I’ve had this for two years, it’s the best sounding attenuator on the market. It’s not really even that close. It also adds tube warmth to modeling amps when going through a speaker cabinet.

Nah the Waza TAE is way more transparent sounding. This always adds a bit of tube amp to a signal that's already a tube amp..

The Fryette is great to use with a switcher such as the KHE 8 x 4. One attenuator to control all your amps. If your switcher does not have an FX loop but is compatible with an attenuator, then the Fryette FX loop can be used for all of your amps when it is connected to your switcher. Have you done a video comparing different amp, cab and fx switchers? If not that could be a good topic for you to deep dive into.

This is one of the best products available in the amplification/attenuation market. I use mine all kinds of creative ways like with a Synergy rig into a real cab in 4 cable method with a pedalboard, with my Helix or HX Stomp, as an extra channel to one of my amps, etc. A cool trick is to take the line out and go back into the Helix, apply an IR or cab sim and then go out to speakers or into my DAW. The Kahayan amp switcher has an attenuator insert loop that lets you run one of these in between whichever amps you have and your collection of cabs.

I think the presence and depth should be set all the way to the left to not influence the original amp tone if you are after the most clean attenuation. I think they are just there as more of a tone shaping option and for using when the PS2 is being used as a power amp.
At least that is how I have been using mine for many years.

Line level is line level whether it’s a 1 watt amp or a 100 watt amp…So the PS2 can absolutely make your 1 watt amp a 100 watt behemoth…Both switches on flat is a resistive load..middle is reactive, top position is the reactive load maxed out..This is the most useful piece of gear I have ever bought, and the tube power amp sounds fantastic..

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  2 года назад +2

that is incorrect. Mine levels can be any level…. it doesn’t generate a 0dB line level for just anything. Steven Fryette said the same thing. It will not make a 1 Watt amp as load as a 100 Watt amp. I have tested this.

@EytschPi42 I have really enjoyed the Tone King Ironman II attenuator. Among the "traditional" attenuators, it's a really great one. The Power Station has intrigued me though. I understand it attenuates in a different way, by taking the amp signal to line level and then using its own Power Amp to amplify it. You seem to have both the Ironman II and a Power Station. For pure attenuation, how would you compare the end result? Which one is affecting the tone the least?

    • @hlyangel1

Think about the fact that when you “re amp” an amp powered by el34’s with an amp powered by 6L6’s you are no longer running an amp with 34’s.
So I thought I would try it at recording direct and as Fryette states you need to use it with a IR loader software of any type... Well the loader software is what is sounding so good! It will make anything plugged direct into a computer sound stellar 🤣 I unplugged from the PS and
      Straight into the computer and
learned that it alone was what provided the great tone not the PS2

I think you kind of explained with making a 1W amp, 100W with the PS100, and how it will get louder and giggable, but won't really be like a 100W amp... but I just wanted to ask to be sure since I'm not looking for volume, but more low end and girth, if that makes sense. It should, line level should be the same no matter how many watts is attenuated, there is some funny design flaw for some reason, the power amp should't know how many watts has been thrown in.

    • @FryetteAmps
      @FryetteAmps 2 года назад +1

Sorry, but you clearly don't understand how a voltage divider works. To get a small level from a large level requires a voltage divider. A voltage divider does exactly what it says: it "divides" the source voltage based on the divider formula. A 20V signal from your amp, yields a 2V signal at the output of the divider, 10V in = 1V out etc. The rear panel level control further reduces the signal out from there. So, the output level is absolutely dependent on the amplitude of incoming signal voltage.

( all the way from left, off, then clockwise to increase volume )
nothing happens just stays loud / clean until around 5 everything starts rattling, no attenuation at room levels " happens. The amp isn't useable at room volumes like it promises

it's as if the attenuator is being completely passed through and turning the volume knob on the face is no different than turning the volume 1 volume 2 on the plexi amp.
    :
Turning it up makes the volume louder but no tube breakup at quiet levels" happens it's as if the unit isn't there just sounds like loud clean headroom volume with NO attenuator plugged in at all.
    :
( note when I say volume at 4 or 5 i mean with the dial all the way down , left " or 0 position and then gradually moving it up to the right" on the face of the fryette unit would make it like 1, 2 , 3 etc.)
    :
Is there a way to even fix this?
Works fine for 20 or 25 watts it seems - the exact kind of amps I have which don't need an
    :
If this ends up being too tedious / costly to fix id like know if its possible for me to send in this unit and get a new one? I'd probably have to pay shipping fees but at this point I'm worried I have a dud

Lmk your thoughts when you can, really crushed that it's acting like this fryette customer service support hasn't been too helpful.

if I understand your post correctly, you are not understanding what the Power Station does.
You turn up your amp to drive and distort and then you don’t turn up the power station too loud and you will have bedroom levels.
Please get in touch with Fryette to find out how to do it properly!

@@EytschPi42 i don't get it - this should take my plexi 50 watt, cranked everything on 10 down to bedroom/ practice levels" if need be something that is impossible with no attenuation - we agree so far yes ?
There would be no way to get power amp distortion from the plexi 1987 otherwise, either no attenuator plugged in , just with volumes on 1" the thing is very cloud and very clean"
This unit and many RUclips videos show guys with the PS2 and Ps100 with 50 - 100 watt heads squashing them down to reasonable levels? And mine just isn't doing that at all it is just like I'm turning everything up on the amp volume with 0 fryette Unit even with everything plugged in correctly ( i triple checked everything multiple times already )
Once I turn the marshalls volume to 5 on loudness 1 and 2 the fryette is rattling and vibrating the whole time throughout so I clearly cannot go past that point if I wanted to and when I try to the amp does not distort the fryette almost hits the breaks right there and still stays in its loud boomy clean"
English is not my first language easier so if I've confused you more I apologize- I can send you the same video I sent fryette who was not very helpful so far ) to better understand my problem - unfortunately if they don't tell me what to tell to a luthier / amp tech to fix this or allow me to return it or send me a new unit then I will just post the video on RUclips and wait to see if anyone else has experienced this problem
