's stories.
So u eat nothing for 4 days Do u just drink water and take vitamins
No one talks about SURGICAL MENOPAUSE. My sister at 40 and me at 46. I had been in peri 😂menopausal for 6+ yrs prior. I was on bio identical estradiol, no progesterone or testosterone. During the yrs for the last 7 years, no hormones. Too many issues to talk about but please add us into the mix!!
Hi. I've done a few interviews on surgical menopause. Here they are: ruclips.net/video/-ITn6zEn488/видео.htmlsi=jQg7_bCHeGV0CxTT and: ruclips.net/video/wg9AHuNzmG4/видео.html. I will be doing more as well. 💙
Great interview! Dr. Fung is the best. He’s an independent thinker who is courageous enough to share his ideas. I hope his thinking becomes mainstream one day.
He really is great. I hope so too. ~ Andrea
This is THE BEST VIDEO I HAVE EVER WATCHED!!!!! I’m in perimenopause, have been going to medical professionals that talk about calories in calories out, burn more than you consume and I feel more fatter. 😢 BUT NOW, I will try the extended fast to tap into the stored fat . The way Dr Fung explained this idea slowly, clearly, and eloquently, made me have a light bulb moment!!!! ❤❤❤❤ Now I have direction of what to do! I spent money on TRT, now I paid 3 months of TIRZEPATIDE, never once did anyone explain how to “tap into the body fat”. I will finish the TRT and TIRZEPATIDE and use it to my advantage with extended fasts AND tips that Dr Fung mentions.🙏🏽👍🏽THANK YOU DR FUNG , and thank you for this interview!
Jesus bless everyone watching
I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed my interview with Dr. Fung! That makes me so happy. Keep me posted on how it works for you. And if you have any questions about peri, I am here. ~ Andrea, Co-founder Morphus
This is a fantastic interview, it's so easily understood. I've been intermittent fasting (IF) for 5 days & started noticing a decrease in belly fat on day 2 and a huge difference on day 5.
Questions for the next show:
NOTED all of your questions. THANK YOU for the kind words and comment. 💙 ~ Andrea xo
For questions 1-4 read his books Obesity & Diabetes Code & complete Guide to Fasting - yes he fasts through breakfast & lunch but likes to eat dinner with family - he notes increased focus and energy to do his work.
great questions!
I am so glad I found your channel today. You asked all the right questions and most importantly: allowed the expert the time to answer without interruptions. Can’t wait to watch your other videos. This one of the best videos I have watched of Doctor Fung, thanks to you😊
Bravo, Andrea! My first time visiting Morpheus and you’re interviewing my favourite Canadian Doctor! Thanks for asking the great questions and letting him speak :)
😮
Have you tried strength training or using resistance bands to build muscles? This helps you burn body fat by having more muscle, even when sitting still you will burn more when you have more muscle. Building muscle will help increase your appetite so you can eat more protein & fat. More muscles will also keep you strong to keep your balance better, which is so important as we get older. I’m 65, soon to be 66. Strength training and LCHF has helped me to get out of my wheelchair, eventually not even need my walker anymore. Now I only need my cane, but only when I leave the house, just so people don’t accidentally knock me over in crowded spaces.
what do you eat when you break fasting at midday?
Even Jillian Michaels says when she goes into menopause, she will simply eat less and move more. So annoying.., this is why social media is ruining our lives.
The key is finding experts you trust who are IN menopause so they know first hand what's working. Thanks for sharing.
Jillian Michael's makes money on the fitness industry, so it's not surprising she says that. Wonder if she's still saying that 😂
August 8 2023 Maryland: Andrea and Dr Fung this is the very first an informative talk of intermittenting fasting I have found so sensible and demistifying some of the nonsese out there. I just started with the intermittent fasting a month ago and found as noted it is flexible, free and makes sense. Thank you, Andrea, for having a professional to this discussion.
Thank you so much Bernadette! That is so kind of you to say. I'd love to hear how your IF journey progresses. Keep me posted. xo ~ Andrea
Great video. Thank you. I can listen to Dr Fung all day long. His content is great. He doesn’t complicate things.
You’re welcome. I agree. He’s easy to listen to.
I am looking forward to re-implementing this tool into my daily routine. I can't remember why I ever stopped [perimenopausal; no cessation]. Thank you for providing the platform for Dr Fung to share his wealth of information. God Bless you both. Be well.
Thank you so much! You're welcome. I have a ton of videos on menopause on my page and on my podcast, Menopause Reimagined.💙
I absolutely love Dr Fung because he is the first doctor that I have heard explain IF & weight loss that actually makes sense! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! He does explain it really well.
I’ve heard countless videos about the importance of intermittent fasting but I’m now a believer thanks to this video. Thank you!
Watch all Dr Jason Fung video
Yes. Me too. It made sense the way he explained it
I'm so happy you enjoyed our interview.
So happy to hear that!
I would have liked to have heard Dr Fung’s opinion on the notion of zero calories spiking cortisol in perimenopausal women. Raised cortisol also = fat storage
RUclips Dr. Mindy Pelz. She covers that. Also, her book “Fast like a girl”
yes exactly... when in peri- men I had a lot of success with i.f., lost 60lbs ish, it came back on after holding fairly easily for couple years or longer.
I asked Dr. Fung for a follow up interview so I will ask him when we speak again. Stay tuned... xo
@@CL-he4jz Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I too am in menopause.
High cortisol is a big issue for me (anxiety, insomnia). Prolonged fasts I can’t sleep.
We’re warned - no sleep, you’ll store fat!
Hi Dr Fung, I just finished a 3day water only fast, now I'm doing OMAD, I'm so happy lost 4kg in this 3 days, what I've noticed is I suffered plantar facia had this severe pain in my calves, now when I massage my calves and heel the pain in my calves are gone plus I use to feel the muscle being so big but now I don't and it's painfree ,my heel however a little bit pain but not as bad as before, so I believe the fasting helped another, I'm planning on doing the 3day water fast once a month.love listening to you, take care and Thank you
Sounds like a lacking electrolyte issue. I use LMNT for that
What is OMAD?
The biggest promoters of the “calorie” concept is the food industry. Particularly the diet food industry.
I really enjoyed this interview. I've just started intermittent fasting and I love that he just stated facts, not a load of medical mumbo-jumbo which I don't understand and just switch off👍
I love hearing that Linda. I try to ensure the people I interview keep it on the simple side since I get lost too when it is over my head. xo ~ Andrea
Exactly. He is a doctor and still can explain complicated concepts in a way we can understand. I think is funny when people/influencers (not doctors) on RUclips feel they have to load their videos with mumbo-jumbo to make a point . I run off immediately.
I am ashamed of the fact that I, and many colleagues in the school system, used to judge this in the Muslim community during their fasting.... We are so focused on food as a Canadian ... I love that I know better now.i personally have always been curious about nutrition and this is the ultimate treasure for me. I do omad 4 days a week... Menopause is not kicking my butt any more ❤thank you Dr Fung
What is omad?
@@Shananana99 Omad stands for (O)ne (M)eal (A) (D)ay.

So informative. You both have really clarified ways & benefits of fasting. Thanks, Jane, nurse & acupuncturist
Thank you so much Jane. I really appreciate your feedback. That means a lot to me as I interview many people in the health and wellness space. ~ Andrea

Dr. Fung’s work has changed my life! Also Fast. Feast. Repeat. By Gin Stephens is my fasting guide. I’m forever thankful for Dr. Fung & Gin ! I lost all my post menopausal weight and reversed my Hashimoto thyroid disease. ❤

Hands down the best interview on intermittent fasting I’ve heard!
I love the easy to understand way that he explains everything
Agreed! He is super down to earth and makes learning fun. Happy you enjoyed our interview. xo
I am doing since November I am a small person so it’s not make much difference but my health report came out so good so it’s working for me
Fantastic to hear! I am so happy to hear about the health report...that really shows you the power of IF.
Wonderful interview. I absolutely love dr. Fung, he knows what he’s talking about. Thank you for such a wonderful video. I’m a 52 yr old woman, who’s going through perimenopause with all the changes that I sometimes don’t even understand. I just started intermittent fasting and I love it, although it’s definitely very hard at first. Would you make a video about the types of vitamins we should be taking in this stage of our lives. Thank you for letting dr. Fung talk and not interrupt him. Very well done. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your feedback on the interview and my interview style. Much appreciated! Yes, I can make a video on what supplements to take. My website has a lot of information as well: www.wearemorphus.com. xo
Thank you for highlighting the connection between menopause and food. ❤
You are welcome! 💙
that was very helpful. I frequently watch Dr. Fung's videos, but I found this uniquely illuminating, probably because he had the time to explain in depth. thanx.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind/positive feedback. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Love Dr Fung. I hang on every word he says. 😊
I like him too. He is also a nice man.🙂
Jason Fung cuts through all the myths.
He is the expert on fasting.
His books are so full of common sense. This way of losing weight makes so much sense.
I understand that if your on a lot of meds you may have difficulty as the medication itself will need adjustment.
But that is a good thing. I would prefer to fasting to medicines.
Love this talk.
Great video
I would appreciate that they talked more about menopause peri menopause since that was the title of the video
I will keep that in mind for my next interview on IF Milly. Thank you for the feedback. :) ~ Andrea, Co-founder www.wearemorphus.com
Yep, that’s why I came to this video. Lost an potential subscriber because there was nothing new in this video. Really wanted to learn how fasting is different for peri and menopausal women. Click bated wether intentional or not by the channel…they intentionally kept the title.
Check out Dr. Mindy Pelz. She wrote Fast Like A Girl. It’s all about women and all of the different stages of life when it comes to Fasting.
Thanks for heads up.. I was thinking it's more the same. You saved me an hour.
Great conversation, no hype just information.
Thank you. 💙
You're very welcome.
I so agree with you Maria. Many people just focus on the weight loss, but the other health benefits are amazing, especially for us perimenopausal and menopausal women. ~ Andrea
Very good questions and extremely interesting answers. I had a ton of information on the issues I was always wondering about. Thanks to both of you!
Thank you so much for your feedback Susan. I really appreciate the kind words. 💙
@wearemorphus I would to see have dr.mindy pelz as your guests about fasting and women hormones
I started low carb/high fat with occasional IF at 47. I lost all the weight, reversed all my health conditions, stabilized my moods, got my brain back, sleep great and have all the energy I need. That I had to do this against my doctors advice is tragic and most women my age think I have “great genes”.
Well stated
Very informative. He answered all my questions about how to eat (ie. the order of eating etc.) that I have not been able to find elsewhere
Look up the Glucose Revolution or Glucose Goddess Jessie will give you the order of eating so your glucose spikes are lower.
Thank you so much Dr. Fung for sharing about Fasting…Thank you Andrea for inviting him .
Thank you for watching my interview Mary. :-) ~ Andrea
Thank you!
Are you taking a statin? They gave me horrid cramps and brain fog so I stopped - I also take 300mg magnesium citrate before bed - no more cramps!
Any update? I’m rooting for you!
@@juliecallahan lost 10 lbs!
36 was tough for me too. I’m 42 now and ballooned up to 250 pounds in the last 6 year. But with ketovore and IF, I have lost 65 pounds in 7 months. I’m starting to feel like myself again.
Please keep us posted so we can support you ❤
Thank you so much Dr Fung for demistifying all of the BS. Your approach and no nonsense language is so refreshing. We need more people like you.
I wish I had seen this earlier, I would have liked to hear Dr Fung's views on Dr Mindy Pelz approach to Fasting and Menopause. Perhaps something for a future discussion.
Yes I like that idea!
What is your opinion on thyroid meds and fasting? Specifically a T3/T4 combo medication. Everyone in my thyroid groups say fasting is bad with thyroid issues in these meds as they need glucose to work. Trying to figure this all out.
Dr Berg talks about this . Watch his videos
He mentions thyroid at 1:04 in this video
Fasting has become my wellbeing basic state…eating is for me an annoying commitment as a Chemotherapy session
Fasting is certainly Biblical! A little self-denial can be mentally and spiritually healthy as well as physically.
Thanks Joan.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I will take note and ask him that question when I interview him next.💙
"So I don't have to eat a certain amount of calories per day in order to not wreck metabolism?" Is a great question and is something I'm also very concerned about. Yes, please address that in a near future video!
The Fungster!!! The OG of Fasting! Dr Fung is the best !😊
He really is! I loved interviewing him.
What you did is EXTENDED IF so you did IF and it worked!
I have interviewed Mindy in the past. I will reach out to her again. Thanks for the suggestion! ~ Andrea, Co-founder, www.wearemorphus.com
Agreed. They both offer knowledge on the subject with a lot of crossover, and yes, Dr. Mindy does focus on women and our hormones compared to men
This is the comment I was searching for!
Yes, no answer about menopausal fasting.
Always good to hear a recap from you Dr Fung ‼️👍
What do you suggest for a postmenopausal woman who did everything that Dr Fung instructed and still didn't lose 1 lb? So frustrating and sad to try so hard and get nowhere 😞
Mind blown!! This was awesome!! Thank you for the interview Andrea! Thank you Dr. Fung!!
You're welcome Sheri! Appreciate the kind words. ~ Andrea, Co-founder, www.wearemorphus.com
One positive of IF is the possibility of resolving health issues, some of which you may be taking medication for. Until this happens, do you just change the time you take the medications that require to be taken with food? Is there a danger in changing the time medication is taken?
I love Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Pradip Jamnadas 🙏
Would like to ask if fasting (OMAD) causes massive hair fallout in menopause , or is it nutrition-based

1:45 AM. EST.
I respect this doctor immensely thank you for having him on
I agree! I do omad at work and never feel tired or hungry but If I do eat something I feel tired by 12:00.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing Unita.
Thanks for sharing Pamela. I will check him out. ~ Andrea, Host and Co-founder, www.wearemorphus.com
