    I'm not a fan of glass in the water. But what's done is done. You could silence your critics on this by showing in future videos how you are doing environmentally friendly stuff. Keep doing what makes you happy!

      Glass in the water? big deal. Glass on the dock? that's a bigger deal, yet easier to clean up. Glass on the beach or in water where people may walk... well that could be a deal ... diesel fuel in the water, that would be worse. stuff happens... the ceremony was fun/nice.
      Lone Wolf is an odd fellow. He is reading this site, probably watching the video and complaining about what he is reading .... doh!

      AC ~ Guys, do yourself a favor and speak to the 80%. There are 10% on either end that you cannot please no matter what you do.
      BTW- glass is about 80% sand. Just give it time :)

      DAM FLA Honestly our response shouldn't be taken as us being mad or a rebuttal. We are disappointed we let glass into the water and happy people called us out for it. And we're not just saying that - We mean it. What makes us disappointed is when people point fingers when their hands are far dirtier than ours. We spent a week protesting the DAPL to find other "water protectors" there who were driving gas guzzling trucks that pollute the environment. People don't really care about their impact on the environment. They'll come up with some excuse saying they can't afford a hybrid or electric or can't bike to work or they can't be vegan because they need animal protein in their diet. That's bullshit. If you live in the US you're in the top 10% of wealth in the world regardless of social class. No one wants to do a little introspection and see they are polluting just as bad as those they berate. It's disappointing to us and we want to be a small part of people becoming more aware of their environmental impact. -Ryan

    Hi kids~ Filled with emotion as I watched a young couple make such a impact on many of us who wished we'd done the same. I visioned myself as a young Ryan asking why I didn't do this or something like this earlier in life So, for that, I thank you! You have brought many questions to the forefront of this gray matter. And then you cap it off with your friend who survived cancer and is living life large! You couldn't have done a more perfect video! BRAVO! Ü

    I like that you followed tradition with a renaming ceremony to appease King Neptune. Coming from a Sailor and a member of the Shellback community thank you for sticking with tradition and doing things properly. I enjoy watching your videos and look forward to the many adventures you guys have. May the Gods keep you safe, your bellies full and your sails fuller. Fair winds and following seas. On a side note when you do start sailing I recommend using The Marine Weather Center for your weather updates for the waters around the Caribbean.

    Caught up with these videos - wow 20k subscribers and only 8 vids, pretty impressive! Two things - thanks for the incidental nostalgia as the Hunter berthed opposite your boat is a model I owned until Super Storm Sandy ate it. Second, on your passage adventure through the lake - more nostalgia as I experienced something very very similar when I hoisted sail for the first time, and learned the 1st rule of sailing: More wind, less sail; less wind, more sail. Thanks, and best of luck to you.

    Congratulations! Watching your video makes me so excited for the day I can eventually launch my wreck of a boat after an extensive refit, I can't wait but still have much to do. I look forward to seeing your adventures, ups and downs.
    As for the bottle, don't sweat it, you were excited and having fun, the world won't stop spinning. There's a lot worse than a little glass in our oceans. All yachties no matter how careful are guilty of some pollution. Burning and spilling (accidents happen) diesel, oil, gas, grease. All the paints, varnishes and copper coats we use. Flushing raw sewerage, soaps and detergents into the sea. Losing various bits and pieces, fenders, rope, usually plastics. Not to mention the boats themselves that last forever, how many abandoned yachts litter our coastlines? We can ALL be more careful.
    Keep enjoying yourselves. :-)
    P.S Britannia still rules the waves!

    FYI --- As a tradition, many yachts fly the "Ensign" flag, rather than the "Stars and Stripes"..."A modification of the national flag and ensign but with a fouled anchor in a circle of thirteen stars in the canton, was created by Act of Congress in August 1848 as a flag to be used by licensed U.S. yachts." Anyway, you had lots of friends over, so have fun on 'Lucidity' and sail safe...

    They sell special bottles at west marine and I assume other places that are scored and made of glass made from sugar that aren't nearly as dangerous and dissolve in the water.

  • @HighMesaTrader

    Good on your rename. Now, next time you christen a vessel wrap the bottle in a burlap bag, nor glass on the vessel, dock, or water. Get your gear on, retrieve the sharp glass from the mooring pier bottom. Might just cut someone badly. Good sailing.

    A Florida marina in July is hot, is your portable A/C unit giving you the cooling you need? With fans in the cabin , you maybe able to get just below 80. My guess it runs 24/7 in July.

    • @AbandonComfort
      @AbandonComfort  7 лет назад +1

      You're damn right it runs 24/7! Haha it surprisingly keeps us plenty cold at night. I think we see 77 some nights but on average probably 80 at night inside the aft cabin. We have 3 fans, two really small ones and the other is the size of a basketball. Gets the job done! We'll be anchoring for majority of our cruising life.

    • @dawn2788
      @dawn2788 7 лет назад

      I see many sailboats, at the marina, have a large tarp (20ft or so) tented over the boat top cabin area. I suppose this would reduce direct sun from heating up the inside. Wonder how much it helps?

    I think you are meant to write the old name of the boat on something and throw it in the water, so it can slowly erase the old name from King Neptune's archives. Only then, a different boat can use that name again. At least, that's what we did on our boat. I really liked the video, thank you!

    In the movie industry they make bottles based on sugar. Harmless when they are smashed on somebody's head (think: actors in a bar fight). If its dropped in the sea, that bottle (sugar) are eaten by bacterias in no time.

    heya AC! i was hoping to ask you guys to share how you're financing this. The lady and i are full steam ahead with our 26 foot sail boat (to start!) with goals to splash down in spring next year after a refit, and in less than a decade tackling full time live aboard cruising around the world. The problem is neither of us is sure how we're going to afford it. We know about the wildly different ways others are cashing in but i'm extremely curious what your plans are.
    Also, thank you. Your series is by far her favorite and you've helped me eliminate a fair amount of her anxiety about the lifestyle... she wants to travel the world but this method i think has her stuck like an anchor on a coral rock. Not impossible to fix and make right but definitely stubborn!

      2. Being frugal. Our total monthly expenses are around $1500 on the high end.
      Can't emphasize both of these enough. There's no shortcuts or get rich quick scheme here. Get rid of debt and learn what spending makes you happy and what spending is purely convenience & comfort. Hope this helps!!

      Abandon Comfort will you be maintinaing work while sailing then or is the 1500 part of a kitty that you're sailing from.

      Good question :) We'll be producing weekly episodes once we're doing this full-time (which will be next month) and we'll make around $1,000 a month from Patreon net fees. On top of that we make roughly $250 a month via ads on the episodes. And we'll have roughly 10k saved before leaving for emergencies. Our boat will be virtually brand new after the refit so we don't foresee any huge problems with the boat. Let me know if I can help with any other $ details - Ryan

      Abandon Comfort that brings up another question she had... your Instagram is very busy... is that how you got your followship so quickly. I've seen other patreon pages with almost no followship but great content. I'm personally letting a high risk investment that is returning well right now mature for a few years to serve both as a down payment and liveable kitty... if I could have a patreon page myself that performed like that I could weather most any storm while not sacrificing quality of life. lastly she did express a great deal of interest in meeting you guys and seeing your boat and I was curious if such arrangements could be made when you're settling in so to speak.

    Another great video thank you. I hope others will consider simply pouring some champagne over the bow for their christening. This will keep the environmental Gods much happier. Also anyone that needs to dive in their slips will be happy to not have a lot of glass on the bottom under their boat. Best of luck with the new adventure!

    Glad you did a proper renaming ceremony...from experience, I will NEVER rename a boat again without performing this ceremony. EVERY person that I have ever met that did not do this? DISASTER...myself included. :(

    thanks for showing us the exciting moment. I don't honestly care about the glass in the water people will constantly have something to complain about. I'm glad for both of you and look forward to your next adventures. A suggestion, maybe do a vote off by the viewers as to top places you should visit? Another vote off for top things we want to see at ports. I think that would be a great way to enjoy this great adventure with us. happy sailing looking forward to the next episode.

    Can I ask what faith you are ? Also why not make the ceremony from your Faith to christen the boat ,instead of from mythology of the Greek Gods ? Do you believe in the Greek Gods ??
