Used to work at a donation place and the amount of VHS that are in mint condition that were thrown away baffled my head, (legend/Lost boys/Dark Crystal/never ending story/willow/evil dead/starwars) it was beyond nuts lol
sadly in my city i can't find ANY vhs at any goodwill or 2nd hand stores ... Thrown away because 95% of the people don't watch VHS anymore. VHS is one of those things that need to be thrown on the internet to be sold by VHS collectors. If they grab them and throw them on the shelves, they wont sell because what are the odds that a VHS collector walks into a goodwill looking for VHS tapes ???? Stuff like this needs to be sold over the internet and not in stores, problem is people are jacking the prices UP ...
Am I the only one who goes tape hunting in person and looks for fun or weird stuff? All this eBay betting and hunting mint tapes or viewing it as an investment absolutely blows chunks to the fun of digging through bins and finding something great.
Ya know ... There was an item i was looking at, did a make offer deal with them back and forth, then it was GONE (apparently someone paid full price for it) and my 1st question was WHO THE FUCK in this world was looking for this same item i wanted .... ??? This was a unique item that only i thought i was looking for because it was discontinued YEARS ago and WHO would be looking for it when i was looking for it .... So ... yea one of those things where if you find it, grab it.
# tip. stop being weird and taking a hobby too far. Get a damn player, a CRT and just have fun. Some of yall get so weird and go way too far with all the special cases and searching for valueable plastic instead of just having fun.
Right?! This really goes for all media collectibles too, ESPECIALLY older videogames. I never understood the appeal of spending thousands and thousands of dollars on stuff you can't actually use vs a few dollars (or 20-100$ for old video games) to get an opened one you actually CAN use.
@@RetroDeathReviews666 all these people are addicted, like a drug addict to finding monetary gains. Its ruined nearly every retro hobby of mine. I cant search a record bin without the tought that someone thinks im looking for money. Its annoying. I was in a retro shop, they wanted 500$ for an inbox, old box, dreamcast. The people behind the counter were asshats.
This was a very disappointing video. Just a bunch of general and useless info. Tip #5 about how you thought you were buying a sealed copy and got burned. Well okay....but you don't tell us a single thing about the deal and HOW you got burned which would help collectors. Seems really silly to do a video like this.
These tips suck. They're the most generic suggestions I've ever seen. Things to actually look for is mold on a tape, look to make sure the box isn't damaged with water stains or mold on the inside of the box, check for certain labels like AIP or Dead Alive that have limited print runs and put out some crazy movies. Star Wars and the Goonies had millions of copies printed. The only valuable ones to own of those mainstream movies are stupid rare, good luck if that's what you really want but the true fun of collecting movies is finding the crazy shit you've never seen and probably don't want to.
While your critique is harsh it is also very true. Collecting is different than selling. If you are trying to sell something that you can still find hundreds or thousands of on ebay at this very moment than it won't sell much and VS tapes can very quickly take up space.
Did you just buy a bunch of cheap common titles in duplicates that no one else wanted? These aren’t “top titles” or “rare titles” you are showing. You have 20 copies of ET? Lol. So did every single video store. Why would anyone want to pay for something so common???
It was 20 copies of ET but the print was different. The words were smaller or larger in some copies depending on what company made them. Some put a picture here vs there. pictures were moved, etc... Yes it overkill on 20 copies but its his $$ at the end of the day.
I am new to VHS collecting and somehow vicariously am following these rules. Might be cause I'm also a retro game collector. Idk. Spread the good word!
VHS is so much easier than games these days, since everyone wants Nintendo games but absolutely no one wants old tapes. I love how easy tapes are to get these days.
This guy was profiled on a news channel and he has 17,000 tapes. If you watch the documentary you will see he has many rare tapes from better companies than Goodtimes, like Media, Wizard, Midnight Video, etc.

@Joshua Powell. Moldy VHS might 'play', but the picture is full of static and it also dirties up your VCR. I watched a RUclips vid where a guy said he would show how to remove mold from a tape, and after wasting my time watching it, he went to play the tape and the picture was STILL messed up! Don't waste your time on moldy tapes.
It’s amazing how wrong everything you’re saying is. Please stop spreading false information around. It truly goes to show how little you know about this.
I do not envy anyone starting VHS collecting. Its an uphill battle before you hit 250 tapes. You hit a platue and it becomes much easier on your mental.
@@ACommenterOnRUclips This is true. I got screwed on eBay once when the seller took a pic that didn't show the edges of the box. Turned out that it was one of those damn cut boxes put into a clear plastic clamshell!

For some reason, I’ve been taking all of the collector additions. I don’t know why I just been taking every collector edition I could see.
