The story is more than just about the human greed. Disclaim: :this is just a fiction developed based off Journey to the West, not actually related to religion. Jin Chanzi the monk=>the previous incarnation of Tang SanZang Turtle spirit=>the previous incarnation of Yellow Brow, and the turtle wasn’t his true form. He just temporarily appeared as turtle. The monk and the turtle, they were Dharma brothers practicing Buddhism under the same lineage. That’s why the monk called him 师兄(Shi Xiong/Senior Brother) in the Chinese dub. They had differing views over human nature and the turtle believed that humans were inherently evil (humans are evil by nature->therefore they will turn greedy and have bad deed eventually), and the turtle had very twisted obsession to win the debate. To prove himself right, he descended into the mortal realm and appeared as a giant turtle, purposely letting the impoverished villagers capture him. Then he started showing off his super natural powers including healing, secreting pearls, granting youth and beauty, fishing from sea using water bending etc. Being plagued with poverty for so long, the impoverished villagers started insanely worshipping him as the Buddha’s avatar (which is a lie and going against Buddha’s teaching). The insatiable desires grew as much as the lives of the people there were bettered. Instead of offering guidance and teaching people to grow wiser and be self-resilient, the giant turtle intentionally gave them the easy way out and cultivated their greed and made them heavily dependent on him. At the end, the villagers lost their sanity as he expected. And he proudly said to his junior brother Jin Chanzi that he won the debate and proved that humans were simply evil. Jin Chanzi criticised him for “ inverting the consequence and cause” i.e. creating a desired consequence and to prove his own belief of the existence of an evil nature within man. Ps: [祸乱人心, 倒果为因 / sowing misguidance among people to cause chaos, inverting the consequence and cause] is the original line in the Chinese dub got translated as “ choose means over ends”

I thought it was about a story of greed but by the end it was for vindication. The turtle knew that the village was suffering and instead of freeing them of their suffering he made them suffer more all to win a bet that humans are evil. He did not win. Only made an example.

Jin Chanzi won this debate.Yellow Brow presented a terrifying appearance and intentionally exposed the jewelry inside, but people did not kill him and even enshrined him, establishing rules. These kindness, He pretended didn't exist, intentionally guided someone to break the rules, and then he say, 'Humans are really evil.'. In fact, without the concept of kindness, there would be no concept of evil. Someone first established the rules of kindness and expected people to abide by them. Only those who break the rules are called evil. If the rules did not exist from the beginning, they could not be broken. All humans follow instincts like wild lions and elephants. You won't judge an elephant as evil, you won't judge a baby as evil.
concept of kindness, there would be no concept of evil - this is a western ideology. Do not be confused it with Buddhism or Daoism. Buddhism speak plainly about cause and effect, not good or evil. Daoism speak about the way of "nature". Think you are confused good and evil with Yin and Yang.
it is more like salvation and suffering when it comes to Buddhism. Yellowbrow was arguing with Jinchanzi whether humanity deserved salvation. He rigged his experiment to show that humanity deserved suffering, while Jinchanzi took his journey to prove the opposite.
Yellowbrow argued that Immortals are inherently superior to mortals in character especially yet he did something a two bit redditor would do so very much so. Yellowbrow played himself.
I think yellowbrow triggered the man to cut him open. Before the poor man went crazy with the knife, the animation is like casting a spell that empties the mind. Yellowbrow probably did not like he was about to lose because people falling in line and getting civilized. But then it only takes one evil for everyone to follow.
You can see the man's jacket is pulled by an invisible force: the turtle pushed him over the edge. I like how complex that made the turtles bet: humans did eventually give in to greed, but he cheated. How long would it have taken without his push? He made it nearly impossible for them to win, choosing an impoverished place and instead of teaching them anything that could better them, lavishing them with excessive wealth and fortune
Yellow brow reversed the logics of karma, he wants to prove human are greedy, which is the result he wants to prove. But Jin Chanzi claimed the greeds among human are actually the reason and cause, instead of result. Yellow brow used the greeds of human to achieve the result he wants to prove. This is like a scenario that you are going to find a problem when you already know the answer. With out yellow brow’s involvement, those civilians are probably not going to devoured by greeds.

@until-w4m Not exactly hidden but rather contained by each person sense of morality. Not every poor person steals, not every thief is driven by greed. The turtle is not a fuse, he is gasoline slowly spray on a pile of dried leaves, a temptation that slowly warped the villagers morality.
okay, yes, human's greed is limitless. BUT the turtle did something to win the bet against Jinchanzi. 2:13 you can see something pull his shirt, something blind his eyes. I think the turtle did that. On the surface, this story tells of humans killing giant turtles that constantly bestow their wealth on them because of their greed for wealth. But the final outcome reveals a deeper meaning of this story. The old turtle is Huangmei's reincarnation, who deliberately lured humans with wealth to make them obtain without effort in order to prove that human nature is greedy and cannot be changed for good through Buddhist teachings. From the very beginning, he deliberately adopted means to stimulate people's inner greed in order to prove his theory was correct. It is similar to the story of shooting an arrow first and then drawing a target. So this story is not about human greed like the first one, but about Huangmei's obsession. He did everything he could to prove himself right to Jinchanzi, which corresponds to the Buddhist concept of obsession as one of the three poisons.(The first story corresponds to greed, and the second story corresponds to anger) In detail, you can see that when the person who took a knife to hurt the old turtle made his first move, his collar was pulled forward. At the same time, the eyes of the old turtle glowed, suggesting that he was casting a spell and manipulating the first person to harm himself in order to lure others into action.Meanwhile, in the subsequent scene where he falls dead, if you reverse the camera and look at it, you can see that his mouth is tilted up when he dies, smiling because he firmly believes that he has won again.
when he first show his blood could turn to treasure 0:42, the official didn't kill him, he saw no good in mankind; when he showed his healing power 0:58, people did not kill him, he saw no good in mankind; when he gave plentyful food 1:10, people did not force him to provide more, he saw no good in mankind; when he was idlized and worshiped in a temple, he saw no good in mankind; He denied so much goodness just to prove his idea that human nature are evil, to win.

"If not for winning, why debate over means and ends?" This sentence hit me so hard. English not my first language so when I hear this first time my brain think it said something like "If not for 'winning', why we 'debate' over good or bad in the first place?" Like some human or god or evil or monsters each have their own reason in their actions and think their mindset always right. However when other party doesn't think the same. So they start debate. At first it just debating with words but At the last it became conflict and maybe war ...Just for 'winning for the right' in their mindset...
Even I find this scene sad. Though the “Turtle” is to blame, Humans are corruptible and let their greed and petty desires overwhelm their reasons. You know the phrase don’t kill the goose that lay golden eggs? That’s what the villagers did. Even they only care more about wealth, they still should’ve been wiser.
The turtle is a buddha, sent to test the humans. When the humans let their greed take over, he won his bet (probably with the monk). Fun fact, the monk is Tang Sanzhang’s previous incarnation. I guess this is in alignment with this chapter’s theme of greedy and selfishness, culminating with the final Yellow Robe boss.

The soldiers didn't kill him, so he didn't think it was good. He showed kindness to the poor and weak, but they did not ask for more. Instead, they showed gratitude and offered sacrifices to him, which he did not consider good. Later, ordinary people established systems centered around him and even began to share wealth with more poor and weak people, but he did not consider it a good thing. Finally, a greedy person arrived, and he couldn't wait to pull that person over. In the end, it resulted in bad consequences, and he was finally satisfied. Joker technically already lost the debate due to the existence of batman. Joker talked like the they were different existences from 'people', when both him and the batman are people as well. They represent the extremes of what people can be. Joker was trying to prove himself right to the person whose existence proves he is wrong
After rewatching this a few times, what strikes me the most is how sad it all is. The mortal realm is impoverished, ugly, dull. Yellowbrow introduces not only wealth but beauty and prosperity beyond their comprehension - even during the slaughter, the flashing grey frames reveal the how the mortals were united in suffering, and their joy of being released from it. Even the first thief, initially drawn as sensible, would throw away all self-preservation for the chance at prosperity. Anyone would. Many beautiful things to pick out from each and every chapter of this game!
Yellowbrow has a strong desire to win against Jinchanzi, and you can see in the game that he has taken on 4 disciples: NON-VOID, NON-ABLE, NON-PURE, NON-WHITE, which corresponds to Jinchanzi's reincarnation of Venerable Sanzang's 4 disciples: Wukong (aware of VOID), Wuneng (aware of ABLE, aka "Bajie"), Wujing (aware of PURE), White Dragon Horse (Little White-Loong)

The turtle is yellow brow, of a different incarnation, he and Jinchanzi (Sanzang/ Wukong’s master) had the a same mentor and in the same branch, Yellowbrow debate against Jinchanzi, that the nature of Human is Evil, instead of Good, to prove his point he bet on his entire cycle to win against Jinchanzi, he came down to human world as a leatherneck turtle that bleed treasure, shed medicines, and spill mucus that turn people young and beautiful, eventually greed took over the village, they killed what they worship, and soon the village is abandoned because the social structure is destroyed along with the turtle god (in the cutscene, Yellowbrow summons tornadoes that bring forth fishes, but also destroyed fishing boats, he give people fish instead teaching people to fish). Jinchanzi came across Yellowbrow telling him he turned the cause and effect around but he made the point by his intention of proving a point.

There's also a very subtle detail, the turtle brought fortune and wellness to the village, but in the last scene, they still appear to poor, because the authorities took over, and they only give the villagers what they worked for...kinda ironic isn't it? Humanity's desire to control things and unwilling to share, even if the resources are unlimited...
well that isn't the effect of humans, there is a reason the world we live in was not made with such a situation, something that can give unlimited resources will in any situation either by worshipped and dependent on by those who have never had wealth, or milked for resources by those who are wealthy and want to advance in their life. They put these creatures in a unnatural situation and expected them to act naturally, it mirrors someone specifically pressuring and annoying one person, barraging them with insults, and then calling them violent and threatening to call the cops after they punch you in the face. But in this case it's more like a type of grooming. If you want to show how humanity or mortals are evil, then you have to show a situation created by themselves. Infact I take that as a reason why humanity will never meet their gods until death, for they know better.
Wrong interpretation. Yellowbrow made them to depend their economy on him. He destroyed their boats using tornadoes he created to give them fish. He gave them jewelry as reward instead of letting them trade with the outside. The authorities created order to dispense it fairly. Humans are all good, it’s just that we are weak to temptation.
They weren't poor, just dressed in their casual clothes. In the previous scene at the temple they all have fancy clothes. The villagers had managed to create an organized and sustainable system that evenly distributed the pearls that Yellowbrow produced so he wouldn't have to cut himself too much and everyone got their needs covered. This had the potential to stay like that forever with everyone living happily which is why Yellowbrow had to shit all over it and force the outcome with magic.
Buddhism emphasizes this idea of "nothingness" and how only thru nothingness can one escape the cycle of life and death. That's the true meaning of this story. Yellowbrow did an experiment try to prove humans greedy, yet by doing the experiment, Yellowbrow himself fell into the cycle of life and death, winning and losing. If yellowbrow had really achieved nothingness, he would not have conducted the experiment, and the villagers would not have destroyed themselves with greed, and lived peacefully through their lives. So, the irony is the more yellowbrow tried to prove himself, the more unqualified he was at Buddhahood.
Oh he did alot more than that If you read the character descriptions Yellowbrow has killed thousands of people and guais for amusement or control . He was as bad as u can imagine.
Actually no, he gave them a ton of fish at a point where they had nothing, while yes prices of sea products would drop they would not have starved. Since he only gave them something as simple as pearls while the pearls are cheap in their local economy they can trade them far away from goods and products in places with out pearls. It would have taken centuries for their price to drop and even then they would be very valuable.
Yellowbrow give the villagers free pearls just by bleeding it, this is just like using a machine to print money. I am surprised this doesn't caused some pearl inflation.
@@HWDragonborn He's only one creature and pearls can be traded far and wide. It's like having an enormous gold mine, if you're the only one with such a mine you decide the price.
He destroyed the ships so they would have to rely on him to survive and then they showed kindness and made rules, worshipping him as a god. In time he gave in to his own greed to win the bet and cast a spell on that man and pulled the man towards him. So in a way he won because humans turned evil but it was also done so by his chaos nature and so in a way he also lost. He was never satisfied when humans showed good deeds, he wanted them to be evil and this would satisfy his ego.
You interpreted it wrong. Your first thought was right. That turtle was the evil one. That's why the monk at the end said that what the turtle did is "absurd and pathetic".
That yellow eyebrow who established his own ancestral temple also benefited the people and scattered his precious pearls to them; But there were people who were not greedy enough and used sharp blades to cut open his belly and snatch the treasures from him; At first, the officers and soldiers protected him, but later like the mob, they snatched him up! It shows that human hearts cannot be bought off by charity. Buddha is emptiness, emptiness is Buddha, and the righteous path in the world is vicissitudes.

It is similar to situation if drugs should be legalized. Can normal ppl resist it's temptation?China has a strict law against all drugs and of course against weeds as well, which is like out casting the turtles in the first place. Well some countries gradually invite the turtle in. Human nature is not to be tested and what we can do is to maintain the balance between self control and existing temptation. Intentional using temptation to ruin the order, to ruin others life for self interest, Huangmei is like a mythical version of drug dealer
From the graphics, music to the story behind this scene, it is both scary and epic. Jinchanji (in Tripitaka's previous life, he was Wukong's master) and his Brother the Turtle in the video made a bet with each other: Is human greed limitless? And as we have seen, there is no limit at all. When people are given something, they just want more and more. The senior brother said: "I won." But Jinchanji only said: "Isn't it sad that you only care about winning or losing like that?" Is it because people are greedy, or is it because "gods" have given them too much to arouse that greed? Is greed due to nature, or is it formed by external influences?
There is also an interesting thing here. The order that men “fallen” are Shudras(poor villagers), Vaisyas(merchants), Kshatriyas(officers) and last Brahmins(monks). Indian might know what I mean.
Some might argue that Yellowbrow provoked the villagers into killing him to prove that human nature is inherently evil, and to some extent, I agree. However, that doesn't absolve the villagers of guilt. When Yellowbrow revealed the treasure beneath his flesh, the villagers refrained from harming him and instead worshipped him. Was this out of fear of his power, greed for more blessings, or simply respect? Yet, once one man injured him, no one intervened to stop the violence; instead, they all joined the mob. This moment not only unleashed their greed but also made them realize that even a god can be vulnerable. In the end, neither the villagers nor Yellowbrow can be seen as truly innocent.
What yellowbrow did was like, you want to prove a plastic cup is better than a glass cup , so you drop them from a 30 floors building. Then you go like, see I told you so. Problem is what if we change the experiment and go with fire burning? What yellowbrow doing is brainwash, however correct he might seem to be
I find this short story fascinating firstly the people of this village are poor and starving and at first it looks like they may have put him on a pyre and were about too burn him either too cook him for food or because they may have though he was a evil creature bringing them misfortune but in that moment he lures them in with treasure, youth, food and other miracles but if you look closly these only mask his intentions. He crates a waterspout too give food but it also destroys some boats removing their independence and creating a reliance, he then heals a child but with no long term food the boy will wither again, all these temprary miracles show his power whilst also creating a reliance. as time goes on you see all those who serve at the temple in fine clothes all seem youthful and well fed whilst all others are still poor and starved the temple is taking tributes and keeping them for itself and in return they give out pearls which yellow brow provides and what can poor starving people do with pearls can't eat them and can't trade them atleast not near by, that village will be saturated with pearls and will have no value so the starving people starve whilst beliving they are saved and so Yellow Brow makes himself the beating heart of this village only too make them stab it too death and the village fades forever
It is never a good question to ask if human beings are inherently good or evil. Humans are like a piece of white paper: you can paint beautiful or ugly things on the paper just like you can guide one towards good or evil
It's a story about yellowbrow. He manipulated the poor people to prove his point that people are born greedy. It shows that he only cares about winning arguments, and will go to lengths to prove his points.
That' just the surface though. Second level is human nature being evil or not, or in buddhism, whether humanity can be educated and led to enlightenment. Third level is result vs reason. As the monk laughed on the turtles for the invalidity of his experiment by coming into the bet with a planned play on humanity. Fourth is his insistance on winning. Insistance being an evil in Bhuddism and obstacle to enlightenment itself, explaining why Yellow Brow has seemingly won the bet but at the same time already lost.
it's Yellowbrow, the boss, he turnyhinself into a turtle and put greed to humans just to prove a point and when humans started to get civilized, he cheated with one evil
This magical supernatural being, to me was nature, while people depicted human greed of taking more and more from nature not knowing when to stop themselves. Then I watched an American streamer play the game arrive to the same sequence and depict the supernatural being as the millionaire and the humans as the poor people; funny how you can arrive at different meaning based on your life experience through arts.
You are right my conclusion was even if god exist he would not show himself to the world because the people will tear him apart for thier own greed. I think they already do they only go to him because they think he can make everything right. People like god because they think they can benefit from him.
Yes.. channels like avenuex and empressxv who detailed every chapter really makes me even more astonished just how clever game science connecting all the characters and lore from JTTW
Jinchanzi, aka "Golden Cicada," and Huangmei, aka "Yellow Brow," hold very different beliefs on human nature. To simplify, Yellowbrow believes human nature is inherently evil, while Jinchanzi believes human nature can be good or evil, depending on how it is guided. *SPOILER* In the animation, Yellowbrow conducts a "social experiment" where he becomes this magical creature that tempts the villagers with wealth, health, and youth. Eventually, he tricks the villagers into killing him and creates chaos. Then, he concludes that human nature is evil because humans crave superficial things and are willing to hurt others to acquire more. But we can clearly see the flaw in this: it is not wrong to have desires; it's all about whether we have the proper guidance or not. If we pay close attention, we will see the village maintains an excellent order to distribute the "gifts" given by Yellowbrow until he lures one of the villagers into cutting him open. Yellowbrow is so obsessed with winning and losing that he guides the "experiment objects" to an outcome that favors him. This is why Jinchanzi says, "You chose a means to an end, not a proof," and "You sow chaos in hearts just for the sake of winning."
Pardon my ignorance here, but is this scene / scenario in the plot of Journey to the West? I found this scene to be very compelling and would love to explore it further.
It reminds me of that story of Buddha telling a young disciple that if he masters meditation, he will go to a heaven full of beautiful women. Buddha knew that desires and greed exist in human heart. He never blamed humans for it. Instead, he tried his best to channel even greed towards something positive. He helped people find peace in spite of their greed. This a**hole is the opposite of Buddha.

Jin Chanzi the monk=>the previous incarnation of Tang SanZang
Turtle spirit=>the previous incarnation of Yellow Brow, and the turtle wasn’t his true form.
Ps: [祸乱人心, 倒果为因 / sowing misguidance among people to cause chaos, inverting the consequence and cause] is the original line in the Chinese dub
got translated as “ choose means over ends”
he did win the debate but it doesn't make him right. doesn't matter the circumstance, human will eventually give in to greed and selfishness

It is wrong to say human is inherently kind, and same goes to "evilness".

1.all sentient beings (including human) are malleable and there is single inherent nature to it. Not kindness not evilness.
2.unelightened sentient beings are constantly involved in process of reincarnation and undergoing different life forms depending on their karma, like going back n forth btw human, youguai, celestial beings (like the Yellow Brow himself), animals, bugs or suffering souls in hell etc. so there is no reason to discriminate any of them.
3. Not only undergoing different life forms, uneligtened ones also uncontrollably undergo states of being kind/evil depending on their karmic habits and cycles. Good people can go evil, vice versa. Because there is simply no fixed nature in sentient beings. The Yellow Brow has no reasons to justify his discrimination against man.
Buddhas don't just naturally exist as Buddhas from the start. They, like Jin Chanzi or Yellow Brow or the villagers, were also once wandering souls in the universe. And after eons of being good and bad, some of the souls begin to seek ways to ascend beyond mortal. And after eons of attempts, they find the way. Then after eons of cultivation, they are fully enlightened.
That Yellow Brow rigged the situation to justify his view is just sheer ignorance and arrogance. Or pathetic like what Jin Chanzi said.

I feel like I'm missing something, how did he make them suffer more? how could he have quickly ended their suffering?

These kindness, He pretended didn't exist, intentionally guided someone to break the rules, and then he say, 'Humans are really evil.'. In fact, without the concept of kindness, there would be no concept of evil. Someone first established the rules of kindness and expected people to abide by them. You won't judge an elephant as evil, you won't judge a baby as evil.

This is exactly the game lore as shown here in the animation.
This story happened in the Earlier Era of Investiture of the gods thousands of years before journey to the west. The setting was prior the schism in the Buddhist belief. Yellowbrow was supposed to represent a Theravada Buddhist and Jinchanzi a Mahayana Buddhist.
How was this any different? That is what I got from it....
0:55 If you notice Yellowbrow also put his hand up same as the Buddha. In the original lore it did say that despite being deviant, his deep desire was to one day attain Buddhaship himself.

He did everything he could to prove himself right to Jinchanzi, which corresponds to the Buddhist concept of obsession as one of the three poisons.(The first story corresponds to greed, and the second story corresponds to anger)
In detail, you can see that when the person who took a knife to hurt the old turtle made his first move, his collar was pulled forward. At the same time, the eyes of the old turtle glowed, suggesting that he was casting a spell and manipulating the first person to harm himself in order to lure others into action.Meanwhile, in the subsequent scene where he falls dead, if you reverse the camera and look at it, you can see that his mouth is tilted up when he dies, smiling because he firmly believes that he has won again.
when he first show his blood could turn to treasure 0:42, the official didn't kill him, he saw no good in mankind;
when he showed his healing power 0:58, people did not kill him, he saw no good in mankind;
when he gave plentyful food 1:10, people did not force him to provide more, he saw no good in mankind;
when he was idlized and worshiped in a temple, he saw no good in mankind;
He denied so much goodness just to prove his idea that human nature are evil, to win.
good point, yellowbrow is a misanthrope
I had chills near the end of the song when the music was getting more intense. My god, my jaw was on the floor. Absolutely beautiful. This game is insane.
"If not for winning, why debate over means and ends?"
This sentence hit me so hard.
English not my first language so when I hear this first time my brain think it said something like
"If not for 'winning', why we 'debate' over good or bad in the first place?"
Like some human or god or evil or monsters each have their own reason in their actions and think their mindset always right.
However when other party doesn't think the same. So they start debate.
At first it just debating with words but At the last it became conflict and maybe war
...Just for 'winning for the right' in their mindset...

Many comments didn’t consider the last line important. Yellowbrow inducing people's greed is just the first layer of this story.

This led to the village at the end of the video. When the villagers realized what they had done, it's already too late. Over time, their village was abandoned and ruined upon their greed as many had lost their lives one by one.
Comment from a Chinese player: Huang Mei's animation is impossible to 'lose' at all. He was caught and immediately showed that he had jewelry in his flesh and blood. Human nature finally became evil, and he finally won. that called "Confuse people's minds and turn the fruit into the cause“- from Jinchanzi
But at the same time, all these people deep down inside wanted to do the same thing, it just takes one person to bring about chaos.
@@giuseppeverdi8284 Buddhism focuses on causal relationships. Who causes people's greed. yellow brow? After rewatching this a few times, what strikes me the most is how sad it all is. The mortal realm is impoverished, ugly, dull. Yellowbrow introduces not only wealth but beauty and prosperity beyond their comprehension - even during the slaughter, the flashing grey frames reveal the how the mortals were united in suffering, and their joy of being released from it. Even the first thief, initially drawn as sensible, would throw away all self-preservation for the chance at prosperity. Anyone would.
Many beautiful things to pick out from each and every chapter of this game!

Yellowbrow has a strong desire to win against Jinchanzi, and you can see in the game that he has taken on 4 disciples:
NON-VOID,
NON-ABLE,
NON-PURE,
NON-WHITE,
which corresponds to Jinchanzi's reincarnation of Venerable Sanzang's 4 disciples:
Wukong (aware of VOID),

Wujing (aware of PURE),

One of the best and most majestic songs in this game paired with one of the most poetic and purposefully unsettling scenes.
And the fact that all this happened because of a debate between two monks about human nature.….and one simply wanted to prove the other wrong.
Me and my brother had a little philosophical discussion after watching this scene. I feel like i learned something new :)
Look at 2:14, yellow brow "pull" the person to do it. That's the reason Sanzhang said he created the result first then only conclude the "reason".
i got goosebump when that song comes
Yellowbrow is a politician if I ever saw one.
He couldn't have "lost" in the first place:
He was salvagedashore, immediately to show people that there are jewels in his flesh and blood, officers and soldiers did not kill him, he did not feel good.
He did favor to the poor and weak people, and the poor and weak people did not ask for more, but appreciated the gratitude to offer him, he did not think it was kind.
Later, people set up a system around him, and even began to share wealth with more poor and weak people, which he did not think was kind.
Finally, there came a greedy man, he even couldn't wait, pulled the man, and finally yielded bad results, he was finally satisfied, human nature was finally evil, and he finally won.
I had a feeling that he was Sanzan or was at least connected to him. I kind of imagined Sanzan sounding something like that.
(Despite not having gotten to him in the book yet, I'm still reading the beginning 😅)
@WanderingNerd21 Sanzhang is the human form/incarnation of jinchanzi without any power and memory, though, that's why they signed wukong to protect him.

Then why didn't the people overcome the will to greed. Then why did that citizen mutilated the beast willingly. It's always magic or any other superstious nonsense that can compel a person to do these things. It's craving that humans have. That is yellow brows point. To test them yo see if they can overcome it and the people have failed. It's not just a means to an end, it's a fact.
And just in one push it all collaps itself where even the monks and the authorities endulged themselve to on this frenzy.
well that isn't the effect of humans, there is a reason the world we live in was not made with such a situation, something that can give unlimited resources will in any situation either by worshipped and dependent on by those who have never had wealth, or milked for resources by those who are wealthy and want to advance in their life. Infact I take that as a reason why humanity will never meet their gods until death, for they know better.
i mean it seems like the next day though
Oh he did alot more than that
If you read the character descriptions
Yellowbrow has killed thousands of people and guais for amusement or control .
He was as bad as u can imagine.
This has been the highlight of the game so far. I'm at the start of chapter 5 right now. I don't know how they're going to top this.
This would ruin the local economy.

Humanity and Greed. I thought the evil one is the alien.... But it's actually human greed. Great cut scene.
No it's definitely the turtle. Read between the lines, specifically where it destroys there ships and makes them only rely on him.

*SPOILER*
In the animation, Yellowbrow conducts a "social experiment" where he becomes this magical creature that tempts the villagers with wealth, health, and youth.
