    I had to write a comment because even though this video was over 7 years old - to this day it is helping people. I followed your video which was "spot on" and changed my burnt out brake lights for about $5. in parts and less than 20 minutes in my own personal labor as opposed to the $60.+ that a mechanic quoted me to change them!! THANK YOU!!

      Thank you! ....I did one changing the locking mechanism on the rear hatch, but my German Shepherd chewed up the vid SD card before I got to post it. :-/

    It's always reassuring to see something done before you try it yourself. This was a big help. Thanks for posting this vid.

    SAME PROCESS FOR 2015 MODEL! Thank you so much, the hardest part was just knowing how to take off the break light assembly haha😅

    This also applies up to 2016 with the hatchbacks. Thanks for uploading!
    PS: to anyone else that finds this. You have to wiggle it quite a bit while also pushing away from the car. It can be quite tricky but the back and forth wiggling helps

    After removing the screws, I pry around the pointed end of the housing enough to slide a sock in and work it in a bit. After that, I grab both ends of the sock and pull towards me as I’m facing the light and the housing slides out. Works every time.

    Ok so I tried to remove the casing for about an hour!!!!!! Every bad word I know came out of my mouth!!! I struggeled for a while got even madder, and tried to pry the casing off with a screw driver... I took a break walked the dog, and decided to try again. Then the casing just sprung free..I did a little dance swapped the bulb, and moved on to the second break light . Yes thats right both break lights went at the same time. This looks really easy in the video, I think I just could not get a good grip. Thanks Very mush for the video, It saved me a ton of money. Now if I could just figure out how to change the wiper blades Id be golden :).

      @KarinaRodriguez-zu9dt Agreed! It's hard! I managed to get it off after 15 minutes but broke the clip off. That's not an important part is it? 😬

    Thank you very much sir! Very nice to know that Hyundai has a simple assembly for their lights for easy replacement for their owners.

    As someone who’s changed 3 of these tail lights let me say this:
    1. My 2016 model uses Sylvania 2357 from AutoZone.
    2. The “slide it off” part is more of a “tear it off and use all of the humanly strength you have” kind of motion. It’s taken me over an hour at times and it made me question why I even have this car, so don’t give up.
    3. Does anyone know why these burn so easily? I’ve replaced the right one twice and the left once in the past 6 months.
    Thank you for the video and good luck to us Elantra drivers!

      There must be something wrong with the design because I’ve replaced the right one twice in 1 year also.

    You are correct....very difficult to pull off. Rubber gloves...I think I had success with a plastic trim tool to help pop it. The hotter/brighter the bulb, the shorter its life. My step grand daughter owns it now...we may check into LED's.

  • @ThePudgie123
    @ThePudgie123  8 лет назад +2

    Yes, it is snug...you can wiggle it a little, but be careful of scratching the paint. Glad you got it changed...and hope you changed both at the same time.

    I have no upper arm strength, so I had to wear rubber gloves to get a good grip and wrestle with it until I managed to get my fingers under and in the sides of the light. Then a few good pulls managed to pop out the light structure

    Worked in my 2017. Like others said jiggle the housing while pushing it away from your car, I found pulling more difficult

    I can’t believe how many times we’ve had to replace the brake bulbs in this car. Maybe it’s the Sylvania brand? Good tip from someone’s comment to wear rubber gloves. I had a hard time pulling too until I wore gloves to grip assembly.

    Took awhile to get it out .. a rubber spatula did the trick. The spatula was kept in the middle while pulling out. Be careful not let go of it while pulling out l. Has potential to gouge your plastics fender. Keep touch-up paint handy

    I would suggest you definitely not just pull the lens out to get off. Note in the video at the narrow end of the lens there is a disc on the body of the car & you can see on the inside of the narrow end of the lens the catch that slides under the disc to hold that end onto the body. If you pull out, you may crack that catch & then it won't hold snug to the car when you try to reinstall. Slide the entire lens rearward to get it off. It's not easy to slide but you must slide it back to free the narrow end from the body

    I'd like to add little detail: In order to remove a lamp housing assy, it has to be pulled back to the rear end and it is snug tight , use your strength to pull it straight out

    I have tried 3 times to get that housing out of the car. The owners manual says remove the two screws and that's it and these videos say the same. It's loose and I've tried prying, pulling, pushing, screaming, swearing and I'm sure it's going to break with any more pressure. I'm a pretty good mechanic but for the life of me, I can't get that GD thing out!!!

    • @ThePudgie123
      @ThePudgie123  3 года назад

      I was going to add that I recently used a plastic mini-pry tool normally used for removing dashboard parts and it popped out quite easily....rubber gloves also can help grip it better.
      Thanks for watching.

    Always heard don't touch the bulb with your bare hand oil from your hand can cause it to burn out prematurely

    It's ridiculous how hard it is to get the housing out. There is nothing to grip! I ended up taking it to the dealership where even they couldn't get it off and actually broke the plastic (better them than me) and had to replace it. Now I have another brake light to replace and am in the same pickle...

    • @ThePudgie123
      @ThePudgie123  4 года назад

      Yes, you almost have to wear rubber/nitrile gloves and use your body weight to pop it out. If one goes out, I change both...that number burners a little brighter than average, so they last a shorter time. I never get more than 1 year even out of the LL longer lasting ones. Sorry you had to resort to the dealer.

      Make sure your fingers and lens are clean, so you can get a good grip. Slide towards the rear of the car. It is tight, pull hard. Good luck!

    Decent video I guess. But doesn’t show which bulb out of the multiple bulbs that are in the assembly, which way to turn bulb and how far and doesn’t film any of that stuff at all…that’s the whole purpose to RUclips videos right…to film everything.
