hi everyone 👋 thanks so much for joining me for plant chores! I've tried my best to link everything mentioned in the description box and I've marked chapters so you can skip around and reference things back. hope you're all doing well 🌿
You may think it’s dark in your house but it’s well lit, and with the white cabinets reflecting the light, it’s really bright in there and easy to see what you’re doing.
Hi Fern, I hope you are doing well after your cold, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the plant chores videos you produce; they are my FAVORITE. Thank you so much.
The plant ID on the tag rather than labeling the pot was the life hack I didn’t know I needed. It’s amazing, the little details that make such a difference. Thanks Fern for all the inspiration!
Hey there, from Canada, 47 years old and have my notifications on. I feel special that I am one of the rare ones. I have watched you for years and love your cozy vibe.
Hi Fern! As a plant lover and collector I love listening/watching your videos while I work, and any time really! I think you’re doing great and keep up the good work! 💚🪴🌿
Ive been making DIY pon with the same things! I will say, the lava grip lava rock is SO dusty and has a lot of small particals, so I actually ended up sifting it through a strainer first to remove some of the smallest bits. It definitely helped!
I’ve also found that adding perlite to pon really helps with the aeration and heaviness for smaller baby plants, props, or plants with thinner roots. ❤
I need more trailing plants like yours. Regarding string of hearts styling, I've got mine as a dining table center piece where it encircles a little rock statue, I think by now its learned it can just crawl around on it.
Have you ever thought about filming a planty ASMR video? I think it would be awesome ❤ you were whispering in your last video and I fould that really relaxing! And I noticed u like to tap on things sometimes 😊 love your videos ❤
I've been watching both of your channels for a long time but rarely gave you the love you deserve. ❤ Thank you for posting videos, they're informative, relaxing, sometimes funny or sad (when you or Olive aren't doing well, but that's part of life) and of course, your love for plants is really addictive so when I see you caring for them I go take care of mine.
I just got a new Hoya today. It’s a Hoya black margin. I’ve already let four leaves to cold. It came from Florida during this last cold snap. It wasn’t that cold when I ordered it. It was held up by the grower cause they didn’t have a specimen that was up to their standards and then when they did send it out it was before the latest cold snap. It’s actually doing ok. It’s a wax leaf plant so they are pretty hardy. My diffenbachia didn’t fair so well. I think k I’m gonna lose most of the top leaves. They felt like wet paper when they got here. I flipped and flopped them into position now they feel like silk or dry wet paper. But I’ll have to see. I did take pictures of it right away incase it won’t live. The heat pack was right next to the roots of the diffenbachia. Here’s crossing my fingers and hoping it lives.
Hey Fern, Awhile Ago I Was Really Into Plants And All That Stuff. And Somehow I found Myself With A Collection Of Over $500 Worth. Sadly I Later Neglected Them And Now I Have None, Recently For A School Project It Has Required Me To Buy A Pothos, And I Watched This While Video While Prepping It For My Home, Keep Up The Great Work Ferm🎉🎉🎉
I’m living in Sweden and me and my plants struggling so hard for any light 🥹🌕 is just gray and then dark… every sun sometimes is nothing…. 🫠 looking forward to season 🍃 Love Your videos 🌱
Thank you, Fern for your recommendation of Houseplant Essentials for clear pots, trellises and pot extenders! I ordered some after your unboxing video and was very pleased with their products! Love that their clear acrylic trellises are round and sturdy instead of those flat acrylic ones that snap so easily. Hope you feel better soon. Sending you best wishes!
I like to mix pon and leca together or put leca on the bottom and pon on top for more aeration. so far this is working really well for me. Thanks for all you do for us!!
I love all of your plants. Your space looks so Jurassic! I noticed you have a Disco Ball hanging planter, too. My niece gifted me one for Christmas, and I love mine. It's self watering, and I have a Hoya in it. Another great video. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
I got sick at the beginning of December and ended up with bronchitis. I’m still coughing at the end of January. I’ve lost so many plants because I just didn’t have the energy to look after them. Hopefully you are feeling better Fern 💚
I'm also an under waterer. And I also love pon. My problem is that my plants in pon do so good that I'm also constantly watering those ones too. It can get overwhelming sometimes. I heard somewhere that the zeolite is a ph buffer...??? I need to investigate this more. I love your videos. Thank you.❤
One of the ways I reduce my maintenance is to fill my moss pole only up to the plant and fill it as needed, that helps with not watering moss for nothing, I put a tube in the pole so the water gets to the moss without making a water mess, this saves me so much time I can send you a picture if you like
I make my own mix with perlite #4, cocoa coir, coca husk, orchid bark, and charcoal. I apparently didn’t put enough of the cocoa coir in because this mix the water ran through it with out stopping to barely wet the “soil”. So I had to add more cocoa coir to make it a little less chunky. I did add more perlite in it. We’ll see when I repot something well b see how it works.
I just wanted to let you know your videos are helping me so much through a depression episode ❤️ Just watching you and plants gives me so much seratonin! Thank you 🥰
oh thank you so much for letting me know 🥺🌿 hearing my videos help people with their mental health truly inspires me to keep creating. I hope you come out of your depression asap angel 💚💚
Everytime I see your crawling, pillow leaf plants, I think I need one. Or two. Or three. But I have no space for crawlers. 😭 I'm waiting for you to keep us updated how you teach your sp silver to climb, so I can do it after. 😄 And that Anthurium in your greenhouse, bottom on the right, is it moodeanum? Gorgeous! 🤩
Yep enjoyed watching this chore video and even though it's late here in Sydney, you've motivated me to make a list for similar chores tomorrow morning when I get up at 5.30am 😆 My Florida Ghost is growing wild too and because of yours looking so great I've left mine grow wild too...happy days👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And my Silver Cloud (your Mamei) is definitely going into the rectangular self watering trough I bought years ago for it 😅 and I'm also going to put it in LECA since most of my plants are in it (only my Alocasias are in PON). Thanks for your time Fern and glad you're feeling better. Im not looking forward to March here when the days are shorter and colder😏 but I do like autumn and winter here in Sydney (it's not as cold as where you are or the UK, just don't losing the Daylight Saving situation...I thrive on sunshine and lights so my poor hubby has to put up with all the lights on even during the day. So totally got you when you said you need sunshine right now 🥰
I bought a bag of Leca over 6 months ago and still haven't opened it. I have thought about making a diy pon bc Lechuza is always sold out and it's quite pricey. Thanks for another great video. Feel better!
Girlllllllll I’ve had round 2 of covid and I’ve only just managed to shake it off after a week. 😫 watched this vid whilst catching up with plant chores. Glad you’re feeling loads better, take it easy!!! ❤
Hey friend!! This was an awesome video. I love the new home of your string of hearts family! I hope that leka works. I loose everything I placed in it and ditched it. I use a chunky pumice from Amazon. I get 25 pound bags for cheap and it is quarter size.
Could we see your repot of hoya multiflora as that one was pretty rootbound and I would love to see how to upsize the pot. I only use self watering pots for pon and I would love to use regular clear pot and cache pot as self watering pots are getting more costly with my increasing collection😅
Love plant chore videos! 😊❤ I'm a leca user and I love it (except when it gets everywhere 😅). As far as I know I think rinsing and soaking the leca before use is about more than getting rid of dust. There's also alot of minerals and compounds from the manufacturing process in that dust which is not great for the plants. So by washing and soaking them you get rid of that. Flushing regularly is also important to minimize salt buildup and help the ph balance. I recomend watching the leca queen here on yt for more detailed information. Hope you feel better soon! ❤
Thank you for making the time to create this content! It can’t be easy when you’re sick! I love watching you while doing my data entry, it’s like I’m on FaceTime with a friend.
Yay plant chores! I love this type of video. You have such a variety of plants, and they are all so healthy and beautiful! Glad you're feeling better!!
I can’t wait to see the Hoya grow. See its growth pattern and hopefully its flowers. I don’t have good luck getting on g flowers. Except my multiflora.
Hi Fern. I'm glad you mentioned that the sp. Silver is a crawler, but can climb on a pole. I recently got a plant rescue Philodendron - Silver Cloud. As it gets bigger, might try doing the same. It's so upsetting when plants decide to give in. My Calathea - Fasciata, did so well last year, this year leaves are curling and dying off 🤔. I have put it in a prop box to see if extra humidity can save it. Thanks for Pon ingredients 😊. Good luck with the Leca!!!! Hope you get well soon. 💜
Glad your feeling better, I really luv that tea mug, any chance you bought it online?thanks. Oh have you seen the new superthrive plant spray for steams an leaves 😊
Fern... Love you channel! 💕Just curious if you've had much experience with Philodendron Paraiso verde? I have a few of them and cannot get them to variegate. I have some on heat mats and some not, but do have humidifiers on them all. I've heard that heat can contribute to the variegation, but still no luck. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Ok first I am glad you’re on the mend.. no fun being sick. Can I ask you how you keep the smoothtop of your stove clean? I just got a new stove(smooth top…hate it) and my OCD to keep it clean is in overdrive 😂. Even water leaves a mark! Terrible concept for sure… your props looked amazing and I am looking forward to watching them grow. Molly’s has been incredible for my plants and I had it out when I needed to repot a phal so will see how it grows. Kisses to Olive 💚🐶
Love your content Fern, your piper, please what do you use as a substrate are you using? Mine was having a hissy fit so I threw it in perlite and it is recovering but, I can’t live in that forever.
I am just using my regular chunky diy mix for the piper - soil, bark, & perlite. honestly next time I repot it I will probably try to make the mix a little more dense so that it doesn't dry out so quickly.
Hey Fern, like your videos a lot. I was wondering if you could help? I am from Belgium. I don't find the zeolite here, not in big bags anyway. Is there something else we could use in stead of zeolite, that does the job as well for making our own semi-hydro? Keep making those great video's!!! Take care 🥰
Hi! Apparently it's the Zeolite that regulates the pH, however I've heard of people skipping it or even just using pumice with success. I haven't experimented without it, so I can't give my personal thoughts, but you could always try just the pumice/lava rock or even add perlite :)
Hi there I noticed you had left perolite on roots I typically use moss and have to pull it all off but would rather use perolite if I can leave on roots ? Thanks
hi everyone 👋 thanks so much for joining me for plant chores! I've tried my best to link everything mentioned in the description box and I've marked chapters so you can skip around and reference things back. hope you're all doing well 🌿
Your repotting and potting up videos are my favorites because you are so careful , gentle, and methodical! It is so relaxing to watch you!
Thanks so much 😊 this is so nice!

Hey Fern. You don’t want to bury the stem of a crawler. They run along the top of the ground. It can rot out when buried.
Ive been making DIY pon with the same things! I will say, the lava grip lava rock is SO dusty and has a lot of small particals, so I actually ended up sifting it through a strainer first to remove some of the smallest bits. It definitely helped!
Straining is a good idea!

Coarse #4 perlite is the size of pea gravel if you know what that is. Except that this is bigger. Like small pebbles.

Hello Fern from Puerto Rico!!! I usually prepare my semi-hydro with a layer of lecca and then the pon. It’s working wonders. 🪴🌱🌿💚🙋🏼♀️
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! And that’s a good way to do it :)
Thank you so much! And yeah I think it can be tricky to get the crawlers to climb, so I hope I have luck again 😃
Ok that explains why that was on your items were on. Your shopping list. I looked at it and went hmmm 🤔 maybe
Total Hoya inspo, I feel confident I can grow these Hoyas, thanks!👍🏼❤️🪴

Loving the leca! I just recently potted a few props right into leca and we have roots! It's fun experimenting! Good luck with your leca adventure!
