- Shamima Begum has lost her challenge over the removal of her British citizenship at the Court of Appeal.
Ms Begum travelled to Syria in 2015 aged 15 and her citizenship was revoked on national security grounds shortly after she was found in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019.
Last year, the now 24-year-old lost a challenge against the decision at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC), which said the removal of her citizenship was lawful.

The UK is under no obligation to offer citizenship to anyone whatever the circumstances, and of course the state does have the right to remove it if previously granted. If not, then that is a denial of sovereignty, an all too common circumstance these days. Constantly asserting that she was groomed without proof is meaningless. As for populism - that is code for doing what the voters want, something that rarely happens unless there is an election on the way.

Why couldn't the court rule that she can no longer use British taxpayer dollars to continue her legal battles? She has been getting free legal counsel for all these years.
