WHEN A TV INTERVIEWER pointed out to Michael Schumacher that his victory in the Italian Grand Prix in September was the 42nd of his career, surpassing the number of wins earned by the late Ayrton Senna, the German driver broke down and cried. For the first time, the world saw the human side of the icy Schumacher.
A Champion cries for a champion... very touching.
Mika, a gentleman.
Two great men paying respect to an even greater man - pure class from MS - If ever happen to have an accident that eventually costs me my life, I hope it is in one go. I would not like to be in a wheelchair. I would not like to be in a hospital suffering from whatever injury it was. If I’m going to live, I want to live fully, very intensely, because I am an intense person. It would ruin my life if I had to live partially - Aytron was granted this, sadly Michael not ..
5 years ago wow😊
Mika, also a champion.
You guys do know that Micheal was the car right behind Ayrton when he died at imola, right? That's why it was so imotional
I just wrote emotional with a i. Wow
And realised 11 months later...
+Camron Davis yeah, big mistake! But I forgive you.
It was more emotional because he felt partially responsible for pushing him so hard. He clashed a few times with Senna, with Senna even accusing him of cheating. Off course he didn't have any fault, but i think it just burst out on that particular moment when he realized he got that record...
i think michael and mika got podium after senna crashed.. and mika was once a teamate of senna..
I can feel how painful it is for an Ayrton Senna fan to get a question like that when the driver knew that he was behind Ayrton before he died and saw him crashing into the Tamburello turn. Schumacher you a true legend and a masterful driver. Get well soon. All of your fans are praying for you !
You said it perfectly
Get well soon
Well u can’t say all of his fans are praying for him, speak for yourself mate, I mean praying for him never crossed my mind and I’m his fan
So… you’re saying you’re an a**hole?
No he is saying prayers don’t work. Look after all these prayers and nothing good came out of it.
Schuma was Senna’s huge fan. After his death Shumma used to visit Sennas grave.
I am convinced his cry was a mix of reaching his idols numbers but also not having him anymore.
I used to get up early to watch F1 with my dad when I was little. I remember him telling me about Schumacher- I was like 7, so the only thing I knew about the drivers was the colours of their cars. My favourite colour was red, so you can guess who I was always rooting for. Schumacher was a big part of my childhood. I wish him all the best in his recovery.
+Frances Nolan I was playing with Lego on sundays, and watching F1 at same time with my dad and uncles.
Me too! I remember crying with Dad when Ayrton Dad. I an 31 now and I still cry when i remember. .
same to me!!
I was 11 when Senna died. Was an avid fan of F1 back then and coming from Britain, the BBC had the coverage. Watched that whole weekend. Barrichello's crash, Ratzenberger.....then Senna. Schumacher was driving for Bennetton then, Prost had retired so I knew Schumi would become Senna's new rival. And even though Damon Hill was British, Senna was my favourite. I was so glad when he moved to Williams.
THAT Sunday I watched it with my dad. After the crash, Murray Walker said that Senna's head moved so that gave us some brief hope. But even I knew it was a bad crash. I remember screaming at the TV because the camera was on a helicopter overlooking Senna's car. The marshalls were just standing round and I kept shouting at them to at least check on him. Just do something instead of stand there. Sid Watkins, the doctor came along shortly after in the medic's car. And the damn camera kept focusing on Senna as he was carried out of the cockpit and lowered on the floor. Senna's flameproof overalls were cut and you could see while the medics pumping his chest. Then, blankets were unfolded to block the cameras view. Senna was airlifted out....and the race was restarted. Something told me then that Senna was gone. But we didn't get an official announcement until later. When we did, I walked out of the house, went to a quiet spot and I cried. I'm not ashamed to admit it.....I cried and cried. I didn't watch another race until Australia that year. I couldn't imagine a starting grid without Senna's yellow helmet brightening the grid up. Sorry for the long comment....just wanted to share my experience that day. I'll never forget it.
I did exactly the same thing, both my father and mother were in favour of Alonso back in the day, so I hated every time Alonso or the other Renault ended ahead of any Ferrari
I WISH A QUICK RECOVERY SCHUMI. WE ALL LOVE YOU HERO.
is he still alive man ???
Caiman Industrial yes
Tonttuplays is he?
My mate lied he said that he was dead
#keepfightingMichael
Still the same or:|:'(

Many thought that Schumi had no feelings, that he was a "robot". But in real life he was an emotional guy. Gerhard Berger said that initially he took MS for arrogant, but it soon changed after he had met with Schumacher and they had had a long conversation with each other.
When MS learned the news of Senna's death he burst into tears, saying that it was his fault. Here he was reminded of his late Brazilian rival and the sad memories came back.
yea definitely he felt bad maybe because he had remember what he did on the french gp in 1992 to him and his cheating mainly on senna's home country, brazil, senna were such a good guy unfortunately almost no one know him has senna outside brazil just as good racer
He is not a robot --he is german, and as such, inherited a limbic system that has been conditioned by northern climate, dark ages, lack of natural resources and human affection (as compared to tropical zones), wars, violence, and segregation.
ya robot
@@fernandolk4536 and your country lacks a good health care, employment, a stable economy aaaaand...money ! Therefore all the immigrants come to germany...not for affection, climate and your wet dreams about southern countries. :)))
"I had one hero. His name was Ayrton Senna."

Mikeado66 Jim clark?
Did Schumacher really said that!
when?
@@AhsanShah-vh5bq never. His hero was jim clark

They mentioned that a few years ago at Top Gear.
Ayrton, fangio schumacher legends
Never seen Michael like this, so vulnerable, so human. Sometimes I forget that behind the straordinary, almost machine like, driver, there is a human (and what an human!) like this.
Schumacher and Senna deserve respect . Made many people happy for the simple fact of driving a car . Never forget that what matters is to make a person feel happy ....
Yes. . Thats a great man, cries for a great man... They make life beautiful. 👍💛
Mika is such a nice guy. I love him, how he cares about Michael's feelings... Great Sportsman!
i saw how he congratulated Michael after losing out the champtionship at 2000 in the final race by 4s. He's a real sportsman.
Was at Monza that day, at the Ascari chicane. A guy was killed at the race start. Schumi won, took a decisive advantage for the championship (the first for Ferrari in 21 years) and equaled Senna's wins. What an unfortunate, emotional weekend it was
15.5 years... feels like last week...
Rest.In.Peace Ayrton Senna, The F1 community will forever ever miss you as the greatest all time, we will never have a person like again
More than an idol Senna was a Brazilian hero. He carried our flag every victory in a time when Brazil was far from being a world power.
He left a great legacy, its foundation: Instituto Ayrton Senna, which still helps many Brazilian children.
A fantastic human being inside and outside the circuits of Formula 1
i'm in tears just watching this! I love how the 2 drivers show so much love and respect for Schumi.
LAST LAP Champion! You can do it again!!!
haha nice one!
Michael don't you dare go to Senna yet. You will see him. Just not yet for fuck's sake. :(
Michael is a great personality, there is the die hard racer and a the father Michael Schumacher
- very emotional scene, never forgotten. #keepfighting
Legends.
Amazing men.
Big rivals and great men
How Mika stay close and understand his friend/colleague
Sad sad sad Sad and beautiful
R.I.p. Ayrton, Roland, Gilles and all other pilots that unfortunately had the same tragic end.
Get well soon Michael.
💪❤
just keep pushing champion :( fight for your life
Really emotional, so much respect how mika handled that. Ralph as lil brother didn’t know what to do.
Much respect for all of them
I never saw a Legend crying for another Legend. Nevermore will see a scene like this.
The fact that they continued the interview is very shallow
The reporters are effing robots I swear
It breaks my heart given the situation Schumacher is living right now. The best drivers to ever live, Senna and Schumacher.
0.36 it was at this moment when everybody knew... the interviewer fucked up
Too soon bro
Legend, such a shame he had the skiing accident .
Whats up now with him?? Pretty much no1 is talking about it anymore and I am so fkin sad when I get that in my head:/ life is so terrible sometimes to some people eh
ZsW Freaky it was confirmed recently that Micheal is currently unable to walk, but is alive and well
Ohh thanks made ma day
Many people were happy about his skiing accident and are using that incident to reflect success on Lewis Hamilton. They happen to be all Britains. Very very disgustful.
GTR-LMP not sure where your hatred of British people comes from but let me tell you as a British person Michael was adored by huge numbers of British fans the only case in British fans having a disliking to Schumacher was due to his rivalry with Damon Hill .... NOTHING ELSE he is respected like no other in the UK that's for sure!
He was my Hero. I can't believe he is in this condition right now. I just hope he will make it through and stay with us.
Get well Schumi!!! We love you!
Não sabia. Que bonito! E todos procuram falar tão mal desse grande piloto!
Mika did not want to answer, why? He and Michael idolized Senna and were in the Podium the day he died, and were informed so before stepping into, of course it brought back memories for both! 😢
Mika allways was and is such a nice guy.
Still remeber how fair he was after the lost in suzuka the same year.
What a great driver, sportsman and human.
Right today Hamilton has equalled Schumacher's 91 wins. Such impressive.
Hamilton will never be a Driver like Schumacher
I hope we get to see you again one day.
I understand Michael's feelings. He was right behind Ayrton the day he crashed and died. He must be feeling a bit of (undeserved) guilt and at the same time he knew that was his hero and now that he reached it, it's a great achievement but also a hollow one as he knows Ayrton had more in the bag.
Michael didnt give his live like Ayrton did, but he couldn’t stand that and he do it on the Ski. He run faster then he could, sking on the edge. Rest In Peace Ayrton and welcome Schumacher when time come for that.
Mika show respect!❤ this is good people on earth!
This is a sad and beautiful moment.
and that's why Lewis Hamilton will never be better than the god that is and always will be Ayrton Senna... It's genuine, unexpected emotion. And if senna was ever asked a question like "would you want your engine in other drivers cars?... Senna would simply say yes... Cos I AM the better driver... Lewis reply is..... comments below
He was the one behind him in His Last seconds.
That will Touch you everytime.
Keep fighting Michael
May his soul rest in peace. MS deep down you must be a good man... Regards .. Prayers & Respects from Pakistan:-)
hakkinen and schumacher where big rivals. but like you said. mika is one of the nicest guys ever. they both respect each other so much.
This shoes the human side of MIchael....what an amazing sportaman(with a couple of gray spots....i know....but whta a pleasure to watch him race...i´m a Senna Fan but aynway...FORZA MICHAEL!!!!!!!!!!!
Will forever respect Mika Hakkinen for that gesture. A true GOAT of F1.
- An Indian who loves F1 since 1996
I've heard a lot of comment about Schumacher crying, things like "it was all for show" etc, but I believe that it was relief as up until that win he'd been under a lot of pressure to win races and beat Mika, they weren't false tears..
Schumy Legend
I still remember seeing the little young Schumacher entering the F1 while the legend was scolding him, soon to become a rival one day. No wonder why so many people hates the press. Some reporters sucks, no mercy, just bombards the guy with memories and screw it.
Hakkinen's quick laugh at 1:13 after saying "can we have a break?" clearly shows how annoyed he was by the interviewer.
No, Mika was also fighting with his tears annd that's why he asked for a break.
Mad respect to Mika, eventrough I don't like him a lot❤
BTW Senna died right ahead of Michael so probably that's the reason, Michael brokes in tears bcs he witnessed tragedy live😢
Senna, Prost, Piquet, Mansell, Schumacher, Berger..........Legendary drivers during the best years of F1
0:50 michael i'ts crying to hero
for ayrton senna
well formula 1 died with schumacher's first leave
Another great driver with a great heart like Senna.
I can't stop laughing when i see Mika Hakkinen and Ralf Schumacher pointing Mika meaning ''Move to next''
Hope Schumi get well soon.
Much respect for him.
He was taken away from us
I give respect to Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher for being two of the best drivers of formula 1.
and after that, when michael its a little bit better,he asks "michael, what does this emotion means?" (or something similar to that)
and michael answers:
"can you make another question please?" SCHUMI IS A LEGEND :')
"ralph, you're unique of the three drivers we have here... in that you are the one not crying."
It's so sad because that was his first team mate i believe mentored him as a young driver
No, they were arguing about Senna before the interview,on backstage,or whatever.Schumacher is crying but Mika had the joke on the tip of his tongue. It just escalated at the "right" moment but he still felt unconfortable and even laughed, so did Ralf. You can see, despite video quality...
I think the grid had great respect for him not only as a driver but as a human, he was trying to make strides in F1 to make it safer for the drivers literally the day of his crash after Ratzenberger. Drivers rivals or not share a lot of camaraderie because what they do is so dangerous and challenging.
I think Mika didn't want to talk because he had a tough time trying not to cry as well. I mean, he was Ayrton's teammate for a while almost right before his death and he was also on the podium on that day in Imola.
No mate, do some research. He was a legendary racing driver who passed on track in 1994. R.I.P.
None of the drivers were aware of the outcome of Sennas crash in 1994. It wasn't until the day after or so when the drivers found out Senna had died. Schumacher and the other drivers continued to celebrate as they were not told about Sennas death until the race weekend concluded.
Great moment of Schumacher here.
I don't know how many of you know this, but Michael watched Senna crash into that wall.... he was right behind him at Imola when it happened.
The jornalist asked a perfect question because he caught the human side, the human felling inside Michael Schumacher about Senna's death making he cryin.
You know... maybe they "asked" Senna if he wanted to stay alive and retire, like Prost did, right in front of him, refusing to drive the Williams, but Senna chose overtake the situation and to be in a place where he was not supposed to be.Its very clear from all the images we have on youtube.
everybody should have a friend like Mika.
Oh Michael Schumacher.......,😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🥹
nice man,we love you,ı hope to he will return to health
If Senna hasn't died in 1994 we wouldnt have known who Schumacher is.
Mandatory indeed. Thank you. And as for my arguing ability, let's just say it's a life skill I can live without. I personally believe that when you resort to "well X amount of people agree so it must be true" in an argument to prove your point then you don't have much of a point to argue. Interviews have got to do a job just like the drivers do.
Mika being a gentleman, as most Finns are. Hope to have you back Michael!
Kapil Chhabria I though he was German I'm probably wrong but his name means shoe maker
Zac Casey He means Mika Häkkinen, left to Schumacher. Häkkinen is Finnish but Schumacher is German
Also, if it matters, they're both human beings.
Well, I wouldn't say Raikkonen is much of a gent hahaha
@@Mirozenx well, he's shy
Considering how Ralf looks stunned in 0:51 looking at his brother, we can assume it was a very rare strongly emotional moment for Michael Schumacher.
Interesting. I read it as him knowing not to console/touch Michael when he cries because of past learnings.
I'm not a Brazilian but Ayrton Senna is for me, till today, the greatest driver I ever seen. So many years after his death he make me crying untill today. I miss Ayrton, We miss Ayrton. Forever
Agree
I'm Brazilian, Ayrton was - to me - the most talented, but not the biggest for the sad reasons we all know. RIP, Ayrton, we miss you forever.
Obrigado por suas palavras.
@@rekdinhopoetico no, we don't. what reason?
i remember this, i was shocked back than by that journalist who dont care at all and keep asking unimportant question when that crying answered on all of them.
021liman he just try to help. Becouse if you put all eyes on Schumi in that moment it would get just worst. Its not polite to ceep watching while he crying..
Well, he cried partly because of his memories of Senna..and partly because in this very race where he equalled Senna's victories, a track marshall died following the huge pile up at the second chicane, don't forget about that.
and not froget the heart attack of his father
I couldn't watch this without shedding a tear..
Get well soon Schumacher
RIP Senna
