I don't know if it was the "BEST" sitcom but, certainly, it always left a warm feeling in the heart of every viewer at the end of an episode. All of them were very loving characters. I loved this show. Even the music of the intro was fantastic . Thanks for the good memories.
Oh Alice (Emma) so sadly missed as is the series and its comedic cast many have gone but not forgotten for the laughs you provided eh eh no no no yes !

At last, that final intervention explains a joke that for years I have told but no one ever got. In my youth there was an advertisement on the underground and elsewhere of a middle age executive man in a trilby hat which read “If you want to get ahead get a hat” In long hours sitting around in the Army we changed that to “If you want to get a hat get a head” We all laughed, but in subsequent years I couldn’t get anyone else to even smile only frowns. Thanks Dawn and Alice or should I say Emma - and the husband for that final explanation of “my” joke.
maxinecheshire: The theme is composed by Howard Goodall (he also composed the Mr Bean theme). It is based on psalm 23, the Lord is my Shepherd. It's sung by the choir of Christ Church Cathedral. See if you can get your hands on Howard Goodall's CD Choral Works, it's on there as well. He's a great composer!
oh my god you have just got to love alice she is so funny, every time i watch that joke it makes me laugh or anything that she does. halarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Walking in Battersea Park, last month. And I'm sure I saw the actress Emma Chambers, sitting on a park bench. The quicker she gets offers to do Panto Work, as the good fairy the better. Ideal when her kids grow up, and she can continue acting on stage every christmas. 5 years is a long time off the box.
Yes, when geraldine asked her what was brown and sticky (a stcik) then alice went off on one saying that trees were different colours etc and that some sticks are sticky because of the sap lol.
I loved this show from the first time I saw it, the quaitness of the village, the motley crew of people. I used to watch French and Saunders, then AbFab, the caught this. It is my favourite, the Keeping up Appearances, the Are you being served. Think PBS will ever put on Footballers Wives? Certainly more entertaing then Mi5
LOL!!! I heard this joke years ago...maybe in the 70's in Canada...and for got about it. Still is funny! I love this show...and look forward to the jokes at the end. They are mostly old jokes...but the way that Alice reacts to them is better than the joke itself. I am in Canada and only seeing this series in reruns for the first time...and am loving it!
When this series first aired via PBS we were contacting our local PBS affiliate about them adopting it for the next season. Then the horrible news came. There were no more episodes. Evidently it crashed in England. But once the wave of enthusiasm hit the states and bounced back they rushed it back into production. We were then glued to our tellies every Sunday night. We begin with Being Served, then Keeping Appearances,, then Times Go By, then Vicar. Sunday nights have never been better!
it didn't crash it was finished we tend not to air a programme just to air a programme its preferable to finish on a high as do most of our TV programmes do you know the saying leave em wanting more there you go the USA are the only ones that air a programme after its sell by date 😂😂😂😂😂😂
How did Geraldine put up with her for so long??!! lol Alice is just adorable, but I would've given up on the jokes years ago. Great way to end the show! Alice finally getting the joke! And a great joke it was too :D
@noadlor I actually always thought Alice was kind of embarrassed by the off-color nature of the Vicar's jokes, and that's why she pretended to not "get" them.
Damn, I'd let Richard explain a joke to me any day... I don't know how that's either sexy or romantic... but he's just really attractive... He should've been in the last episode more! Naked preferably... hehehe
i love the series...and alice is definitely one of my favourite rolls...she reminds me constantly of my boyfriends not so popular aunt (in looks as well as in personality...and brain capacity) and she gives the whole family a good reason for a giggle ;D these last two (the constipated accountant and this one) are my favourites!!!
hey! i didnt get that joke!(despite of his explanation!omg!) im learning english and still its hard to undertsstand jokes! is there anyone who would happily explain this?
RIP Emma Chambers. Gone too soon.
RIP Emma. A truly brilliant comedian who is sorely missed.
She was a classical beauty! So much missed! 😢
One of the best comedies out there, every character was brilliant.
How she always kept a straight face through all those episode end jokes. Impressive.

How she kept a straight face is unbelievable.
Acting?
Alices' character was one of the best in this series, so so sad that Emma Chambers died so young, tragic.
The best show of all time. Stellar cast and guest stars.
This show would've been nothing without her.
Always missed and never forgotten ❤
I just loved her.❤
Emma was definitely the star of the show... By a country mile!

I always thought that Emma was the real star of this show, she was the only reason that I watched it, everything really funny had Emma as part of it.
A sad loss.
A great show with a great cast.
Brilliant, Brilliant series.
I loved Alice Tinker played brilliantly by Emma Chambers, now in heaven.
"people say that alcohol is so bad for you they are so wrong"

Loved Alice.... am I the only one who found her unbelievably attractive?
Actually, from the same writing stable, in AbFab I thought Bubbles was the sexiest thing on the tele
You are correct on both points. 2 of my favourite crushes
She actually was quite attractive!
@@arthurvasey Absolutely........
The ditsy, totally wacky blonde and expertly played.
Don't know how she kept it together in that sketch.
