  • I hope this isn't the one that got away...
    I didn't know the PRS S2 Vela existed a month ago. This PRS guitar came in on a trade to my shop Little Box Effects and I was immediately intrigued by its semi-hollow mahogany body, shorter 25" scale and dynamic and lively resonance. Now it's headed off to its next home and I'm wondering if I've made a mistake! Let me know what you think!?
    Hear the clean and dirty sounds of the PRS Vela Semi Hollow electric in the sound samples, and let me know what other PRS models I should have on my radar!

      they're beautiful guitars. Just seeing that they did a little refresh of the Vela and might have to check out the new ones down the road...

    I played a Vela for a few days (don't ask) and I absolutely loved it. My favorite effect I ran through it was a distortion/overdirve pedal I have. Those humbuckers on that thing are HOT. They scream

      rad! Yeah, there is definitely a lot of life in this guitar! The bridge is hot, the neck has some nice clarity. I'm interested to hear the new model's pickups.

    This guitar has been one that has intrigued me for a while now. They are available for good prices used. But I have never kept any PRS that I have tried. So I am afraid to go for other models. You definitely made this one shine.

      totally get that; I played a silver sky at NAMM this year and thought "ah, this is kinda cool" and I was pleasantly surprised to pick this one up - probably the coolest and most aligned PRS I've tried for the stuff I play and like. it does have me more interesting in the brand overall, but I can understand your feelings!

    Man if I had a shop don’t think I’d ever sell anything, understand your temptation.
    The s2 vela is the only prs guitar that’s ever appealed to me and now they’ve dropped a semi-hollow 🤔

    I’ve got an American made CE 24 I got in 2022. Love it! Sounds great, plays great but the newer SE CE’s I’ve heard sound just as good at a fraction of what I payed! They’ve really stepped up the already good quality of the SE and S2 lines. This is my first time seeing the Vela. I really dig it!

    I have the black satin 2017 solid body same pickups. I love it so low in weight and sparkles like tele but can get dirty as well just a great player . I haven’t watched the entire video yet but I don’t know what you’re trading for but that’s a really nice guitar. The new ones are more expensive but come with the PRS American pickups and pots and elects etc. Anyway if you haven’t already traded I would keep it unless you’re getting something way better. GOOD LUCK.

    I’ve been interested in this specific model for awhile now. I think they look great and have some nice features.
    I owned a Studio 22 for awhile that sounded great and the playability was off the charts. I ended up moving it along because I couldn’t get on with the flashy flame top finish, but I’d like to pick one up again in a solid color someday.

    Am I the only one who thought the playing was great but was not into the tone at all? It lacked warmth or something hard to explain. Towards the end of the demo it chilled out a bit and was close to enjoyable, but I wouldn't hang onto something I wasn't truly inspired by. That's my personal thought

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors  4 месяца назад +1

      that's fair! we all judge with our ears , and sometimes there are even small nuances that either captivate or deter us from gear.

    • @rappel28
      @rappel28 4 месяца назад

      @AmbientEndeavors cosmetics had me wanting to like it too. Maybe backing the tone off a bit might change my opinion, but I'm not really in the market for one anyway. That blue gretsch you demo ed the other day or the orange one from a few back is more my taste for hollowbody tone.

    • @JELIFISH19
      @JELIFISH19 2 месяца назад +1

      @@rappel28 I put a Filtertron in the bridge and a Firebird in the neck of mine. It sounds much better now. I've always been disappointed by the sounds of the Vela but the vibe and aesthetics always drew me to them. I took the risk and bought one with the intention of changing the electronics. I actually had to preorder it so I had all the electronics wired up to a new pickguard before I even had the guitar. When I received it, it was my worst sounding guitar. But it became my #1 after the upgrade. It wasn't supposed to but it was a really pleasant surprise.

  • @souldreamer9056

    Keep it. As of 2024 Velas don’t exist any more. Vela WAS a guitar with a DYNASONIC-type pickup in the neck and NO BIRDS on the fretboard, like the one you have. Now PRS are selling another guitar with the word “VELA” on the headstock, with a Narrowfield Humbucker in the neck and BIRDS on the fretboard. But don’t be fooled. That’s NOT a Vela. Your is.

    • @AmbientEndeavors
      @AmbientEndeavors  3 месяца назад

      Well, it’s gone forever ha. Have you played them both?

    • @souldreamer9056
      @souldreamer9056 3 месяца назад

      @@AmbientEndeavors hopefully not gone FOREVER. Ifwe raise enough hell, PRS may bring it back. Think of when Gibson put robot tuners on their entire lineup. Hell was raised, and soon the normal guitars were back. We need to do the same to PRS now, otherwise the Vela will be lost.
      Yes I’ve played them both. The new neck humbucker sounds like… like a humbucker. Surprise surprise. Not as dark as a PAF, granted, but still a humbucker. Not having a single-coil in the neck changes the entire guitar.
      And regarding the birds.. some people want a more down-to-earth look, and for those people, there was the bare-bones, bird-free “S2-Standard” line, which included the “Vela”, the “Standard 22” and ”Standard 24”. These were stripped down workhorses without excessive cosmetics or glam. Now the stripped-down look of the “S2 Standard” line has been ruined with all the new cosmetics.
