My Mom got me hooked on this. It has been a tradition to watch it with her. In my opinion, George C. Scott was the best Ebenezer Scrooge. I also love this song!
This is the most wonderful production of "A Christmas Carol" I have ever seen. Thank you for posting this song, and for posting the information to obtain the soundtrack from Mr. Bicat!
I was born a few days before Christmas 1984, and having grown up with this, it is one of my favorite christmas songs.
The G.C.Scott movie was the best version of Dickens' story ever made.
dramamajor1985 here here
Easily my favorite version. Everything about it was GREAT!
Once again it's time to listen to this beautiful song!
The past of man was cold as ice / he would not mend his ways / He strove for silver in his heart / and gold in all his days / His reason weak, his anger sharp / and sorrow all his pay / He went to church but once a year and that was Christmas day / The present man is full of flame / he rushes here and there / he turns away the orphan child / the widow in her chair / He takes more than he really needs / forgets how short his stay / and stands a-jingling of his coin / in church on Christmas day
Thank you for sharing this beautiful song! I long for the day when this soudtrack will be available.
Beautiful christmas song!
The soundtrack is available for purchase directly from Nick Bicat. You can contact him directly through his webpage (just google search his name).
I wrote to him the day after Thanksgiving to see if I could get a copy of the CD for my father. He replied the next day and the CD shipped to me in the US from London within a week. I haven't listened to it myself yet, still at school, but both my parents tell me that it is phenomenal! Definitely worth the purchase!
Thank you for posting this. I've been looking for a clean copy of this for 15 years!
I agree, terrific song. Thanks for posting. I taped the show (BetaHiFi!) when it first aired in 1985(?) and played that carefully guarded copy many years before it finally became available on DVD. It's still my favorite version of this classic, made so by the soundtrack and G.C. Scott. I may just have to email Bicat for a soundtrack.
If you visit Bicat's official website (listed in the description) and send him an e-mail requesting the soundtrack, he will send you a copy for a reasonable fee. It's 23 tracks, over 50 minutes of music. I bought my copy earlier in the year. It was a great thrill finally to obtain it.
In fact, I posted this video here in the hopes of giving Mr. Bicat's wonderful music additional exposure.
my favorite, too :) the only one worth watching!!!
My favorite version and the musical score is superb
Thank you so much!
Half-way to Christmas!
This song is all the more beautiful to me now that I understand what is sung. To the original poster: Thank you. :)
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this information. :o)
So grant us all a change of heart / Rejoice for Mary's son / Pray, peace on earth to all mankind / God bless us, every one / The man to come we do not know / may he make peace on earth / and live the glory of the Word / the message of the birth / and gather all the children in / to banish their dismay / Lift up his heart among the bells / in church on Christmas day / So grant us all a change of heart / Rejoice for Mary's son / Pray, peace on earth to all mankind / God bless us, every one!
2nd part: So grant us all a change of heart Rejoice for Mary's son Pray peace on earth to all mankind God bless us everyone/
The man to come we do not know May he make peace on earth And live the glory of the Word The message of the birth/
And gather all the children in To banish their dismay Lift up his heart among the bells In church on Christmas day/
So grant us all a change of heart Rejoice for Mary's son Pray peace on earth to all mankind God bless us everyone (x2)
1st part: The past of man is cold as ice He would not mend his ways He strove for silver in his heart And gold in all his days/
His reason weak his anger sharp And sorrow all his pay He went to church but once a year And that was Christmas Day/
The present man is full of flame He rushes here and there He turns away the orphan child The widow in her chair/
He takes the lad he rarely meets at once with dismay And stands alone without his coins in church on Christmas Day/
I also long for this soundtrack- and I would also like a print copy of the lyrics-
I agree the best version ever ! ***QUESTION*** Does anyone know the tune played on Scrooge's Repeater Pocket watch? I cannot find it on the web anywhere. . Thanks. =)
I want the lyrics to this!
I've been longing to sing this since I first heard it many years ago...
