I use to do that very thing in the 80s. Cheap K-Mart inflatable raft, Zebco UL-3 underspin, and several Rapala floating minnows.... aside from a sore tail, from crashing into rocks in the shallows, it made for an awesome day of fishing. Great video my friend!!

Now you're in my neck of the woods! :) Try the lower end of Tellico River at the backwaters of Tellico Lake when the White Bass start to run...around the time the Dogwoods start to bloom.
What a river! Just the size, where its not too big and you can still expect good fishes. But the clearness of the water is astonishing. Pure jealousy here in germany! :O)
Tip from an old whitewater kayaker: get scotch brite scrub pads, large ones are best. Use spray adhesive and glue the pad to the bottom of your shoes, no more slipping on slick rocks
That part of the hiwassee is awesome in the morning and late afternoon, love that area been there several times and landed some really nice smallies and large mouths as well as trout. Keep it up John and hope to catch you in some live action lol

I went up there last Friday for a few hours, and got skunked, it was depressing lol, the first time that's happened to me since I started going up there. It's still one of my favorite places to go I've found yet though. You describe it perfectly, especially as you go further above the powerhouse, you can be wading in six inches of water and all of the sudden not pay attention and be in over your head. It reminds me of the Nolichucky River in Unicoi County, TN it is a lot like that. Nice smallmouth in the deep hole there, I love that area. Great video!
In all seriousness, you've given me an idea; one of the rivers I fish here, the Tangipahoa, used to be known for tubing. The state shut down tubing there in the 80s, because the surrounding dairy farms jacked up the bacteria levels. I know that you can get a tube, with a canvas seat, somewhere. I could use a setup like that on larger rivers, where there are some deep holes that just can't be waded.

The success I have had with their Hellgrammites would give me confidence enough to try them. Wish I could get some time off to be able to go explore the kinds of places you do.
