There is just something about Whitney’s voice. It has this great distinctive mixture of proper, classy, yet soulful tone, that you just don’t find with other vocalists.
Amber Riley has the cleanest, most accurate version I've heard next to Keke Wyatt. Nobody else can hit that high note as clear and fresh as they did. The rest either stop there, struggle with it or it's horrible. Amber effortlessly breathed it out and Keke too
Loving every single one of them!!! 😍😍😍 this song is never an easy one to nail even on your best vocal days! Shoutout to Carolyn Franklin for writing such a perfect song to challenge Ree vocally. And on top of that, to have Cissy do one of the most perfect backgrounds ever. She knew what her sister and Cissy were capable of👏🏼😍😍😍
That G5 must be really tough to sing live! Their voices sound really strained just ascending into that note! No wonder Aretha never sang this song live.
I would have loved for years specifically 1996 Mariah singing this maybe someone can do one of the compilations using various notes to make it like she sang it
The fact that all these singers had to go through all these contortions just to get through what Aretha did (probably sitting at a piano) is telling. Love them for trying tho!
Cynthia's concert performance available here on RUclips with Phebe Edwards taking the Cissy Houson's bv is wonderful. Her tone is very rminiscent of Aretha, her dynamics are amazing and the conversation with Phebe is beautiful to see. She's a fabulous singer and performer.
Ledisi exudes control, power, class, a style all her own while respecting the song and the artist. Just sheer brilliance and the standout for me. Pattie, Cynthia, Amber, and Jennifer were great as well.

@@jmorg044 she isnt screaming at all, if anything patti was "screaming" more than her
@@jonathan_8100 agree with you..I don't know why people thought jhud is screaming without knowing that her Voice came from her chest
@@jonathan_8100 as a Music composer..I can tell that patti was more screaming
There is just something about Whitney’s voice. It has this great distinctive mixture of proper, classy, yet soulful tone, that you just don’t find with other vocalists.
Aretha the only one that didn’t switch to head voice at some point…. She was in her bag that day!!!
I came to say this! It's overlooked.
So many fabulous voices!!!!!!! Missing Sissaundra Lewis though on her The Voice audition - she also killed it!
How Patti still pulls those notes off at that age is just beyond amazing
Wendy Moten’s performance on The Voice is my favorite!!!
oOOOOOooOOOoooo Ms.Amber and Auntie Patti really ate it up! I can't amber should play a legend sometime soon!
I agree. I never heard her perform it live so perfectly
She sang it live. It's on here. Her back up singer usually does the high note
Demi was a bit rough, she was on tour that period and she participated to perform foe the event. She still surprised me
Demi is always missing high notes. I'm pretty sure it has to do with her voice being damaged, due to drugs and her eating disorder, though.
She's got a better mix now and technique I bet she could slay all the notes nowadays
Let's face it, that was horrible.
Demi isn’t confident in herself to me those Bb5 she has in her songs she can attempt them and execute she just is very idk
Demi's Head voice /falsetto is not that well developed yet
If Prime Mariah did this, it would be curtains. I love that they all did a wonderful job 😍
That’s who I was looking for
Same goes for Kelly. Touring is tough on the instrument.
Curtainssss
I would have loved for years specifically 1996 Mariah singing this maybe someone can do one of the compilations using various notes to make it like she sang it
I don't think it would have fit her voice. Maybe she could have ended it with a whistle... It's never too late though
Patti, Ledesi, Whitney and Amber Riley were my favs 🥰
I am always amazed by how Soshana Bean sings!! My fave Elphaba
It’s not just Whitney’s phrasing and musicality, but her voice just sounds the nicest!
3:03 im shoked 😳 to me.. Jennifer Hudson, Cynthia Erivo, Lafrieta, patti labelle, and Aretha
There’s something about the original version that gives me chills but these ladies also killed it!!!
The fact that all these singers had to go through all these contortions just to get through what Aretha did (probably sitting at a piano) is telling. Love them for trying tho!
Yeah I had to go back and listen to her again after hearing all that screaming.
4:35 - One semitone lower or not, she did such a amazing job and gave it her own spin.
I don't know about the others but I loved Ledisi's version..
Loved Patti. Jhud and Ledisi
Ledisi exudes control, power, class, a style all her own while respecting the song and the artist. Just sheer brilliance and the standout for me. Pattie, Cynthia, Amber, and Jennifer were great as well.
We need an updated version with Wendy Moten from the Voice! Her version is amazing as well.
Amber Riley was my favorite. JHud and Patti come as close seconds. I like Whitney’s (3 semitones/1.5 tones lower just as a correction) and Kelly’s versions too.
Actually everyone here did great
I agree with you.. It is Patti for me though, then Amber Riley.. I do not like Jeniffers mix, it sounds too heady..
I just thought it was a bit to much for Demi. Hiring those G5 and G#5s at that time in their life was too much to handle
@@odumosuolusegun2781 no one belted like patti there in original key
@@richiesol20 Patti for me too..
Holy shit those pipes are something else. My goodness, vocals of angels.
Cynthia and Amber!!!
Jennifer and Ledisi were really nice but Patti’s was my favorite omg!!! Had me jumping n shoutin!
Ledisi knocked it out of the park!! Shoshana Bean close second!! I think some of the other artists struggled because they sang in the original key. That is a high song.
Patti Jennifer and Whitney my good sis Ledisi too ❤️❤️
I love Amber version becuz it seem she stayed in the same pocket and note with the Queen. Yall should go look up Amber version when she was on tour. She sang the hell out this song.
That was a really good compilation of some of the best singers out right now. I just watched the Aretha movie a couple days ago and was reminded of her genius and contribution to American music. "Aint No Way" is one of my favorite songs of hers to sing, but I CANNOT do it in the original key. Nowhere near. Aretha is the Queen of Soul for reason. Her legacy reigns supreme.
none of them can match Aretha's ease n agility up there.
The perks of bein a coloratura soprano. Big flexible voices. It's a rare type of soprano to be
@@milesjohnson7423 Aretha is no where near being a coloratura. Leave the operatic terms for the vocalists that are classically trained and have actually mastered the skill.
@@cashcow4450 😒😒When you find out what kind of soprano she is, let me know.
@@milesjohnson7423 Just a soprano.
@@Algorox Wrong answer. No soprano is just a plain soprano when there are different types
Its cute whitney having fun
This may be a group of extremely skilled singers, but not a single one sounded anywhere NEAR as effortless as Ledisi, and she by far had the best opt up.
Cynthia and Amber ATE that bridge like Jeffrey Dahmer on a hunger strike.
i'm always SO IMPRESSED by Amber Riley! MY GOD THAT GIRL CAN SANG!!!!
Ain’t No Way is my favorite song by Aretha, I have heard many try to cover it but it’s never as good as Aretha’s version. Aretha put an indelible stamp on that song! Even the Great Whitney Houston couldn’t do the song justice when she sung it live.
shoshana bean... just heard of her. what a voice - y is no one talkin about her voiceeeee - she's crazy and she knows it -idek her and i love her already
shoshana bean's control in her head voice and whistle notes is just so mindblowing
This song is already a classic but Patti singing it to Aretha is a notable classic tribute.
