WOODEN DUMMY DRILLS - beginners guide step by step

  • In this video, Neil Parris demonstrates a Wing Chun wooden dummy drill while explaining some of the details that can easily be missed. These wooden man drills are intended for those who have some previous Wing Chun training, but are new to the muk yan jong. Ultimately the wooden man can be used in any way you wish, but we trust that you'll be able to use this beginners guide as a framework for your training on the wooden man if like so many others, you don't know where to begin.
At the time of filming and releasing this Wing Chun tutorial the UK is currently in lockdown due to the covid-19 epidemic. Our initial aim was to include footage with a live partner to support the techniques demonstrated on the wooden man, but due to social distancing this is not possible. Our thoughts go out to anyone affected in these difficult times and we look forward to being able to record and release wooden man drills 2 which will include the application of what you see here when things return to normal.

This man is the real deal for you tube you don't see this in detail of this art someone breaking down a tecnics and mechanics u only get from a tuition so to see someone doing this way finally on you tube the system won't get watered down by people firstly coming across on you tube by others I've seen previously of demonstrations of technics were others have or just leave out details this guy doesn't hence no watering down he should be proud and keep it up on you tube hopefully others can pursue same direction when demonstrating of the art or it gets lost in transition other wise I am a fellow wing chun martial artist myself and is my core art I'm glad to see someone like this showing the way it should be shown like when learning and developing from in a school of kung fu this way people coming across for the first time go ahh ok got it rather than how very good demo keep it up id like to see more people do way u do on your channel

Only thing I see missing is an overlay of feet\foot work in tandem with the taan sau, but none the less, excellent break down of movements and energy use to deflect (and correctly not block) incoming energy. sub'd, thank you.

You're very welcome Charles. I'm afraid you'll need to shop around for an affordable dummy. There are some good deals on ebay occasionally if you know what you're looking for (I've seen around £300 for a decent one). Other online stores will be around £600 up from new for a quality dummy, but it all depends on what you want to spend.
Best of luck in your search Charles. I hope your training goes well.
