    I have an 8 head amp switcher, I put the ps-100 in the in out bus of my amp switcher, that gives me a global attenuator for all 8 heads and a global effects loop for all 8 heads, it works perfectly, cuts down on cables, great piece of kit.

      I've got a DeLisle 12x12 on the way and I'm dying to replace by Radial Tonebone Prodigy load-box with a ps-100. I've got over 12 heads and quite a few low wattage combos that would be amazing with the option of adding a bit more power to them. I'm also fully bought in to the Synergy ecosystem so the power amp function of the PS 100 is sooooo tempting.

    "knobs" HA! I actually laughed out loud. I know that longer videos like this might night get the same number of views of something short and splashy, but this was phenomenal. This might be the first time i've heard a clearly articulated difference between how each of these companies approach volume and recording. Hearing the designer explain his focus, his why, and how he's attacked the problems he believes most needed solving, was refreshing.

    Purchased the PS 100 almost a year ago. I am constantly blown away how my 100 watt amps sound at reasonable levels. Even my 1watt Marshall sounds kick ass cranked into it. I run it through and amp switcher and I use it as an attenuator, as well as use it as the effects loop for all 6 amp heads. I like if far better than the Boss TAE, which I sold to fund this purchase.
    Probably the best gear purchase I’ve made in years.

    I have two PS2-A units, which I consider some of the best gear I have ever bought. Mainly use them to go stereo from a Helix Rack into two 2x12 cabs with Celestion Cream speakers (after I finally realized that Class D power amps and guitar should not exist on the same planet - and I tried several of those). I also use them for recording (far less noise/hiss than the Captor X and a lot more road worthy than that OX by IKEA). Of course I also use them to attenuate my 100W heads and to amplify my Effectrode Blackbird Preamp. It works perfectly for all these things.

ALSO, ADDED BONUS - - - Be able to run the already beautiful amp models of the AX-8 through the PS-100 and out into my cabs, eliminating the need to fill my man cave with much more amplifiers. Now I can have inspiration 24/7. This is beautiful, thank you Steven Fryette.

Then the line out of the PS-100 back into the AxeFXIII…..Outputs 1 of the AxeFXIII then go to a stereo Marshall 9005 tube power amp into 2 4x12’s……so the amp models are being run thru a cranked tube power section,then that sound with stereo FX are going out left and right,and I can use a 3rd cab in the middle that is dry….sounds phenomenal…..Power Station makes a very easy wet dry wet rig…..

    This is an awesome video that really answers all the questions I've had. Previously while considering to get an attenuator I always bumped into lots of marketing bullshit and those were packed with a lot of stuff that I don't need and especially don't want to pay for. This product is very different.
    In software engineering this is called micro services - some code that serves only one purpose but does it in the most effective way. I believe that in the hardware it's also a way to go. Every pro should be able to replace any single part of the system if he thinks it's worth it. Of course there's still plenty of room for the combined systems, some people just like simple solutions without thinking of proper connection.

    This looks incredible, I just want something like this but with a Stereo FX Loop, Stereo Outs and 3 Cab outputs. Add the option to have 4 Line Outputs a Left and Right for for the Stereo FX loop, and 2 for the dry signal with a tiny phase difference to give a double track effect. Effectively this would allow you with a Single Amp head to create a Wet/ Dry/ Wet setup to create a perfect Stereo recording or Live setup. You could Mic 3 Cabs, have the FX loop affected L & R outputs Direct into your Interface either through the ADAT or L & R Line outs and just Mic a Cab with the Dry Signal, Run FX Loop L & R outs and both Dry outputs into your interface either from Line outs or ADAT. Yes I get having so many ways to effectively do the same thing seems redundant, but it would give Options, and Options are Good.

    I really love an attenuator by TAD Silencer. I used one (not mine) with a very loud 120w Matamp GT120 and a Fane F90 loaded 4x12, also not mine. I tried the amp and cab without the attenuator, its ridiculously loud, sounds amazing but you really can't use it in a lot of places, even some small venues won't be too pleased if you turned up with this half stack.
    With the Silencer, I could still play loud and move air, but at a slightly lower volume without losing the amp's characteristics with a Sonic Doom Fuzz in the front. As I adjusted the Silencer for lower volumes it still sounded the same, albeit at lower volumes, but loud enough for a gig.
    What impressed me most was, we took it to a friend's flat and adjusted it so we could play at such low volumes we could hear the strings being picked. With a few extra tweaks with the Silencer's fine tune dial and switch to adjust for such environments, it still sounded like it was fully kranked through a 360w 4x12, the only thing that wasn't there was speaker distortion and the air being moved, but it still sounded like a full on half stack. Seriously impressive.
    I have just ordered one to go with a Model T amp that's being made for me. The Silencer is only £350(ish), too.

      Sounds great for you but I don’t believe that has an effects loop. I can use my PS2 with my not Master Volume amps like my Tweed Deluxe (5E3) and add effects after the power amp. A 5E3 typically distorts at the power amp stage - putting effects in front doesn’t work me. I do appreciate that the PS2 is twice the price though.

    I know I’m late to this party, but just to be clear about Edward Van Halen’s classic MXR Phase 90, MXR Flanger and Echoplex sounds from roughly 1975-1981 or so…he did not have effects loops or any external effects loop devices. He ran everything straight in front of his Marshall amps. If you are talking about say 1985 forward and the advent of the rack gear and later the signature amps from the various companies and albums from 1991 onward, there might be some loops involved. But I can say with absolute confidence and hard evidence that Eddie did not use an effects loop for any effect during what most consider to be the classic era of Van Halen.

    I'd say the ONLY thing I don't like about my PS-2 is the warranty/service..... Your local techs (or any other tech) can't touch and it must be sent back to Frayette. Love the product and all that it can do (blows the TAE out of the water), but having to pay for the shipping all the way to them when the issue had nothing to do with me sucked! Specially with shipping costs being what they are now. Flip side to that is it's so good and so useful I did pay the shipping and would do it again if I had to!

      Depends on your location. Sad fact is, very few local outfits are qualified to fix anything let alone a Power Station. We would prefer to use local outlets for customer convenience, but it ends up taking more time, costing more money and the unit rarely ends up back to 100% factory stock.

      @@endokrin7897 I agree, we have got use to our ways. It just bothers me my local tech can't get support for it if he needed it. On the one hand I get it, it's a well built product and quality control is top notch and it's in their best interest to keep it that way. However it still cost me 75.00 and through no fault of my own... For what it's worth, my local tech understood and agreed it was the best thing to do, just the way it goes.... Still think it's the best product out there like it, probably the one tool I'll never get rid of because of how much you can do with it and you never really know when you'll need something like this.

    Just watched this while enjoying dinner, I believe I have just found the solution to my 70w Super Reverb dilemma in the PS-100, but *maybe* the PS-2A would solve it as well?

    • @djt6546

      Both take over 100w input. But the PS2 and PS100 have slightly different options/connections. Plus of course PS2 outputs a maximum of 50w while the PS100, max 100w. Best review manuals online to help choose between the two. Fryette’s own RUclips channel for the PS devices is also fantastic to help choose between the two. 👍

    I have a question. I own a PS2-A. I know how to use them BUT- I use most of my amps cranked. For example, my vox AC-30HW I use with my 2x12 with celestion blues. They are 16ohm speakers and measures 6.7ohms at the jack wired in parallel. I blew up a brand new amp in 20 hours of use ( not sure why yet). Sweetwater replaced it. I was wondering if running it through my PS2 would have the amp see a perfect 8ohms even when switched to bypass? Or does it have to be engaged to actually level the load to the amp? Not sure if the low ohms is why it blew but doing what I can to avoid damage when cranked ( where it sounds best) Does the PS2 provide some protection? engaged and/or disengaged?

    • @FryetteAmps
      @FryetteAmps 3 года назад

      This failure has probably little or nothing to do with the load. Impedance is not necessarily resistance, so your 6.7 DC ohm reading is correct. If the OT did fail, it’s probably because the OT wasn’t made to withstand a continuous full blast. If it failed going into a speaker, it would likely fail into a reactive load as well. If you want to continue using it like that, you might consider a more robust aftermarket OT.

      @@FryetteAmps Thanks so much for the fast reply and happy holidays. You are likely correct. I believed it was the transformer that went. I could see nothing visually cooked but it smelled like a new toaster around the OT. I think I will upgrade it before using the new amp. Many Thanks!

    So does your tone change? Because ive never tried one that kept my amp and speaker sound. When a speaker is monitored though the studio its under a microscope .would be nice to open the amp up and keep volume down to use some of that special sauce. But not at the expense of changing the original sound all the ones ive tried some worse than others

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 7 месяцев назад

      I am sure everything we add in a signal chain will be noticeable scientifically speaking (measurable by special equipment). But if you get on board with the idea a well
      designed/made device can retain the original feel
      and tone, then the Fryette PS is pretty much as good as it gets for now at least.
      I used to love the ToneKing Ironman II attenuators. But when I tried a Fryette PS, I immediately replaced TK with Fryette. To my ears and feel, the Fryette just blew away the TK attenuator. I don’t care how a box is doing what I want to reduce or boost volume. I just want it done in the most transparent way and for me that is a Fryette PS. Certainly worth trying next time you are comparing the competition. 🤷‍♂️

    PS As an aside, did everyone work at Valley Arts at some point ? I swear all the best interviews on the subject of amps seems to have some origin with folks working there. I guess solving problems for artists is a *heck* of an on the fly education.

      The Valley Arts residency was a huge deal for those who took advantage of the opportunity. Not everyone did, but the ones who did, benefitted greatly, not only from being on the front lines with artists who challenged us to go above and beyond, but also from being part of the best group of people ever to operate under one roof. Could the Fryette 100 conceivably turn a KSR PA50 into a 100W power amp?

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 7 месяцев назад

      Yes you would have your amps tone now being pushed out to a cabinet at 100w. But keep in mind it’s still the original pre/power amp that’s creating the original tone characteristics. Having the Fryette PS100 reamp your signal will allow volume increase but your amp will still be creating its oringal tone based on the original pre/power sections limitations.

    Thank you for the interview and specifically the last 10 mins. I’m done with using the OX as an attenuator and I will only be using it for modeling while the PS100 does the attenuation. First world issues, I know. These two products are best of both worlds in my opinion although it would be nice if UA actually developed the product or allowed IRs like the torpedo, but I digress.

    I will say the studio monitor doesn’t have the thump of the magnet of the amp, in the room so THAT is not present

    Can't hold back, need to add this:
    Steven, I'm ordering a PS-2A next week...
    Why? Simple... and I think the reason why I need one may be interesting to be shared with the community out there.
    For my work needs, I need to test/play many vintage and vintage style amps in volume-constrained situations: Blackface and Tweed era Fenders, classic Marshalls and Hiwatts, an incredible sounding Komet K29, a 65amps, and a few Mesa amps. All amazingly good amps, but too loud at their respective sweet spot (even those with Master Volume!).
    Tried way too many attenuators, never found full peace and satisfaction with any, as I always felt like losing the connection and the interaction between the output stage and the speaker. Since my job is Jensen Speakers, this is something I just cannot accept. So the PS-2A is THE solution for me.
    And if I really want to go out there, and gig with my beloved 12W 1965 Princeton Reverb, the PS-2A will allow me to do it. Plus, in all the above cases, I can ALSO add effects and/or alternate preamps in its loop.
    Finally, if I want to play some of my preamps in the PS-2A, have a cab on stage, and add an external IR Loader for the FOH... I can do it.
    It's such a clever, well-rounded solution!
    Thanks once again! Speak soon!

    If you want just an attenuator, there are cheaper alternatives out there. Why not get rid of the power amp and sell a good attenuator for less? I just passed on the PS-2a.

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 7 месяцев назад

      There are plenty of reasonably good (strict) attenuators on the market, including the good TK Ironman attenuator. But that’s not cheap either. If you go down the rabbit hole of attenuators you may then come back to the Fryette and just accept it’s generally regarded as the best device for keeping original tone and feel whether you turn volume down or up. But yea there are plenty cheaper alternatives. Those that buy Fryette PS devices have decided they simply
      Sound and feel a lot better for their own personal
      Use case… and I’m one of them 😊
