Everyone seems to be such an expert on Jim Leyland and his managerial credentials...the fact is that his players loved him and loved to play for him. The only reason I will agree that it was time for him to go is that with replay being instituted...we wouldn't be entertained every few games by one of his epic rants.

Leyland was the end of an era. When crusty old managers required taking responsibility. Today's players need special rules against the shift and how and when to pitch and hit. If you don't get a hit BECAUSE of the shift - you are NOT a MLB player, just a wannabe that should be in AA ball.
*Why aren't there more clips of Jim Leyland?? This makes me sad!!! Shows you how much money one could make just recording and uploading clips that the broadcasters won't/don't.*
With all due respect, 6 division titles, 3 league championships, and a World Series ring on his finger, I would say he inspired some teams, more than most. Show some respect dude, he’s not Brad Ausmus!
As a life long Tigers fan since the mid 1960's I believe Jim Leyland was way over rated & not a good manager. He got lucky with the Tigers because they had a ton of talent & should have won a few WS but his managing was awefull. But I will agree with him on this.
Jim Leyland gave Detroit it's best 10 years of baseball at least in my lifetime (I'm 51) You give Leyland the 84 Tigers he wins a World Series. Even though he didn't win one he was still an outstanding manager.
@@msudawg685 He took them from the outhouse to the penthouse in 1 season too in 2006. Not even Sparky pulled that off. It took him 5 years to get the Tigers into the playoffs and into a World Series. JIm could've been a much better manager if he had just kept his mouth shut. He constantly bashed his own players and took their confidence away... He sucked as a manager ..
we need managers like him in baseball again he didn't take crap from anybody not even from his players no matter who they were
Barry bonds lol
@@tylerspringstube4868 I could watch that video all day.
😂 you're funny
Yeah I saw that video before. Some other tinfoil hat wearer sent it to me.
I giggled then, I laughed now.
Fucking legend!!!! And only manager to win a World Series and a World Baseball Classic! 🐐 ⚾️ 🏆 🏅 🚬

Along with the Barry Bonds ripping, this is my favorite Jim Leyland moment: ruclips.net/video/xyZZxxcYTcs/видео.html
He has a point, sometimes you need to call it like it is, if someone makes a mistake, they need to own up to it.
Leyland sounding like Thurl Ravenscroft lmao
Jim Leyland was the real deal!!! As a tigers fan I'm so honored to have seen his last few years as a manager
I wouldn't call it anger... I'd call it passion. Gotta love Jim Leyland. I was there in '97 at Joe Robbie Stadium.
Jim Leyland is my number 1 favorite MLB Manager.
He was a treasure for MLB , as a former fan of Baseball, I miss his way of fairness.
Former Fan...LOL... I am sure MLB misses you

jim has so much passion as a manager if i were the yankees i get rid of joe and replace him with this guy
Leyland was the best. He is immortal for getting in Barry Bonds’s face during spring training.
Loved when he ripped into Barry bonds back in the day in spring training when he was managing the pirates. Classic
Way to give em' hell, Jimmy. 8D
"Now next question." lol.
We need old school managers like him. Do you think he or Billy were ever afraid of offending anyone who deserves it?
Leyland properly held guys accountable and only wanted to see them at their best. Billy would antagonize players and bring them down
Umpire: [screws up]
Leyland: EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS NONSENSE.
Would love to play for a guy like Jimmy !!
Old school bad ass
"Have the nerve to SAYSOMETHING!"
Sounds familiar
Priceless this was Jimmy smokes at his best . I remember watching this game with my son.
Can't have managers like Jim anymore. The players get paid too much. Weaver,Anderson,Martin, LaSorda.....they all would kick your ass to win a game.
he spoke his mind

Sometimes, a ball club needs a manager a player may not like but respects him.
Leyland was obviously the greatest coach of his era.
Jim Leyland was a one of a kind and FABULOUS manager.

WTF are you talking about? Explain please

We should have made him the manager after firi g Larussa in 1986
love jim leyland

Must check other comments, but there's no way Jim can be fined for the rant . 😂😂
When baseball was still a game,
Wish he had the same vim and vigor to inspire his team. Great guy, but it was time for him to move on. Good luck, Marlboro Man.
