    Hey everyone, In this video I show you how to replace the Wiring Pigtail Harness on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS. You may need to do this if your bulbs keep burning out, or if the socket is burned or loose like mine was. But it should work for the 2011,2012,2013,2014 model years. And it is not specific to just the GLS, It should work with the Hybrids and Turbos as well.

    Hey guys another update, apparently there is a recall by Hyundai for these pigtails! So check your local area and see if you can get them to foot the bill!

    If your car is stuck in Park after trying to change your tail light pigtail or bulbs watch this video "2013 Hyundai Sonata Stop Light Switch Replacement, Fuse Locations". You probably burned a fuse and it is usually the 15 amp fuse below the hood of your car. The video shows it where it is! Hope this help someone who had the same problem as I did.

      No problem man, If you get the same one I got make sure you replace the bulbs that come with the pigtail because they are garbage. I switched all of mine over to LEDs and I will have a video coming out on that soon as well. Pretty basic though. If you're going to switch out the Pigtail it would be easiest to switch the bulbs at the same time. Good luck man thanks for watching!

      I purchased it from your supplied link and have discussed that with the wife and that's what we're going to do. I did notice how hot those lights got in the sockets in fact one of them instead of being gray it is already turning it brown from the heat.

    Hey Guys UPDATE, If you are changing out the wiring hardness I HIGHLY suggest not using the bulbs that come with the pigtail set, they are garbage. If you're spending the money to switch out the whole pigtail spend a few extra bucks and get some LED brake/tail lights a long with the LED mini bulbs. I will be posting a video in the next few days to show you the difference. It not only looks better but they are also supposed to last longer. The bulbs the kit comes with burn out super fast and have the potential to ruin the bulb sockets on the new pigtail. Ill post the links for the LED bulbs used in my videos. THANKS FOR WATCHING AND GOOD LUCK!

      The pigtail was so cheap, it might be cheaper for me to replace it again than to replace the lights. And, if you get LEDs, make sure they’re street legal.

    • @LetsRepair
      @LetsRepair  Год назад +1

      @@moniphil good point some cities may have limits on the leds, thanks for adding that man. 👊

      @@LetsRepair I bought LEDs, but returned them when I saw that they said “off-road only” on them. My understanding is that it’s possible cops could pull you over for your tail lights being too bright (I’m sure that’s a long shot, but I don’t need to give a cop a reason to pull me over). Also, I read that if you get into an accident, it’s possible having off-road LEDs could affect insurance coverage and/or any lawsuit that comes out of the accident. The risks are probably small, but why have the risks when it’s easy to not use off-road LEDs as tail lights.

      Question. My break lights work fine, but when I turn on the headlights the break lights stay on? What could it be?

    • @LetsRepair
      @LetsRepair  8 месяцев назад

      Hey Amanda are you sure that’s not just your “tail lights” it’s the same bulb that does both function. Maybe have someone hit the brakes while you’re behind the car and see if they get brighter. Because when your headlights are on your running lights and tail lights should be on as well. Along with the yellow side markers. Hope this helps!

      Hey Tim I haven’t had any problems with my seat, but first thing that comes to mind is either the switch mechanism or maybe something under the seat? Does the seat make noise but not go down?

    • @sanityone649

      That seat switch is a known problem. I’ve replaced mine twice…2014 Sonata. Mine would move the seat in all directions except down…both times…same issue.

  • @moniphil
    @moniphil Год назад +3

    Not to criticize, but this takes a 5-10 minute job and adds about 20 minutes to it. There’s no need to remove the tail light from the car. I’ve replaced both sides of my 2011 Hyundai Sonata without removing it. But if it’s easier for you to do it that way, it’s still a quick job.

    • @LetsRepair
      @LetsRepair  Год назад +8

      I agree, there are a ton of ways to do it faster, but for the sake of training someone how to do it that has maybe never touched a tool in their life this is the best way I could think of lol.

    I have the 2013 and just replaced the wiring harness for the same short in wire and when doing so I realized the bulbs were getting so how they have melted the housing so now I have to replace the entire tail light assembly.

    • @LetsRepair
      @LetsRepair  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah I had to do that a few years back because the bulb warped the whole housing, I switched all my bulbs over to LEDs and that has helped a ton too. Maybe try that so it doesn’t happen again. Best of luck to you! Thanks for watching!

    man i got 2 of those wire harnesses for a 2011 hyundai sonata , first of all the sockets do not fit a 2011 , but they will suffice . second issue , when the lights are in the off position the brake lights come on when i engage the brakes, , but when i turn the lights on for night driving the brake lights are stuck on as if i am actually braking , when i hit the brake nothing happens. also no lights engage when putting the car in reverse . i dont know if i should send it back what .. any help would be appreciated . thanks

    • @LetsRepair
      @LetsRepair  Год назад +1

      So the brake lights will always come on when the brakes are hit whether the lights are on or not, I would say to go through the wiring again and make sure everything is connected correctly and that the bulbs aren’t bad and make sure you have the correct bulbs in the brake light sockets they should be dual filaments or LEDs if none of that works I would exchange them and try again. Hope this helps brother let me know.

      @@LetsRepair yeah i checked everything and I tried just one of the new ones in and one of the old ones and when I wiggle the led bulb around in the socket the the brake lights come on including the light in the middle by the window. So I am concluding that this harness is a no-go for the 2011 Hyundai. I am sending the harness back and getting another set that actually fits the 2011. I'll follow up here thanks for all your help
