@@josephinebennington7247 You’re thinking too hard. Sit back and laugh at the brilliant writing that we don’t seem to be able to cultivate any more. Oh the joys of Reggie Perrin, Ronnie Barker, etc… It would be great to find funny comedy without political undercover sarcasm and awful language.
@@josephinebennington7247 We can call it wisdom I suppose. I certainly like intelligent humour in places, but I suppose I just used to relax at those times, knowing that I was going to smile. I didn’t get too worried about Boycie’s business dealings, or the Driscoll brothers methods of protection, and as for that nasty Jim Broadbent character, I certainly hated him, but just left it alone when the program finished. The big one we used to carry on at work the following day was The Rise and Fall of Reggie Perrin. That was so ridiculous, but we could relate to it. I had always avoided Fawlty Towers, because I had never liked anything to do with Monty Python, but when people were saying I was like Basil, I just had to watch. I was hooked immediately.
My friends and I were playing Trivial Pursuit, and one of the girls said, "Ooh, that's a hard one!" I couldn't resist and replied, "That's what she said!" Hahaha!
OK for those who don't know, when she says "Where's the soap?" she actually means wears like it wears away the soap and the other nun says "Yes it does".
I love the 2nd and the 3rd one they made me laugh like hell :D The soap one made me get confuzed then i looked at the comments but i think its not that funny :l lol or is it just me...
The first nun asks "WHERE'S the soap?" As in "where is," and the other hears it as "WEARS the soap," as in "does it wear the soap"... so she replies "yes, it does rather," meaning that it does, in fact, wear the soap. So really it's just an intellectual remark on the inefficiency of contractions in the English language, in the form of a joke.
I think this compilation must be the jokes from a single series (or in American parlance, season) with that one and the one about the Invisible Man occurring in a different set of episodes.
OMG i just got the soap one. A little tricky that one is but not it is just as hilarious as any of the others. Anyone know if the great storm skit is on youtube?
it's a rude joke, when the nun thinks "hmm that's a hard one" peter hears it as in "that's a hard one" referring to something rude, which eve 'said'. it's a rude joke but hilarious.
Best one ever was the "I can't belive it's not butter.." So convoluted but actually made some sort of sense, wondered at the time how Emma rembered it.
I remember reading or hearing that when Emma got that script, she went home and practice the whole thing until she knew it by heart. She got back there the next day and they were thinking of cutting it, but when they saw how beautifully she'd learned it, they didn't have the heart, and thank god.
Some of the commenters have gone part the way to explaining this one. I'm going to ruin my reputation and impart the full meaning... Nun 1 says "Where's the soap?", but Nun 2 hears "Wears the soap". The implication is that Nun 2 (and indeed possibly Nun 1) are using the bar of soap as a... ahem, ladies' pleasuring device - and it's wearing out from use. Now, let us pray... (I'm guessing you've gleaned this now since your post was 12 years ago, but I enjoyed answering it!)
The programme was always worth it for this part alone.
The only reason. Like Fools and Horses, it soon lost its original punch, and became a comment on class by writers, who think they are high class.

@@expressoevangelism80 As it’s years after the series, I’m find I’m thinking deeper, as opposed to too hard.

I just love Alice,, The Ditzy Blonde.. She plays the absolute best part in Dibley. I just want one of the same xo. RIP Alice.
Emma Chambers, who played Alice, was an actress of immense talent both on tv and the stage
'What did Eve say when she first saw Adam?' Oh that's a hard one!' 'Yep you're in!' ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC!!!
I don’t get it!
@user-tt9ow7yc9e It's implying that Adam got sexually excited when he saw Eve and got an erection. Then Eve saw it and said, "That's a hard one."
Thanks for putting those together. What a great show it was.
My friends and I were playing Trivial Pursuit, and one of the girls said, "Ooh, that's a hard one!"
I couldn't resist and replied, "That's what she said!" Hahaha!
Alice - what an actress RIP !!
I still can't figure out how the actress that played Alice kept a straight face most of the time. She had the best lines!
Love this program, have it on dvd, I used to watch with my mom when she was alive. These jokes crack me up.
Emma Chambers. Sadly missed. With the state of this country. We need you back. PLEASE.

OK for those who don't know, when she says "Where's the soap?" she actually means wears like it wears away the soap and the other nun says "Yes it does".
That's been around for over 60 years, we told it as kids
But I still don't get it even knowing that.
Alice is fantastic
Is it me, but the interrupting rabbit is just so bizarre. I have a quiet smug smile on my face.
What's the difference between a nun and a woman having a bath? A nun has hope in her soul...
It does, doesn’t it! Hehe!
I love these jokes, teh first joke is probably the first and only one that Alice got! It was a good one too!
Of this set, yes, but she also gets the joke about the Invisible Man.... which is why she finds it unfunny.
omg cool ty for upload i luv this part at end of ep :)
I love the 2nd and the 3rd one they made me laugh like hell :D The soap one made me get confuzed then i looked at the comments but i think its not that funny :l lol or is it just me...

No problem. Glad I could help.
Best knock knock joke:
A. "Say knock knock."
B. "Knock Knock"
A. "Who's there?"
B. " "
The first nun asks "WHERE'S the soap?" As in "where is," and the other hears it as "WEARS the soap," as in "does it wear the soap"... so she replies "yes, it does rather," meaning that it does, in fact, wear the soap. No..... one means that it wears down the soap ( by using it in a "funny" place and the other is meaning WHERE ?? is the soap
Not in the understanding sense, But I would die of Laughter.
OMG i just got the soap one. A little tricky that one is but not it is just as hilarious as any of the others. Anyone know if the great storm skit is on youtube?
Knock Knock

Number 3: well, i was gonna send it back anyway
Took me a few minutes to get the nuns in a bath one… rude!
I heard that one at school and I'm now a pensioner.
Doesn't she play The Fat Lady in Harry Potter?
She's dreadful, it was only Alice that kept her afloat

All the years I've been watching "The Vicar of Dibley", I've not got No 5. Could someone explain it please?
