The door disappears right after you look into Basil's room. Just like with Mari, Sunny denied Basil's death. He didn't want to believe it actually happened. And he was already getting haunted right as he went home. He felt guilty because he thought it was his fault for leaving Basil alone. This is just a theory but I think the "something" that was following Sunny into the car was also Basil. Since he didn't want Sunny to leave him and he decided to go with him.
The one-eyed-something is always Mari, usually the guilt of faking her suicide. Basil actually has a "repressed" form, the "Stranger", but note that when Sunny goes to bed after Basil's suicide, Basil's something is faintly visible on the ceiling (accompanied by the high-pitched sound you get during other "spooky" moments).

it’s not necessarily related to SOMETHING, but used to stress the idea that a character is upset and therefore speaking in a more upset tone because of their feelings. hero was very obviously upset, as is the rest of your friends, and is also trying to protect you, encouraging you to not worry about them and focus on his new life.
@@lilbug1592 I’m late to this, but I think that font is closely related to Something. As far as I’m aware, it’s only used for Stranger, Basil, the key messages near the end, and Hero in that one line.
The most disturbing and horrifying thing is that Basil probably suffered a good 1~5 mins before finally passing out from blood loss or whatever. I can't believe that a 16-year-old kid didn't even scream in pain for once in that time.
Nah he probably did scream, why would the others be awake? It's just Sunny that was in a deep sleep, probably because he woke up once in the night already anyway
Remember that weird font the game uses? The one that looks fucked up? Only Basil used that text, probably because he was under the influence of SOMETHING, so he was constantly sad and scared. Now look at Hero after Basil commits suicide. At the end of his dialogue, Hero uses the fucked up font that Basil used the whole time. Theres a saying about suicide, “Killing yourself doesn’t get rid of your pain. It just passes your pain onto someone else.” In that case, that someone is Hero. He was already distraught at losing Mari to suicide, his own girlfriend and his friend’s older sister, but now he also lost another close friend to suicide. SOMETHING may not torment Basil any longer, but if that fucked up font is a sign of anything, it means that Hero is the next one to be tormented by it. OMORI is a masterpiece.
No, there are other instances of the wrong-hand font. For example, apparently trying to visit Mari's grave as soon as you pick up Hero makes it happen.
@@artemefimov8215 two deaths causing 6 deaths, actually, if you count the ending where sunny stabs himself right after basil kills himself. And probably aubrey's mom as well
i got this ending accidentally cuz i assumed basil's door would be locked lol i went back to sleep because i thought maybe i would be lead to suicide after learning the truth, and i didn't want that to happen .....
This is bad, but can you imagine what happens in the other bad ending when OMORI jumps off the hospital? Basil's probably going next, me the rest of the group will be completely broken.
Yeah, counting Sunny and Basil, and the fact that the group thinks that Mari committed suicide, that makes literally HALF OF THE GROUP DEAD BY SUICIDE. Yeah, they will all be traumatized beyond recognition.
Kel saying "Why does this keep happening to us?" tore me up inside same with Hero clearly not being okay but putting up a front like hes not breaking down inside for the better of everyone else
Not So Fun Fact: We have never really seen a crying sprite of Kel, until now. This must mean that he was putting up an act and pretending to be okay. When Basil killed himself, however, this facade was over. Kel's depression had broke out of its shell.
Horrible Hot Take Kel is literally as repressive as Sunny, but he's an extrovert rather than an introvert. So instead of bunkering down like Sunny-he's out in the world, putting on a big smile, acting like the lovable goofball he is. But he's still in as much pain and repressing himself, simply because he doesn't want to make other people sad.
@@dustinjones7458 Pretty accurate considering the dialogue you can have with Kel after the First Aubrey fight in the cemetery, he straight up puts a smile on so he can get people like Hero to not be so down in the dumps. To the point where his parents believe he's genuinely okay, and instead of comforting both Kel and Hero they only come to Hero because he's visibly distraught.
OPINION INCOMING: If we disagree, it's okay! Feel free to correct me if I have any mistaken facts. Having different opinions is okay. I respect you for thinking in a way that I don't. This comment is just going to be me ranting about how this ending makes me really sad so there isn't much to read HAKSJDHKSJD but have fun!! [Disclaimer in place because last time I made this comment in a spoiler channel in a discord server I got blown up on by a few people because they disagreed] Also spoilers but hey if we're here we've probably seen the other endings A few things that that I noted for myself: -I can't say that this hit any of the children hardest. Given the situation, it would hurt them all, and rightfully so. Having another person in their friend group commit s**cide, just a bit after the group reformed, has got to give additional trauma from Mari's death. -It's also disturbing that Basil committed s**cide in the first place. The game really emphasizes [but doesn't exaggerate, for the most part] how much Basil needed Sunny to be there for him. Not to say that Sunny should have been; both of them are coping in their own way, and none of them are innocent for Mari's death. -We can assume Basil did this for two reasons. Because he is overwhelmed with guilt; showing the true danger of bottling up your issues. Something is a representation of this. Additionally, it can be assumed that Sunny finally came out of his home, and Basil may have had some hope that he could now help recover the friend group, only to see that Sunny is moving away. -They didn't wake Sunny up. This was probably Hero, but the group probably thought that Sunny didn't have to go through it all again, and would be better off moving and never knowing about it. Sunny, of course, wakes up. This is a minor point, but it hits home for me. I feel this is supported by what Hero says to Sunny later. -Aubrey probably thinks that it's her fault. I've seen a comment here already about it, and I'm going to elaborate. She's been harassing and bullying Basil, for a lack of better words, because she thinks he is a freak. She's on the floor apologizing, now, because she thinks that she made this happen. Aubrey will probably drift away from the rest of her gang, since they will probably be living reminders of Basil's death. It isn't easy to tell here if she'll stick with Kel and Hero, for the same reason. Because Sunny doesn't confess to the crime in this end, Aubrey will probably live the rest of her life thinking she caused Basil's death. -Kel crying. This is a minor point, but throughout the game, I believe this is only time those two sprites are used. Other times, it shows him barely tearing up, and he seems to bounce back quickly. Take losing Hector in Headspace, for example. In this scene, he's full on crying. It isn't something that major to some, but it impacted me. -Hero isn't holding himself together well from this either. From Kel's earlier dialogue, he talks about how poorly Hero acted after Mari's death. Over the course of the timeline, he's moved on, mostly. Basil's death has probably re-opened that emotional wound, but even now, he still cares about Sunny, telling him that he doesn't have to see what happened, and that he should go now, because it's going to be a fresh start for him. -Polly is there too. She's panicked and in grief, because she was Basil's caregiver, and now that he's dead, she most likely feels pain over not being there for him. Because Polly doesn't see Basil's Something [the reason Sunny probably can is because both Something's are a representation of their shared guilt and trauma] she may think that he committed s**cide because of other means. Polly most likely feels responsible for this, but not in the way Aubrey does. -There is nothing here. It isn't quite possible that the door literally disappears, but this is again, a call back to Sunny, who is shutting out the fact that his best friend is now dead. He doesn't want to face the truth, again. It's not clear what he does about it in this ending, though; whether he'll simply cease to remember Basil, because he was an accomplice in crime, or go through the same vicious cycle as he did with Mari in an attempt to reclaim his childhood again. -When Sunny returns home, in his room are tendrils hanging from the ceiling. At first glance, it might be Mari's hair, but when the game [as routine] shows you the room before putting Sunny to sleep, you can see a shadow of Basil's Something in the frame with the ceiling fan before you go to bed. -Welcome to White Space. It's unclear if Sunny will continue to return to White Space even after moving away. You'll notice the light bulb is missing when you enter. I haven't looked into this enough to know what it means, but if I do, expect an edit on this with more details. That aside, there's nothing to do, really, than stab yourself to wake up. -Alternatively, if Sunny picks up the steak knife before going to bed, he will not wake up in the morning, and instead, the game cuts to Sunny lying in bed, having committed s**cide, following in Basil's footsteps. The alarm clock blares through the credit section, and Sunny will never be able to silence it. Since the game follows him, we never get to see what happens to Aubrey, Kel, Hero, or the rest of the kids. -As Sunny wakes up in the morning, he will walk through the near empty house. When he leaves home for the last time, Something appears behind him when he walks through the door. It trails behind him as he walks down the driveway and into mom's car. This is most likely to symbolize how, in this ending, Sunny has not yet confronted the truth, and will live with this guilt until he dies. And so, we roll the credits. This is one of many Neutral endings in Omori. Thanks for reading!
The thought of Sunny just leaving the house with his somthing, representing the guilt he feels just makes me want to tear up, not to mention that Basil committed s**cide, making Sunny even more depressed.
"There is nothing There" I think this is moreso the work of OMORI, whose role as an entity is to mitigate the pain that the truth brings in SOMETHING. In the True route, the left chamber door in Sunny's home is invisible for most of the game, and the wall that occupies the door says, "There is nothing there". OMORI's capabilities in Sunny's mind (when he doesn't have complete control) are a bit unclear, but I believe he is able to mess with Sunny's perception of reality, time, and consciousness (the knife ending(s?) being a good example). It isn't until later down the line of the true route that the room becomes accessible, and this is after Omori takes over REDSPACE.
I got this ending first but I didn't check Basil's room or even the hallway after sleeping once so I didn't know Basil committed suicide until after some friends told me to replay this section and check the hallway. I was already bawling from the first one but learning that Basil killed himself just kept me crying. After that, I got the good ending and that only made me cry more.
If this is the neutral route then I can only imagine what horrors will happen in the Omori route (the route I am currently planning on doing since I finished Sunny’s route)
Omori route simply locks you into those "neutral" endings, but it does make a few changes! Remember to check the mirror. "Bad" ending comes specifically from a mistake made near the end of the true route. I think it's "the bad end" because it's sort of a "main" ending as opposed to the "alternate" endings that you so obviously aren't supposed to accept.
The OMORI Route gives us the same neutral endings, but you don't actually see anything. The only way you could guess Basil committed suicide is by The Stranger's "death" after his Bossfight.
I feel bad for them especially to Hero and Aubrey. First Hero, he'll be likely to blame himself for it because he's the oldest, he will think that he failed to save Mari and now Basil as well. Then Aubrey who used to bully Basil. She will probably blame herself for it and will be guilty about it for such a long time.
Omori is a truly special game. It perfectly balances phycological horror, a thrilling narrative, and typical RPG maker type gameplay that hides the true theme. Playing this game has actually left a impact on me no game has before. The story, is simply put, one of the greatest stories I have ever played in the past decade and has many powerful messages that can only be expressed through the interactive nature of video games. The writing for each character is absolutely phenomenal. After completing the game, Omori has left me in total awe and gave me hope for the future of video games. Omori will always hold a place in my mind, and my heart.
the neutral ending is so depressing, the fact you can think of the past; aubrey introducing basil into their friend group which was so happy up to his self inflicted death all because of you/sunny
“Why.. Why am I so useless?” when i replayed omori to get the neutral ending that line hit me hard, polly’s only task was to keep basil safe and protect him, yet he died.
saw some comments saying that the ambulance siren is for picking up basil. i honestly thought that it was because sunny caused an accident. i mean, it's right away after sunny got into the car. granted, i don't know how hospitals work in that place, but i suppose that they'd function 24/7, and that hero and co would call an ambulance, right away, instead of waiting till morning
What confuses me is: How did BASIL do it? He is seen with a MASSIVE hole in his stomach… but how could garden shears do so much damage? That scene of dead BASIL always sends shivers down my side, it just seem so surreal and depressing, knowing you’ve failed your job at saving BASIL, and failed at giving your friends conclusion. Not to mention the ambulance sirens in the background when you leave, being open to interpretation, is it for BASIL’s body, or someone else’s..? And all of that and STILL having the option to do the same to yourself in the WORST ENDING.
I'm telling you man the neutral ending is worse than the bad ending for some reason and there's another alternate ending to it where if you pick up the knife sunny kills himself in his sleep
Kel saying "Why does this keep happening to us?" absolutely breaks my heart. For Kel, Aubrey and Hero, this is by far the worst ending. Not only did they lose Mari to suicide (so they think), now Basil too... And if the player chooses to do so, Sunny kills himself right after. Over the course of one day and night cycle, they reform their close-knit friendships and regain their hope, only to have everything ripped away from them again.
you also have the option to make Sunny die as well if you pick up the steak knife in the kitchen when Sunny goes back to sleep, back to whitespace with Omori but no door so you click the red button to go to the next day and oh look, Sunny stabbed himself in his sleep
If I had a nickel for every psychological horror game where the teenage black-haired male protagonist gently opens the door to see his friend commit suicide, I'd have two nickels: which isn't weird but it's cool that it happened twice
Poor Aubrey was probably the one hit hardest, she's going to think her bullying caused all of this.
I think Hero will get a SOMETHING too, not to mention his dialogue had the SOMETHING font for a moment at 0:54, he's gonna break again
You guys know something is just irrational guilt and/or fear right? Of course that’d happen if half of their group died
@TAIYA WHEELING Like immense guilt, SOMETHING isn’t a individual person.

@@memorableman3709 Haha, it's an animatic with Sunny in it that I took a screenshot of and edited to have a flower crown and dead flowers in it.
The most disturbing and horrifying thing is that Basil probably suffered a good 1~5 mins before finally passing out from blood loss or whatever.
I can't believe that a 16-year-old kid didn't even scream in pain for once in that time.
Tbf, it’s basil we're talking about. Agonizing exclusively in private is practically his dayjob. It’s not THAT suprising he didn’t let out a wimper.

Not So Fun Fact: We have never really seen a crying sprite of Kel, until now. This must mean that he was putting up an act and pretending to be okay. When Basil killed himself, however, this facade was over. Kel's depression had broke out of its shell.

Horrible Hot Take
Kel is literally as repressive as Sunny, but he's an extrovert rather than an introvert.
Kel's face just made me cry-

OPINION INCOMING:
If we disagree, it's okay! Feel free to correct me if I have any mistaken facts.
Having different opinions is okay. I respect you for thinking in a way that I don't.
This comment is just going to be me ranting about how this ending makes me really sad so there isn't much to read HAKSJDHKSJD but have fun!!
[Disclaimer in place because last time I made this comment in a spoiler channel in a discord server I got blown up on by a few people because they disagreed]
Also spoilers but hey if we're here we've probably seen the other endings
A few things that that I noted for myself:
-I can't say that this hit any of the children hardest.

@@luciemajor7118 this is sad.. Basil was a good guy but WHY DID HE S**CIDE MAYBE THE SHEARS FOR THE PLANTS TO KILL HIMSELF
"There is nothing There"
I think this is moreso the work of OMORI, whose role as an entity is to mitigate the pain that the truth brings in SOMETHING.

Help why did this actually genuinely make me tear up D:

Omori but you don't get stabbed in the open eyeball.

Oh damn, i cared for Basil so much. This actually hurts to watch. Like this is exactly the reason why I refuse to play the bad endings in a game.
saw some comments saying that the ambulance siren is for picking up basil. i honestly thought that it was because sunny caused an accident. i mean, it's right away after sunny got into the car. granted, i don't know how hospitals work in that place, but i suppose that they'd function 24/7, and that hero and co would call an ambulance, right away, instead of waiting till morning
The fact that this was the first ending I got because I thought it was stupid that I could go rest is... ironic.

Its like that situation when the situation is so bad theres no good ending to it.
*"My thoughts will follow you into your dreams."*
And everyone got a something and more trauma.
