We all know Sunny is seething at the question. The real basil knows what he did. The basil in his head needs to stop trying to remind him. Stranger is already bad enough. What Sunny did was an _accident;_ basil made a conscious choice and effort to cover up his horrible mistake. But it broke basil, too, trying to rationalize and justify his actions; who knows how long it took for the regret to really sink in. Was it that same night? When sunny stopped coming to school? I would honestly love basil's version of the events and see his headspace and how the incident warped him. I got the impression he is more messed up than sunny and inherently always has been.
The spiders're actually a pretty good metaphor for basil helping sunny. Think about it, Basil's trying to be kind/helpful to the spiders by allowing them to be on him, but over time, more and more are on him, until they just consume him. Not unlike the guilt he felt by helping Sunny cover up Mari's death
Which is really frustrating because like Basil helping Sunny cover up Mari's death did nothing good for anyone so like he was just trying tob e kind but did something awful instead!!
Another thing to consider is that spiders, at least in dreams, usually represent our fears... In different escenarios it means different things, but always related to that.
1:57 ok but the fact that Basil is so innocent for thinking like "i'm probably scaring them" instead of being like angry at the spiders REALLY HURTS ME IDK DUDE---
All BASIL deaths we know of: Suicide (Real World during the Neutral endings) Crushed like a waterlmelon (Watermelon Area) Swarmed (And bitten) by spiders (Spider Area) Crushed (or decapitated) by elevator doors (Treehouse Area) Decapitated during screen transition (Raft Area) Beaten to death by "KEL" and "AUBREY" (Neighbor area) Edit: Cut open by OMORI (Cutscene where OMORI turns against SUNNY)
It's important to remember that Sunny has no control over what happens in black space since it literally represents his subconscious- it's why he hates the place so much and why such horrifying things happen there. The things that happen behind the doors all seem to be mere intrusive thoughts rather than legitimate conscious desires. Like, for example, the mewo room.
yes thank you for pointing out these are intrusive thoughts meant to be disturbing to sunny rather than sunny actually wanting basil to die!! sunny’s complicated feelings about basil (guilt over abandoning him, the trauma he associates with him, how he simultaneously imagines him as his childhood best friend/representation of repressed memories/a stranger he doesn’t recognize after the incident, both because of how horrifying it was and because they literally haven’t talked in years) are really interesting and seeing them reduced to just “sunny hates basil and wants him to die” is frustrating. like from a dreamworld perspective omori has to kill basil because his presence inevitably reminds sunny of the truth, but the psychological implications are way more interesting than just “sunny hates basil”
When I played though this part every death hit me hard After the spider death though I was basically in the mood of "BASI- Oh right.. how will you die this time..." His final death made me sad tho
the raft one was the worst imo, especially when riding it twice as you’re just floating along in silence with headless basil for like 30 seconds while creepy music plays
There's something particularly cold about it. In the other deaths Omori walks away. For the raft, he's non-chalantly sitting next to the dead body he just decapitated and can ride the raft with said body in tow over and over.
Omori represents all of sunny's repressed trauma, self hatred, and desire to isolate. There's definitely something to be said about how much Sunny like to imagine basil dying while he's "omori", and how in the good ending Sunny seems to want Basil to be happy too and to relieve him of his guilt. The cutscene in the secret happy ending where they both lose their "somethings" they both smile at each other shows that. Basil is also at his most "obsessed dependent lunatic" when he's surrounded by his something too or having a mental breakdown. What I'm trying to say is, I don't think sunny and basil hate each other, I just think their trauma has made what was once a sweet friendship into something much worse. Sunny is conflicted between hating Basil for being obsessed and dependent while Sunny wants to do nothing but isolate and distance himself, but also the part of Sunny that wants to recover and move on wants to help Basil too because they're friends. Basil has also been abandoned by his parents and his grandmother is on her death bed (its implied she even died) so it makes sense why he would cling onto Sunny, his closest friend, so badly.
I have a feeling that Basil coming up with the idea of covering up the reason Mari died might have something to do with Sunny/Omori imagining Basil getting killed.
That is also why sunny and omori fight for control in the true ending. I also think that the reason why basil helped sunny was because he had nobody else, and he couldn't lose sunny too. In the good ending, sunny wants basil to feel better because he has been through so much that he didn't have to. Basil could have ran off, or told the others, but he decided to help him, only causing himself more suffering.
"Oh Hi Omori! Im so glad your here to save me!" "Dude you died 15 times just give it up already" "Oh, this looks so cute, im gonna touch it!" "AHHHH ITS BITING MY ARM OFF AND IM DYING OF BLOOD LOSS HELP OMORI"
A lot of people interpret this as Sunny hating Basil. I don’t really get that, it just seems like a weird conclusion to draw. The opposite is true, Sunny sees Basil as one of the most important, cherished people in his life. They just have a scary shared secret. Basil is getting killed over and over again because he will eventually reveal the truth to Sunny, and Omori is trying to prevent Sunny’s repressed memories from resurfacing. This is destined to happen, so Basil is always gotten rid of after a certain time in the dream world. “The Flower Boy is always destined to seek and reveal the truth.”
Its sunny's head repeadedly blocking out the traumatic events. His brain kills basil right before he talks about the truth, to continue to keep it repressed from his mind.
Sunny don't want to be reminded the murderer of Mari, it's way to block a traumatic event and protect him, that's way every time basil want to talk about that omori (alter ego of sunny) kills him
Since he's my fav character, when i played through this part, i got so fuckin scared for after he kept dying and dying I cried after i finished that part for an hour.
The fact that Basil dies before he can say what's on his mind practically every time signifies that OMORI is still attempting to hide the truth away by killing BASIL before anything can be done. It's really horrifying.
5:15 literally made me shiver. His best friends were beating him to death and then acting normal after it was done. Is this really how Sunny feels abt Basil knowing the Truth?
the way i understand it, omori killing basil is basically just him protecting sunny from the truth. "the flower boy is always destined to seek and reveal the truth" it doesnt mean sunny hates basil or anything like that. clearly, he cares a lot about him. its just a representation of whats going on in his mind. suppressing memories.
With the context that Omori is trying to represent suppressing memories and Basil is kinda the source of these memories makes it almost comedic in hindsight. Like duke dastardly trying to stop the messenger pigeon. “Whoops! Guess we will never know what he was trying to say. Oh well”
anybody other than me noticed that all the times basil dies in black space, it represents sunny’s fears, his fear of heights is represented with basil getting his head slit in the elevator (the elevator is high up), sunny’s fear of spiders is represented with basil being eaten by spiders, and his fear of drowning is represented when basil dies well on the wood plank in the river, and when basil dies to his friends, it represents sunny’s fear of telling the truth about mari’s death.
Watching this again it didn´t feel scary but when I played that for the first time it traumatized me and I actually almost felt like throwing up. I was alone at home and played the game for hours forgetting everything around me. And I remember trying to desperately get Basil out of there savely. "There must be one room where I can save him" and everytime he died it made me sick. I love horror and nothing ever scares me... but this shit... this is a masterpiece.
"Oh Imma take the stairs real quick" *Falls to her death "Maybe I'll use the elevator instead" *gets fucking decapitated "Its not that high maybe I can jump of-
HIKIKOMORI SPOILERS BELOW!! Smol theory, but maybe the reason why there are so many Basils in Black Space in the first place has to do with the fact the game implies/pretty much says that Omori has been going thorugh the journey of looking for Basil with his friends over and over again, though many times he was unsuccessful and it led to the death of his friends, and now only remain as skeletons (ex. the skeletons seen throughout the game such as in Sweetheart's dungeon and in the Slime Sisters' labatory, as well as one of the skeletons in the Abyss being labeled "Aubrey?"). Maybe Basil is "respawned" in a sense every time Omori restarts the dream world, but since he keeps on banishing Basil into Black Space, there are now multiple dreamworld Basils lost in Black Space, each one from a different time Omori reset White Space.
I wonder if Basil dying over and over is the manifestation Sunny's desire to cover up the evidence Basil has, or if it's Sunny's guilt for abandoning him after Mari's death.
I'm still mad that in my playthrough, I decided to just open the red door instead of exploring more of Black Space. there's so much creepy scenery I missed out on
Personally the only ones I find creepy are the elevator one and Aubrey murdering him. The elevator one haunted me cause when it happened I tried to talk to basil and it just said "uuuuh gaaa mmn." Or something along those lines it shows that he's still conscious enough to make sound when his head was literally chopped off. And the baseball bat one also haunts me cause everyone just acts like brutally murdering your friends is normal and hero just practically says, "ope, Aubrey and kel just bashed Basil's head in.... OH WELL!" And Also kel is such a nice character and it hurts to see him murder basil! But it is kinda funny when you think about the fact basil is now the Kenny of Omori.
Worst part is that I thought Kel put up the middle finger at Basil as if Omori is incredibly mad at Basil for even being involved in the trauma, and then Kel threw the rocks to make it very personal.
sprinkle some diced basil on the donut some watermelon juice in a cup and for the main course some tenderized steak this recipe was brought to you by the local spiders in the top right corner of your closet
The watermelon area made my brain stop working after screaming No The elevator area thing made me hold on to my neck, I felt his pain there for some reason
I will never get over the fact that Omori confused Basil with a watermelon 😂😂😂 when that happened I literally stared at the screen for like five minutes before freaking out
This was the first time the game really sent me into a shock, after smashing watermelon Basil I had to take a few seconds to process what had just happened lol But I loved these scenes because after all Omori was created to cover up the truth and basically protect Sunny from it, so Basil trying to tell Omori the truth is somehow a threat to Sunny's world, where Omori is king
Me telling my parents about black space: so you go into all these rooms and end up seeing basil blah blah blah etc “And you kill him?” Me: well yes but no.
I love the elevator one. It isn't a realistic death to happen in the real world, but it's still macabre regardless. It's the kind of thing you'd think about in your ordinary day like "I wonder what would happen if my head got stuck in the doors here" and that makes sense seeing as it's taking place in someones mind
Sad thing is that this has happened so many times before, this is just normal to Omori. He doesn't care that basil is dying, not only cause of the story, but because he's seen it happen before so many times.

Sunny don't want to be reminded the murderer of Mari, it's way to block a traumatic event and protect him, that's way every time basil want to talk about that omori (alter ego of sunny) kills him
Since he's my fav character, when i played through this part, i got so fuckin scared for after he kept dying and dying
I cried after i finished that part for an hour.
The fact that Basil dies before he can say what's on his mind practically every time signifies that OMORI is still attempting to hide the truth away by killing BASIL before anything can be done.
It's really horrifying.
That moment when you’re crushing watermelons but you accidentally crush your friend instead.
ITS THAT TREND 💀
Man, I hate it when that happens!
5:15 literally made me shiver. His best friends were beating him to death and then acting normal after it was done. Is this really how Sunny feels abt Basil knowing the Truth?
It's just his subconscious, like intrusive thoughts
the way i understand it, omori killing basil is basically just him protecting sunny from the truth. "the flower boy is always destined to seek and reveal the truth"
it doesnt mean sunny hates basil or anything like that. clearly, he cares a lot about him. its just a representation of whats going on in his mind. suppressing memories.
With the context that Omori is trying to represent suppressing memories and Basil is kinda the source of these memories makes it almost comedic in hindsight. Like duke dastardly trying to stop the messenger pigeon. “Whoops! Guess we will never know what he was trying to say. Oh well”
Duke Dastardy hahahahaha
0:36 so THATS why Basil gets called a watermelon by the fandom… jeeeez 😟
damn basils a herb and a watermelon 😔 i eat both all the time
@@animationsandvnsbasil cannibalism
anybody other than me noticed that all the times basil dies in black space, it represents sunny’s fears, his fear of heights is represented with basil getting his head slit in the elevator (the elevator is high up), sunny’s fear of spiders is represented with basil being eaten by spiders, and his fear of drowning is represented when basil dies well on the wood plank in the river, and when basil dies to his friends, it represents sunny’s fear of telling the truth about mari’s death.
The fact that this is 8 minutes long. 8 minutes of glorious glorious Basil death.
A few minutes of this is just talking you know-

Watching this again it didn´t feel scary but when I played that for the first time it traumatized me and I actually almost felt like throwing up. I was alone at home and played the game for hours forgetting everything around me. And I remember trying to desperately get Basil out of there savely. "There must be one room where I can save him" and everytime he died it made me sick. I love horror and nothing ever scares me... but this shit... this is a masterpiece.
where are all of you coming from..?

Basil is the kind of guy who is just too sweet for that world, tho maybe so useless that he could die in any possible way.
We love him anyway
he wasnt useless what

Undertale flashbacks*
we don't have proof OMORI does the banishing, the fact that the Black Space game segment even occurs seems to suggest it actually wasn't OMORI
@@somethingAccurate I'm pretty sure it's Omori. He has always been the part of Sunny that doesn't want to remember the truth

5:27 SJSJDJDK this is how I imagine aubrey bullying basil in the real word
That's murder
Jesus Christ that's way too brutal-

SJSJDJDK murder
Aubrey doesn't use her bat but man. brutal.
The amount of metaphors in this game is honestly impressive
0:34 I cried out "NOO BASIL" when he shattered to pieces
I wonder if Basil dying over and over is the manifestation Sunny's desire to cover up the evidence Basil has, or if it's Sunny's guilt for abandoning him after Mari's death.
im pretty sure it is :P
Pretty sure it's the first option because the last death of headspace basil is beign stabbed by Omori in the red space thingy
Basil: Thanks, Omori! Let's go home!
Omori: Well, about that...
You will never reach the truth....

even though it's a funny jojo meme the point of basil dying is literally giorno's quote omg thanks
Worst part is that I thought Kel put up the middle finger at Basil as if Omori is incredibly mad at Basil for even being involved in the trauma, and then Kel threw the rocks to make it very personal.
sprinkle some diced basil on the donut
some watermelon juice in a cup
and for the main course some tenderized steak
this recipe was brought to you by the local spiders in the top right corner of your closet
i- well that was creative
Warning: our elevator is malfunctioning right now, not recommended for use
it hurts to see my boy Basil die in so many harsh ways.
Basil is just the Kenny of Omori.
He's also the Snaley of backspace.
I started crying when Basil tried calming down the spiders :(
The melon and aubrey one had me so shocked I almost cried 😭
this gives me "100 Ways to kill (Character)" vibes
Or "_____ Ways to Die in ______" videos
The watermelon area made my brain stop working after screaming No
The elevator area thing made me hold on to my neck, I felt his pain there for some reason
I will never get over the fact that Omori confused Basil with a watermelon 😂😂😂 when that happened I literally stared at the screen for like five minutes before freaking out
That spider one is just horrifying
This was the first time the game really sent me into a shock, after smashing watermelon Basil I had to take a few seconds to process what had just happened lol
But I loved these scenes because after all Omori was created to cover up the truth and basically protect Sunny from it, so Basil trying to tell Omori the truth is somehow a threat to Sunny's world, where Omori is king
The one where basil turns into a melon then squished Hiself reminds me of the cake trend
8 minutes of basil dying.. i don't need it
The watermelon popping one scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it
Me telling my parents about black space: so you go into all these rooms and end up seeing basil blah blah blah etc
“And you kill him?”
Me: well yes but no.
"They killed Basil"
"You bastards!"
BRUH HOW DO BASIL BE RESPAWNING? HE USING CHEATS BRUH
No, he's working with Monika, she has a backup of his character file so if he dies she can fix that
I love the elevator one. It isn't a realistic death to happen in the real world, but it's still macabre regardless. It's the kind of thing you'd think about in your ordinary day like "I wonder what would happen if my head got stuck in the doors here" and that makes sense seeing as it's taking place in someones mind
they shoulda added teachers sleeping in schools
I remember playing the watermelons with my sibling and they just stop dead in their tracks and scream “HuUuuuUuuuh?”
Basil dies so many times it’s triggering 😭😭
This part of the game hurt me the most
0:35 when this happened in the game for me, my jaw DROPPED😭
Sad thing is that this has happened so many times before, this is just normal to Omori. He doesn't care that basil is dying, not only cause of the story, but because he's seen it happen before so many times.
Basil looks at the ads for extra lives
oh my god they killed basil! you bastards!!
Nuzzledash: This video contains gore.
Me: What do you mean?
*Few seconds later*
*...*
I don’t think Omori himself doesn’t like to see Basil as a “Cinnamon Roll” as fans usually see him as debating who’s the real Cinnamon Roll here 😋
Goddamnit… I know Omori symbolizes Sunny’s inner demons, regrets, and trauma, but still… killing Basil in all these cruel ways is just going too far…
5:25 Aubrey really said “Beat that boy with a bat *SMACK* ”
Kenny: Finally, A Worthy Opponent
My dad is into OMORI, and I am too. When he came across these scenes he LAUGHED HIS FUCKIN ASS OFF.
"Omori, I've come to bargain."
THEY ARE SUCH BRUTAL DEATHS THOUGH-
4:57 hero uses charm then kel throws balls and then Aubrey smashes
I only cracked the watermelon for the key........ I only cracked it for the key......
Love how each one actually genuinely is worse than the last
Edit: except for the spiders, THAT was fucked
