No wooden dummy. I use the ornate bars on my porch...seems to work...imaginary points are my Tai Chi movement in normal shifts so my arms and hands enter through the metal curling parts and I move my body into line with hand and arm movements. No name for my style...living in urban areas, lots of bars supporting porches work pretty well. Had built arms out of wood and bungees, but took it down since it looked a bit tacky, but I got my skill set anyway...faster hands and when I back away, freestyle training on my own...no sensei no dojo do I go to...I train at home on my solo own...started with learning Tai Chi, however...very functional and I do not fight anyone, anywhere. Gives me energy when I feel a bit tired this that I do. Flat footed squats stretch my connective tissue so I rest squatting low. 67 years old...very interesting using a dummy. By any means available here....works well. Whatever you call it...mine's mine. Thanks for the instructional video here...very informative.

I know I'm ignorant about all this, but I have three concerns:
    1. One's opponent isn't going to just stand still like a wooden dummy.
    2. Two people versed in wing chun will each follow the steps in sequence, and it seems like the winner will just keep track of all his steps while the loser will lose track, allowing the winner to win, like in a game of chess.
    3. A ruffian un-versed in wing chun will simply fight like a street fighter and make moves that will be unpredictable to one who is well versed in, and sticks to the rules of, wing chun.
    Please respond?

I like the way you see this whole thing. I use ornate bars on my front porch "L" angle and step Tai Chi to position myself for a crazy training routine that seems to give me faster hands. We all improvise, don't we, once we watch these videos. No dummy money...improvise brother. I like the stool idea however. Kudos...

IVE BEEN LEARNING WING CHUN FOR ABOUT 9MONTHS TO A YEAR. IVE LEARN THE FORMS AND DUMMY FORM. BUT JUS GROWING UP IN POVERTY AND BEING WHITE, ME AND MY BROTHER GOT JUMPED ALL THE TIME. SO WE LEARNED BY TRIALS TRIBULATIONS. IVE ALWAYS KNOWN BEING SO STIFF AND THE TIGHTER YOUR FIST WAS THE HARDER YOU HIT. WAT CAN I USE TO BREAK THE STIFFNESS. IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO BE RELAXED ESPECIALLY WITH MY BAD NERVES. SO TO ME I WASTED ALOT TIME OF NOT REALLY LEARNING WING CHUN BECAUSE RELAXING IS THE KEY TO WING CHUN . SO I WANT TO START OVER TO TRULY LEARN WING CHUN. NOT JUST FIGHTING STYLE BUT A LIFE STYLE TO WHERE WING CHUN WAS CREATED FOR. TO HELP ME BECOME THE PERSON I KNOW I CAN BE. IM ALWAYS SO TENSE. FROM MY LIFE TO MY STANCE , TO THE OPEN HAND FORMS, TO THE DUMMY. HOW CAN I LEARN TO RELAX. ANY TECHNIQUES. DRILLS ????? I KNOW IT IS A LONG QUESTION TO ASK AND TO BE ANSWERED. I KNOW SIFU ARE PROBABLY TO BUSY. BUT I THOUGHT I TRY TO ASK YOU BECAUSE WITH YOUR VIDEOS IVE LEARNED EVERYTHING FROM YOU. BUT YOU TEACH EXCELLENCE AND I DON'T WANT TO REPRESENT YOU AS MY SIFU TO MYSELF OR OTHERS WITHOUT REALLY LEARNING AS A STUDENT OF YOURS. THAT'S WHY IM GOING TO START ALL THE WAY OVER AND LEARN FROM YOU THE CORRECT WAY YOU TEACH IT... THANK YOU.. WHEN I GET ENOUGH MONEY I AM GOING TO BUY ALL OF YOUR DVD'S ... AND ANYONE CAN CHIME IN WITH ANY TRUE ADVICE OF HELP. I AM DETERMINED I HAD TO BUILD MY OWN DUMMY WITH PVC PIPING. LOL

Relaxation is mental as much as it is physical. What helped me a lot is to learn swimming. Learn to float in water (if you are tense you will sink). When you can swim without tension, it will improve your relaxation overall. Also learning deep breathing and listen to some of my quantum frequencies for meditation.
