- decorate my nyc bedroom and completely transform and organize my closet with me! we are finally finishing my bedroom in my new apartment!! (almost, i just need one more print). today we are adding storage hacks to make my closet more functional by using a lot of vertical space and adding more decor to my room to make it feel cozy!

Designer tip, you never want things on the same plane so that it gives visual variety and height. So really one of the shelves should be higher than the bookshelf to “extend the wall” and give the visual queue that you have high ceilings. So those were a good height! Lifting things off the ground also helps reduce the “visual weight” from the ground and feel less cluttered. When in doubt, go up! Especially with high ceilings. Hope this helps anyone who reads it ❤

You need a cordless rechargeable light or a tap light in the closet😊
You should put a battery operated puck light in your closet - you can stick it on the of the wall so you can just click it on and off .. or there are battery operated light switch..etc…

Just a little idea; in the little quirky corner I'd put shelves all the way up, put all your books on it and get rid of that bookshelf
Coat closet solve - If you have room for it, maybe a free standing wardrobe closet in the shared living space for all of you? Great for coats & shoes, etc.
Good job! I had a closet like that and I popped the folding door off, put it under my bed and put up a lightweight curtain with a tension rod. It just made access to everything easier. Just a thought!

I love this idea. I'd put another curtain pole up at the same height and matching curtains as your window curtains. It will balance out the area and draw your eyes up, making the area less cluttered.

videos with cats are a bonus! I like the floating shelves but my cat is a climber. nothing is safe but at least I dont have to dust high places anymore. the little nook with the single plant is crying out for shelves.

You are so handy. You did great with the closet and your room in general. Some stick-on lights would be perfect for the closet.
Now you need to get a small folding footstool so you can easily reach the stuff on the higher shelves without having to get the full ladder.
Well done! Let's hear it for those theatre classes that come in handy! (me tooooo) When I lived in a very very small NYC studio it really helped me to have less stuff and was so peaceful. Bennett is a doll baby!

Have you ever thought about getting an ikea freestanding wardrobe unit and putting it in your living room as a coat/bag/shoe closet for you and your roommates? They’re not that expensive at all and can hold tons! You could do a pax unit and customize it or something like a brimnes.
Or a hauga open closet in the hallway if they have space for it

I did not know if there are lights in your closet but maybe put some lights up where the new stuff went...like those that go under cabinets. Other than that, I think it looks like the closet organizing went well.
Add a battery light to help see in the closet better.

Your room is really coming along very nicely. Yes, a beautiful, large print that you will enjoy looking at when you enter the room is a great idea.
The framed print will look great over your bed, it has a lot of the same green as your sheets and duvet. Don’t hang it to high though. The bottom of the pic should be about 8” max over the headboard. If you decide you don’t like it over the bed, it would look great on your heater wall also as the pink in it pairs well with your cat pic. It would look good over your small dresser also.

You could even hang 2 prints above your bed like the ones you had in your old apt side by side
Love the closet organization. Your room is so white. Maybe put up removable wallpaper on the wall above your bed but not above the radiator. I also think it would look amazing to put floating shelves in the nook where the radiator is from the radiator clear up. You could put your books and decor on those shelves and free up space by getting rid of the bookshelf or put it in the living room. You would need to remove the shelves that you just put in, they will not work with the shelves above the radiator. You should get at least 1 live plant, a pothos for your room, they clean the air and look great. It might look good to wallpaper the window wall too.

The only thing I kept thinking was, the cute bookshelf next to your dresser adds a lot of visual clutter in that spot. What about in a corner again ( maybe where you tall lamp is ) ( caddy corner ) and your white dresser moved to the left a little. I don't know know, just a thought........ anyhoo, looks GREAT! 🙂🙂🙂

I have a closet like yours where there's just all this space upwards, but the door frame cuts it all off. Honestly didn't ever think to put up shelves. Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend

You've probably read enough advice, but I think some peel-and-stick wallpaper on that little nook behind the radiator would look nice. I love that you're gonna get a larger print behind your bed! I'd also put two more shelves above the original two. Same stack. And I'd put a mirror to the ceiling above your standing bookshelf. 🥰 so fun!

Looks great! You should add another light in your room to brighten it a bit more.
you should put that frame with the heel you were gonna put over your bed maybe in the indented wall that is off to the side, and then put a bigger frame or like a crocheted tapestry or something above your bed, something big

Everything looks good. I’d hang things at different levels to elevate the height of the room. Also how about balances between your curtains in your bedroom. It would hide the curtain rod and tie it all together. Love it all💕

I would move the shelf with the books into the corner where the lamp is, or, put that picture in the alcove in the wall behind the bed by the hanging plant. JMO.

those are ones I don’t use as often, my one I use more regularly is on the floor next to my drawers in the closet!
For coats do you have space for a freestanding closet somewhere, or one of those hallway units which combines a shoe bench and coat hooks/rail?
Are your heaters radiators cause I could need to have the air build up let out they called it bleeding the pipes
