My husband and I ultimately eloped cause... family. My husband's best man, his oldest friend, was a bestmanzilla. He insisted on tails and a top hat, like my husband was going to wear. My sister was my matron of honor, because that's what she decided, she insisted on her dress and dress color. I had no say. My flowers were picked by my mom, I again had no say. Dealt with something extremely similar to the groomsman-zilla story for my wedding a couple weeks ago. My husband and I had the groomsman wearing the same black tuxedos and white shirts, but they were allowed to pick the pattern on their purple ties and vests. Best man (also the groom’s older brother) threw an absolute fit because he wanted a special, custom suit that was different from everyone else’s, and wanted to pick his own color and everything. Cussed us both out after we really kindly tried to explain the situation to him and give him options. There were problems before this too. He complained about how he didn’t want to take a half-day of PTO to drive down to our wedding and that he didn’t wanna pay for a hotel room. He constantly complained he didn’t want to plan the bachelor party or have anything to do with the groomsman because they’re “strangers”. We offered to give him a place to stay, pay for his entire trip, pay for his outfit, and more. He called us “entitled” for that, and complained that he was having to go out of his way and we weren’t willing to do “anything” for him. Ended up telling him he could attend as a guest and we’d be happy to see him then. Made one of the groomsman our best man, and found another groomsman that same day; best decision we could’ve made. The best man had been causing drama for months, and a massive weight was lifted when he became a guest instead.

I bet the bride made sure her bridesmaids were ugly and plain compared to her. Talk to your wedding party and work it out so they're comfortable but it works with what you like. I have worn a bridesmaid dress after we all begged for straps so we didn't have to wear strapless bras. Too many big breasted women for that and we were all uncomfortable the whole night. Your wedding party are your best friends, do you want them to remember being miserable at your wedding? I barely remember my friend's wedding, but I remember washing the ton of hairspray out of my hair from the sh*tty stylist we had to use and I remember seeing that crap strapless bra in my drawer for years until I threw the $50 thing out, never having worn it again. I should have just worn clear straps. It was miserable and she picked the most ghetto hair person. We all looked tacky and stupid. I could definitely get behind the look if the buttons all matched, but he was right; that kind of shirt needs a cummerbund or a vest to cover the lower buttons. It still wouldn't be a full suit so the groom would stand out if he had a jacket on!

My husbands family said we wouldn’t last. We got married at twenty one. They said we were too young, we hadn’t graduated college yet, didn’t have our careers together, didn’t own houses or cars etc. on and on it went. They thought we should have waited until we had all our ducks in a row. We didn’t wait. Nearly twenty five years and four kids later and we are still together. Lasted the longest out of the family. Husbands Aunt (who objected the most) still acts critical of me, but tells everyone else when I’m not around that our children are wonderful, so well behaved, etc. hmmm. Wonder how that happened? They didn’t come out of the womb as total angels, we did BOTH have an active hand in raising our kids. But according to them we were too young and immature to get married. Just because materially, we didn’t own houses and land and have established careers already. I’m sorry? I don’t see that as a persons worth.

10:00 If I had my BM/MOH pulled this at my wedding I would straight up tell them to just not come to the wedding at all if they're gonna have this much of an issue with the outfits, and simply removing them from being the BM/MOH to a guest will no doubt just result in them starting to complain about no longer being the BM/MOH.
I'm totally onboard with them having opinions about the outfits as well as politely voicing said opinions("It's not really my colour, but if that's what you want", "I'm not really a fan of the outfit, but hey it's your choice", or "I'm not really comfortable with that type of dress" etc. ) and i'd even encourage it as I'll of course want them to be comfortable with the outfit as well, but this is beyond that.

yeah unless it's something they physically can't wear (like thin materials with no jacket in the middle of winter or a girl with bigger boobs being asked to wear a strapless dress with no boning) it's really not that big a deal, especially since he said the guy could change out of it after photos

He was extra but i don't think he is racist for wanting to look good. There is a real difference in taste and traditions between black folks wedding and white folks. Both groups don't go for the same stuff. Not wearing a full suit for a wedding is no no for blacks and Africans as it considered a cheap look. White folks might think its an alright look to wear a shirt with bow tie and suspenders but it wont go down well in other cultures and ethnicities.
