  • There's a lot of buzz around the Toyota GR Yaris right now. Does the GR Yaris deserve all the fuss? Is it value for money? Is is beneath Mark's dignity to sit in a 3-cylinder shopping trolley? Let's take it for a spirited fang on some twisty Australian roads and find out what this litle turbo hatchback is really like. Real race driver, real roads, real review.

Great review guys :) I have a circuit pack here in the UK, certainly one of the best cars I've owned, suspension is perfect for the rather rough B roads we have here. Also, (plastic parts on the one you were testing, are open vents in the circuit pack, to cool the brakes) so does look better.

@@grumpystu that is probably impossible, since there is echo too and it's different for each mic! I would try to use 1 for each person and maybe one for ambient. But the person mics should be gained so that the pic up only the voices. So much for theory ;-) if that doesn't work just one for the one person and the ambient one closer to the other person.

It raises the mirror by around 25mm and does result in a slightly shorter visible distance through the rear window but on a flat road, I can still see a good 150m behind me. My seating position now needs to come down another 40-50mm and my eyeline will be right between the screen and the mirror but I've got to work out an option there.

@@hsvracer Hi Nathan, (Mark and Stu). Really enjoyed watching this and the other video of your gr4 vs an older 911 for similar price comparison.
Will you be changing the stock dunlops early for better u/uhp tyres such as the ps4s's or Goodyear f1 supersports whilst keeping same wheel size? Would be very interesting to see/hear your opinions regarding improvements of the grip/less understeer for wet and dry conditions in a second great video! Effectively closing the gap in dynamics between the normal and Circuit pack/rallye.
I have a vested interest. Test drove Circuit in uk 3 times, no base/convenience to try at the time unfortunately. After much research and debating I ordered the Convenience pack, my reasoning being that the visibility is gr4's achilles heal! Convenience also gets parking sensors front and rear in the UK, along with the blind spot monitors and rear cross traffic emergency braking. In uk, Circuit gets none of the above!
I personally believe that for the road only and keeping esp mostly on, diffs won't be missed and the suspension will be better as a daily. Thanks

@@James-RJM @James Morphew Hey James, glad you've enjoyed the vids my little GR has been in. I am already looking at slightly wider wheels (9") and would love to go with 255 Michelin PS4 or PS4S but the latter is not yet available in Australia in 18" sizing but I'm told is not far away. Unfortunately, Michelin availability here in Oz has been patchy at best, since COVID kicked off, so I'll see what I can get. I truly expected the Dunlops to be complete rubbish but with this package, they work quite well. Changing the wheels is not just about width, stance or aesthetics but the factory wheels are ~$2400 EACH here and my daughter will start to learn how to drive in it in May 😬 If she curbs cheaper wheels, I won't cry so much.
The base model available here is a weird mix of your options. No front or rear parking sensors but a backup camera, heads up display, lane keep assist and all the other electronic nannies.
As its my daily, I couldn't justify the extra $11k that would only see proper use for about 2% of the driving it will do. It certainly ticks my fun and comfort boxes.
