I felt that about the fake leather boots flaking off. I've had a jacket and a purse that i loved just start sloughing off their coating to a degree that they became unusable. Like, they decomposed before my eyes. I've sworn off fake leather because of the trauma
Both faux leather and genuine leather will flake and crack over time. Learnt that the hard way. The only difference is with genuine leather you can prevent it with leather care. Edit: Though, must say it does take way longer for genuine leather to do this compared to faux leather.
@@printernoises1338 My genuine leather jacket has been flaking but that's because I take such bad care of it and wear it all the time 😭When I buy a new one I'll definitely take care of it
When you say you've had something for years and it's from like 2020 I feel whiplashed and cry a little bit on the inside at how time flies 😭😭 you're absolutely right that is multiple years ago but I still think of loads of clothes and stuff I bought or done since 2020 as new 😭😭
About the flaking boots: I had a similar issue with a pair of cowboy boots I thrifted. Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do about stopping the flaking. What I did instead is peel the entire flaking layer off, then spray the boots with shoe paint. It was time consuming, but worked great in my case. Gave the boots a suede-like look, and they're still perfectly wearable. I don't know if it will work for you, each pair of shoes is structured differently. But maybe it's worth trying if they're going to waste anyway.
ive also done this with a pair of hand-me-downs faux leather pumps, can confirm it works! the texture will obviously be different, as will the finish but personally i think it's much better than letting the poor thing rot into oblivion lol
The post declutter binge is so hard to avoid. "now that I've gotten rid of those two bad turtlenecks I deserve a new base layer'. And the stress of finding an appropriate approach to sustainably passing along the other items.
That’s what I do…I wear things until I can’t (whether worn down, too small or too big) but if I can continue to utilize it I will. Sometimes I just do clothes swaps with my sister or cousin and makes everything feel refreshed. Sometimes I’ll get items back from past swaps and I find a new adoration for them. So, I believe some clear out is helpful but huge purges can be somewhat damaging. ❤ Love this video. Also at least you were honest when sorting through everything.
Okay, I definitely agree with removing things as you notice that they don't fit in anymore. That is what I always do. Also, big closet cleanouts feel overwhelming.
If you like some of your scarves but don’t wear them you can use them as wall hanging or for other purposes, maybe draped in the window and stuff like this. I do it all the time and it’s so cozy and a great way to appreciate the Colors and memories the scarve has
Hey Liz, I know this isn't your usual content but I would love to see a room tour/apartment tour at some point! You have such an artsy and eclectic style and I would like to see how you bring that into your space as well as your closet! :)
Unfortunately, in my experience, faux leather is impossible to fix. I usually cut it apart at the seams and use the pieces to make a pattern in real leather and replace all the plastic. But that's definitely an all-day diy project that is probably not practical for most people's lifestylesXD
LOL Liz I've also got tote bags of clothes and purses I've been meaning to get rid of for a year 😅😅 Definitely gonna put this on in the background while I clean up my closet. Time for seasonal refresh!
1. Maybe you could add an elastic portion to the back of the white shorts' waistband? 2. You can also add more elastic to the Kina and Tam white/pink pants! 3. If you just add a round carabiner onto the fortune cookie bag, it can be an accessory for any bag any time!
10:20 ah, this is why I don’t like or buy faux leather anymore. It never lasts. The shoes get bad within a year and I hate that because I want my shoes to last me at least 10 years (or more with repairs and care). Say No to fake leather, people 😅
Those racks are sold at dollar stores for plates, but can be super useful for other stuff! I've used them for records in the past, but I never thought to put bags in them!
I’ve been wanting the purple clown kina & tam shirt for forever and you had it at suchhhh a good price so I had to snag!!! It (and the red shoes !!) are going to a happy and loving home 🫶
I needed to do a closet clean out this season too, so it was so lovely to do mine as I watched both parts of your series! It was like an adhd body double hack to have a sense of camaraderie as I sorted through my old favorites from my wardrobe. Thanks for producing these videos!
Don't know why, but I've never thought about putting clothes in the archive😅 I'm planning a closet declutter too so i will not just think about keep or pass this time. Thank you for this😊
For the tthings that are tight around the waist, you could open up the side seams and put a little elastic just on the side so there is stretch to help when shifting/moving around
Im pretty sure those two racks were originally meant for holding records. Records were the flat, grooved discs used oldies used to listen to music from when combined with a record player 😉.
At 6:14 are the velvet paisley pants a brand called Carlisle??? I think I might have the matching shirt?! I recently found a velvet square-neck shirt at a vintage shop where I live, and it seems to be the same color/pattern. Wild stuff!
It -does- look different before and after! Why is it so soothing to watch other peoples’ closet destashes? 😂👏 Totally going to look through the comments and see if anyone has a way to fix those flaking pleather items 🧐✨
I was literally mending stuff from my big mending pile while watching this video - so don't worry, you'll get around to them! 🥰I feel you about the bottoms that have no stretch to them! Stretch/adjustability is so important to me, I feel like I struggle with any clothes that aren't adjustable - also the kina and tam pants are so freaking cute 🥹💕 So my style haha, but overall I just love all of your funky pants choices! The fortune cookie bag is wilddd, but so fun! I like the crossbody bag you're getting rid of, I'm actually looking for one right now because I'm getting tired of carrying bags in my hands haha.
Glad to see some of your archive descisions turned to pass. I think you also need a category probation. If you dont wear something in the appropriate season, it is passed or archived. Just throw out the crumbly boots, even if they vould be daved, you have others thst do the job. You might benefit from the reversed hanger trick, and one in one out rule. Or even 2 out for a time. Oh, and that harnes could go in archive if you like, and maybe the fat belt. They get in the way of your daily wear. Very interesting to see all ur stuff
I've been thinking about a closet clean out but I have a tiny closet that I mostly wear so it feels like it would be really anticlimactic and not dramatic... Buuuutttt like you said, maybe just removing the small percentage of pieces don't really touch will have more of an impact than I realize. Also, just because my closet space is tiny, doesn't mean I don't have a section of storage stolen from my partner's closet & at least one bin of costume / festival garb that doesn't get used at all in my regular rotation. Sooooooo... Could probably assess that stuff, too.
I've been obsessed with your videos recently! I'm a business student in my final year of university and love fashion, especially shopping sustainably. Some upcoming assignments I have, I'm planning to focus on those topics as it's what I'm most passionate about. I'm not sure what job I want to pursue once I graduate and I'm from Northern Ireland so there aren't tons of opportunities but I don't think I want to move. Do you have any advice and how did you get into styling? Cause I do love styling myself and always get compliments very kindly. Sorry this is a lot but I managed to be very early lol 🫶
omg hi, thank you!! Unfortunately I don't think I'm qualified to give any career advice hahah, I just started RUclips because I thought it would be fun but I had absolutely no professional connection or formal education in the fashion industry. All I know is putting myself out there, immerse myself in the things I love, and trying my best to do a good job has helped lead me to where I am now :)
@beepwrld aw absolutely! I think I'm too afraid to put myself out there like I've considered making another ig account but not too sure. I post some things on my personal account anyway and use LinkedIn as well. Thank you for your reply!
Would it be possible to add an extra button to those white shorts so you can adjust the waist better? Or theres also that hack where you add a bit of elastic through the button hole so it can stretch while still being buttoned up? I don't think that makes any sense 🥲 but i'm sure there's a way to add a lil wiggle room!
Loved this 2 part series! It motivated me to clean out my closet too. Do you have any hairstyle recommendations for bucket hats? My sister got me one that's so cute it's yellow with flowers, but with my big curly hair I struggle to think of something other than 2 braids that fits well underneath the hat and dosen't look crazy lol
I just hit the like button before watching any of the video because the title made me so damn happy. Also I know I'm gonna love the video, cause your videos are always fire!
When I saw the hair scrunchies thing that you made yourself and said you never wear it as a hair tie, i thought what if you used it as a collar or a belt ruffle thing? Might be cute!
Most of their pants (including these) have elastic waists and the size chart gives a range of waist measurements that would fit, but for my most comfortable, least tight fit, I go with the largest size that has my waist measurement in it's range! (so for me, even though I typically wear a size small in most brands, their pants fit me best in a size large) I am also selling those pants on depop if you happen to be slightly smaller than me lol!
Maybe you could exfoliate off the flaking leather with one of those weatherproofing waxes? It'd be a gamble though depending what the shoe looks like underneath it all lol
honestly I had a whole explanation originally in the part 1 and then I cut it because I thought it would be boring lol but I definitely have more to say on it! in short, it's kind of meant for pieces I know I would not let myself get rid of anyway, so it's either put them away or keep them out and be overwhelmed by options. I also think if they're out of sight for a while, I may feel more comfortable letting them go when I check back in later!
Depending on the size I might buy the flaking black boots off you. I need boots for a costume where I just sit and don’t move and am looked at from far away
I felt that about the fake leather boots flaking off. I've had a jacket and a purse that i loved just start sloughing off their coating to a degree that they became unusable. Like, they decomposed before my eyes. I've sworn off fake leather because of the trauma

I’ve lost two of my favourite coats/jackets to fake leather flaking off. I still miss them 😢 lol
@@printernoises1338 My genuine leather jacket has been flaking but that's because I take such bad care of it and wear it all the time 😭When I buy a new one I'll definitely take care of it
my friend calls it "Flake Leather"😂

Yes
You can put clear gesso on peeling leather
Choose matt or shiny finish
The post declutter binge is so hard to avoid. "now that I've gotten rid of those two bad turtlenecks I deserve a new base layer'. And the stress of finding an appropriate approach to sustainably passing along the other items.
Yes. Guilty of this. Trying to avoid that pattern.
AN IDEA: You can add a piece of pretty trim to the bottom of the DIY skort to make it longer!!!

omg I am so impressed that you do that
Absolutely gutted someone got to the quilted backpack before i could! That piece is so special, i hope whoever got it uses it!
it was the first one sold! I hope whoever it was loves it too
me too and the red shoes
Same
LOL Liz I've also got tote bags of clothes and purses I've been meaning to get rid of for a year 😅😅 Definitely gonna put this on in the background while I clean up my closet. Time for seasonal refresh!
You inspired me to go through my closet. Almost done! Reorganizing so that my sweaters are more accessible, and got a pile to donate
You can sand the boots with sand paper and then use a faux leather paint or make your own using acrylic paint and fabric softener
1. Maybe you could add an elastic portion to the back of the white shorts' waistband?

Those racks you use for bags are for pan and pot lid storage! I think using them for bags is a great idea.
This is how I declutter and curate and organize all at once, too.
I’ve been wanting the purple clown kina & tam shirt for forever and you had it at suchhhh a good price so I had to snag!!! It (and the red shoes !!) are going to a happy and loving home 🫶

So happy to see this second part!
I’ve been enjoying your videos a lot the past few months
It -does- look different before and after! Why is it so soothing to watch other peoples’ closet destashes? 😂👏 Totally going to look through the comments and see if anyone has a way to fix those flaking pleather items 🧐✨

Both parts were so fun to watch and I ADORE your outfit🤩 the red is literaly 🔥 on you!
If you ever want to do a house tour or decorate for fall video, that would be fun! I need ideas! I need to do a closet declutter again soon too!
Keen for the mending/upcycling video!
I am currently going through this process myself so seeing this pop up in my recommended was very timely for me! 😂

Per the white shorts, since you sew, look up a video on how to make the waist a tiny bit bigger.

Unused but still love the pattern / sentimental scarf idea .... DIY art piece? You could frame them and turn them into a memento to hang.

Just finished my own closet cleanout today, and used your archive method! Thanks sm Liiiiiz
Having the pile of clothes to mend is so real 😭 me too…. oops - I’ve finally been picking away at mine so happy

oh i LOVE the way those straight leg jeans fit!! do u know what brand/style they are?
I have seen RUclips videos where people add elastic to waistbands to make them fit better.
with the silver loafer things the wooden heel could be painted i think
because silver and wood i feel like they are different families..
If you used a pattern for the skort, where did you get it from? I love the shape and would looove to make my own!
i'm curious, if you'd be open to discussing it, about the decision to have a clothing archive.

Looking forward to the mending video!
Where is the houndstooth bag from? I love it so much!
Depending on the size I might buy the flaking black boots off you. I need boots for a costume where I just sit and don’t move and am looked at from far away
12:11 those are racks for pans and lids
I wonder if you get black leather paint and seal it if it'll look less worn?
incredible video title choice 👏🏼👏🏼
Ahh so excited for this video!
People HIKE in sandals?? Thats wild...I would get blisters soooooo fast lol
Where are your favorite pair of straight leg pants from ?
i'm dying to know the brand of those black ankle/calf boots you're always styling. i know they're thrifted but please 🙏🙏🙏
Bandolino!!
thank you!!!
the flaking boots have dry rot. you can’t fix it and it will only get worse
Stretch out them paaaaants! (like the length of the legs lol) I've done it to a couple pairs and it's the easiest "repair" ever
yippee!!
are you selling those black heeled boots? they're adorable 9:36
/ would you mind letting me know the brand if not?
If you’d got rid of those morning glory pants I would’ve rioted
Where did you study abroad? It's killing me that you mentioned study abroad, but left out that detail 🤪
India I believe, I remember it mentioned in a different video
…idk what your shoe size is but if you decide to sell those black boots ( 9:30 ) i will gladly take them 🙂↕️
