Dolly & Emmylou went to Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999 & 2000 respectively. CMHF needs to induct Linda while we can all celebrate with and for her. She earned it both musically and by promoting & bringing many more fans to the genre. It would also put the TRIO in a permanent place of honor. Come on Nashville, it's the right thing to do!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done. Three of the greatest voices EVER, being backed up by some world-class musicians. Can't ask for much more. I was so glad that Carson gave them the chance to do three songs so each of them could take the lead on one song. I miss him. Those who THINK they are taking his place are just extremely poor pretenders.
There’s just something about Linda’s voice that moves me more than anyone else. I’ve literally found myself wiping tears away not knowing what the hell just happened.
Linda MAKES us feel our feelings with her singing. Couple that with memories of life events around the song or her era of singing and the eye sprinklers can turn on. Whether happy or sad tears there's not a darn thing wrong with that either, just being a human.
8:27 Watch Linda, her right hand and the microphone. She does this in all live shows on video out there. She is every so subtly moving the mic up down left and right to perfectly position it for the vocal at that time. 1/8th inch here, 1/4 inch there. Few singers have ever done this. A true master of her craft.
Lee Sklar bass, David Lindley on guitar, mando, Russ Kunkel on drums, Dan Dougmore, steel guitar, Mark O'Connor on the fiddle/mando, Herb Pedersen on acoustic guitar. An all star cast. Together they may have played on over 300k tracks in their careers. (Lee Sklar alone has 25k)
THANK YOU for pointing that out! I still recall, now almost 20 years ago now, when the Presidential election was undecided between Bush & Gore, there were videos of Mark O'Connor playing for the Gore supporters and of Wayne Newton (ugh!!) singing for the Bush supporters. And of course, I recall Mr. O'Connor as to other recordings as well.
At the time, musical acts appearing on "The Tonight Show' were allotted two songs, but here, they gave the Trio three songs, so that each of the ladies got to do a song where she could sing lead.
Emmylou Harris, a voice like an angel, sounds really great. Great great voices also those of Linda Ronstad and Dolly Parton. But Emmiylou has got something more shaking my heart.
Three true blessed voices. This music is so beautiful. The band is so good. Where is the good night entertainment like Carson was...... it isn't here now.
I love these artists. I have had the pleasure of seeing Emmylou a number of times and Linda once in Boston. So on my bucket list is to see Dolly live. I could listen to them all day every dqy❤
Herb Pedersen played Rhythm guitar, banjo, and was band leader here. He once worked with the Dillards. Not sure if he ever appeared on Andy Griffith show with the Darlings (the Dillards). Dan Dunsmore played steel and dobro on a lot of Linda Ronstadt songs.
Dolly Parton is my favourite artist of all the times, I starts listening her songs since thirty-five years ago, still all the songs which I listening is afresh for me.
Whether a complete verse and bridge or a 12 bar riff instrumental bluegrass is known for "featuring" the various instruments in the course of a tune. Check it out.
So true. There was no "autotune", synthesizer instruments, screamers, or provocative wardrobe gimmicks. Just real musicians playing real instruments in real time. Mostly it was 3 beautiful voices from 3 beautiful women with 3 beautiful spirits. This NEVER gets old.
Emmy Lou amazes me with her lack of facial expression, movement, or anything external that would result from the fabulous sounds she produces! But when Dolly, Emmy Lou & Linda sang Freight Train there were so many times their blend was so complete I couldn't tell who or if anyone of them had the "lead!" SO WONDERFUL!!! God bless Johnny for having them do this!
@sarahspeaks144 LOL ... #dollymovingeverythingthatcan move !!! True ... Dolly is definitely the one in the trio intent on "standing out" - she has the lead, musically, is dressed in red, and "moves everything that can be moved" lol ... but I think I was SO focused on the sound that I pretty much ignored all the details of Dolly's "look at me" efforts ;-)
Have always loved this album and now to see the superb musicians collaborating with them -gorgeous music! The fiddle player is outstanding and every one of the musicians so musical.
This entire album is inspiring, as is this television performance -- top class folks on those instruments, and then the 3 grand dames of country-style! All through the years, this album has rocked, and so many of us sing these songs because of the musical mentoring of these fine folks.
Dolly was gorgeous in that dress...so petite but her hourglass figure is outstanding..Linda and Emmylou you ladies are some singing songbirds..good job ladies
I love Linda RONSTADT and her voice more than any other singer of her generation! I have a picture of LINDA RONSTADT ON MY T- SHIRT PROMOTING MY PODCASTS 1-23 ,”EARS ON SANTA BARBARA PODCAST ON RUclips! Her VOICE IS HEAVENLY AND IT SENDS GOOSEBUMPS THROUGH MY WHOLE BODY! The COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME NEEDS TO INDUCT LINDA KRONSTADT IMMEDIATELY
Three of my favorite singers, two that I’ve seen in concert ( Emmylou and Kinda) and an extra bonus, someone I knew years ago, Mark O’Conner, and David Lyndley who I lived near for years and saw often.
Growing up, I always thought I was too intelligent, sophisticated, and had better taste than to listen to, much less enjoy, country music. Then came Trio and my arrogance was shattered.
"Blissing out"...now that's a phrase that's going to enter my vocabulary! Ms. Ronstadt gave us everything she had and then some. Just wish she could still sing with her friends.

I so agree with you!
Amen Carson was the king of late night rip Johnny
Amen.....no virtue signaling political BS just pure entertainment
👍👍👍👍👍
All 3 are great with their own special talents. But I must say, Linda Ronstadt is the greatest, most diverse female vocalist of her generation.
3 of the clearest purist voices I've ever heard.
That they are contemporaries and managed to collaborate is PHENOMINAL.
Three. Voices from the heavens with more talent than any female performer going forward
I remember the video and it has haunted me for years😢
There’s just something about Linda’s voice that moves me more than anyone else.

A true master of her craft.
I'm pretty sure everyone on that stage reached legend status
Russ Kunkel on drums.
Lee Sklar on Bass
David Lindley on guitar
They have backed so many big names.
Carole King
James Taylor
Jackson Browne
Etcetera
And Mark O'Connor
They chose fabulous musicians, and who wouldn’t want to play with these three songbirds...
I am originally from Belgium this is the first time seeing this. This indeed The Most Beautiful 3 Female voice ever recorded.
Every one of them as legendary as the ladies.
Thanks for the details.
What I love about these women is that they are all strong singers with distinctive voices but they also harmonize beautifully.
Perfection, Jimmie Rodgers would have a tear in eye had he been here to listen. Linda Ronstadt was the finest female singer ever to grace this planet
How do we know he wasn't? 🚂
yes a trio will never be perfect without Linda Ronstadt
Music can't possibly ever be better than this
And autotune hadn't even been invented yet. Imagine that! Back then singers actually had to be able to sing!
@@maryannanderson2213and those stage musicians had to play without a sythesizer present to cover up their errors. Then again these guys had none.
Pretty tight band. And three of the finest female voices we've the pleasure to enjoy.🙂
I love this
Lee Sklar on gb, David Lindley on lg, Russ Kunkel, dr, Dan Dougmore, steel g. Don't recognize the rest.
Looks like Mark O'Connor on the fiddle. Or someone stole his hat.
@@JanDreier-HH Herb Pedersen on acoustic guitar, I believe.
WHEN was this?
Emmylou Harris soulful solo is so haunting... Priceless trio
Emmylou is all soul. Man, i love every era of her music.
"Red Dirt Girl" brings me to tears every time.
@lnl3gotta go dig that up ! Thank you 237
Didn't want it to end.
Well stated. Have watched this MANY times. Each time is great. Must be like what they say about skydiving jumps: There are no boring ones.
Mark O'Connor on violin. A musical genius.
Let's not forget his mandolin work on the second song! 🎶
LOVE mark O'Connor!
@@dipierro4 Like anyone really gives a crap what the celebrities opinions or politics are we just want them to entertain us
@@diakristy6262 I remember when Mark played county fairs in Washington in the 1970s
When these three lady's sing together the world stops
Linda had the most lovely yet powerful voice of all, back in the 1970's.
At the time, musical acts appearing on "The Tonight Show' were allotted two songs, but here, they gave the Trio three songs, so that each of the ladies got to do a song where she could sing lead.
There is just no words to describe these three voices accompanied by such a great group of musicians.
Emmy Lou will always be first and perfect.
That’s the iconic Mark O’Connor on fiddle.
The band is KILLING it.
Utter perfection! Three of my most favourite singers of all time. Together they are peerless.
Kick them I'm in the ass .
Impressive that they got this big a block of time - speaks to their collective greatness.
And credit to Johnny Carson for recognizing their artistry and ultimately preserving a rare live performance.
@@51pogoand Ed for giving up his seat
Linda will always be on my mind forever....😇
Pure gold...and that goes for every person on that stage. I’ve never seen so much talent together on one stage.
Damn Linda. I love her
Emmylou Harris, a voice like an angel, sounds really great. Great great voices also those of Linda Ronstad and Dolly Parton. But Emmiylou has got something more shaking my heart.
Three legends right there singing in amazing harmonies. They were backed by some pretty impressive musicians too. 👍👍
And Mark O'Connor legendary fiddle. Angelic voices and a heck of a band.
Three true blessed voices. This music is so beautiful. The band is so good. Where is the good night entertainment like Carson was...... it isn't here now.
Amen...
I grew up 60,70's real blues freak and love rock, jazz and big band from 30's 40's. I love um all together or alone.
This never grows old.
Even the guys doing their thing fine as ever..watch as they move these fine singing wonders along with encore and more..
Love them all. Linda's phrasing is just impeccable.
I love these artists. I have had the pleasure of seeing Emmylou a number of times and
Linda once in Boston. So on my bucket list is to see Dolly live. I could listen to them all
day every dqy❤
Country music at it's finest !!!!!
A lot of what passes for (new) country today only needs one accompanying instrument, a 750 CFM Leaf Blower.
This is catching lightning in a bottle. But with harmony
Three of the best voices of my lifetime. You can keep your Three Tenors. These ladies are the bomb.
What a powerhouse band... David Lindley, Lee Sklar.... I wish I knew the others...
Russ Kunkel on drums.
The all star band with the Girls is Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, David Lindley, Steve Fishell, Herb Peterson and John Starling.
Wow... Leland sklar had dark hair at one time....
Pretty. sure that is Mark O'Connor on fiddle.
Yep, these ladies hired a gang of beginners loitering around... What a constellation of fine musicians !
@@oldwest517 sure is, then he switches to mandolin. the guy started as a guitar prodigy then moved on to fiddle etc what a legend!
@@oldwest517 Yep.
three most sensational voices..brings touching memories..😇 three unforgetable female legend singers.

Marc O’Connor.

No matter what genre you favor, this is undeniably beautiful music. So much talent!
These women are so lovely. They're the finest singers of all time. I love their harmony
The best ever. The most powerful voices and classiest ladies in music!

The harmonies and the Band, Awesome!!!!!
And the fiddler is super!

What a trio of iconic voices thanks Ladies ❤
Would've loved to see this trio.
The female Willburys if you think about it
Linda was one of Johnny's favorite singers. All three were great but IMHO Linda was the best singer of the three by far
Dolly was gorgeous in that dress...so petite but her hourglass figure is outstanding..Linda and Emmylou you ladies are some singing songbirds..good job ladies

Absolute magic. My mom & I loved this collaboration so much. This reminds me of her.
This was the only performance with all these backing musicians.
and today - what kind of music we have ? the good times are gone. The sixties will never come back.
These ladies just warm my heart. And I'm seeing some backup musicians who are treasures also. Wow! 🎶💗

Linda is by far the best singer in this trio but is just blissing out on the harmonies. Love that woman! Lol
"Blissing out"...now that's a phrase that's going to enter my vocabulary!
