When hubby and I got married, his mother wore a white dress. He hasn't spoken to her since.
I didn't even get it until 2 days later when I asked what was bothering him. Then he told me how wearing a white dress was meant to insult the bride. I didn't even know hahahaha. Our theme was "wear red to honour someone you love." I wore a red dress. Most of the people at the wedding wore something red. It was beautiful to see. She stood out like a sore thumb. I was wondering why she did not say one word to me or even look at me at the wedding and soon realized her plan had backfired on her. Hahahaha
True story. We've been together over 20 years and going strong. We love each other more and more every day and best of all no monster in law to contend with. 😊

Im glad you had a good experience - seriously. My ex’s mother...she’s insane. After we got back from our very budget friendly honeymoon, we decided to shower. Nothing improper, just a shower. After we got out, she berated me with every improper name in the book and yelled at me. Her husband sat quietly, knowing full well she was/is nuts. My ex’s brother got up and left the room. I can’t blame them for being afraid of her. I felt I would be stabbed before morning.

My mother in law wore white to our evening reception after changing from a lovely purple outfit, this was after she saw I was in red and then my MOH (sis in law) arrived later on in red. We stopped speaking to them 8 years later, after we lost everything in a housefire, they didn't bother calling or visiting their son/brother in hospital but posted all over FB how proud they were he saved my G/dad. In north indian hindu weddings the bride wears red. Thats the symbol of being married or something. But all the married women can wear red except white cause we wear white clothes to a funeral. My cousin sister wore their wedding outfit to my cousin's wedding and nobody bat an eyelash. I remember this one lady in the family who was bitchy and she wore a white saree. As if she came to a funeral. That was so disrespectful and everyone in the family roasted her so badly that she never came to any other occasion.

This is north indian hindu weddings only. In Telugu wedding (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana - states in South India) We wear a colored saree for the first half of the ceremony and then a white saree with a green or red border. In Kerela (another southern state) the bride wears a white saree with a gold border.

One pal of mine was helping her cousin get hitched. The cousin had a mother in law, who was the sweetest lass you’d ever meet, and she was really sad, cause the wedding was reminding the MIL of her husband, who was on deployment. Obviously, the cousin felt really bad, but then she got a letter. It was from her FIL, the gist was basically “I’m coming back early, don’t tell [MIL’s name], I want it to be a surprise.” And so the cousin, being a bit of a trickster, said “yeah, I’m getting married that day! Come in, wear your best suit, and we can surprise MIL.” The groom got the same letter from his dad, so they both knew. The cousin didn’t tell the MIL this, and she even helped to pick out a lacy white dress for the MIL to wear (it was a near perfect copy of the MIL’s wedding dress, which was destroyed in a fire :( ). Day of, everyone is wearing black and purple, the groom and bride’s choice, except for the MIL, stunning in white. The dances were happening, when suddenly you could hear a scream and then crying and laughter. The FIL, this mad lad, approached the MIL on the dance floor, got down on one knee, and was holding the engagement band he gave her when he proposed. It was so cute, and it was so sweet. The MIL and the cousin have been tight knit ever since, and it was a really lovely story to hear about a nice MIL.

Great image. I just can’t imagine giving in to spending a certain amount of money on a gift in order to get a vegetarian meal, or whatever. I tend not to think of my attendance at someone’s wedding as akin to a Patreon membership. At my wedding I thought of the presence of those I invited as a gift in and of itself, and the meal as something we all shared and enjoyed together as part of the experience. The meal was a thank you to those who attended, as well as just part of a whole celebratory experience. Nice to get a few gifts, sure, but for some of these entitled weddings, it seems like the gift is what is most important to the wedding couple, and that attendees are there to serve as props and sources of revenue. Not my cup of tea. I am stubborn and would probably just skip the reception rather than essentially pay for an overpriced meal sitting in uncomfortable clothing surrounded by people I either don’t know, or don’t enjoy being around. I’d get them a gift ( item or monetary gift) that fits within my budget. Going out after the ceremony with other guests for pizza sounds like a much better time!

I was a great bride! We only had a BM and MOH.
    Keeping it simple, you know?
    Actual Complaints:
    MOH:
"It's so hot! Do I have to wear this dress?"
The ceremony hadn't even started and we were indoors ac!
5 minuets before I walk to the alter...
"I can't find my kids! I gotta go!"
Kids were in the seats waiting.
"If I were you, I'd be so nervous I'd be puking everywhere!"
That was when her plan shone through.
I had paid a friend to do our hair, spent 3 times longer on her updo (it had to be just like Julia Roberts' in Steel Magnolias) then pulled it out just before the pictures. Of course she was totally drunk by the end of the reception.
Which is strange, because she couldn't access alcohol, and we only served O'Douls beer 🤷🏼‍♀️
She complained and whined about everything.
I paid for everything including her room and board for the week. Gas, food, dress, flowers...
6 months later she calls ME Bridzilla!
Nobody could believe how well I handled her, and she called me Bridzilla.
How I wish there was social media then!!
    Thank you for listening!
I've needed to get that off my chest for 30 years!

We got married on our 5th dating anniversary on a Tuesday afternoon. We had 7 close friends at our wedding on the pier here in Brooklyn - their initials are all engraved on the inside of our rings, which were made by a family friend. A friend’s brother married us, our attendees passed our rings and shared a poem or a well wish, and then we had dinner and drinks with about 20 local friends on the patio of a favorite restaurant. It was an incredibly easy going and fun day, and one that I cherish the memory of often. Everything, including both of our rings and clothes for the day, cost about $6k. The fact that there was zero financial stress or debt associated with that day makes it that much sweeter.

I can’t remember how much our wedding cost but we got married at a nature center and everyone wore what they wanted. I wore a white dress but it was not an actual wedding dress and I still felt like a zillion bucks. My 12-Step sponsor catered the event, friends and family played the guitar and sang, and after the ceremony everyone pitched in to move the chairs and bring out the tables for the reception. We hired a young couple who were just starting out as wedding photographers ( I think we were their first or second wedding) to do the photos and they worked their butts off and we got some really good photos. Every bit of the experience was great and even the little bit of drama at the rehearsal (my sponsor was a little high-maintenance) was quickly and discretely extinguished by the awesome minister we hired. My sister, a professional circus performer) did an impromptu hooping performance at our reception. It was first time I had ever seen her perform and it was so fun. Great day full of love and joy. It probably helped that I was about 40 and my husband was about 50 and we’d been together for about 9 years before we married. We are both Queer and I had never had big fantasies about some big princess fairytale wedding, and my husband and I are both pretty easy-going. Also had easy-going parents on both sides of the family. So grateful for all of it! We’re going on 23 years together, and 14 years married and going strong. Love to all of you.

I had a 6 month long engagement, rushed to fit family schedules. SIL-to-be sent us a fb message from abroad letting us know she had just gotten married at the courthouse, but there would be a big church wedding abroad in 2 months (2 months before our wedding). We couldn't go because of money constraints. She came back for our wedding, but her new hubby couldnt get a visa.
At our wedding new MIL told us SIL was pregnant and how we should be thankful to her for keeping it quiet to let us have the attention. I thought I understood the rushed wedding after all, and decided to forget my annoyance. Then baby actually came 6ish months after our wedding, almost 11 months after her courthouse wedding. After knowing her for almost a decade now, I'm fairly certain it was all for attention. I stay away to try and avoid her constant drama.
