Couple things:
Why is there no Whitney?
I didn't feel comfortable evaluating someone who's sadly no longer with us.
Jazmine, Yebba
Well, I'm not sure if they really fall in the 'pop' category so they're not here.
Natalie Weiss is not a pop singer technically, but she's covered a ton of pop songs and she teaches pop vocal. She literally had a series where she's has broken down some of the most iconic pop vocal runs.
Leigh-Anne, Dinah Jane
They could be here, true. However, it's an over 30 minutes video and there's no way someone wouldn't get left out unfortunately.
Next please make video of top 20 belters in pop music or maybe top 10 asian female vocalists

Beyoncé and Mariah at the top spots are so interesting because they're kind of like polar opposites musically. Bey is like blazing fire and Mariah is like soothing water. My top 2 favorite musicians of all time.
Yes exactly, bey's vocal and runs is kind of strong and firery. And mariah's vocal runs is strong and powerful but with very smooth like cloud fill in the air. Its hard to compare them both because their style is totally different.
Couldn’t agree more
I ♥️BEY, but she’s no may h for Mariah. Also where’s Brandy?
The fact is ALL of these Pop Artists has gotten their vocal style from either Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey! Two black artists that at heart aren’t POP artists!
Mariah solos
Yes but they both could also switch to the other when desired, Mariah has sang with blazing fire and Beyoncé like soothing water. I consider them Musical family they are also my two favorite singers of all time. Was so happy to see them tied for first! 🔥
Y’all gotta respect and appreciate Mariah (Not only for being one of the best) but also for inspiring many of the singers on this video. Even Beyoncé said once: “Mariah Carey is the person that made me want to sing”
she's the greatest female artist of all time and one of the most influential too
OK: but, Beyoncé and Mariah their runs and riffs are totally different, yet so impressive, Mariah excels in soft and delicate subtle runs, and Beyoncé excels in more consistent and dramatic complex melisma's which is clearly shown in this video how they prefer to do their runs.
ok, but this is about singing not legacy. mariah came before and inspired beyonce's generation but that doesn't mean the new girls can't sing as good as her and beyonce also has her own legacy. let's appreciate mariah AND beyonce. there's nothing wrong with this.
@@fernandodiniz6029 Their runs are different because they're different people, with different ranges, different tones... I didn't understand your point there.
@@ErestuPedro but Mariah is better lol wtf
Tori is a BEAST honestly her vocals are out of this world I've heard her live and she sounds even better like?! how's that possible??? in my opinion she could easily be #1 that girl has several lungs and is one of the most underrated artists
Seriously! I’ve gone to three of her concerts and she nails the same runs to perfection, as well sprinkling newer notes in there. That girl couldn’t sing a sour note if she tried.
The thing about vocal agility is that it's not just about riffs and runs, it's also about how fast a singer shifts registers. Mariah has been doing it effortlessly, it's like she's a roller coaster. She shifts from chest to head, falsetto, and whistle or the other way around, she even doesit back and forth. It's like climbing a 20 step stair in one or less than a second.
I never really understood the difference between head voice and chest voice tbh
In my opinion, Beyonce is perfect with maximum mark, but Mariah is way beyond perfection. She is phenomenal and incomparable. She can implement runs with 13notes/s, 53notes/s or 5-6 transistions. She can also add many colorature-ish techniques or vocal dynamics when doing melisma (you can check it on showcase of If only you knew/somewhere over the rainbow performance)
🥰🥰🥰
That Rainbow performance is epic
Beyoncé is good, she is not great.
Beyoncé especially when she was younger was an over singer and sometimes this effected her musicality, where Mariah has always had a perfect sense of musicality so based on the judging criteria I don’t think she can be higher than her
Completely agree. Mariah has so many amazing runs that I have never heard anyone else before her do. Her musicality is out of this world.
Thank You for appreciating Miss Chlöe’s impressive vocals. She is known as a great writer and performer which I agree with, but is a underrated vocalist.
She's a pretty decent writer, if you go back and listen to her music with Chloe. And she's a great performer, no question.
@@liryar123 “Chlöe is her name on Spotify. And being in a label Beyoncé started, some influences from her are to be expected.
@@liryar123 🤨Kinda weird to assume that was Beyonce's choice.
Chloe produces and writes her own music, other artists don't even do the direction of their songs, she's not the best lyricist of course but she's great, no near bad, she's indeed a great performer too.
Why don't people pay attention to Halle like Chloe?
If you really know anything about vocal runs, you will know that Mariah Carey is vocal runs PERSONIFIED! What was shown in this video with Mariah doesn't even come close to how insane Mariah's vocal runs truly are!
I knew Mariah would be at #1 but I'm soooo glad you included JoJo, faouzia, and Tori Kelly 😍😍😍😍
Beyoncé and Mariah Carey tying for first fits my fantasy.
@R.E.MxMimi Tori is literally in second place right behind Bey, ain't like she's trash!
@R.E.MxMimi and Tori doesn’t deliver every time? She has never messed up on a run ever and is definitely more consistent than Mariah and I’d argue she has better musicality than Beyoncè. They’re all sort of tied 🤷🏾♂️
@R.E.MxMimi You really think Tori Kelly can’t do Beyoncè and Mariah’s runs? 😭 I just know I’m talking to someone who hasn’t seen any of her live performances or videos and is just basing it on tiny vocal compilation videos that she’s in 😭
@@chikoritaleaf let’s not even Mariah will run circles around tori and Beyoncé will be doing backflips in the air while out running tori
Have they ever sung together? 😍
Alot of people seem to forget that in the same way that Mariah as a star-rated songwriter gets overlooked due to how much of a star-rated vocalist she is, is the same way that Beyoncé as a star-rated vocalist gets overlooked due to her being one of the greatest live performers of all time. Beyoncé's musicality has improved so much over the years compared to her DC years and with Mariah, is truly the upper echelon of what a vocalist (male or female) should aspire to be.
Tori Kelly is so amazing and deserving of her #3 spot too omg
Musicality has never really been the issue with Beyoncé. Everything has always musically fit. She just liked to really go the extra mile.
Perfectly said

Tori Kelly is absolutely deserving of being up near the top. Top tier agility.

Bey has the biggest/heaviest voice out of everyone on this list and that makes her agility all the more impressive. I wish you used more recent clips but I know these were probably what was safe from copyright. Jazmine Sullivan should definitely be on the list about equal or one below Brandy.
Lower≠heavier
Beyoncé’s voice definitely is not weighty, at least not until 2019. She’s a mezzo, but she’s a light one.
@@shadowcArey I said what I said. Her voice isn't cumbersome, indeed there ARE voices bigger than hers. But in a list of agile singers, she's easily a step apart in that category. Her chest voice is extremely robust after maturing past her 20s. The sound is big, I don't mean in volume though there has been an increase there. Listen to the acapella take of Freedom during FWT, the earth shattering eb5s from OTR, D5s from OTRII, the song Spirit from The Gift. Her Mezzo-forte is bigger than these other singers Fortissimo. The exception on this list is Jennifer Hudson whose voice is both loud and big, while Beyonce is moderate and big. Prior to her vocal maturity around 2008-2011 I would have put Beyonce as moderate in both volume and breadth.
Heavy? She was a light-lyric colatura soprano who became mezzo.
@@yaimiana Bey's voice has great volume output but her voice has never been heavy. Her vibrato was heavy early on and still can be as she switches it on and off. But Bey's voice has always been lighter to medium. Her voice now has more depth in the low chest but as she travels to mid/high chest her voice goes back to a lighter/bright sound. It's vibrato and huskiness that makes the voice sound weightier but it isn't a heavy voice. Jennifer's voice is heavier throughout every part of their compared range. The lightness of Bey's voice and the fact that vibrato carried much of her vocals aided her in being as nimble and agile as she's Known to be as a vocalist.
I was really expecting to see Jazmine on this list 😅
💖Mariah Carey is #1 for me 💖 her vocals are amazing with agility, sound, runs, belts, octaves and whistles.

Thank you for including artists from South Korea! This is such a great ranking system that considers different and complex part of music. These amazing talents truly deserve recognition for their hardwork!
I love Morissette. She's amazing. My top agile voices would be Mariah Carey, Jazmine Sullivan, Tori Kelly, Brandy and Beyonce. Kelly Clarkson is great but she probably comfortable as a belter then runs and rifts. The most agile I ever hear Jennifer sing was when she did Tomorrow, and Simple Beautiful by Al Green. Overall My top agile voices would definitely be Mariah, Jazmine, Brandy, Tori Kelly and Beyonce. Great video!
Beyoncé in terms of agility, the "sweet dreams medley" from Beyoncé vegas show, her AOL acoustic performance, the ego run as well as that one really complex run she does in the background of bootylicious . The latter is one of the top 3 hardest runs I have heard in my life.
Beyonce vs the saxophone was sickening 👏🏿🤯😍
I always go back to that whole concert. Mind you she was sick!
Yea I agree he didn’t rlly put a diverse portfolio for her it was mainly just belting but it’s ok still gave credit but that Vegas show was something else
Independent Woman with Destiny Child at the award shows. Like that Arabic scale she did!?😩

That soft tone of Mariah feels so sweet to your ears if angels sings that would be the sound... by the way, those lowers of Mariah are just insane❤
*To be honest,*
1. Mariah Carey
2. Beyonce
Both are exceptionally agile however *Mariah* takes it due to musicality and her transitions are essentially unparalleled in mainstream music.
*Beyonce's* musicality has definitely improved over time however Mariah has top notch musicality.
Overall, this is an excellent video and the rankings were quite spot on. Glad you added *Faouzia and Leona Lewis.* I wonder where Jazmine Sullivan would rank. I keep thinking somewhere in the top 5 however her musicality is not on par with Mariah and Tori plus she relies on her jaw quite a number of times.
However Mariah's pitch and consistency hasn't been great for the last 7 years while Bey has been consistent up until this day. So you could really go either way with the ranking

I’m so glad Tori is up there. Well deserved.
There is just SOMETHING about Celine & Whitney's runs that hit different. The combination of power & agility is unbeatable. I feel like their belts are the lightning and their runs are the thunder that follows as the bolt crosses the sky. Some singers use a very thin/bright/girly tone to get their voice to move faster but for me, power in the riff is a whole new tier.
finally, someone gets it. it’s one thing to run in a thin and light voice (easier to control). the thing that sets Celine and Whitney apart is their agility and precision while in FULL power.

i think it’s funny that jade and camila are included when leigh-anne and dinah are by far the superior members from each group when it comes to agility, i was expecting to see them after i saw their bandmates mentioned. also, what about whitney???? also yebba, jazmine sullivan, keke wyatt??
I think he aimed to include more popular singers. Leigh-Anne and Dinah are both considered the "underrated" ones in their respective groups because they have been overlooked at times and they're not very popular. Let's hope he does a Part 2 for these singers.
Very true I was expecting Leigh
@Day Sorry but that's not true and it's definitely not embarrassing. I don't think you have any idea how goof Dinah's sense of musicality actually is. And, as for Leigh-Anne, her pitch is just as good as Jade's, if not better.
@Day had to laugh at this one because Dinah’s musicality is better than half the people in this video not just her group members. Jade does slightly edge Leigh out in that area but Leigh’s precision and creativity still deserve equal recognition.
@Day Honestly, the only one who's embarrassing is you. I honestly can't believe there's someone out there who really thinks Camila of all people has better riffs/runs than Dinah when she has gone off-pitch a lot of times and her runs lack precision. And her musicality definitely isn't as good as Dinah's, especially when you consider how extra Camila is. As far as Little Mix is concerned, the same goes for Leigh-Anne and Jade. Jade's musicality and pitch are better than Leigh's but she still has more messy moments because her runs also lack precision at times. So, instead of publicly trashing Leigh and Dinah, why don't you actually take a look at some of their live vocals?
Faouzia has this agility at the age of 22 .. is crazy to me
this group is missing YEBBA. That girl Fouzia was doing one of her runs from "my mind"
Have you seen Chloe x Halle's essence fest performance? Chloe did a new riff during the Ungodly Hour bridge and I'm OBSESSED
I'm not surprised at Faouzia who is at number 5. Because she already has the basic 'Arabic runs' of the blood of her Moroccan family. And well, middle eastern songs do have a unique characteristic in their vocal agility
I honestly think you have been a bit funny with this list: Celine Dion at her prime and even nowadays has some some of the most impressive runs and she is crystal clear. You can hear every note. And you put her 8th in this list? Agility and resonance off the charts. I think you let you personal taste bias the list very honestly.
You just noticed? All those click-baity titles for his videos aren't even remotely objective, not even talking about him being very predictable in his choices and arguments. Objectivity basically means you can stay away from your personal bias and be as much objective as possible. Beyoncé is a technical perfection, everyone should take notes from her performances to learn how to do perfects riffs and runs like crazy. She reached in her league, and the way she uses her technique will never be replicated. And I should point that she even uses vocal dinamics in the middle of the runs. Truly a masterpiece.
Mariah otherwise is a raw perfection. Like, really, you can't name a Mariah song that don't have at least one iconic run or riff. The way that she decorates her songs with little intricate runs that you probably only discover after listen many and many and many times is surreal. The runs are in the climax, in the verses, in the intro, in the outro, and, why not, even in the melody of her art. Again, this will never be replicated, and I'm grateful for having Mariah as my favorite singer of all time.
Having Mariah Carey as your favorite is the taste of it all.
Mariah is still better tbh
@@alonzoclarkston1781 nah. Beyoncés runs sound to me way more complex
@@toshiro8997 they sound more complex since her runs are slower paced so you hear the crazy notes going up, down, here, there. But mariah’s are so fast and musically respectful with the overall melody that you don’t even notice. I can practice beyonce’s runs if i listen and study it well but i can never attempt most mariah runs even if i study and break down her runs. Mariah’s runs are musically flowing in the song, whereas beyonce’s runs are “in your face” and assertive in a way. Mariah still technically has the most complex runs in any artist’s catalogue.
@@jameslloydconcha but that baised lol. Your preference about the „musicship etc.“ But dosen’t changes the fact that Beyoncés scales and runs are more complex. Alone the iconic „Crazy In Love“ runs is Hard. Very hard to imitate 😂 or her „Halo“ run at „night“. To imitate Bey‘s runs you need 99% control and good at dynamic. Like this woman use „Messa Di Voce“ stuffs or Arabic inspired scales like nothing.
I’m impressed for Madison Beer’s VOCALS 😮💨 soooo underrated that I didn’t even know she had all that
Yesssss finally somebody said it . Brandy is scary good at runs she catches me off guard all the time
I agree with Mariah and Beyoncé sitting on the throne with one buttcheek each. They are both the standards but O can't imagine either of them doing what the other can do. Bey can do somethings Mimi can't, Mimi can do somethings Bey can't. So why not share the top spot?
this is it bro exactly, their runs and riffs are totally different, yet so impressive
This is definitely one of your best videos. I was trying to guess what the critique was going to be before you said, and I was able to guess most of them. Really enjoyed it, and the format is clean, precise, and straight to the point. Definitely outdid yourself with this one, and I'm surely looking forward to whatever the hell you decide to post in the future.
I know that we're struggling severely in the male department, but a male-focused ranking would be... "interesting". We need them to step it up, stop being lazy, and start sangin'.
Thank you so much!🥰
There aren't many men deserving of being on that list, lol. Durand Bernar and Usher... That's about as far as it goes lol
The accuracy of this list!!! *chef’s kiss* especially the top 10! Kudos
Yeah Mariah’s package kinda just manifests runs because her frame of mind and just her person holds this coalescence with musicality. When your brain is already there and you have the chops, technique, and range to play with; Mariah Carey is essentially Pablo Picasso on the world’s largest mural. Her runs painting endless streaks of timeless art that only she could ever bring to the world. She’s a musician, baseline. Musicality is probably her greatest and most long lasting weapon.
I love Mariah's musicality. Its incredible.
Such a great video! Although a I missed Jazmine Sullivan, she’s a BEAST when it comes to riffs and runs.
Never heard of Faouzia but she’s damn good wow 😍😍
There are so many more amazing singers out there. It would be nice to see a RUclips channel like yours opening up doors for them ;)
I don't know her but she's amazing 23:00 so unique
I am so happy to see Brandy my all time favorite singer at number 4. I wasn’t sure if I would see her on the list at all. Thank you for that
Great video! ;D♥️ l love how you rated everything, that was a great idea.
The ones l LOVE the most/best: Beyoncé, Mariah, Tori, Leona, Celine. (I wish Whitney was in this video tho.)💕😭
Great list. I appreciate this video sir.☺️👏
I would love to see you do a part 2 with these very talented ladies added to your list: Amerie, Jazmine Sullivan, Nicole Scherzinger, Tamia, Jhene Aiko, Monica, Dua Lipa, Lauren Hill, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Sza, Faith Evans, Khelani, Keyshia Cole, and Fantasia❤
I really do love this list but Mariah is more fluid imo compared to B. I love both but Mariah's ability be fluid between Head, chest and Whistle is something of a marvel.
Also, where is Whitney and Jazmine Sullivan?
03:43 wow demi, that transition to falsetto 😍 impressive
Mariah, Tori, Jasmine Sullivan, Brandy, Jojo, Beyonce, Kyla
I understand why you didn't rank Mariah and Beyoncé because they both have an INSANE level of musicality, so it's smart to leave it up to the comments for this debate hehe.
In my opinion, Mariah Carey is definitely number one out of all the pop girls. This opinion was especially ingrained in me after I saw a few clips of her masterclass where she is vocal directing Brandy's notes on a remix of The Roof. And to SEE HER AT WORK...let me tell you, she was pulling out notes from the 12-scale that I didn't even know could be worked in the way that they were and Brandy of course was phenomenal in singing it exactly the way Mariah wanted. You can just tell that Mariah has an incredible knowledge of music in general and her ear is insane, she hears things that most people don't and turns what in another's hand would be an ok song into a masterpiece.
But Beyoncé is a very close second. I know that she also comes up with almost all her background vocals, and every time she puts out an album her adlibs always sound different and unique. When I first heard Jealous from her self-titled I was floored, as she was really exploring her lower register for the first time and the choices she makes in that song are so incredible and from that point on I've been so incredibly expressed by her musicality. Even her newest song Break My Soul, a dance song that is repetitive, she manages to make it not just vocally interesting but ENGAGING.
Anyways, great job on the video! I agree with all of your choices! Would LOVE for you to do an R&B girls version of this cause we need to talk about JAZMINE SULLIVAN - the queen of vocal runs right now!!! Would love to hear your thoughts on her.
jazmine sullivan should be there
Is she pop?
@@erinriley9411 brandy aint pop either
@@erinriley9411 does it matter
@@THEE.apples i was asking because of the title dumb shit
@@erinriley9411 She's mostly soul and R&B but she can do pop
Your videos are daily serotonin. I really enjoy your job❤ And guys, don't forget the agility of Whitney and Aretha, queens of soul. RIP
Thank you!😇
Queens cannot be forgotten!
Queen Aretha wasn't an excellent riffer.
